"This bar specializes in picklebacks, but if you’d rather not get drunk on pickle juice, come at Happy Hour instead." - Katherine Lewin

Google
Old stomping ground and decided to stop by quickly to grab a pickleback shot. My fave is the original but they also have a spicy option. It wasn’t that crowded since it was a bit early in the evening. This bar would be a great date night spot if you come before it gets busy.

This is a cute spot for cocktails! Their mocktail was also great! Would definitely come back again!

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE AS A STRAIGHT MALE. Went here over the weekend on a first date. Was hoping to get seats at the bar but none were available as they were fairly busy (but not packed) I saw they had some tables open in the back but wasn't sure if you could just seat yourself or needed someone to seat you as there wasn't a hostess or anything when you walked in. Decided to wait at the bar to ask a bartender. Took about 15 mins for one to acknowledge my existence, at which point they informed me "thats not their department" but they would ask someone else. Totally fine. They told a woman behind the bar & she said she would be with me in a couple minutes at which point I asked if we could just seat ourselves. She paused & just gave me a dirty, eye rolling annoyed look, the "your straight male privilege is showing look" (if you know, you know) just repeated she would be with us in a couple minutes. Proceeds to finish helping the people she was with (but at no point look into the back towards the table section or check a computer or anything) She then comes out from behind the bar to inform us there weren't any tables available. A: There were quite a few clearly available B" She clearly never even looked if there were. Also if you knew there "weren't any available" why would you proceed to make us wait a few more minutes to then come out from the bar & tell us this vs just telling me that in the first place. I decided not to make a scene and has us leave as I had just met my date at the bar & didn't want to be "that guy" To that bartender; Apologies for my existence as a straight male. I'm sorry it's such an inconvenience for you. You keep doing you tho. You're def very inclusive and make everyone feel welcome

Nice vibe with not so loud music, and pickleback. My coworker set up an early new year party for us and he chose Belfry which brought me into the world of pickleback. I was not so sure I like it or I hate it. But to be fair, it tasted good. lol Drink was reasonable price, and decent quality. Pickle jar was a great deal keeping you sober during a heavy drink.

Amazing service, very nice atmosphere. The drinks are great too. I had an aged old fashioned .

Refreshingly dark & relaxing on a sunny/hot Saturday afternoon. People seemed real nice. Beautiful space. Great cocktails, picklebacks, & pickles!

Google
Loved this place! The bartender was so sweet, wish i got her name. Pickle back shots were great and my cocktail animal mother was delish😝 loved the vibe overall. Yes pricey but for the city not really and at least the quality is 💯

Google
Stopped by for drinks after dinner, and it was exactly how I remembered it back in 2020, right before everything shut down for Covid. Come for the pickle back shots, stay for the vibe.

Yelp
such a beautiful interior, especially with its holiday decor. the ambiance was great, great music, impeccable mood lighting, great vibes. my sister believes this place has the best pickleback shots in the city, so of course we had to stop by when we were in the east village. they have a great little selection of pickleback shots, we ordered the pinaback pickleback shot that comes with pickled pineapple brine and whiskey, it was great. what was even better was the pickled pineapple we got on the side. it was so unique, tangy, almost a bit spicy even, and perfectly pickled. anyone who is a fan of pineapple and pickles would fall in love with this. overall, i'd be happy to come back sometime. can't complain about the prices either!

Yelp
Love this spot! I stumbled across it because my colleagues and I were looking for a great happy hour in the area and the belfry didn't disappoint. It looks small from the front, but it's a lot bigger when you get inside. The happy hour prices are some of the best! I had the aperol spritz which was made exactly to my liking. Really quick service and nice to be able to order at the bar when you're paying with separate cards. If you're looking for a laid back spot that can cater to a decent sized group- look no further!

Yelp
The staff are very friendly and the drinks are amazing. Ambience is very calm when I go which is around 4pm. It starts picking up after 6pm but you never feel like you have to scream to have a conversation. They have a great selection of spirits, my favorite being Fortaleza. If you like egg white and a little spice, I recommend the Purple Haze.

