The Best Mediterranean Restaurants In SF

"When you go to this Mediterranean sit-down spot in SoMa, be hungry or bring a hungry friend (or two). It’s almost as if the staff at The Bite has whatever the opposite of a shrink ray is in their kitchen. A falafel wrap comes with four gigantic crispy spheres that struggle to be contained in flatbread. There’s so much shaved meat in the rice bowls that you could take the leftovers and open up your own deli. While the meats here are tender and juicy, they can be a bit bland (which can be easily saved by the three different sauces that come with every bowl). The falafel, on the other hand, is consistently flavorful, crunchy, and, naturally, huge. Whether you’re eating here or taking your meal to go, everything is served in takeout containers, making it easy to bring home the leftovers you’ll inevitably have.  " - ricky rodriguez, patrick wong, julia chen 1

Delicious vegan options (clearly indicated) and friendly service. I ate this gyro so quickly bc of how good it was (see second pic)I’m definitely returning for more😌

I was invited to lunch at The Bite. I chose the Lamb & Beef wrap and I absolutely enjoyed my meal. The wrap was huge but most importantly fresh tasting. The wrap is served with 3 different sauces and all 3 are delicious. The Bite is in a shady neighborhood but the restaurant is clean and safe. I will be returning.

Google
Exceptional lentil soup. Never had a recipe so light and tasty with such an interesting depth of flavor. The Soma salad was also very good. The area it is in is a little seedy but worth the trip. The restaurant itself is tidy and clean, the wait staff friendly and helpful. I will be back again for more soup and sample more food.

Google
Absolutely DELICIOUS! I'm from Newport Beach and am looking for good food in San Fran. I stumbled upon this place and am in heaven! The lamb gyros are insanely amazing. The price is very low for this quality of food! Service is outstanding! Try the baklava!

Google
Some of the best late night food in all of SF! Very tasty and high quality ingredients. Love this place!

Google
Delicious, healthy, and full of flavor! The falafel bowl is my favorite, nutritious with beautiful presentation! Staff is super sweet. One of my top favorite restaurants in San Francisco. Also the limeade is the best. You have to visit The Bite when in SF!

Google
The Bite is one of my go-to places for lunch when I am in the area, for work or for appointments and carry-out as well. The food is always fresh and delicious, like homemade, and the flavors are subtly unique for typical Mediterranean fare. The service is always friendly and efficient. The atmosphere is simple but pleasant, and even though it is in an unpleasant area, it is being cleaned up significantly and this place is worth a stop.

Google
This place is fire. Came for lunch twice and had the salmon rice bowl and side of falafels. Delicious! Nice atmosphere and friendly service. I highly recommend. One star off for the sketchy neighborhood tho.

Yelp
Ordered food from here for the first time today. I was very impressed and positively surprised. The meats were great, the two different gyros were probably my favorite thing. The falafel are excellent! What a great idea to add all the sesame seeds. The salads were decent too.

Yelp
The Bite is great for what its name suggests; as a quick and yummy grab-and-go meal. The service is quick, and the prices reasonable for the city. Here's what we got: Mighty Kale Salad: delicious, with tons of variety in flavor and texture. The beets and tangerines seem like they come from a can, however, so it doesn't seem like the most farm-fresh salad (if that matters to you). Still delectable though! Falafels (4 Pieces): Yum. I liked the sauce. Chicken Gyro Wrap: good. In my opinion, the plentiful flavor, spices, and sauce saves it though, since the chicken itself is a bit dry. I'd still order it again. The Bite Fries (with paprika, garlic, feta cheese): I wish there was more cheese on them, but they were so yummy and spiced regardless, I really couldn't complain. A great accompany to the wrap.

Yelp
We tried The Bite for a work lunch. With a lot of great options for all types of eaters, the menu was super accessible to everyone. I tried the Chicken Gyro Wrap, which had a healthy sized filling of chicken and spring mix. I appreciated how they gave you sides of their orange sauce, yogurt sauce and hot sauce, which were all very good (especially the hot sauce, which had a nice kick). In retrospect, I wish I had also ordered a size of the tzatziki, since the other sauces were so delicious. Highly recommended if you are looking for a tasty Mediterranean meal at a reasonable price.

Yelp
Great spot for a healthy delicious meal. Order in advance as the food is fresh and takes time. Great Kabobs, Hummis and salads. The Bite is a hidden gem, offering fresh, delicious, and healthy Mediterranean cuisine. I highly recommend ordering in advance, as their dishes are made to order and take a little extra time to prepare. I've tried their kabobs, hummus, and salads, all were delicious. If you're looking for a healthy and satisfying meal, The Bite is definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food!! We had to come back from Palo Alto before heading back home to SLC because we couldn't stop thinking about all of the delicious food!! 10000/10000!!! We will definitely be coming back just to eat this amazing food! You can't go wrong with anything on this menu! & amazing customer service!

