What to Know About Traveling to Rome in 2025, When Millions Are Expected to Visit for the Jubilee

"Linda Martinez, a local who has experienced two Jubilees and is co-owner of Rome’s Beehive Hostel, advises anyone coming to the Eternal City at any point to book in advance, but recommends this even more strongly for those visiting next year. "If you’re coming in 2025, you should plan ahead for accommodation, sights like the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums, for all the things you need reservations and tickets for," she said." - Molly Fitzpatrick

We have never stayed at a hostel before despite traveling extensively through Europe. We booked Beehive for 1 night as we had an early flight home from Rome at the end of our trip and wanted to be convenient to the train station. After 3 weeks in Europe I can say this was one of the nicest places we've stayed on this trip. Sad we didn't come here for the previous 3 nights we spent in Rome. We like basic rooms provided they are affordable and clean. Beehive is fairly modern, very clean and comfortable. The shower pressure was better than any other hotel and even the hair dryer was great! Staff and other guests were friendly. I can't recommend Beehive enough. If I'm back in Rome I'll definitely consider booking here again.

Lovely hostel. Staff were so helpful and welcoming. Such a wonderful atmosphere, came for three nights with a friend and had the best time. Rooms are very comfortable and very clean. Will definitely come back to The Beehive.

Home away from HOME! This hostel is beyond the hostel. Linda and the staff were phenomenal. From booking to our arrival, Linda made sure we had the info we needed. We even had our earlier checkout than the scheduled time and appreciate it. The hostel itself is so cozy and very immaculate. The bedding was very comfy much like the ones in (at least) a 4-star hotel. We will never forget our wonderful experience in Rome and of course with the Hostel. Definitely, we'll tell our friends.

I made my way to the Beehive after hearing the owner speak on a podcast. I liked their style and decided I would support their local business. Way back when Hostels were a young persons game--the whole backpack through Europe thing-but those folks are still travelling and so is the new generation so my stay here was an amazing mix of like-minded travelers of all ages, backgrounds, and countries. The Beehive is spotless, rooms are great, staff is wonderful, GREAT location for getting around--but what made it for me is the VIBE! The daily aperitivo where you can meet those fellow travelers. The walks, the common room and community kitchen. All of it made for an amazing stay and I highly recommend and will be back for sure! Extra points for the super comfy bedding and soft towels!!

Very welcoming for all ages - was there a few days and met travellers from 23 to 86! All with a story to tell. Staff were amazing - helpful and friendly. Hostel was clean, easy to find and in a good spot to explore stunning Rome. Aperitivo time was a great way to meet others. Single room was bigger than expected. The Beehive made my first solo travel experience easy and very enjoable. Thank you! X

The Beehive is my first ever hostel and I can say it was amazing!!!🤩 There staff are so nice and friendly. The location is like a 5 minute walk from the train station that has many places to shop, buy food, and any essentials like food, clothes or any toiletries you might need. It is also close to places like the Pantheon or Trevi fountain. You could either walk about 15-20 minutes or so to see those sites.

I had a comfortable 3-day stay, coming in for the Rome marathon. It’s probably the best hostel in Rome (I realized I had stayed here several years back, and it worked for me then too). This pretty much had everything I needed. The bunk bed was comfortable, the toilets clean, and a full kitchen. Very close to the Termi station with lots of food options nearby.

This was one of the nicest hostels I’ve stayed at. Staff was very kind and friendly. The room, kitchen, and common area were all very clean and nice. Plus, the location is great as it is a very short walk from Roma Termini station which has lots of great food options.

Yelp
They are in a convenient spot but that's about it. I booked the hostel and got the top bunk. This is the only hostel where there wasn't some type of connection charge to the top bunk. It was inconvenient to sit on the floor waiting for phone to charge before going to bed instead of letting it charge overnight if there was a charger long enough. I stayed in the sweets. There was also only one sink working properly. The other one is slow so everybody fights for the one good rest room. The building is good but no noise block of any kind. It was hard to sleep at night as there are always noise from outside every night.

Yelp
this review is for a stay we had there in 2015. booked a stay here where they had put us in a room at a hotel nearby (Urbe) at 87 Euros a night. To our dismay, we found out the hotel was in incredible poor condition and was renting out to other guests at 9 Euros a night. The condition of the room was such that 9 euros a night was a believable price, but most definitely not 80+ euros a night. The bathroom at the Urbe was not sanitary, with trash on the floor and odor permeating throughout, the walls were paper thin and the conversation of guests next door could be easily heard. The mix of odor, thin walls, trash all added together to contribute to a feeling that the room was not safe to stay in. I made the decision to immediately ask for a refund. With the condition of the room, I did not feel comfortable staying even an hour in the room. We left pretty much within 15 minutes of inspecting the room. I asked for a refund for our stay but only received a partial ~27% refund with the explanation that the Urbe hotel at the time was not under ownership of the Beehive. That should not matter as the reservation was made through Beehive. Beehive should not be in the business of recommending (and taking payment for) stays at other hotels if they do not stand by them. I do hope that Beehive remodeled the Urbe since then.