Erjon C.

Yelp
Best espresso martini ever! Service is amazing and the place is super clean and good looking!!

Samantha W.

Yelp
A gorgeous spot to get a drink! Met a friend here for Happy Hour on a Monday, and they have a bunch of daily deals. Monday's deal was $12 martinis all night. I had a few espresso martinis, which were delicious. I feel like it's always hit or miss with espresso martinis, but the Belfrys bartender nailed it. We also got some of their seasonal cocktails, and those were delicious as well. They both had a savory aftertaste to them, which I thought was quite creative and refreshing! Would definitely come back to check out their other weekly HH deals.

Emily H.

Yelp
Came here for a friend's birthday on Tuesday night. Bartender was so nice and made the best pickle martini!

HeeJin C.

Yelp
Such a cute place to grab drinks with friends. The music was on point, and the picklebacks were amazing. Some of the cocktails were a bit too experimental or didn't taste as good, but the classics are done right here. However, service was amazing- when we told the server we didn't like one of the cocktails, she was so accommodating and let us send it back for another drink.

Marie M.

Yelp
The Belfry is one of my favorite bars in NYC. The vibes are great, music is good and I always enjoy the cocktails. Also an extensive pickle back shot list which is always fun! Very closely located to the L train and union square too.

Nicole K.

Yelp
Old stomping ground and decided to stop by quickly to grab a pickleback shot. My fave is the original but they also have a spicy option. It wasn't that crowded since it was a bit early in the evening. This bar would be a great date night spot if you come before it gets busy.

Yelp
Walked in on a Friday night. It's a popular bar by college campuses. It gets crowded easily. I specifically recommend people come here for unique pickle back flavors. I don't know any other bars that make the different flavors. I recommend the piñaback. I came around the pandemic and was sad it closed, but I'm glad it's back.

Katherine L.

Yelp
We came here on Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. Not sure why, but this place was completely empty when we walked in at 3pm. We didn't mind it at all, in fact we were glad since we were able to enjoy without any distraction or interruption. Our friends who are locals warned us, thinking there weren't even going to be standing room. The were having pickleback discounts while we were there, and each pickleback was only $5 - this is totally unheard of!! I also love that they have such unique offerings such as Kimchi back, BBQ back, Pina back, etc. We tried a few variety and I think my favorite was the Pina back. They also have other solid cocktail options, no more than $15. solid find!

Liz B.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite bars! They have a great happy hour and it's a really nice dim vibe here! They're known for their pickle and I tried the spicy tequila pickle back shot which was good!

Liz C.

Yelp
***Loud music, Spacious, Quick Service*** I ordered the Secret Garden which was very delicious but a bit light on the alcohol. The service was quick and music was good, but too loud.

Sarah C.

Yelp
Very fun bar with a speciality in picklebacks. I have heard of picklebacks for some time but never tried one before -- I tried their piñaback and it was fantastic. The rest of the group tried their own and we were all converts. The cocktails were also quite good, and the vibe and decor of the place was very cool, with brick walls and lots of plants and an old tandem bike out front. Service was attentive and pleasant.

Marcela L.

Yelp
Cozy ambiance with comfy seating throughout. A little dark, but I suppose it's for a romantic vibe. We stopped by on a weekday night to find only four other patrons. The drinks were tasty and sounded like health drink ingredients! Good spot for a date night, but not a first date as it is too dark.

Jax L.

Yelp
EDIT: I called to see if I could get a refund of the difference and the owner personally took the call. He apologized for the mistake and refunded the drinks. I've always enjoyed the cocktails at the Belfry but now I can confirm the customer service is just as good! Stopped by for some drinks last night (Wed) with a friend and participated in the Old Fashioned Wednesday special... or so I thought. I ordered 2 of the Belfry Old Fashioneds which are part of the special according to the menu. My friend paid the bill while I was in the restroom so I didn't see until she sent the receipt later that they charged me full price for both of them. The drinks are always great but if you decide to partake, make sure you get charged the correct amount so you don't get screwed over like I did...