Yelp
I always saw this place pop up on DoorDash and finally got around to trying it. The food here is amazing. The chicken marinade is on point, and the chunks of chicken are very tender. The rice and salad are also quite good and balance out the bowl. This is definitely one of the best tasting fast casual bowls I've had.

Yelp
Stopped in to share a gyro with my mini. The gyro wrap was tasty. It was good to try this establishment.

Yelp
I love a good mediterranean spot, especially one that has clearly marked gluten-free items. I recently moved within walking distance, so I've been here a few times. Everything is fresh and delicious, and the portions are generous.

Yelp
Delicious food, a little bit of a wait but well worth it. I got the chicken breast rice bowl, so tasty! Just an FYI, it's in a sketchy area (not the owner's fault, and I know structural issues in SF are at play). Just be advised if walking there instead of ordering delivery.

Yelp
Popped in for a quick to-go bite. First time in the area and was looking for some fresh healthy food. Ordered the chicken gyro. Its PACKED with chicken! Great flavor and its complimented well with feta and hummus. They provided a nice selection of sides, rice bowls and salads but kept it light on this occasion. Side sauces were also tasty. There is ample inside seating. Was relatively empty on arrival but seems like a popular local spot.
google avatar

Yelp
I love the chicken breast rice bowl here and also the pita bread. The chicken is tender , cooked to perfection and always taste yum! I keep ordering this over and over again

Yelp
Just had a falafel sandwich. Definite 4.5 stars. Perfectly cooked and sauces added to the taste. Would love to try other options at this restaurant

Yelp
5/5 Got something for nearly everyone, & The Bite prepares it Very well!!! 100% recommend for all vegetarians, vegans, halal foodies, and gluten free eaters & anybody else. Ordered a chicken wrap, beef lamb wrap, and fries here. I'd order the lamb gyro IN A HEARTBEAT! To say I loved it would be an understatement. The meat was so perfectly done, and the sandwich was packed full of goodies - the greens and the meat. The chicken wrap was tenderly seasoned, to enhance the flavor of this lean cut. Super packed with meat, greens, feta. Comes with green yogurt, orange zest, and red hot sauce on the side (both wraps do). Mix the yogurt in and you've got lean tender sandwich bursting with flavor! The side of fries was perfect. Just the right crisp on the outside while fluffy and tender inside. With some of the extra lamb gyro meat, yogurt, veggie greens, and 3 sauces I made my own loaded fries. I think they sell a version here (I ordered to go)... but my goodness the fries with lamb gyro were spectacular! I'm bringing friends here next time, well done guys

Yelp
This is a small Mediterranean restaurant in not the best area of the city, so already minus points for me, but I was in desperate need of feeding my rumbling stomach. Once I decided what I wanted, a plus for this place was that they were very fast. I ordered and it probably took 5min, probably also because they didn't really have any other customers besides two other people. I ordered the Lamb and Beef Gyro Wrap that was like its name, a Lamb and Beef Gyro Wrap with Tsatziki, Hummus, Spring Mix, Feta Cheese, and Orange Sauce. The Lamb and Beef Gyro was okay, but I have definitely had better. The Lamb and Beef was nicely cut into small slivers, but there was a lack of flavor and too much Feta Cheese. The Feta Cheese basically overwhelmed the whole dish since there was a lot of it. The only thing that made it slightly better was the Orange Sauce that I had no idea what it was, but wish there was more flavor besides the Feta Cheese. Overall, fast service, but the Gyro lacks flavor and not in the best neighborhood.

Yelp
To give the overview short and sweet - this place is great. I am always up for Greek food and this was a great spot. The service was fantastic, the food was good and the ambiance was not bad. I would've liked my meat to have a little more flavor but their sauces were awesome. The gentlemen working the register insisted on helping me and he was very nice. The place is not in a great part of town but the inside is nice. Definitely worth giving it a try. Starting with the ambiance - I'll be blunt, it's not very nice outside. Not so much the restaurant but I'd be a little nervous coming back here late at night. The inside is very clean, everything is well kept and looks neat. Reminds me of a pretty standard takeout type of shop. Plenty of tables to sit at and I enjoyed just chillin by the window. Certainly not bad. Onto the service - excellent. You order at the front and the gentlemen at the register was on the phone but quickly hopped off and insisted on helping me order instead of ordering from the kiosk. He explained all their delicious sauces and answered some of my questions. Overall nice kid, food came out fast and he nearly ran it over to me. I forgot to get a receipt and he even went back, printed one and brought it to me. This is literally an order at the front restaurant, this was pretty great service considering. Lastly, the food. It was very good but not the best. I got a Chicken Gyro. The chicken was a little firm but still juicy. The seasoning on the chicken wasn't bad but was fairly plain. Otherwise, that's pretty much the majority of my complaints. The sauces made the gyro delicious and I doused it in all of them. I swallowed the whole thing in about 10 minutes because it was pretty dang good. The pita was fluffy and fresh and the veggies were even still crisp. Only regret was that I didn't get any tzatziki and pita. Definitely give this place a shot, great value for the money and nice little spot.

