The Best Marionberry Pies in Oregon | Eater Portland

"Roadtrippers on the way to and from Astoria stop by this highway-side restaurant for breakfast and lunch, capping off meals with slices of homemade pie. Those in a rush to reach their destination can grab pie by-the-slice or whole off the shelf or from the cooler to-go, or from the 24-hour pie vending outside the restaurant. The restaurant makes regular marionberry pie, a marionberry cream pie with a 1:1 berry/cream ratio, and sugar-free marionberry on occasion." - Janey Wong

Google
Super big & fluffy pancakes! They have marionberry syrup to put on them, as well as jam! Service was great, they kept checking in on us & the food was hot & quick. They have a nice ‘gift shop’ area where you can buy marionberry flavored items, which is cool! Lots of pies to choose from, this is a pie lovers dream! Something unique about them is they have a pie vending machine outside the restaurant!

Google
We had the roast beef sandwich and chicken melt. Both very good. Plus marionberry pie. I liked the buttered toasted sandwich bread. Au jus a as good too. 24-hour pie vending machine for pie emergencies. Will update review after I eat the pie.

Google
The Marionberry was created at Oregon State University by crossing Chehalem and Olallie blackberries. This place makes one of the best Marionberry pies you can get! Just the perfect combination of sweet and tart, even without whip cream! They also have a 24-hour pie vending machine outside if you are running late!

Google
French dip was so good, my selective daughter wanted to steal it! We couldn’t decide which pie to trust we picked 3!!! All were 🔥🔥🔥

Nancy Vargas L.

Google
We loved this store!!! My husband loves a specific berry and he wanted to bring products from that. We could not find anything, we were in our way to Astoria, saw the sign, decided to stop and we finish with PLENTY of things, not just what he wanted. We grabbed a piece of berries pie, DELICIOUS!!!!

Google
Loved having warm pie with vanilla ice cream. The service was top rate plus chatted with the owner. Great food and the best pie I have had. I love pie and the crust was incredible just the right sweetness and great texture not dry. So tasty plus they have a pie vending machine. Friendly great place to stop and I will definitely be going back.

Google
I have had better food at a hospital. I ordered a deli sandwich with clam chowder and the cherry cream pie. Our server was great. Ambiance was not very appealing. Gift shop was nice.

Google
This place is awesome! great brunch spot or if you want to get back home to relax they have takeaway chicken pot pies in the freezer that I definitely recommend. The staff goes the extra mile to create a good experience and although when they get busy the food might take a little extra time its worth it! Also, keep your eye out for the huckleberry gummy bears.

Yelp
The fish n chips were great!! Service was ok, but the one girl working was busy with regulars coming in to buy stuff ambiance was old diner like. I'd go back for the fish!

Yelp
Good roadside food, excellent pies. Waitress Diamond was great. Bathrooms were clean and nice. Great stop to stretch legs and get some good food. Had the chicken basket with fries and marionberry pie.

Yelp
On the road from Longview to Wauna, the eateries are few and far between. This diner style restaurant is truly unique, and while there aren't many other options, this one is actually a great choice. The menu has a variety of entrees, sandwiches, salads, sides, and desserts to choose from. The exterior has great signage, and you can find a 24hr pie vending machine out front. The interior is cozy, with that typical diner feel. Half of the space is a shop where you can take home frozen meals, buy candles, jams, and a variety of other things Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. She walked us through some favorites, and explained a couple other dishes The Rueben looked less than impressive when it arrived, but I must say it was once of the best tasting Rueben's I've ever had. And the pies... are a must try. Some tips: Definitely order a slice of pie. There are roughly 10 flavors to choose from and you can add cream or ice cream (a-la-mode). Try one of the many Marion berry offerings. This is a local berry similar to the blackberry, and you can order pies, lemonades, shakes, and there's even a Marion berry mustard on the table to enjoy. Visit the shop and take home some frozen meals for later like pot pie. Cheers!!

Yelp
Simple food presented in an unpretentious atmosphere. A little something for everyone!

Yelp
My daughter has a tradition to stop here on every trip to the Oregon Coast. I hit this stretch of the drive after they closed and her heart was breaking. They do close early. Thankfully they have a vending machine with fresh pies! Appreciate the amazing creativity as it's always time for pie! Recommend the mixed berry or some of the marionberry options. I haven't been inside but the vending machine is relatively easy to use and pies were around $7/slice.

