The Black Boar Inn

The Black Boar was a great place to stay for us! So incredibly charming, a very comfortable room & bed, gorgeous town, and perfect for us to get away for 3 days for our anniversary. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in the Boar since we had perfect weather for exploring the area, but when we were there, it was great! Nothing negative to say, just know that it's a continental breakfast, which didn't matter to us at all. The Inn is right in town, so you're walking distance to shops, a great little bakery, the beach, and restaurants & bars, but it's at the outer part of town, so it's nice and quiet. We highly recommend staying at the Black Boar!

This historic small Inn in Ogunquit is in the center of town. Claudine, the manager is amazing. She engaged us and cooked an incredible dinner for 10 of us and accommodated all of our requests. Our continental breakfast was great. Rooms were comfortable and the cozy living room and dining room were very inviting. Great value! Will definitelybreturn.

We visited the Black Boar Inn for the third time recently, and for the first time since Covid. Between the time we booked and the time of our trip, the Inn changed hands and is now an Airbnb.|The new managers, Wayne and Chad are both very nice guys. The rooms are as clean and comfortable as before.|We had a minor issue with the invoice for the balance of our stay being incorrect, but that's not unexpected when changing hands and switching systems, and as soon as I brought it to their attention they corrected it with no argument.|If you want to be close to shops and restaurants and the beach but not right in the middle of the noise, this location is perfect. It's easy walking distance to everything. We didn't drive the car once during our 4 night stay.|For those who stayed there before Covid, no the breakfast is not what it used to be, but the continental breakfast still has a decent variety, fresh fruit, and high quality products.|We would go back again on our next trip to Ogunquit.

This is my second stay at The Black Boar Inn and I’m already booking a stay for next year. ||||The BBI has the wide plank floors and fireplaces you expect in a centuries-old B&B but has been meticulously maintained. Everything is kept scrupulously clean and the rooms are bright and airy. The gardens are lush and colorful with plenty of places to sit and admire the view with your morning coffee or laze about in the afternoon. ||||Claudine welcomes guests with a warm smile and you feel right at home as soon as you step through the door. There are chairs and towels to borrow if you are headed to the beach, a simple but satisfying continental breakfast in the morning (the pandemic brought an end to the made to order breakfast service), and everything is within walking distance - the beach, the stores along Shore Road, and the Marginal Way. ||||Recently, the Black Boar Bistro has reopened, Thursdays - Sundays with chef Sagar Kavle serving up exquisite meals. I had a salad of mixed greens, sliced pears and plums, toasted walnuts, and feta, served with a red wine vinaigrette. The hangar steak with chorizo butter melts in your mouth and the desserts from Bread and Roses bakery cannot be beat. Another couple raved about the swordfish and were equally pleased with their meal. ||||I highly recommend The Black Boar Inn.

Claudine greeted us upon arrival, recommended wonderful restaurants to have dinner and let us know where our room was for our “honeymoon getaway weekend” the Lesa Lynn room is a gem set apart on the outside of the main house with its own entry. It was so clean, sanitized and lovely! Continental breakfast was good with a nice variety that included danish, scones, apple turnovers, and bagels, cold cereal, yogurt, cereal bars and granola bars, and fresh fruit, hot coffee and juice. Also a variety of hot tea bags are offered at any time. In the evenings, Claudine offered to light the fire in the main living room hearth for us to enjoy. Because we were here off season, we were also offered the choice of an inside the house room to stay in or our original room attached to the house but with the separate entrance. The home has amazing history and is well kept. It sits right on the main strip in downtown Ogunquit a pleasant walk to the beach and nearby restaurants and shops. We will definitely be back. This was our first stay at an air bnb and we loved the personal attention and atmosphere! EXCELLENT and TREASURED experience and stay of two nights. Very worth trying! And we will be returning gladly, hoping to see lovely, sweet, smiling Claudine again!

The BBI was perfect for our annual 3 sisters' get together for so many reasons. Its location, within walking distance of everything we could want (food, drinks, beach, Marginal Way, shows, you name it) couldn't have been better. The historical aspect of the Inn appealed to us (so many cool nooks, crannies, closets, wide planked floors, giant fireplaces, paintings, & more), Claudine, the Inn's manager, is welcoming, fun, funny, engaging, open, & chatty. Our room, the Duchess Ann Suite was a bit challenged by the 3 of us since we needed one bed more, so we were given permission to squeeze in an air bed that made it perfect. Although facing the VERY busy main road leading into & out of town, we did not hear any of the traffic, nor parades of people due to the A/C units. The front gardens are chock-filled with beautiful flowers, & sweet touches such as a bubbling fountain, moss covered structures, & stone pathways leading everywhere. Breakfast was also perfect, especially because we were able to sit outside on the front porch while sipping our coffee, enjoying our yogurt, breads, cereals, juice & more. We could not have asked for a better experience, a better location, a better welcoming & a better 3 sisters' annual get together.