Yelp
I order delivery from here pretty frequently. The food is always fresh, the portions are big, and very well priced. I've been looking for healthier delivery options and this is one of my top choices! Not to mention, the food is delicious. my go to order is the lamb and beef rice bowl.

Yelp
Fast service. To-go comes in a paper tote bag. Had some homemade lemonade. Cashier said strawberry was the sweetest. I settled for ginger. It's hard to find ginger drinks. The gyro was full of meat, beef and lamb. Very fresh. It came with 3 sauces, spicy orange, very mild orange, and cilantro tasty sauce. So far, not very thirsty, good sign for no MSG. They remodeled, and it seems more welcoming and inviting to sit and eat.. Last time, it was just totally dark.

Yelp
Nice clean establishment for indoor eating but in the sketch party of town. Not busy at dinner time on Saturday so hope they continue to succeed. Not sure there is even weekday businesses around to support them after the SF covid flight.. Falafel wrap Great soft pita, flavorful and most falafel, special orange sauce was tasty but not too creamy. Extra side of hot sauce for those who like an extra kick. Chipotle hummus Again pita sides with chipotle hummus where great. Spicy hummus was really good. Nice topper to the wrap. Decent portion for decent SF price.

Yelp
Happened upon this establishment when looking for eateries near Golden Gate Theatre. More often we're at Orpheum and eat at Sam's American eatery or La Cuisine but Golden Gate a few blocks in the other direction. Thank goodness so many posted reviews !! Driving or walking by. I probably would not have given the bite a second glance. But y'all singing its praises prompted me to bookmark it. Theater on Market, parking Jessie and next block The Bite. Easy peasy. Ok, to review. Yeah, had to step over or pass by a few unhoused folks. But crossed the threshold into a fresh, inviting, pleasing minimalist decor, small eatery. The owners were gracious and helpful. We three chose; falafel wrap, chicken wrap, chicken breast entrée, ginger lemonade, and Turkish coffee. The wraps served with a tahini which we liked, but it wasn't traditional; a bit of chili added. Didn't try the hotter sauce. Both thought the wrap just the right amount of softness and crispy outside. The three Falafel were delicious and wouldn't have minded even more garlic. Crisp outer, soft inner. The Chicken breast entrée was large and reportedly delicious and juicy. Loved the hot kick of fresh ginger in the Ginger Lemonade. It lasted me the whole drive home. Companion enjoyed his trad Turkish coffee, providing caffeine for his long drive home. We'll all return!

Yelp
So scrumptious! Definitely a bang for your buck. Lots of protein and different sauces for you to try it with which I enjoyed. They have seating and the person who took our order was super kind and friendly. I will caution you and say that it is in a bit of a sketchy area though.

Yelp
The grilled Salmon is one my absolute favorite meals. It's cooked to perfection and I'm always excited when it's an option for my company's meal delivery.

Yelp
I ordered the Vegan wrap and could not eat it due to it being so super spicy - I wish the description stated how spicy the tofu/mushroom sauce was. Had to throw it away.

Yelp
Food and service was excellent! We got the beef kebabs and an order of tzatziki. Like the tzatziki so much we ordered two more! Staff was very friendly!

Yelp
Amazing food and service. I also love that it's right across the street from Monarch. If you need a reasonably priced, delicious solid base before dancing all night I highly recommend this spot.

Yelp
Great food and very friendly staff. The food tastes amazing. I really like the rice. You will plenty of sauces. We ordered the falafels and beef-lamb gyro plate. They were delicious. The homemade lemonade was very refreshing. You can really taste the lime. The restaurant was not crowded when we were there. The staff was very accommodating and keep checking if you need anything. It felt very cozy inside. The price was reasonable compared with other restaurants in the area.

