Super chill place to have some good beers, and apparently cocktails soon. They had a huge selection of beers on tap and an even bigger selection of cans and bottles. And if all that weren't amazing enough, the shop dog greeted us on our way in and paid several visits to our table.

Google
My only wish is that they had prices listed somewhere. There was no way of telling how much a bottle of wine or case of beer was. Otherwise this place has an incredibly impressive variety of alcoholic beverages. The tables looked clean and like a decent place to hangout. Staff seemed friendly, although they weren’t very helpful. Which is fine, but when there’s no prices listed anywhere it’s not efficient or inviting.

One of the most comfortable spaces in Denton, everyone is so much fun to be around and there's obvious care for the community radiating from the space. Plus an outstanding selections of drinks whether to go or for there, alcoholic or not. Love that there's always a cider or seltzer available so I can drink something gluten free near my beer drinking friends. Also there's a really good dog sometimes

Such a chill vibe away from the crazy city of Dallas. Plus Gary was very sweet. Greeted you as soon as you walked in. Checked in to make sure you were still doing well. 1,000% perfection of customer service. (Btw he’s a handsome dog) Will definitely be coming back

Google
I looooove Bearded Monk! Constantly rotating taps of solid local beers. Great hangout spot with free (but not dive-bar level) darts. They also have events and comedy shows from time to time. Check it out!

If you’re in Denton and want to snag some beers to go, please check out The Bearded Monk. Ben and his team of Beertenders enjoy and sell beer. You can find some of the latest beers as well as some nostalgic beers you don’t always see in the big box stores. The space seems small on the outside you would expect an antique quaint shop. Then you go in and see an impressive tap wall of crushable beer, rows of beers to purchase, and a cold case. The Bearded Monk has a quirky and lovable attitude and vibe that you want to stay all day. By 5 p.m., scrolling and enjoying my beer, I think I should have been gone a long time ago. SMH. It was so peaceful sitting at a table. If I had my book I would have been in complete bliss! You can bring food from the nearby food Truck or that amazing Mexican restaurant around the corner. I don’t get to Denton that often but when I do; The Bearded Monk is on the list.

Google
We have been here before and would have given it 5 stars but the last time took it down to 4 due to the bartender. Previously we had great service and some small tastes of the beer available which is no longer available. This time under poured and over priced. Also the previous bartenders always interacted with us but not on this Sunday March 23rd. We were one and done and went next door to Denton County Brewing company

Yelp
I love this place!! Super chill, charming, great music + vibes. Bottle shop and beers on tap / canned for dining in. If you like craft - put this on your list. They also offer beer to go in a styrofoam cup for walking / shopping.

Yelp
A trip to downtown the downtown Denton, Texas, area would not be complete without a stop at the Bearded Monk brewpub; while the burly and appropriately bearded owner tells you the same recipe for beer: Fermented barley malt, hops, and water, with some sugar to start the whole process into action, he will engage in conversation about how the Bearded Monk was started by a few friends who had a bit of home brewing experience, at home: The end result is a great experience for you! Remember that a forefather of colonial days, Benjamin Franklin, an inventor and member of the Continental Congress, in Washington, D.C. famously said, "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." Enjoy the sunshine when it's sunny, and get out there! Cheers, Mark F. Cheers, Mark F.

Yelp
An amazing selection of unique and hard to find beers. Staff is friendly and efficient. Love going into a place where the music is low enough that you can actually talk to the people at your table.
google avatar

Lauren G.

Yelp
I've only ever been here during events that they host, but each time I have gone the staff have been nothing but kind and are extremely helpful when it comes to deciding on what to drink. I love the atmosphere and always enjoy visiting!

Yelp
What a great place and awesome owner! Ben was so friendly, I would be a regular if I was a local and I don't drink beer! I was on a business trip and came in looking for beer for my hubby. Ben helped me find stuff he would like. They have a cool selection and he showed me some hard to find beers. My husband also collects stickers and Ben hooked us up with several. After buying the beer, Ben threw in a couple koozies. I also found a cool Beer Journal that I bought as well. Ican't wait to actually take my husband, I know he will love hanging out here.