Yelp
Most unprofessional hostel I have had the displeasure of doing business with. I left a google review that summed up my experience. Sorry it is so long but I had a lot to say lol! https://goo.gl/maps/LwNwRnyiXyR23s4f6

Yelp
Spent a couple of days in Rome and enjoyed the location of this hostel. The price was great and it was clean. If you're looking to get a great nights sleep this may not be your best stop. It was very noisy. The reception desk shared a wall with our room and we could hear everything. EVERYTHING... and then the cleaning lady spent most of the morning vacuuming. So loud. There was also a very strange smell. We kept the window open longer than we wanted to try and get rid of it. It's small, quaint, the staff was helpful and the price was great. Just know what you're signing up for. Bring ear plugs and a face mask and you'll be much more comfortable. I would have enjoyed my experience more if they had invested in some sound proofing and had a later cleaning schedule. Make sure to stop and eat at Central Market in the Termini station. Amazing food and wine. We made two stops and it was so worth it!!!

Yelp
The Beehive is definitely in a convenient spot, at a great price, and had friendly customer service. The reason I give it 3 stars, is that it was SO loud. Late into the night (maybe past midnight) I could hear the receptionist talking very loudly (almost every word), and early in the morning I was awoken by a vacuum cleaner. I didn't expect a hostel to be luxurious but I did hope that I wouldn't be interrupted throughout my whole night of sleeping by the staff. The beds were fine, and it was a great price for a private room. I could definitely hear people walking as well but that was more expected. I would maybe pay a little more to be in somewhere quieter next time, as we were exhausted and still had a hard time sleeping.

Yelp
Cute little hostel, tucked away, secure. Short walk to the trains. It's a very small hostel, cozy.

Yelp
Love, love, LOVE this place. Very convenient, only a few blocks from the Termini Train Station, so it's easy to get around to all the sites in Rome by train or bus. I've stayed here twice -- the first time in June 2008: I arrived in the morning, and after an all-night train ride and a long plane flight prior to that, I was desperate for a shower to clean up and wake me up before I set off to enjoy Rome. They were very kind, and while I couldn't stay in the dorm beds yet, they let me take a shower and get organized, and even gave me a map and some directions for good places to get lunch and find my way around. Three nights in the dorms was great -- they are co-ed, with bathrooms down the hall which was great. The second time I stayed here was in July 2012. I had arrived from the US late in the evening, though my luggage had decided to take a sojourn elsewhere in Europe (thanks Lufthansa), but the woman at the front desk was so helpful in letting me know how to get around and get some of the essentials that I didn't have. When my luggage arrived, they even set it next to my dorm bed for me, rather than keeping it out at the front counter. Yay! Made a very stressful situation much easier to manage. The Beehive has a wonderful outdoor area which is great for eating, reading, or just enjoying the sunshine. It's quiet and peaceful, so you don't realize that it's right in the heart of everything. They have an eating area where you can get breakfast (and sometimes dinner!) at an extra cost, and they have a desktop computer downstairs where you can access the internet. They also have wifi available for those traveling with laptops, though I had some difficulties accessing it from some parts of the hostel, but it was great from the breakfast nook and from the patio area outside. The price is great for Rome -- the off-season rates are amazing, and the high-season rates are competitive, but you get so much more comfort and less hassle than some of the places further away from town. Great staff, wonderful setting, I have even recommended it to my mom, that's how much I love this place!

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for two nights and had the best experience! Steve was lovely, and his wife Linda (even though she was out of country), was incredibly responsive. We did their family-style dinner the second night, and it's a must! It was so nice getting to meet a bunch of the other people staying at the hostel or in the area, and connect with those you wouldn't get to otherwise. We are absolutely staying here again!

Yelp
Rome was the first stop on our Europe adventure and we had decided to stay at the Beehive. There were many great things about staying here! The thing that stood out the most, was that the bed was super comfortable. Almost more comfortable than my actual bed at home. I think a number of times, we came back to the beehive for a mid-day rest, and ended up napping longer than we wanted too, because that bed was just so comfortable! The facilities were very clean, and the hosts were super friendly. The location of this hostel is also really great. It's a few blocks from Roma Termini, which means you have easy access to the buses, trains and subway to explore Rome and beyond. Apart from the station, nearby within walking distance, are restaurants, museums, and churches. We had reserved a private room with the shared bathroom. The room itself had a sink and mirror though. There were a number of shared bathrooms, some with just toilet, others with showers, but everything was kept very clean, and there never seemed to be a lot of congestion in using the shared bathrooms. I would definitely recommend considering staying the the Beehive if you are visiting Rome.

Yelp
I LOVED my stay at The Beehive! I had a private room and it was so nice and much larger than those I had in Denmark and Germany. The room was colorful and everything was very clean. I loved having a sink in my room - that was a real plus! The bathrooms were super clean and never a wait. Just a couple of blocks to the train station making getting round town super easy! The staff was lovely! They helped me navigate the city and recommended restaurants, etc. I even ended up inviting someone that worked there to go see a Roma soccer game that I had tickets for. Everything about the stay was just lovely. Definitely plan to stay with them!

