The Bear Inn

"In the spot where there was once a 16C coaching inn, now sits this smart, modern gastropub hidden away in the Shropshire countryside. A welcoming and homely atmosphere accompanies stylishly presented food that’s full of hearty flavours. The menu is rooted in English classics with occasional international influences, and some of the produce could scarcely be more local, coming from the gardens of nearby Hodnet Hall." - Michelin Inspector

Lovely welcome. Spent 2 nights there as a gift. Lovely friendly staff. Beautiful rooms. Fabulous food ...probably some of the best we have had, both set lunch and breakfasts. The lovely Hodnet Hall just across the road...do not pass that by and the beautiful village church. Would def return to the Bear Inn and recommend to others and I can't say that about many places for food tbh or accommodation in the Midlands. Alison and Sandra particularly lovely at breakfasts and hats off to all the team members behind the scenes... excellent!

The food is delicious and cooked to perfection. The wine list is good and well priced it’s always lovely to have a glass of English fizz! Attentive service despite being busy. This is clearly a popular destination for walkers and locals alike. Inside and outside seating areas are capacious rather than hygge!

This place is classy. We came for dinner to celebrate a birthday. Everything was top quality and the service was professional but very friendly. The decor is well thought out and the food is worthy of its accolades, if not more. We will all return. What a gem to have in the local area.

The food was fantastic, and the place is lovely inside. We were 15 minutes early and abruptly told about there 30 minutes time slot policy, just seems a bit strange and wasn't very welcoming. we unfortunately got a table right in the far corner away from all of the nicer decor and very little atmosphere. We ended up leaving early just didn't feel welcome.

After a traffic jammed & delayed journey from Portsmouth it was a delight to arrive at The Bear. We’d never been before but were breaking our journey home. Chloe Salmon the General Manager spotted us as we entered and we were registered and on our way to our room in no time. The interior design of our room was a joy to behold with beautiful patterns, textures and colours. When we went for dinner the food was first class - all three courses. We really enjoyed our impromptu stay and will be back. Chloe was incredibly welcoming and she and her team do a great job. a very strong recommend.

Tried to book to come with my 94-year-old mother-in-law who wanted to treat my husband , my son and me for my husband's birthday. She has a tiny appetite and a limited budget and gets sleepy early. We explained all this on the phone but they wouldn't take an early evening booking for just starters. They encouraged us to just turn up. When we arrived at 6.40pm the receptionist told us there'd be no table until at least 7.30. She said they wouldn't have expected to be so busy, which prompts the question, again, of why they hadn't let us book for just a starter. Furthermore there was a small table in the bar area which would have done us perfectly well, but we were told that was only for drinks. A venue that has so little flexibility to cater for different situations and customers, so little care for the wish of a 94 year old, and that so blindly pursues profit over and above it's core business of hospitality, is not one I'll ever be revisiting.

Midweek lunch, did not disappoint. Our first time eating at the Bear, we ate outdoors as it was a lovely warm and sunny day, staff were amazing and explained every dish as they were served, we had the three courses for £37. The food was exceptional!

Lovely pub/hotel. Good service from very attentive staff. Unfortunately, I'd have to say the food was not as good as last time. Trying too hard to mak it fancy I think. Still a lovely visitcandcthe rooms are super!