Yelp
One of the best places in Denton to get craft beer. Some of the friendliest staff around, great selection of beer and tons of things during the week.

Michelle D.

Yelp
Jason and I live in Florida but when we come home for a visit, we always make it to The Bearded Monkey . I love the street tacos, the beer is always cold. Great bartenders ! Michael is friendly and runs a bar like it should be run.

Yelp
Traveling and stopped in. Love the atmosphere. Super knowledgeable staff that can walk you thru the beer selection. Wide selection if you want to take something home. If back in the area will definitely be back.

Yelp
It ain't pretty. It's pretty funky. But it's our favorite beer bar. Many beers on tap with glorious hand drawn boards to show you what's on tap. It's a great place to waste an afternoon! They don't serve food, but they do have "Lord Nuts" peanuts which are amazeballs! And behind the bar is a food court with great selections. You should go! Really. Now!
google avatar

Yelp
Well you know how your opinions change over time. Well meeting Ben and finding the wife's favorite Sangria doesn't hurt. Also we like just hanging out here and talking over beverages. Many new choices are offered and all the Staff including Ben are very helpful in making recommendations. Plus I chose the Bearded Monk to purchase beverages to take to my friend in the Netherlands. He enjoyed Community's Mosaic IPA and soon will be enjoying Epic's Big Bad Baptist! Will continue to return!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Bearded Monk is likely numero uno in bottle shops North of DFW, if not the entire metroplex (I've not costed them all so I can't rightly say). Ben and crew know their beers and love sharing knowledge and the craft with anyone willing to pause a moment in this crazy life and have a chat. Excellent recommendations, excellent selection, superb hospitality. Do not pass them up!
google avatar

Maria H.

Yelp
Super nice staff and love the menu and the different purchasing options through out. They have Schilling, which is my favorite cider brand I found a few years ago in San Diego and have a hard time finding places so they won me over immediately with that.

Yelp
I'm not a Denton resident, but I have friends here, and they're thrilled about this place. It's definitely a good example of Denton's continuing move towards being kind of the "Austin North" in terms of, well, a lot of things - college town, music scene, hipsters (whether you love them or not), locally owned cool & funky joints etc. I visited with some of these resident friends on a Saturday evening during the Denton Jazz Festival. You can either buy beer here for consumption on premises, or buy it to go (including getting your growler refilled). They offer a number of brews on tap, as well as a large selection of cans and bottles. The inside of the joint features shelves of the goods in kind of a package store format, and very comfortable and varied seating for getting your drink on right there. We grabbed some beers and piled on to a very nice couch, and listened to some tunes being spun on a modest audio system. Later, we moved outside since someone else dropped by with their dogs. The staff was very accommodating with plastic cups of water for the pups on this warm day. All in all, it's a very cool place to relax, hang with friends and enjoy some suds. Perhaps best of all, it's about as far from corporate, chain and conformity as you can get, but it's very big on cool.

Yelp
I would like to give this place 5 stars but just can't. It's definitely a great place to shop for craft beer and to try something new. Prices are pretty good and they have a huge selection. They have a good amount of beers on tap and I enjoyed both beers that I tried. Now for the negatives. With all this beer to choose from, no one asked if we needed any help or offered to make any suggestions. I have never heard of 90% of the beers and would have loved if someone had attempted to offer to help. I was going to ask for help but the staff seemed to be hanging out and unavailable to help. We even heard a girl working there say 'We should kick all the customers out so that we can go home.' That didn't make us feel very welcome. While we were drinking our beers there were 3 tables that had empty bottles or glasses on them that never got cleaned up. No one ever came and checked on us. There wasn't any music or anything playing. For awhile all the staff was outside and we were the only ones in the building with no noise at all. Was really awkward. I feel like I am being generous with my 3 stars. I have always heard great things about Bearded Monk, butI'm not sure if we will be back. There are a lot of cool bars in Denton that we love and feel welcome in.

Yelp
Great new craft beer store offering a wide selection. Hard working and friendly staff make you feel welcome and will chat with you not down to you. Available in singles, 6 packs or growlers to go or a nice selection on draft. Follow on Facebook for weekly events and tappings.