Yelp
Stopped by the famous berry patch restaurant. Walked into a nice restaurant with a great gift area selling all sorts of Marion Berry products. My husband had a traditional egg breakfast and I had a smaller plate. Eggs were delicious, bacon nice and thick and crispy the ham juicy the gravy delicious, the servers were friendly and the service was quick. we loved the breakfast and recommended

Debra A.

Yelp
We stopped by for some pie and loved the Marionberry crème, lemon crème and especially the coconut crème. It didn't last long enough to take a picture. Delicious!!

Kylie T.

Yelp
The cook Kristal is the best cook in the world. And the best server is Chloe! They always are on top of things and make sure everything is in line.

Yelp
The pie!! OMG. Every so often I have the urge to drive an hour just to get this pie. And you actually can do that at midnight because they have a pie vending machine!! Super yummy homemade pies. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
A must-stop in Westport, The Berry Patch is a regionally-well known place that deserves every accolade for their delicious food and berry jams and pies. WOW totally worth the detour!! Service is fast, friendly, and very practiced - you can tell the folks who work here have been here for a while. :) I had the Turkey sandwich on sourdough with cranberry sauce and cream cheese. It was the perfect summer sandwich: cool and refreshing, light and crunchy from fresh lettuce and tangy with ripe tomatoes. I chose potato salad instead of fries or slaw - it was very good mustard potato salad. We enjoyed the local history and learning about the marionberry - a created blackberry hybrid that tastes delicious and was developed right here in Oregon. 5 Berrylicious stars!!

Yelp
Great food. Service is always fast and staff is super nice. The Pie is always spot on. Had the 1/2 half order of biscuits & gravy, hot coffee, & waffle! Yum

Sebastian H.

Yelp
I got a dime size hamburger on a half dollar size bun. There was only one waitress on and it was quite busy Not a good place to bring children.
google avatar

Karly B.

Yelp
We only stopped for pie, so I can't say much about the rest of the menu, but I can tell you the service was quick! If you like Coconut Cream, you *need* to stop and get a slice! It's done right from top to bottom. Cute little place with whole pies and other goods to purchase.

Lori K.

Yelp
We stopped near closing time in a group of 9. I had never been here before and everything put on our table looked beyond delicious. My food was excellent and fresh and not one word about the place getting ready to close. The waitress was sweet and staff were friendly. I can't wait to try the pie and treats once we get home!! If you don't stop, I would say you're missing out .

Yelp
Love this place wish they were open after 3pm weekdays but ya I get it small town. All items are great I love getting the razor clams it a must try item. The pies wow, I'm not even a pie guy but a have to get the Marion berry cream pie

Kirsten T.

Yelp
The french dip was disappointing. Cheese was not melted. bread not very good. tried their cream pie and can't say it was mom's home made pie. the crust was tasteless and cream could have been made out a package better. the berries were tasty but not worth stopping for. Service was friendly

Yelp
We have driven by this restaurant for many years on our way to Astoria. Finally, we had lunch there today. We were very pleased with this restaurant. The atmosphere is very pleasant. It is very very clean. The food was very good. The coleslaw and potato salad was outstanding. The service was perfect. We will definitely come back.

Yelp
Stopped for a quick breakfast on the way to Astoria. I had a pancake/egg/sausage combo. I also added their famous marionberry syrup to the plate. Yum! Just the right size and price! My wife had 2 eggs scrambled and hashbrowns. Again, quick and just right. Extensive pie and pastry shop. Bought some marionberry syrup for home!

Yelp
This place is Berry Berry good. Yes, I had to go there. Berry Patch is a short ferry ride from Cathlamet or sort of the middle of tree farming country along the Columbia River about an hour NW of Portland. If you like American Diner food this is the place. I had an amazing homemade meatloaf with equally amazing Oyster Chowder side. Everything was spot on from the meatloaf texture to the quantity of Oysters in the soup. They even served it warm-hot! Ironically, I didn't get the pie although they look lovely and they have an amazing variety of pies with less popular berries (like Huckleberry). Specific pies vary daily. So if you're driving from Astoria to Portland stop by. Or if you're doing a getaway in Cathlamet take the ferry across for lunch (dinner is only 3 nights/week and they close at 6 or 7 those nights).

Yelp
What a special place! E has a rather large group stop here as a part of a Road Scholar trip. We didn't have time for a meal but we did have time for pie. Marionberry was my choice. They have so many choices it's hard to pick. Really great! They have a very cute gift shop as well and even berry chocolate bars. They offer a 24 hour vending machine with pie in it that you can call and ask them to add your favorite if you won't get there during their open hours! What a fun and delicious place! Keep up the great work ladies!

