What a fantastic place. Atmosphere is amazing, it’s nice to find a proper traditional bar, restaurant and hotel. Our room! WOW So beautifully decorated and comfortable. This place is a 💎 and we will be back very very soon! The evening meal was 1st class (I had the chicken and hubs had the pie) both were delicious. The breakfast this morning was fabulous. Poached eggs were perfect. all staff seemed happy which is novel in its self nowadays. From the reception lady to the young blonde chap serving breakfast. Lovely people. And a great big thanks to the chef and kitchen staff 👍 See you soon X

I had the privilege of watching my daughter get married here. A super quirky venue with a surprise around every corner. Rooms are awesome and so comfortable. Service and venue is incredible. Breakfast was superb, my only suggestion would be a tweak in the food offerings. The food that is on offer is lovely though. Would definitely recommend for a wedding or large gathering.

Quirky rooms and great service. Went for a wedding and was pleasantly suprised. There is a firepit outside which is great fun. The mens toilets are something I will always remember (see photo). Very fun. Bar staff were friendly and helpful also - great chat. Would definitely go again if I was nearby.

A home from home is where the heart is, as they say. This is not home and there was no heart to the place whatsoever! To start with, a positive - the room was beautifully styled, with a comfy bed and plump towels. Everything else about the stay was conducive to never returning. I had been recommended this place by a friend, which made the whole experience even more disappointing! From start to finish, the service was terrible. I was met with the kind of attitude that seemed shocked that I wanted to check into a room that I’d pre booked many months previously. Apathy is too weak of a word for the lack of interest. The constant loud music from speakers in the back garden could be heard through the bedroom walls, which meant there was no chance of a relaxing, early night. I felt so unwelcome that I ended up getting snacks from the village shop opposite to avoid using the bar or restaurant. The people in the village shop were so welcoming and I feel that this place reflects badly on the village. Hoping that breakfast would redeem itself, I was told that my table had already been taken by somebody else, despite the room being practically empty of guests. The cereal was delicious. The wait to hot breakfast was over 30 minutes and my eggs royale arrived stone cold. A generous portion of stone cold poached eggs on smoked salmon with stone cold muffins and congealed hollandaise. I asked for decaff latte, received the strongest non decaf coffee ever! I tried to resolve a lot of these issues during my stay, but was met with stone cold responses, take it or leave it, this is how we run it, attitude. I’ll leave it thanks and I’ve never been happier to leave a place!! I don’t understand where all the positive reviews come from! All I can think is that it must’ve been a different team working than the one that I experienced. I would not recommend a visit as a solo traveller or as any traveller. I appreciate that this is a scathing review, but it is totally honest and based upon my experience of the stay. Worst place I’ve stayed all year and disappointed doesn’t really cover it!

We stayed 2 nights in “the house of madness” one of their standard doubles. Comfy, funky and a reasonable size. Breakfast was good in the dining part of the pub. The pub part is very old and has loads of character. It’s divided equally between pub and dining and has a great atmosphere. There’s also a very good garden.|We had dinner one night. The starters were good but mains rather limited. Could do with some specials.

Sunday lunch was amazing. A proper traditional pub. Food and service were exactly what you would like to have, perfect. Plenty of drink choices. Highly recommend.

Didnt stay as a guest, just visited and enjoyed the craft fair,outside were donkeys and catering which was very good. The Bell is a very interesting inn with quirky toilets in the mens , saxaphones used to pee in!!! Great hospitality and very freindly. Well worth visiting

Lovely hotel, great bedroom (just lacking a proper bedside cabinet and a second chair in the room) but great walk in warderobe space, wonderful shower room, peaceful, comfortable bed, most importantly very dog friendly throughout. Great food for evening meals BUT sadly both breakfasts were well presented BUT luke warm/cold which somewhat spoilt it. Issue first night with being put in Stables to eat dinner with a large party group but refused and stood ground and got nice table in dining room, again wonderfully dog friendly.

We really enjoyed our meal here. The food and service were both excellent. We started the meal with a bottle of Beau Sud Rose wine and that was quite good if you disregard the cartoonish label. For the starter we had the fried peppers. These were shaped like little hot peppers but they were not hot. We really liked that dish. For the main course, I had the cod & chips and my wife had the chicken hogao. Both arrived very hot and tasted great. The tartar sauce with mine was made at the restaurant and was excellent. The only issue with the tartar sauce was there was so little of it. By the time we finished there was no room for desert. We really like this place and may return tonight if we get back from Cambridge in time.

We were lucky enough to stay here in one of the lodges on a Secret Escapes deal. The lodges are part of a recent refurbishment to the pub and are nestled quietly at the back, surrounding a massive fire pit. Each lodge is unique in its design, and has its own private outdoor area complete with fireplace and chairs to snuggle up. We stayed in the Pretty Vacant lodge, the focal point being a massive Vacant/Occupied sign above the bed, which you could move from vacant to occupied. Attention to detail is key, and the room provides the guest with a host of thoughtful extras. From the local toiletries in the bathroom which you could purchase in the village, to the delicious cream tea that welcomes you in the room. We had dinner that evening in the pub. The food was really delicious, and well portioned. A similar themed followed at breakfast the following morning. The entire pub and accommodation is really quirky, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Whilst there is not much to do in the surrounding village, this does not matter as The Bell is so charming you don't want to leave the room, or venture any further for food.

Recently reopened, refurbished and fabulous! It has been furnished and decorated to a very high standard. Traditional country decor is highlighted in the long wooden tables, benches and open fireplaces but the quirkiness is in the detail. I especially love the top hats turned into lamp shades but remain dubious about the use of tubas as urinals, picture to follow when I have persuaded one of my male friends to take a photo. Although impressive and very inventive, I fear that alcohol and a gentlemen's aim may be asking for a big mess. It really is a delightful and welcome addition to a sleepy country village and fingers crossed I will have more lovely things to say after I have tried the food. Keep your ears peeled.

Had lunch here recently with friends and the fish and chips were some of the best I've ever had. The chips were amazing. Will definitely return here next time I'm in Wadhurst.

I have heard great things about the food untried so I can not comment! What they have achieved is undoubtedly a 1st class transformation, full of great well thought-out features and the lighting makes it a very welcoming sight on a dark winter evening. Aspects are absolutely spot on, bordering on the quirky, but I was disappointed. I have to say it was a case of trying a little too hard and, rather than being the go-to-happening-place, it was a little soulless! This may be because there is not really enough seating in the bar area and we ended up with a choice of either the small room between the bar or the room with the long table not the best options to create a welcoming atmosphere. I will give it a 2nd chance as it is very handy (walking distance) but it will have to go some to regularly lure me away from the Salehurst Halt (5 miles away!) Sorry guys so very nearly but not quite!

Visited Saturday. Fab evening. Food absolutely delicious and staff couldn't have been more helpful.