Yelp
This place is conveniently located just 2 1/2 blocks from Termini Station and very easy to find. I stayed there twice on a recent trip to Italy and although the reception staff is less than enthusiastic, the rooms are comfortable and the beds are great. I don't think all of the rooms have air conditioning so I can imagine it would be hot in the summer! The second room I stayed in had a ceiling fan but low barely moved and the second setting was take off speed! Great place to stay for an overnight or two with easy access to the Metro and bus to get to other areas in Rome.

Yelp
The Beehive is a hotel/hostel. The cafe is frequented by the residents but everyone is welcome. "fresh food, made with love" I liked: - The muesli and the yogurt - The laidback atmosphere - The nice and cozy decoration Yes, you feel like in a beehive, surrounded by sweet people and with plenty of honey

Yelp
Wonderful staff. Ho-hum facilities. Good price for the area. Francesca, who worked the front desk, was great: informative and friendly. The Italian cook from Tivoli who serves breakfast at the Beehive's restaurant was a gem. We looked forward to talking to him and eating his cooking. Steve, an owner, gave us tips on going to Orvieto which was one of the highlights of the trip (thanks Steve!). Our room, in "The Suites" was decent. We stayed there for 6 nights and we never received fresh sheets or towels despite signs saying they would be changed every 3 days. Our room faced a street below which was noisy with a restaurant/bar that had people eating and smoking and talking well past midnite. Also several trash, recycling and street sweepers would go through each night interrupting our sleep. With no working AC, it was pretty hot too. The shower was elevated about 6-8 inches above the bathroom floor and required some yoga balance to emerge without falling. There are other places in this price range that include AC which is a necessity much of the year. The second leg of our Rome visit we stayed at Hotel Malu which was equally close to Termini but had better amenities and closer to more affordable restaurants. We didn't stay in the dorm/hostel part of Beehive so this review pertains to The Suites which are around the corner from the main Hive.

Yelp
Great place to eat a cosey American breakfast. The service is friendly and the music is also great. Recommended

Yelp
I am currently staying at the beehive and have stayed in the dorm, now moved on to the suites for the next few days. The only positive thing to say about this place is the friendliness of the front reception and the cook from Tivoli. Otherwise I would not be surprised if this place tanked as a result of higher quality, similarly priced options, and the rise of Airbnb, to which they have clearly not anticipated their standards. I will update upon check-out.

Yelp
We didn't stay here but should have. Steven the kind & professional man at the front counter dealt with lost Americans (my wife & I) with kindness & Italian hospitality. I hope I can book a stay here in the future. If the staff is any reflection of the service The beehive is probably a great place to stay for the world traveller with a budget to keep in mind. :) thanks again Steven.

Yelp
Is priced great close to termini and offers organic local food and breakfast with vegetarian and vegan options.

Yelp
I didn't stay here, but wish I had. After arriving at and being disappointed with a nearby hostel (Romangelo, right on the other side of the Termini train station), I looked up "free wifi" hoping to find somewhere that wasn't dank and dark and depressing to work for the day. Beehive appeared, and when I arrived, I was greeted by staff that treated me like a guest despite the fact that I had no plans to stay--they offered to make me a coffee despite the cafe being closed, and the in-house massage therapist added me to her schedule though it was her day off. The space was clean, bright, the wifi is fast, the cafe is delightful, and the AC works. I can't speak to the rooms, but I'd expect them to be just as organized and well-run as the rest.

Yelp
Omg this place was AWESOME. I was not expecting it at all. We traveled all over Italy and this was the nicest and cheapest place we stayed. It was so clean and well maintained. We got a kitchen, a beautiful garden, and free wifi.

Yelp
We had a great experience at the Beehive on two separate stays in May 2013. The first night was in the main building with shared bath, nice room, quiet. The next day we left for an 11 day cruise to the eastern Med, then returned to Rome and the Beehive for a few days before catching the train for Florence and Venice. On the second stay we were in the Sweets with a private bath, in a building around the corner. Good room but TOO NOISY! Garbage trucks, street sweepers, partying people, you name it, and the balcony doors simply do not do much to block the sound. Noise was our only problem at the Beehive, earplugs might have been an easy solution. Be sure to bring a pair. On the plus side: the rates were very good, and the location of this hotel is incredible, two blocks from Roma Termini and wherever you want to go in Italy. We left the Beehive, walked to Termini, bought our tickets to Florence at the Frecchio machine and were literally on the train moving within 18 minutes! It was so amazing, you simply can't beat the location for convenience and super efficient connections. The Roma Metro is also at Termini. On our next trip I will absolutely stay in the shared bath rooms, they're cheaper, the baths are always available and it seems like those rooms are in a quieter part of the main building. I would make a point to inquire about the noise. BTW, there are tons of restaurants within a few blocks, and a small supermarket about three blocks away, it's all very convenient. A great place to stay in Rome, but they really should do something about sound insulation. Ciao!