Kate C.

Yelp
Adorable bar with a great list of cocktails. We walked in at 6:30 and didn't have trouble getting a table for four. The ambiance really makes the place special - I couldn't stop looking at the decorations. They specialize is pickle/brine drinks but there are so many other options. They have a fun list of bar snacks too.

Ashley B.

Yelp
Stopped in after dinner on a Monday evening for a quick drink or two. It's just as cute inside as it is in pictures! It wasn't busy as it was a Monday evening, and your typical super dim, need-your-iPhone-flash light to read the menu bar. We found the drinks to be a reasonable price ($14 for a cocktail) pretty cheap for New York! And they were really good too! I had two refreshing, fruity cocktails. One was the Purple rain - it has egg whites in it for texture and it was really good! The other was the summer George and it tasted like summer. I'm a fan! Service was great! Only docking a star because service was incredibly slow, especially on a Monday evening when it wasn't so busy. They do really take their time and it seemed like it was because the staff was all just hanging out. I'm really happy to see the servers and bartenders can hangout and have a good time too, they deserve to! And it makes for a really great work environment which I can feel how it translate to the great customer service. It's just that drinks took forever and almost didn't want to get another one because it was taking too long. Besides that, the vibes and drinks were immaculate, probably will return again in the future!

Bonnie T.

Yelp
been to the belfry a couple times, not for their cocktails, but for the variety of pickle backs and pickles offered! i myself love a bloody mary so i often order the bentley combination with a vodka shot. if you like it spicy, maybe order the chipotle chase. cocktails here tend to miss, rather than hit. the pickle martini tastes like gasoline in a glass with a whisper of pickle. other drinks are too sweet or just meh live music on wednesdays and HH from 3-5 on weekdays. the staff here are nice! when it gets busy they may forget about you sometimes but such is life. the place gets kinda loud and busy in the evenings with the lively nature of it all. i've always ordered a small jar of pepperoncinis to take home with me.

Taylor Z.

Yelp
Pretty fun moody bar. The picklebacks were great that we got as a group. Lots of seating and was pretty big place.

Cyrus A.

Yelp
The Belfry is a great cocktail bar on 14th St, a stone's throw from the L. They're known for their picklebacks, but I've tried a number of their cocktails, and have been impressed across the board. My personal favorite is the Belfry Old Fashioned, a slight twist on a classic that is fantastic. Service has been consistently excellent, though they do get busy at peak hours, so the bar can get quite crowded at times. Still, they manage to keep a laid back, intimate vibe, even when there's a rush. There's some seating near the door, followed by a long bar with stools and standing room, leading to even more seating toward the back. Definitely a great spot to grab an excellent cocktail with a friend or a small group!

Chris K.

Yelp
Cozy cocktail bar great for a nightcap or to sit and chat with friends. The bartenders are very friendly and can make a great cocktail.

Carrie M.

Yelp
Super cool little bar, specializes in pickle backs. The tickleback with Mezcal was *muah***

Alie R.

Yelp
Great bar to visit with friends or a date! It's super cute, but casual enough that you'll want to stay a while. The drinks were consistently great. Highly recommend their pickleback shots (they have a huge variety of pickle juices to choose from!), and their dirty martinis were DELICIOUS. Some of the best I've had in the city! My friend ordered a Bee's Knees and that was delicious as well. The bartenders couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. It's a bit loud, but definitely a spot to visit if you want great drinks, good music, and a great night out!

Rebecca Q.

Yelp
Gets really crowded on the weekends so I wouldn't recommend as a place to catch up with friends. Regardless, the drinks were pretty good, nothing spectacular, and decor was moody and dim.

Taylor T.

Yelp
Aner and Gustavo, so much could be said!!! Above and beyond customer service and kindness towards patrons. Recommend this bar to anyone and everyone!!! Made for a great Christmas Eve. Don't miss out on these two and the service and drinks they provide

Richa V.

