The Belfry is an enormous complex, well positioned close to the M6 and M42 motorways near Birmingham.
It is well-known for its golf which appears to have a good reputation but our experience of staying as guests was less favourable. From the outset, I should say that there appears to have been some problem with our pre-paid reservation, which I am still addressing with the hotel.
Leaving that to one side, whilst our room was well-appointed and clean and tidy, it had disabled facilities, which is fine, but the washbasin in the bathroom was far too low for someone able-bodied as I am. The room was very warm and there seemed to be no means of reducing the temperature other than opening the window. This had the desired effect, save that it was looking out onto the bin store and there was a continuous machinery noise, probably a compressor. This, combined with party in the next room which we could hear clearly through the interconnecting (but locked) door, made for a restless night's sleep.
Because the hotel is, in the main, low-rise, the distance between bedroom, function rooms, reception and the breakfast cafeteria were quite large so not particularly convenient. Breakfast was disappointing solid fried egg, dry black pudding, hot cereal bowls. We were in something of a hurry but, try hard as we might, we could not attract anyone's attention to provide tea or coffee.
I'm in no hurry to return.