We recently stayed at The Black Boar Inn in Ogunquit, Maine. We were there with another couple and they were able to put us in rooms across from each other which was nice. The rooms were lovely with hardwood floors and period furnishings and they were very spacious. They each had a fireplace (non-working, but pretty to look at) and a couple of chairs to relax in. A nice modern bathroom and a very nice tiled shower. The hostess was so nice and accommodating too! There was a nice continental breakfast with fresh cut fruit and assorted muffins and danish and a delicious homemade banana bread. It had a sitting room and a front porch where we enjoyed some wine and relaxation in the evening. It's a short walk to the shops in Ogunquit or to the beach and the Marginal Way. All in all, it was a great place for a nice little get-away!

My significant other and I spent two nights here in April, 2022. We were very happy with our stay. The Inn was charming and comfortable with lots of character, as was our room. The location is ideal; in the Village within an easy walk of restaurants, shops, the beach and The Marginal Way. The Inn also contains a charming (there's that word again!) comfy living room with a fireplace and a collection of board games. There is also a breakfast room where you can begin your morning with orange juice, coffee, cereal, yogurt, fruit and a selection of muffins and scones. The Innkeeper Claudine was very friendly and helpful and always available to answer a question or provide directions.

Stayed from a Thursday to Sunday at the end of July at the Black Boar. Was warmly greeted by a young man named Tyler when we arrived. There was a little sign just indicating to call if no one was around. He showed up quickly and got us settled in to our room. We chose the Lesa Lynn room which is off the main house around the back and is considered semi-private. It had a cute little porch with some chairs and the room was cozy and welcoming. Small little bathroom was perfect for the two of us and there was a small fridge and AC in the room already which is perfect. It was cooler during our stay so we just kept the ceiling fan going. There is also a larger fridge for guest use in the main house as well as coffee/tea available around the clock. The Inn is about a 5 minute walk from the center of town and despite being on Rt 1 (main road through town) wasn't overly loud or chaotic. They have a little porch on the front where we ate a DELICIOUS breakfast each day. Breakfast options included a starter (we had broiled grapefruit, fresh strawberries with homemade whip cream, and a delicious cherry bread pudding), there was an option of a sweet or savory entree (pancakes and french toast, quiche and scrambles with amazing homefries), a choice of bacon or sausage, and then juice or milk as alternatives to the coffee/tea option. All cooked by Duane and Claudine who are literally the sweetest humans and hosts. They also are interactive during the day and Duane often was found tending the gardens throughout the day. Overall I am thrilled by our stay and will certainly go back next time we head North for a weekend away. I can't speak highly enough about this bed & breakfast and the comfortability, service, and welcoming we received. Obviously we were there during the "in season" and so the rates were high but not outrageous in comparison to other locations and what you got.

Unfortunately, I had a very poor booking experience with this company. I booked for July in April. I was told on the booking site that it was "prepay at hotel". It was a very expensive reservation over the holiday weekend. The same day I received an email from the hotel stating they charged a 50% "deposit" to hold the room - never mentioned beforehand. When I reached out to ask for a refund of my deposit, I was told to cancel the reservation to receive the deposit back. Ok. I was treated very poorly during the cancellation process by whoever was writing the (unsigned) emails: they wrote I "misunderstood", "obviously", and that I was a "Karen"! ("Karen is a pejorative slang term for an obnoxious, angry, entitled, and often racist middle-aged white woman who uses her privilege to get her way or police other people's behaviors.") Whoever is writing the emails for the company needs some customer service training - hopefully it's not the owner(s): John J and Dwain U are the new owners of the Inn as of September 18, 2013

This place is great! The building has many cool features from its past and the staff was wonderful! For the price in this area you can't get a better deal! It's literally footsteps from the beach and the downtown area so you really have all you need there!

Been going to Ogunquit for years and usually stay next door. This has been a crazy summer up there and the Black Boar had availability within our time frame. Nice little place, very charming. Claudine was on site to assist us. She was great. We loved chatting with her. We'll go back.

This Inn was very disappointing. No one greets you and you basically fend for yourself. The internet and cable barely worked. The room was old looking. It needs more care. We will not be returning.