Yelp
Stopped here to catch up with a friend! Vibes here are very mellow with low lighting that makes you want to chill here for hours. We came for happy hour and it wasn't super crowded which was nice. Drinks were really good! My friend got the espresso martini and I got a cocktail. This is cute spot to come hang out with a friend with good music and great service.

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
Picklebacks, Picklebacks, Picklebacks! Oh Yes, three shots of first whiskey, then Belfry's spicy pickle brine I had. What a fun introduction to this it was. Friends knowing I love whiskey sours knew! Beautiful bar this is. Not clear if any music was playing for it was so packed and noisy from the crowd on this late Friday night. Not usually liking that yet so glad I stayed anyways for the scene! CHEERS!

Rose B.

Yelp
Good bar, good prices for downtown NYC. Love the cozy feel with all the wood & lighting. Only drawback was the pickle martini was DISGUSTING. I got the sour pickle martini and had to hold my breath while drinking it. Went for a vodka soda on drinks 2 & 3 which was way better.

Kristen C.

Yelp
This place is so inconspicuous! I've passed by so many times but never realized what was there. I came for trivia with a large group and it was so much fun. The vibe is pretty nice for East Village! Warning: there is no food ):

Leslie O.

Yelp
A great find along East 14th Street. An unassuming place right near the new claw machine arcade. Stopped in on a hot weekend afternoon. Cool, dim, and tastefully decorated bar. Bartender very friendly, helpful. Got the specials (margarita/espresso martini) of the day. Espresso martini--not overly sweet but really coffee flavored forward. The margarita very fresh tasting, no mixers here--must be real juice. Once inside you forget you're on the busy 14th street thoroughfare that can be hectic. A great place to relax and wind down. The music wasn't too loud so you can talk to your table--good playlist too. Will be back!

Via G.

Yelp
Great cocktails and a super fun lively vibe. Lots of young energy in here. Def worth a visit!

Winnie C.

Yelp
Got here on a Saturday around midnight and there was a line. We waited about 30min to get in. There was free coat check. The bar wasn't too crowded thanks to "traffic control". We ordered three cocktails for roughly $13 per drink- they were decent but not too strong. I liked their lighting but the music (pop songs) played seemed kinda outta place. When we left the bar around 1, there was no line. Overall, a nice spot to stop by for a drink if your in the area but not worth a long wait.

Nicole D.

Yelp
Great staff, super nice. Gorgeous ambience. Very sexy. They don't really do food except for some pickled things so come here before or after for some sexy vibes. Music choices were stellar and just the right volume so we could still have a conversation without yelling. Whole vibe was immaculate. Had a bottle of Laurent Perrier and sat in a little nook. Fantastic place for cocktails with friends.

Joan S.

Yelp
Hands down, my favorite bar in NYC. As soon as you walk in, you are enveloped in the cozy, warm, and rustic atmosphere. I've taken a handful of my out-of-town friends here, and it has become one of their favorite bars. Drinks & Deals: They have great happy hour deals (2-7PM)! Their happy hour is until 7pm, you can get beer or a glass of wine for $5. I had Pinot Grigio and also a white Russian. I'm a lover of coffee so White Russian was absolutely delicious ($15). Their menu is seasonal so I had this during the winter. During the summer, I had their cider beer ($8) which is pretty good. The only downside to this place is that they don't sell food. Service: AMAZING service. I've been here probably 5 times (I stopped keeping count after awhile...) and each time there is someone different on their staff that serves us. However, each time the service has been absolutely phenomenal. Of not, it can get pretty packed later in the evening. Atmosphere: 10/10! If the cutely-decorated entrance with its many plants isn't inviting enough..this place's amazing ambience is immediately apparent with the dim-lighting and lovely interior decorations. They change up their decoration every season. Right now (it's summer), they have plants hanging from the wall. During the winter, they have the place decorated with pine cones and lovely ceiling wintry decorations. They often have live music playing in the evening, elevating an already wonderful experience. Overall: My favorite bar in NYC, no question about it.

Daniella L.