Yelp
Stopped in last Thursday for lunch and was amazed. Our waitress sat us up the small stairs, very kind and attentive. Lunch was excellent. Do not pass this place.

Yelp
Great food, service and awesome pies, especially the blueberry and pecan pies. Thank you!

Yelp
Picked up a pie to go as we passed through. The pie was filled with tons of berries, the crust was buttery and it was delicious! My friends and all enjoyed our slice of pie and would return.

Yelp
With such a large selection of berries in Oregon one must try anything berry which for me is a handmade pies. Besides a full restaurant they have a gift shop filled with jams, jellies and syrups and delicious pies hot and ready to take home and enjoy. They had a wide selection of quality and tasty berry products to pick up for quick gifts to send out or share parts of the berry gold only Oregon can offer. Sooo you would think I ate this lovely pie after dinner, well as I picked it up early in the morning this was my breakfast while I was looking out on the patio falling in love with fall and all of mother natures beauty. The pie had a golden buttery crust and mounds of berries pouring out. The staff were so friendly and the gift store was stocked and full of fun treats all a hit in my Christmas gift boxes.

Yelp
I love the added pie vending machine for after hours but I got charged an extra 19.90 because the pie door wouldn't open. Each time I tried to pull the door open it would add a charge to my card. I'm hoping to get a refund because they should be able to see it on the inventory. I'm giving 1 star until it's resolved.

Nana C.

Yelp
3rd time stopping and they are ALWAYS CLOSED. Now the sign says due to short staff ... which translated means NO ONE WANTS TO WORK for your crappy wages. They locked the doors before the posted close time so they didn't have to wait on one more customer... all we wanted was PIE, to go ... NEVER AGAIN ... OH the vending machine doesn't work half the time either ...

Yelp
So glad I decided to stop here on my way home or I would have never experienced one of the best key lime pies of my life. Not artificial colouring or dyes, just that creamy smooth custard-like filling with flecks of lime zest. The crust is soaked in some kind of honey-buttery syrup that was just so good. Marionberry and strawberry rhubarb were also delicious. I personally was not the biggest fan of the marionberry cream pie. The cream portion was cream cheese based, like a quick cheesecake, and I've never been super into those. It was one of my friend's favourites though. I also got a cup of clam chowder that was surprisingly good. It was a bit thick, but it had the best clam chowder flavour I've had in a long time. I like it better than Mo's. I think stopping here on our way home from the coast is our new tradition.

Yelp
We were in town and drove by the sign that said "berry patch, 5000 pies made!" We couldn't resist and stopped by to grab some pies for the road. We got the marionberry, Oregon, and pecan pies. All three were delicious, and the best part was that they weren't too sweet. These were the best pecan and berry pies we ever had. Bottom line: Listen to your gut and follow the sign. You won't regret it. :)

Yelp
My family visited this restaurant on the way to seaside. It's ambiance is that of a rustic diner with a little built in shop. The service was very pleasant and swift as they were not very busy. The food we ordered were waffles, chicken fried steak, and eggs. The chicken fried steak was amazing, the waffles were pretty good as well as the scrambled eggs. Overall the visit was great and the shop was very fun!

Yelp
Cute inside! The women work hard in there. We were driving by with our large RV trailer and there was room to park on the little street, there were actually two other RVs and we parked with them. My husband and son had the burger, said you could tell the meat was frozen. My daughter and I had the BLT and it was really good. The iced tea was good too! We also had two types of Marion berry pie, coconut cream pie and a berry ice cream and those were delicious. If we're driving through again we will for sure stop. 3.5

Yelp
The best Marionberry cream pie I've ever had. The crust is just like my grandma made

