Downtown Dallas Scores a Cute New Costa Rican Coffee Shop | Eater Dallas

"I found a brand-new coffee destination in Downtown Dallas that’s 150 years in the making: Berni Bean Coffee Company, located at the base of the Hartford Building at 400 North Saint Paul Street, Suite 120. The shop is the brainchild of brother-and-sister team Giuliana and Stefano Bernini, who opened it to share their family’s 150-year-old coffee tradition and to give back to Costa Rica, where their beans are cultivated. They offer three unique roasts — one for espresso and two for coffee called pepiada (meaning “infatuated”) and Don Flor, named for family patriarch Florentino Castro Soto — and plan to donate 1 percent of proceeds from their 100 percent Arabica coffee ($20–$21 for a 13 oz. bag) to organizations working to preserve Costa Rican rainforest. Originally intended as an online-and-wholesale brand, they chose a storefront to educate coffee drinkers about Costa Rican beans, and they support local bakers by serving pastries from Uptown’s Bisous Bisous Patisserie; hours are weekdays 7:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. and weekends 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m." - Rachel Pinn

In my opinion, this place is overpriced, staff often comes off cold and unwelcoming, and it takes soooo long to get your order compared to other coffee shops. I’d recommend making sure you watch what they charge. Today, again ( after not coming here for 2 + months because of the last bad experience) I had charges that didn’t make sense. I simply asked if I could add the +$1.00 bacon two times. After looking at receipt, they charged me $1.00 and then an additional $2.00?….The server Nancy said “that’s just how it is”…. I was shocked! It’s not about the money, it’s about principle. I live across the street and gave up on this place months ago. Finally decided to try it ONE more time. Never again. I’ll just continue walking 2 blocks to Starbucks where people are always friendly. The staff literally were talking about me in the kitchen while I waited for my food which left me feeling irritated this morning. Paid almost 20$ for a breakfast sandwich and coffee which means service should be great. Box and Brewed across the street is a great example of great customer service. Starbucks on Akard has great customer service… I have never in my life been to a coffee shop where staff make you feel like you’re inconveniencing them.. Again, just look at the food. Is that worth 19.48$

Cute little coffee shop in downtown Dallas that has good tasting coffee. I ordered the vanilla rose oat latte and it was good. Light medium roast with toasty notes but not a whole lot of crema. I would suggest ordering a flat white if you come here and like a nice strong espresso with milk.

First time visiting this coffee shop and I gotta say the ambience is peaceful and welcoming. The bagels and sandwiches are delicious but the croissant that i had left much to be desired. I had a rose infused latte while my date had a blueberry infused one it took a bit to get used to the flavors but not surprising by since they were unique in their own way. I will say that the italiano indulgent had a smooth and nutty taste that was complimented by the sweetness of the amaretto and hazelnut. Overall a nice place to go to on a rainy day or to socialize just as long as you don’t mind paying for parking on the streets of Dallas.

After searching for the perfect coffee spot for my boyfriend’s birthday, I finally came across Berni Bean and I’m so glad I ended up coming here!!! The place is so cute and I can’t get enough of the vibes. The staff are so friendly, sweet, and helpful as well. My boyfriend was very impressed with the coffee and I with my smoothie. Their Croissandwich is AMAZING! If you’re looking for a cute hole in the wall coffee shop in Dallas, come and check out this place!

Cute and cozy coffee shop. Friendly staff. I have been there several times and Raiyn made my coffee each time. Delicious. My favorite is always the Bee Happy Latte.

Parking is difficult to find. Be careful walking here as the homeless people are very pushy. Staff always seems cold. Latte is a hit or miss

Such a cute cafe, but if you’re in a hurry, not ideal. I felt so bad for the girl working, she was the only person doing both the coffee bar AND the food. Insane to expect an employee to keep up with the demand of both. Cute cafe and coffee was yummy, but be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes.

Really nice relaxed coffee shop. I came here on a Sunday morning and there was a decent amount of people but not crowded. The staff was great with their recommendations and seemed really to enjoy working here. I had a great Butterscotch Maple latte with oat milk. It was nice and creamy and also not overly sweet or sugary. Great spot in downtown Dallas!! Would definitely come back.