Yelp
The Last Waltz: Has Mezcal, Pineapple, & Chiptole - it has a smoked and spiced taste to it. Midwest Mule - This drink was sweet and refreshing, great for the summer. Classic - Pickle Back, Irish Whiskey and Sour Pickle. Down side, they do not serve food but you're more than welcome to being outside food in. Waitress was super nice and welcoming. Great place for a date night and meeting friends up for drinks. Super laid back bar. I would totally go there again!

Kristy R.

Yelp
We loved this bar! We recently came here while in the neighborhood since we wanted a somewhat quiet place to grab a drink and have a conversation without crazy loud people breathing down our necks. The Belfry surely delivered. When we walked in we were told there was a free coat check, which in December is a nice touch. We grabbed two stools against the wall since the bar was full and we didn't need a table in the back. This place is spacious. The lighting is beautiful and makes you feel like you're in an outdoor oasis while you're really inside on a chilly NYC night. Music is an eclectic mix. Our waitress was super nice and gave us plenty of time to go over the menu. I had the whiskey Richard and it was delicious! It was sort of like an old fashioned but with chocolate bitters and simply put, the drink just worked. My boyfriend started with a hard lemonade type cocktail and switched to a classic old fashioned for his second drink - he enjoyed both. They also offer a ton of picklebacks but we stayed away from those. Prices are what you've come to expect while drinking handmaid cocktails in NYC. Service is fast and friendly. The place is beautiful. They take the stools away at 10PM but we left just before then so I'm unsure if this becomes more of a lounge/club spot. If you want a nice relaxed place to enjoy a cocktail, this is your spot.

Kars F.

Yelp
This was my first time going to this bar, and even though it was busy, the service was great. Our server, Laura, was fantastic and was attentive and personal despite being busy. I was very impressed with her service skills and would definitely recommend having her as your server. Also, they have lights that you can push! It was very satisfying and fun

Kathy M.

Yelp
I absolutely loved everything about this place! From the outside, it's an unassuming, unmarked, no-sign doorway into HEAVEN! The decor was charming, there was live music and PICKLE BACKS! There were 4 of us and we were able to find a table towards the back, near the music trio. A vocalist sitting on a Cajon and a tambourine wrapped around her foot; a keyboardist and a guitarist playing melodic renditions of top 40s hits from the 90s and 2000s. It really set the mood right for us. So, we're sitting in this cute place with live music - only thing left if service and drinks. BOTH WERE AWESOME! The bartender was friendly and attentive and I just love taking shots with pickle brine! And, for some strange reason, it's not very common. But The Belfry specializes in it, which means they specialize in making my heart happy! I can't wait to go back the next time I'm in NYC!

Slick O.

Yelp
Came in for a first date on a Friday. Made a reservation which I recommend. The hostest / server was so nice. Her drink recommendations were spot on and she was super accommodating when I needed to sub some ingredients in a very tasty mezcal drink. Great vibes, drinks and service. I will frequent this place after this great experience.

Melanie D.

Yelp
Busy spot, i had walked in and the first table was free. It was fate i was supposed to be here because the rest of the bar and tables were packed and full! The drink menu was good, a few cool options. The only downfall for me was that the space was very tight and small but hey were in manhattan i cant ask for much more. Highly recommend to others, the ambiance was IG worthy

Sarah P.

Yelp
This is a gorgeous space. I brought some out of town friends in here for a drink before they had to head to Penn Station. The drinks are pretty good, I enjoy their beer options. Last night I opted for the pumpkin ale they had on draft, very good. The service was great. The bartender gave us space to chat and catch up but also made sure our drinks were always full. I wish their HH had a few more options/ extended until 8, but I am still appreciative that they even have a HH at all. Great place to grab a drink with a friend ( or two) though I don't recommend for super large groups, definitely also gives a great date atmosphere with the lights. A great choice ( probably the best) in this area. 4.5/5

Urszula P.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by this bar. I highly recommend it if you have a group that needs a space for happy hour as this place takes reservations! It's incredible and unheard of. This is a pretty bar with wood design and high ceilings so I also appreciated the ambiance. It also allows food to be delivered or brought in so your friends enjoy drinks and food. Plus the staff actually paid attention to us. My friends and I took advantage of this and grabbed some hummus fronext door for shareable snacks. If you are a fan, they had live music starting around 9 when we were leaving (likely only specific nights).