Yelp
This place is superb! Came in for afterwork drinks with my boyfriend. We are both big beer nerds, and boy we were not let down!!! Interior: Chill, vintage, comfortable, welcoming, organized. Not too crowded, but it was a bit early during the week (5:30), a steady stream of people. They have local artists and even employees who have their artwork on display inside (all for sale). They also have t-shirts, locally crafted candles, beer glasses, etc etc.The vibe seemed a bit older, so even though it is a college town, most of the people coming in seemed to be young professional-ish aged. Beer Selection: Expansive, many many harder to find bottles and specialty brews. They have about 15-20 beers on tap, and the bartenders were great at recommending and letting us a have a few tasters to make sure we liked them. You can also buy and fill your growlers here which is fabulous! Bartenders: Funny, and seemed like really nice guys. Knowledgeable about the beers, the breweries, the styles, the locations and hops etc. I ended up getting the Raspberry Temptress (Imperial Milk Stout) - delicious! and they have it on draft and in big bottles. I also had the Yellow Rose (American IPA). Recommend 100%. Will become one of my regular neighborhood haunts.

Yelp
What a cool little spot for Denton. Yes, it's fits the hipster quotient. But they also have an impressive selection of beers, growlers, accompanying paraphernalia and of course t-shirts. They keep 16 beers on tap for growlers or the occasional pint. Warning, those pints can be spendy. It's a good thing East Side and OSDH&CP are all right there. The guys working were superfriendly and we chatted them up for a while on various topics beer and non beer related. They layout was great and the artwork outside the building was a great collaborative effort. There were some really amazing growlers that I'd never seen before, and I live in Portland, OR. Very impressed. Like everything else that has popped up in the new and improved Denton, The Bearded Monk fits right in and I'm sure they'll be around for quite some time. Enjoy.
google avatar

Rochelle T.

Yelp
Great beer selection, friendly people and great vibe in a fantastic town! They allow you to bring in outside food to eat while you drink a beer from the tap and decide what 6 pack or bomber you want to take home. Knowledgeable staff help you make a selection you'll love! 21 taps for growler fills plus a wide array of cans and bottles ensures everyone can find something they enjoy.
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
The breaded asshole (Ben) was a really cool guy! Very knowledgeable and friendly. Wishing him much success and many pints!
google avatar

Anna W.

Yelp
Good times! Lots of good beer selection and the company is entertaining! Really nice staff and clean place. Lots of different beers to drink here or take home with you (wine too)! We'll be coming back next time we're in the area and need a good craft beer!

Joe P.

Yelp
great dogs here. 100 percent cool people into dogs

Yelp
Ever since I turned 21, I'm always down for trying out new beers, and this place was just the right place to do so. Coming in, my friend and I were greeted by a guy working at the counter. We were unsure of what to order, so he offered us some popular brands of beers and gave us samples, which was nice. I settled for a coconutty stout while my friend settled for an IPA. There was plenty of places to sit and they also had a mini store inside that sold various beers, wines, sodas, glasses, and trinkets. The back had a couch and a bunch of board games. We played mini pool while chilling, which was quite fun. Overall, this place was great. Nice staff, great beer options, and fun games to play.

Wyatt T.

Yelp
Excellent. I love beer, you can tell the owners love beer, it has a great vibe, they know what they're doing. I had a wonderful experience, thank you.
google avatar

Yelp
I Love this Bar! You will not find a place more chill than The Bearded Monk. They have a super friendly bar staff and they are all very knowledgeable about the beer they sell. I love that I can go in and buy a bottle and take it home, or have something on tap, or even fill up a growler. Keep up the great work folks! Lora
google avatar

Dolores M.

Yelp
If U are a beer snob & love craft beer this is the place to get it. Staff are knowledgeable & friendly. Anytime I'm cravin something different they have several choices.
google avatar

Erik L.

Yelp
I couldn't recommend this place more. Great service and very knowledgeable. I can't wait to come back on my next trip to Texas.
google avatar

Will M.