Two weeks ago my mother and I had a trip planned to stay at black boar inn for 3 nights. The day before we were set to arrive, my sister passed away unexpectedly, obviously forcing us to cancel our trip. When I spoke with the office manager I was told we can receive a refund only if they are able to fill the rooms. After explaining what happened to the owner, he told me the best they could do was give me a "half credit". He kept reiterating how reimbursing me would hurt his business.... As a loyal customer of black boar inn (this would have been my third stay with them) I am incredibly disappointed to say the least. Because my sister passed away the last week in August and her services were Labor day weekend, there were many cancelations that my family and friends had to make. They were all able to get reimbursed by the airlines, hotels etc NO QUESTIONS ASKED. I would not recommend black boar inn based on their awful customer service and complete lack of compassion. I will not be returning here in the future.

Love this place! Super friendly, hard working owners. Beautiful grounds! Wonderful rooms. Clean and tastefully decorated. We stayed in the June room, a little room almost like a separate cottage. It was just right. Breakfast was incredible! None of the same ol' continental breakfast. You choose from a small menu the night before and are greeted with a warm, creative and tasty breakfast. It's a quick walk to the beach and the shops. No water view but if that's ok with you then this is the perfect place to stay.

The Black Boar Inn is exactly what you hope for when you book a place in Maine. Gracious innkeepers, elegant but comfortable rooms, and a perfect location a block from the village. Plus the outstanding homemade breakfast, so much better than the usual fare. I absolutely loved this inn and so did my husband. We will definitely be back!

My friend and I made a reservation for a two nights stay though Booking.com. We received a confirmation with a confirmation number from the Black Boar Inn. When we arrived there were no room keys left for us. There was sign with a phone number on it. We called twice before someone answered. The person who answered stated he had no record of our reservation and received no payment. When asked what he would do for us to mitigate the error he said he would give us a list of places to try. I believe the appropriate action on his part should have been to call around and see if he could find us a place. We did not make the error. I am disgusted with this type of behavior for someone in the hospitality industry.

A great stay! This is a charming, little B&B in Ogunquit, perhaps a block from the center of town. Our room was clean, comfortable, and the bathroom stocked with high quality soap and shampoo. We stayed in the June room, which I recommend. John and Dwain cook a number of delicious options for breakfast; coffee is strong and plentiful. Parking for one car comes with the room. Beach towels, chairs, and sunscreen are available for loan, free of charge. Staff was friendly and helpful. We'll be back!

My wife and I wound up staying at Black Boar Inn last week as part of a quilters' retreat run by a local sewing & quilting emporium. The retreat sold out quickly and my wife secured the last room. She asked me if I was interested in tagging along. Since I work remotely anyway, as long as I have good WiFi available I'm in business...and it's hard to pass up a trip to Ogunquit. Let me tell you, I'm glad I came...because if I hadn't, I never would have found this place. From the moment we walked in the front door we both felt right at home. Dwain and John, the owners since last Fall, are two of the kindest, sweetest people I've met in a long time. Despite having no prior experience in inn keeping, they clearly are naturals. The place was immaculate, which was no small task to maintain with the joint overrun by a gaggle of mad quilters. Breakfast each morning was the bomb. There are several good places for breakfast in Ogunquit but I'd take this any day. For special events such as the quilters' retreat the owners often include dinner in the package. Rest assured that no one went away dissatisfied. I have my favorite spots in the area and I happily missed visiting them as I gobbled up anything and everything Dwain put before us. We've already booked our next visit...the development where we live procures group rates at the Ogunquit Playhouse and many residents book an overnight or two-day stay at a B&B or motel. We certainly will recommend this charming spot to our neighbors -- well, some of them at least!

Dwain and John were wonderful hosts for our quick getaway to Ogunquit. They welcomed us like old friends and quickly got us oriented to town. Dwain's dinner recommendations were spot on and the breakfast the following morning was delicious. The inn itself is cozy and beautifully decorated. It's located at one end of the main drag through town making it a short walk to dinner or the beach. Once we checked in, we didn't have to move the car until we left. Our last minute stay was a steal and we were able to book our room online that same day. If your looking for a place to stay in Ogunquit, the Black Boar Inn won't disappoint.