Yelp
After only getting pies en route to the Oregon Coast for the past 5 years, we finally decided to eat lunch today at the Berry Patch. I ordered the Reuben which was described on the menu as "our home-cooked corn beef" and my husband got the Berry Patch Burger. The burger was a hit but the Reuben not so much. The minute it was placed in front of me, I noticed the corn beef looked a lot like sliced ham. I immediately called our waitress who then took it back to the chef and told him "this does not look like a Reuben". He replied, "yes, it's corn beef". She brought it back to me and I took a bite. Nope....looked like ham and tasted like ham. I finished half and decided to dissect and take a closer look at the second half. Both of us agreed that it was the thinnest, smoothest, lightest corn beef we've ever seen. I alerted the waitress again. She went back to the kitchen and brought back a small Seran wrapped roll of again...what looked like sliced ham. She then asked me if it was good and I replied yes (if you like sliced ham with sauerkraut, thousand island dressing on rye bread). She was a hard worker so I decided to not push the issue. I've had plenty of corn beef Reubens in the past and no way was what I ate even came close to those. And to claim that it was home-cooked when the texture looked and tasted very processed?! My picture said it all. Another Yelper posted a picture a year ago of her Reuben and it looked like it had corn beef (ie. nothing like mine). If you are out of the corn beef, then just admit it. I don't appreciate the deception. As I was eating questioning every bite, I can't helped but looked over at the kitchen window and caught a glimpse of the chef....with no mask. Negative #2. Moral of the story: Do not order the fake Reuben. We will stick with take out pies from now on. UPDATE: After my review, the manager at Berry Patch confirmed that it was a mistake and offered to make it right. It's a plus in my book when a business appreciates customer feedback and uses it to better train their staff. This effort warranted an upgrade on my star rating. Like I stated in my previous review, they have great pies and seem to be a local favorite. I recommend supporting this family-owned restaurant.

Yelp
Fish and Chips and freshly baked pie what a winner. Adorable old school restaurant with all the old school charm. We got here at almost closing time but they were very sweet and let us order. Fish and Chips were served hot and fresh, the batter was delicious. The Marionberry pie was amazing tasted like it just came out of your grandmas kitchen. I only wish I had thought about getting one to go. We will be back but next time we will get here before closing (3:00). Everyone was so sweet and the food was great.

Lorrie R.

Yelp
A "must stop" when traveling Highway 30! Have a meal and buy a pie. Everything they do is excellent.
google avatar

Felicia B.

Yelp
Just moved to the area, and thought we'd try out breakfast here. Oof. The hashbrowns were basically mashed potatoes, with no seasoning. Paid $4.50 for a side of bacon, to discover that was only 3 pieces. The toast was basically not toasted (we did drive from Clatskanie, but it shouldn't be floppy after 8 minutes in the car). The server didn't seem to want to be there - when I asked for a bag for the 3 boxes of food she essentially started tossing the boxes around in frustration.
google avatar

JoLee S.

Yelp
We stopped in for a late lunch. I had the best cheese burger I've had in years, seriously. Husband had the turkey club, also very good. My burger was 6" in diameter, Sesame seed bun, the meat was perfectly done, juicy, just a tiny bit crispy on the edges. Cheddar cheese melted to perfection, lettuce, huge slice of tomato, with just a little mayo & pickle relish. Side was potato salad rather than french fries, and I confirmed that they make their own salad; it was wonderful. Potatoes done just right and seasoned correctly. We will be stopping there again, any time we're on the way to Astoria. Just wish we'd had room for some of their wonderful looking/sounding pie. Several groups came in just to buy pie and jams.

Yelp
Excellent rainy day stop for pie and coffee. Daughter and I had to start out with a Sausage Lentil cup of soup which was outstanding and warmed us from the inside to the outside! Then came the pie! Hubby got the straight Marionberry and daughter and I got Tripleberry (a combination of Marionberry, Blueberry and Blackberry) and an accompanying cup of vanilla ice cream for all to split sent us all into warm pie heaven! The melting ice cream topping off our pie like the Berry Patch Restaurant topped off our day!
google avatar

Scott H.

Yelp
Oh yes. The marionberry cream pie. Normally I feel weird rating a place based on just one thing. But that Marionberry cream pie is the thing of legend. Imagine if you will a mountain of marionberry pie filling. Not too sweet. On top of some yummy cream filling. Kind of like from a chocolate cream pie. Paired with a flaky tasty crust. It will be difficult to justify such a trip in the future. But I may do it for the pie.

Yelp
The pie is amazing!!! It reminds me of a pie version of the cheesecake factory. There is also a super cute gift shop. There hours are different and they closed at 3 due to the pandemic so we ordered it to go but sat outside to eat it.