Yelp
Love this place. Every time I am in the DFW area I will stop in drink some amazing craft beer and meet new friends. The beer list is sick!
google avatar

Amanda D.

Yelp
Ben is amazing and his taproom is so nice. We also had a blast sitting outside and just chatting with the locals. Ben is the kind of person you want to talk beer with without getting too "judgy" or nerdy if you don't want to. They like to keep on newer brews that have just entered the market as well as some favorites. So many bottles and can to chose from to take to go as well. Everything is very organized and staff is helpful.
google avatar

Christopher J.

Yelp
Awesome joint! If I lived local I'd be a frequent here. Excellent friendly staff. Huge selection of micro/nano beers. Had "el Clementine" wow that was good! Really recommended if you are in the area!
google avatar

Stephanie K.

Yelp
I was very excited when I heard about the Bearded Monk, and my experience there made me even more excited. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The beers here are organized by style, with each style having a different row. They also have beers on tap and excellent ciders. The atmosphere is great as well. The Bearded Monk is located directly behind East Side's beer garden and the food truck park.

Yelp
After my first visit, I was hooked and told all the beer geeks I know. I've heard great things about this place but it took me years to finally go. Now it's a must stop whenever I'm in Denton. Go as soon as you can! Phenomenal beer selection on draught (21 taps) and canned/bottled. Offer flights. Fair prices. The bartenders were happy to help, including when I asked for water or to taste a beer before buying it. There are events scheduled most nights such as live music, open mic night, or Nerd Nite (TED talks with beer). Chill place. Check out their facebook page for what's on tap and events. What was on tap wasn't up to date the day of my first visit, so a few beers were already gone; hopefully that doesn't happen often. Regardless, I had a great experience. Regarding someone else's review that there are too many TX beers on tap, I didn't think so. To me, there were plenty of non-TX beers and many of the TX beers I saw were uncommon - many of them I hadn't seen before (FYI 13 TX / 21 at the time of this review). I stopped by today in order to see what they had on tap and planned for the week and the founders, Ben and Ben, were there working. Friendly guys and gave me a heads up on the major beers and events coming up such as the 12 Beers of Christmas. Again, highly recommended.
google avatar

Sally C.

Yelp
Spiffy growler fill/beer bar/bottle shop just off the square. The space is all creaky wood floors, flea market chairs/tables, board games and chill music. Too many TX beers on tap but it's hard to be too critical for supporting local...a bit more diversification would be nice though.
google avatar

Karen E.

Yelp
I didn't know anything about craft beer and was afraid it was going to be all rose hips and essence of something or other. I was assisted in seeing the errors of my way as we tasted several different beers. Real beers, by the way, and we found a great light bodied pilsner that was perfect for movie night. Go in and tell Ben what you like and see what he has to offer. Especially if you're having a rough day, he is a bright spot in Denton.
google avatar

Jamie W.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped into The Bearded Monk while we were visiting a friend. We ran into the owner and he was nice and personable and recommended we come back the following night for an event. We came back and the atmosphere was great. They don't serve food, but if you come back at night they have food trucks set up next door and they are delicious!
google avatar

Preciosa J.

Yelp
This place is a slice of heaven. Amazing, unique selection of beer, knowledgable, awesome staff, and you can get a growler filled while you shop, or kick back with a beer and play a board game. Go!! You won't regret it!!!
google avatar

Thomas L.

Yelp
Fantastic establishment. Chill atmosphere, crazy awesome stock of craft beers, and always great people hanging out there. I love how much they collaborate with other businesses, artists, and organizations around town and constantly give back to the Denton community. Tons of open mic nights, comedy nights, art shows, and lots of other cool events like that. Both the Ben's who run the Monk are super great guys and incredibly knowledgeable. Always more than happy to make suggestions or tell you anything you want to know about craft beer. If you like craft beer, or have any interest in it at all, there's for real no better place to go to than The Bearded Monk!
google avatar

Gretchen F.

Yelp
Great beer selection. Laid back and fun. Great place to chill and hang out. The two Bens and Byron really know their stuff, and if you're not sure what you want, they'll point you in the right direction. I always have a great time when I'm here!
google avatar

Alvin R.