I've been meaning to write this review for a long time. My boyfriend loves going up to Ogunquit with his family, but this is the first time we've gone up for a weekend together and we stayed at the Black Boar Inn. We stayed here the weekend of October 17 (The last weekend of peak season). And I have to say it was amazing! We stayed in the June room, which is a cozy room that has its own entrance and little porch, and cathedral ceilings. It was a little cold at first but pro tip: the thermostat is behind the cute drawers! The room was the perfect size for a couple. We were comfy watching TV when we wanted to rest and loved the looking up through the sky lights. The owners are WONDERFUL! I loved talking to them during breakfast. They are sweet and kind. Don't hesitate to chat. Plus, they know SO much about the area. You can't go wrong in Ogunquit for food or activities, but boy do they know all the right spots to go. Breakfast was so delicious. I remember having a potato casserole and just craving for more! I've never been to a bed and breakfast before, but the experience here sure made me want to try more. The best find, and I'm going to definitely book up a room for next summer in advance. And we've recommended this place to everyone we know.

I took my parents and my sister to Ogunquit for the 4th of July weekend, and we stayed in Duchess Anne Suite at the Black Boar Inn. The room was very nicding in Ogunquit, but John and Dwain are taking great care of ie, and the house was gorgeous. Apparently, the Inn is the oldest built. It was clean, tidy and cozy! We felt like at home with John and Dwain. They were immediately our friends! They made coffee for us when we arrived, and there were some delicious cakes or brownies around all the time. They make wonders in preparing the breakfast. It was delicious; and believe me you would pay at least $30 per person for that kind of a breakfast elsewhere in the town. I have to say I loved spending time in the living room. It is a great place for reading a book! One of the highlights of our stay was the 4th of July fireworks. The front porch, as John and Dwain suggested, is a great place to watch the fireworks. They offered us home-made Sangria and snacks before the fireworks and we got to meet some of the neighbors. They also have beach towels and beach chairs that you can use for free! This was my first time in Ogunquit, but believe me, no other B&B can be better than the Black Boar Inn with John and Dwain. Make sure you ask for recommendations on restaurants to eat and sights to see.

Dwaine and John have got to be the most accommodating and kind hosts we've ever experienced, and we are well-worn travelers! First of all, their website says that the property is not suitable for children under 14, but we could not find another affordable place to stay in Oguinquit during high season. So we called and John kindly let us know that they had no problem with our 1 year old staying, so long as we could keep a watchful eye on her. From the moment we arrived, they welcomed our baby and us with such hospitality. The King James room, the last one available, was our home for a few days and even though it was at the front of the property and I was worried about noise, it was so quiet and comfortable. Breakfast: Dwaine and John (and I have to give credit to Ryan who also helped out) cook up a fabulous gourmet breakfast every morning, with wonderful choices for the whole family. The accommodate for differing diets and source pretty much everything locally. If you take into consideration how food prices go up in high season, the delicious breakfast goes above and beyond in terms of quality and value to neighboring restaurants. Location: Perfectly situated near to the downtown village of Oguinquit, we walked every day to nearby shopping, lunch and dinner. But, most importantly we could walk right to the beach, 5 minutes away. And there is a lovely lagoon suitable for families to enjoy with beautiful water. Our daughter enjoyed every minute of her beach time and we were so grateful to not have to deal with parking. Plus, Dwaine and John make beach towels, sunblock and beach chairs available to guests... all you really need is your picnic lunch and a suit. The Room and Property: The place is so well kept, clean and tidy. The room was spacious and the shared spaces (lounge, patio, dining area) were cozy. How many places can one say they've slept in from the 17th century? The bed was comfortable and we appreciated that they tidied up the room daily. Dwaine and John tell you everything you need to know from local dining options, best beaches, how to get around, other attractions. And they always made themselves available. We would definitely come back and stay here. Curious what winter in Oguinquit is like. Also interested in the fact that the Black Boar Inn hosts retreat groups, providing full meals as needed. For my business, this is good news. Wonderful hosts, wonderful place, looking forward to next time.

We came here for a weekend away from our crazy lives. We wanted peace, calm, and relaxation. That is EXACTLY what we got! The inn is beautiful and gives off a great vibe. The breakfasts were amazing every single morning! We came in the off months were a lot of the village is not open but we still had a great time! You can walk to the restaraunts and bars that are open and they are all delicious. We also stopped in Abacus which has amazing art pieces and H&M Crumpets which has beautiful high end body care. We got snow one day but they had built a fire in the common area and we played board games all night. We can't say enough good things about this place and we can't wait to return! Stay here to have an amazing time!

The black boar inn was an amazing find! It was very charming and cute, but also clean and professionally run. They were exceptionally on top of the ball and detail-oriented, they've taken no shortcuts with this place! The room was perfectly decorated and clean. The owners were really friendly and we enjoyed chatting with them. They had a delicious breakfast too. It was my first time vacationing in ME and Olgunquit was a great first choice. Looking forward to going back to ME, especially to get to stay here again.