Yelp
No doubt that Sixth and Mission has always been a rather checkered intersection, and right next to a long-standing porn store on the corner (where you can "Explore the Passion!") is 996 Mission Street, which has housed at least four different eateries in the past decade. Chinese takeout with Fu War and Spicy Garden. Most recently it was Vegan Filipino fare at Nick's. Now it's serving Mediterranean fast food, and I like the food. It appears the new owners kept the muted decor Nick set up, and it works. The menu focuses on hummus, pita wraps, salads, and rice bowls. I immediately gravitated toward the $12.99 Mighty Kale, a big salad festooned with thick slices of red beets, mandarin orange segments, walnuts, and chopped dried apricots. I had them add quite a dollop of chicken gyros for an additional $4.99 (photo: https://bit.ly/3mRwBJJ). It actually came with four different dressings, though it didn't need any since the ingredients were flavorful on their own. It was delicious, just the right entree salad on a rainy night during a pandemic. I also tried the $7.99 Sautéed Eggplant, baked, mashed and mixed with tomato sauce and butter (photo: https://bit.ly/3zqGS4C). A bit mushy but I liked it, especially to scoop up with the pita wedges (photo: https://bit.ly/3FYO6PH). On a separate night, I tried the $11.99 Vegan Wrap which took full advantage of their fluffy pita bread to encase the hummus, mixed greens, and sautéed mushrooms that acted as the vegan gyros (photo: https://bit.ly/3FUNvi3). Here's hoping The Bite lasts longer than the last four cafes. I could use a dependably healthy option in the neighborhood. FOOD - 4 stars...lots of tasty toppings on their kale salad, and the vegan wrap was almost decadent AMBIANCE - 4 stars...an island of civility at Sixth and Mission SERVICE - 4 stars...quite friendly and courteous snd very quick TOTAL - 4 stars...good and fast Mediterranean food nearby is always a good thing RELATED - Exploring 6th Street? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: https://bit.ly/2NNz312

Yelp
1st Mediterranean food spot I tried. I highly recommend this place for those that are on a health journey & still want to eat tasty foods I got the gyro & lamb wrap. It was delicious. It came with 2 sauces. A green and orange sauce. The green sauce gives a lil minty tingle. Also the falafel is a great side to have with this. They taste amazing with the sauces provided. Topped my whole meal with the baklava dessert.
google avatar

Meaghan G.

Yelp
Delicious and quick food, generous portion size, and reasonable prices! I got the vegan gyro rice bowl and the mint lemonade. The vegan gyro was delicious and all of the flavors in the bowl were amazing. I really liked the mint lemonade - it was the right amount of sweetness and the mint was a great touch. The only downside is the restaurant isn't in the best area, but the food is amazing!
google avatar

Debbie F.

Yelp
Great Mediterranean food very close to the Golden Gate theater. We tried the pita wrap with chicken and also falafel wrap. Fresh food comes with 3 sauces. Place is very clean

Marshmellowcats B.

Yelp
This was so good. The parmesan truffle fries were sooo crispy and the perfect texture as well as the perfect amount of seasoning. The gyro wrap was flavorful and had delicious sauces to choose from and the bread was so nicely soft and delicious. The pita bread and the sides in the beginning were also incredibly flavorful, unique and the perfect set up to this delicious meal. Wonderful, would recommend.

Logan D.

Yelp
Food is absolutely delicious! The sautéed eggplant is to die for, and the chipotle hummus is amazing! Highly recommend to anyone!
google avatar

Kathi M.

Yelp
They CARE about allergies! My kid can't have dairy or wheat/gluten. The website is crystal clear which ones he can eat. The food is AWESOME - cooked perfectly and amazing flavor! If you like heat...try the chipotle hummus SO GOOD!
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
Too Spicy! An Unexpected Twist in Mediterranean Cuisine. When I imagine Mediterranean food, I don't typically associate it with spiciness. However, to my surprise, the Chicken Gyro wrap I ordered turned out to be quite spicy. It seemed like the gyro meat had been coated with a fiery mixture before being tucked into the pita. Despite the unexpected heat, the gyro itself was very good. The restaurant also provided a variety of sauces, which complemented the flavors well. I couldn't help but wonder if the spiciness was an option that was mistakenly applied but I don't recall seeing this listed on their menu. If you enjoy a kick of spice, this gyro would be a great choice (although I must note that I don't recall any tomatoes or onions in the wrap). It's important to mention that this is not your typical Greek chicken gyro. Fries (McDonald like, shoe-string), were excellent.
google avatar

Trevor G.