Dave F.

Yelp
"Meh. I've experienced better." Came for happy hour at suggestion of a friend. Ultra crowded and beer selection is just okay. If you're looking for Happy hour beer specials, there were three and they are basics like $6 Brooklyn lager. There was a $7 Finback beer, which was a Friday special. Maybe their mixed drinks are better. Make sure you request the right beer, because if you just say Finback IPA, the bartender doesn't verify which one of the three you want and then tells you its your fault for not specifying, lol. Also, when HH is nearly over, they take away all the stools from the far wall from the bar siting that the bar is too packed, yet it didn't fix anything since the stools are no bigger than the width of space I already consume, which was dumb. A bartender does every so often hit all the lights at the bar and make them move; I guess to imitate like being in a belfry. Probably the coolest thing about the place. Its definitely not the disco ball towards the back. Oh and there is a coat check if you're so inclined. I personally don't see the lure here, so I probably won't be back.

Vijay S.

Yelp
Nice spot for drinks on a sat night. Was pretty packed when we walked in. The front people were pretty nice and helped us get a table pretty quick. Got the honey and milk which was different and alright. The sour pickles were pretty good. Overall good experience. The lights at night make it look pretty and instagrammable.

Rajvi S.

Yelp
Their pickle back!!! The sour pickled Irish whiskey shots is amazing. Something different. The place has a good vibe, they keep swinging the lights like bells.

Angela L.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite bars in nyc! Casual yet intimate, when you walk in it feels magical- has a great ambiance and vibe to it with all the pretty string lights hung up. I love coming here for happy hour or for late night drinks/pregame. They have several tables which makes it a good place to sit and drink with your friends all night. The half off bottles during happy hour is a great deal especially for groups or if you're planning on staying for awhile to chill. They're known for their pickleback shots which are fun to do/try with friends! It can get pretty loud and hard to hear especially weekend nights but overall such a fun cute bar and staff is always super friendly. We came sat night for a friends bday and got free pickleback shots. Another time we went, the waiter also took a shot with us. Great service with fun servers, I love this place!

Ingrid S.

Yelp
Yeah, yeah, yeah, YEAH. We get it, Yelp. They do picklebacks here for just $5. And they have a wide variety of picklebacks! So you can doctor them up and make them fancy or spicy! Woo. Picklepack and canned beer party. They also have a normal happy hour every day: 4-7pm $5 drafts/house wines & I believe mixed drinks. The beer I first picked kind of blew when I came a week ago and the only other beer was kicked (they had a only New York crafted beer happy hour/lame) and I had switched to wine. Still not a bad deal. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 3 is again, nice shots for $5. Also, my friend specifically wanted to come here for a pumpkin flavored old fashioned. It was listed in a yelp review and then we realized it wasn't on the seasonal menu and he almost cried because he promised his wife that had a bad week pumpkin old fashioneds. How did this night end up? They made them the pumpkin old fashioneds and it was effing delicious (sharing is caring) and they also burned fresh spices on fire on top of it (it was cool). Yay, Belfry! I also almost shot this down to 3 stars though because when I first arrived I asked one of the lady bartenders what the specials were: she listed the nyc draft beers, house wine, wells, and named a specialty cocktail. Near the end of the night I asked for the specialty cocktail (a cup of Amaretto, cream, and kahlua, with almonds and spices and things that were nice), a guy made it and then said it was about triple the price I was expecting him to tell me. Which would be great if this was a cup of like really nice bourbon but it was basically lightly alcohol infused cream. Regret in a cup. The decor is cute though. They have ice skates on the wall! Yay! And they do trivia on Tuesdays which people were saying is a lot of fun as we quickly exited the crowds for food.

Barney C.

Yelp
TL;DR Version: - Great trivia on Tuesdays. Always a good turn-out - Chill ambiance with a complementary rustic decor - Good drinks and pickle back shots