Was supposed to go here with my girlfriend but due to an unexpected event in her family we had to cancel. The Black Boar Inn was not accommodating and I don't support places that value business over being humanitarian.

This lovely B&B was warm and cozy in February. I very much appreciated that the fireplaces were always nicely going and coffee always available. The owner and staff were friendly and the Inn was clean and very comfortable and the breakfasts were delicious. We will definitely return.

We had a great experience at this very cute bed and breakfast. It was very close to the shops and restaurants in downtown, but still quiet at night. The room was very comfortable and we had a great breakfast of blueberry pancakes, bacon, and fruit. Would absolutely stay again and highly recommend!

My girlfriend and I normally go to a B&B for the weekend of my birthday each year and this year we stayed at Black Boar Inn -- it was great! The price was very reasonable, location is great -- easy to get to food, drink, and the beach. The house is beautifully decorated and in great shape. But the real treasures are the hosts. Dwain and John are super nice and friendly -- they even got us birthday cupcakes from the local bakery an left them in our room with a card. Oh, and the morning breakfast was delicious. We highly recommend BBI for your vacation to Ogunquit!

I love going to Ogunquit,ME......And I always love staying at the Black Boar Inn.And this previous visit did not disappoint.John and Dwain(the owners)truly know how to run a B&B.A very hospitable,relaxing,and inviting atmosphere they supply at the Black Boar Inn.Really is just a really neat place to stay.I travel for a living and if all the places I stay,this is my favorite.I highly recommend staying at the Black Boar Inn when staying in Ogunquit or just to check it out and to get away from everyday life.

I had a great stay at the Black Boar Inn last weekend! The new owners - Dwain and John - have done a wonderful job updating the space, while maintaining the historical feel of the oldest building in Ogunquit! My friend and I were welcomed into a very comfortable room and given a tour of the entire Inn. John and Dwain have a great understanding of the sea-side community and suggested lots of wonderful places to eat and explore. The Inn is located just a short walk into town and close to the water. Everything was clean and well kept. Our breakfast the following morning - a quiche - was delicious! My friend and I felt very comfortable. I appreciate the relaxed, yet attentive, atmosphere John and Dwain provide. I've already recommended the Inn to friends and family and would absolutely recommend it to anyone wishing to explore this lovely Maine community.

Amazing Amazing Amazing. What more can I say? Each morning our breakfast was delicious. Our room was perfect; the inn was small, personable, and homey. The candy store down the street was delightful. The walk to the beach was quick and easy. Beautiful town, amazing restaurants. Can't wait to come back!!!

We had our wedding at the BB. The place is really nice with a greate vintage touch to it and cozy especialy with all the fire places. Very romantic! We had the entire main building for the whole day. All of our friends loved being here and we had the best time! Dwain and James were cool, hospitable and easygoing. Their food was fantastic! They did whatever we wished for. Thank you so much! We will come back and stay here and definitely recommend it to our friends.

This was a perfect place! We ended up there in the middle of a blizzard, but the warm hospitality of Dwain, John and James made us oblivious to the cold and inconvenience. The breakfasts were repeatedly excellent, the hosts were consitently friendly and uber-helpful without being invasive. Staying here was like traveling back to the 1800's with the marvelous exception of the large & modern bathroom. This is an ideal place to stay in Ogunquit, or anywhere, actually!

First stay at a B&B, it was amazing. Dwain and James were very friendly and accommodating hosts. Very helpful with tips, restaurant menus, loaner umbrellas and beach towels! The place is well cared for and obviously loved! So cute! Definitely recommend this special place!

My husband and I and another couple stayed here recently for a long weekend and this place went way beyond our expectations. The innkeeper, Rod was a warm and friendly host who did everything he could to make our stay memorable and enjoyable. The rooms are lovely, beds super comfortable and it's spotless. The proximity to the beach is great and they provide (free of charge!), beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards and a fridge stocked with ice water, soda a juices to take along. They served wine and tasty, light appetizers on the front porch Saturday evening and we were served delicious full breakfasts each morning also on the front porch (there is a cute little dining room when weather isn't cooperating) cooked by the innkeeper (all included in the price). Most times when you visit a place with as much to do and see as Ogunquit, the lodging is not the focus, but this place really enhanced the entire trip for all 4 of us.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and the place has so much history and friendly vibes about it. The owners are charming and delightful who really made us feel like we were their #1 guests. Breakfast was delicious and the location was perfect. We WILL be back. The owners even left us chocolates with a personal note outside our door to celebrate our honeymoon. What sweeties!