Yelp
Stellar food that's good for you and doesn't break the bank! The staff are also excellent. Much more service than a similar style of order and sit restaurant. I even forgot to get my receipt (for work per diem) and after calling to see if I could have it sent to me they did so within 3 minutes. Very grateful :)
google avatar

Yelp
Yes this place is expensive but it is AMAZING. Those beef kabobs are delicious, mind you enough for 2 meals..The salad is sooo fresh, I will for sure return very soon.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to taking a nibble out of The Bite and their Mediterranean menu. I was staying at a nearby hotel and figured this would make for a good dinner given how nice the venue is and their marketing online. Sadly, I was a bit disappointed in my overall experience with their food. I ordered the Vegan Pita Wrap, hummus, and a side of fries. I wasn't sure what to expect when it came to the vegan wrap as I assumed it would be some type of vegan gyro meat. It ended up being tofu doused in their sauce and included with all their pita wrap fixings. I thought the overall wrap lacked a lot of flavor and could have been so much better. Their included house orange sauce with the pita was tasteless. You do get a complimentary hummus with a Yelp check-in so I do appreciate that bonus. However, I found even their hummus to be extremely bland as well. Shoe string fries were served as our side so it wasn't anything to write home about. With my food tasting as it did, I honestly didn't even finish my meal. I think there is a lot of promise and potential here. They have friendly staff and a nice venue for dining in. But based on what I had that evening, I'm in no rush to take another bite of their food.
google avatar

Jonathan R.

Yelp
Amazingly delicious food that can almost make a new vegan not miss meat. Try the eggplant appetizer! The bread is moist, fresh, warm and delicious.
google avatar

Leslie K.

Yelp
I passed by the place a many time but couldn't get the chance to try it out soon enough. Shame on me. I became addicted to their food, it just always fresh and fast. They have a clean place and very friendly staff. They treat me like a family member and always smiling, fresh and delicious food. What more can you ask for?
google avatar

Kelly T.

Yelp
I gotta tell you. WHAT A GEM!!! Perfectly grilled chicken. Portions that justify pricing as well! This will be my go to from now on for lunch!!! I even got all my food workers hooked on this place! 10/10
google avatar

Reed S.

Yelp
My friend moved into one of the new apartment buildings across the street from The Melt. It's not in the best neighborhood, but I just mind my own business & don't feel too unsafe. The restaurant itself is pretty smell, just a few tables. Each time I've gone in, I was greeted by someone behind the counter almost immediately. They are super friendly and very patient while you choose your food (by "your" I'm referring to my friend, because he always takes a long time! Hehe) The food comes out quickly, is packed neatly with napkins and a couple sides of sauce (I always get the gyros - which are amazing!! I hope this little store survives because I plan on going back time and time again!
google avatar

Myles F.

Yelp
Amazing service and gave good suggestions. Food was super flavorful and they were on top of customer needs. Bathroom was super clean, which is always a good sign of a place that cares.
google avatar

Candace H.

Yelp
This place is really unassuming but really good! I'm a vegetarian so I always like to try new veggie stuff when I'm on a trip and this place did not disappoint. I ordered sides because I wanted to try many things. The chipotle hummus was so good! Also the falafel was delicious, a little different than usual but in a good way! They were a little lighter and came with a really good sauce. I also got the eggplant which was good but on the spicier side which I didn't expect but liked. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for some good veggie options in soma/tenderloin !

Jessi H.

Yelp
Falafel was great! Good fuel we needed for the day. My friend got the steak kabob and really enjoyed it. Lots of food for a great price.
google avatar

Portia S.

Yelp
High quality super fresh ingredients. Owners and staff are really kind and present, ready to assist. Falafel beautifully seasoned. How do they find tomatoes that taste like summer in winter? Great salads. Their sauces are so good I could just eat them by themselves. Lentil soup is a winner. So glad that they are here.

Alexander B.

Yelp
The food may not always look the best in the takeout boxes but I assure you they are delicious. The really care about flavor here and I love this place.
google avatar

Ed G.

Yelp
Honestly very disappointed in this place! The chicken was so dry and tasted like dog food. Very bland and looked unappetizing. Chicken had weird tuna texture did nit taste like chicken. They did not follow orders notes too.
google avatar

Circadian R.

Yelp
The food was absolutely perfect! Had the felafel rice plate, the bit fries, and the chipotle humus. We rounded out meal out with the traditional Turkish baklava. So good! I'm really surprised at reviews that knock stars off for the location. The business owners can't control this. It feels safe, it's clean, and the food is amazing. What more could I want? The food is fresh and homemade.

Yelp
Such a great find! High quality, delicious and reasonably priced dishes. I got the Organic Beef Kebab Rice Bowl (which is also gluten free - like many other menu items) and it was delicious. Great portion size and they provide you with multiple types of sauces. Quick and efficient service and very casual atmosphere. I was very impressed and highly recommend!