Yelp
Awesome place! Friendly staff that are well educated in craft beer. We found plenty of great tasting beer on tap that we loved. Cheers to The Bearded Monk!
google avatar

Katherine S.

Yelp
We always stop at The Bearded Monk when we are in Denton. Ben makes this place so welcoming. Last night to celebrate a raspberry beer, they did a raspberry throwing and mouth catching contest. Hilarious. Between this place and Denton County next door, you can go back and forth between them. Great group of regulars as well to hang out with. The "famous pizza" food truck that is parked there permanently is yummy by the slice goodness. Win win. Places like this makes me want to move to Denton.
google avatar

Brendan S.

Yelp
Good tap selection, cans in the fridge too. Great selections of bottle and cans to go. Growler fills available. Friendly and courteous staff. Laid back atmosphere and be sure to ask about The Monastery club.
google avatar

Jim D.

Yelp
Here's the thing. You'll walk in to The Monk and think, wow, the selection in here is amazing, it's super chill and I'm right by the food truck park. But to quote Billy Mays "THAT'S NOT ALL". See, what really makes The Monk is the people. Ben Esely and his awesome staff are exactly the kind of people you want to drink beer with, talk about beer with and pillow fight with beer to raise money for Veterans with (yeah, we did that). Life is short! Don't regret all the amazing times you could have at The Monk by wasting them now!! Get there! Buy things!
google avatar

Dave R.

Yelp
As a newby to Denton, I was searching for a place that was beercentric. I found it in the Bearded Monk. or BMonk. Excellant selections of beers and ciders. The staff is cool and helpful. Even the regulars are cool and helpful. There are NO TV's. Algonquin conversations?? At some levels yes. Shotgun Fridays? Yes Cool music? Well sometimes when Ben E isn't there. Where else could I go and set up my turntables and DJ on a tuesday and start a scene? Nowhere thats where. Come in and have a great beer or buy some obscure beers for your pleasure today.
google avatar

Cheryl F.

Yelp
Stopped in yesterday with my husband, who is a craft beer lover. He was not disappointed with the selection of different beer or the knowledge of the bartender. I prefer wine to beer, but after the green tea sour beer (Matchadoaboutit) I may become more of a beer drinker.

Emily S.

Yelp
The bearded monk is a great place to chill and find a good drink. The bartenders have been voted best of Denton several times and can help even the pickiest patron (me) find a brew. The atmosphere is always fun and inviting. Their special events are always a blast.
google avatar

Anthony M.

Yelp
This place is the place to go. They change the selection often but you can always find you're favorites. And if you don't have time to enjoy the establishment they have a very nice selection of beer's and wine for carry out. Price's are good, but its the staff that makes it perfect. This place will always be special for me.

Liz P.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I started coming here about 2 years ago when we were dating in college. He became close to Ben (the owner) through a business class assignment at UNT where they proposed creative marketing ideas to The Monk as part of the class project. Ben and all of those who work here are so friendly and its like walking into a place filled with people we've known for years each time we go. The beer selection is always awesome and has a mix of our favorites with some new ones that we have yet to try. The bartenders are pretty knowledgeable about what goes into the beers and what each customer might like depending on his/her taste buds. We always said the one thing missing is outdoor seating. So that would be awesome if they could find a way to expand and include that!
google avatar

Kelly G.

Yelp
Great spot for hanging out and enjoying some great craft beers. They really go out of their way to treat customers as family. Don't worry if you are new to craft beer, they are very knowledgeable and can help you find something to enjoy with everyone else or you can buy it off the shelf and take it home.
google avatar

Kecia A.

Yelp
If you live in or anywhere near Denton, this place is a must see! So many great beers on tap to try (and fill a growler) with the assistance of REAL DEAL beer experts! Also a collection of bottles on the shelf not to be rivaled. If there is a hard to find beer you are searching for, try the Bearded Monk. If they don't have it, I bet they can get it for you. A really cool atmosphere and relaxed place to have a couple of pints...did I mention that when I went they had Southern Tier's Tier De Garde...from BELGIUM on draft. Seriously. A keg from BELGIUM.