Yelp
We stopped here for a bite to eat on a weekend road trip. It looked like a good spot from the outside. Very mom and pop. On the inside it was a little bit dark. There was a wonderful place in the back where you could see a woman actually making jam! There was a lot of jams and syrups for sale. Also some wood carvings from a local artist. We were seated at a booth near the front counter. It took a little while for a server to come over. We ordered our food. The meals arrived in good time. My husband had the chicken fried steak. He said that it was pretty tasteless. The meet was gray and the gravy not very tasty. His over easy eggs were delicious. Hashbrowns very generic. I chose the Reuben sandwich and opted for a salad instead of fries. The menu stated that they made their own corn beef. Turns out that they baked it there. It was pretty tasty. I thought the sandwich could've used more cheese and more sauerkraut. Would I return here for the sandwich? No. Worth a stop though if you want to check out their pies. Pies were great! Blueberry cream pie yummy

Theresa S.

Yelp
We've been stopping here for years for the pie on our way to Astoria from Seattle area. We have named special trips out of the way just for the pie! We've never eaten the restaurant so this review is about the pie. We've had Marionberry, the cherry is a favorite, strawberry rhubarb and apple, all fresh and delicious. We also like to get the fresh jams available in the little store. Definitely recommend a stop for the pie!
google avatar

Yelp
We always drive by on our way up hwy 30 to Astoria. We stopped on a Sunday afternoon with (2) 10 yr olds. It was a "seat yourself" establishment and we were able to find one table for our group. The waiter came and took our order quickly. The milkshakes & sodas were delivered just as quick. Menu options included lunch & dinner. I selected a cheeseburger with homemade potato salad. The burger was okay but I loved the potato salad. Husband selected Chicken & Dumplings. The girls selected Fish & Chips & Cheeseburger with their Vanilla milkshakes. Overall the food was okay and the service enough but now we know and won't be curious anymore.

Yelp
I love their pie, I do. Especially the berry creams and the chocolate peanut butter. The location is easy peasy to get in and out on our way to Seaside, Canon Beach, Rockaway beach etc. it's definitely a good spot for tourists to stop, stretch their legs, and get some great pie BUT AND IT IS A BIG BUT, the low rating is totally a reflection of the server experience- THEY SUCK- they are miserable and unfriendly. I have been several times, I am always excited to stop on our road trip to the beach. It is obviously on the tourist route, and it would make it so much nicer to stop if the servers flipping smiled and were friendly. Ugh- it is a tradition to stop and get pie slices to go, but honestly the wait staff are so dreary and unwelcoming - and plain old RUDE. Why even be in the service industry if you hate it? After today, I am not sure it is even worth the pie. We may need a new tradition.

Yelp
This place is serving great meals, hospitality, delicious pies and great gifts or gifts for your house. Honestly, we just took a drive and followed the signs. We arrived and it was quiet but the hospitality was on point! We asked for a fresh pie and they said "they are all fresh and warm out of oven." They did not lie! Can't wait to dive in!! Please support and get a pie! The berries are fresh :)
google avatar

Phil D.

Yelp
The pie was delicious! We have driven past this restaurant for decades on our way to Cannon Beach and we finally stopped and enjoyed it. Looks like great food too!
google avatar

Sheila D.

Yelp
We loved it here, although I didn't get the pie, I did get their Ruben and it was really good and piled high with fresh pastrami and sauerkraut

Shannon H.

Yelp
Stopped in while traveling south from Seattle to...? I stopped because I had seen a billboard back about 16 miles before the restaurant and it advertised their homemade pies. I arrived and was greeted by the solo waitress who said I could sit anywhere, while she finished up with a take out pick up. They have a gift shop where they sell candles, jams and jellies, clothing and such. I sat in one of the diner style booths and decided on the Reuben sandwich. I later learned that I should have tried the Marionberry ice tea. The Reuben was just ok. A little light on the corned beef and on the sauerkraut. It came with a generous portion of fries which were hot and good. I asked about their pies and decided on the Marionberry pie and the Marionberry cream pie to-go. Soooo good! Glad that I stopped!
google avatar

Cory P.

Yelp
This was a refreshing stop on our way home from the beach. Simple menu but everything was well made and flavorful. Soup and pies are from scratch. Today's soup was chicken enchilada was really good but could benefit from some cheese. The Reuben was nice lean meat and advertised as locally made pastrami. The bread was grilled to perfection with the right amount of crunch. The Berry chicken salad just hit the right spot - refreshing vegetables, freshly grilled tender bites of chicken, and little pockets of salty flavor added by cheese and bacon. The pie... could not get over the flakiness of the crust. The marionberry cream was not listed on the board but oh my! Clearly a favourite with the locals and even though we were passersby we still felt welcome.
