The Black Cow is hands down one of the best places to eat in Columbus! The food is excellent, and the service is always friendly and attentive. It’s definitely a popular spot—by early evening the place is already buzzing with energy. My go-to is the Chicken and Waffles—crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced every time. My wife had the steak salad, which was good, though it came with a little too much blue cheese for her taste. One thing we couldn’t help but notice was how many tables around us ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes—they’re clearly a favorite here and looked fantastic. The atmosphere is great—small, cozy, and full of character. If you’re in Columbus, The Black Cow is a must-visit for both the food and the vibe.

We finally made it to The Black Cow after hearing so many people rave about the fried green tomato tower—and honestly, it lived up to the hype. The goat cheese was super creamy and stretchy, and just brought everything together. We were so ready to dig in, we didn’t even snap a pic of the cheese pull—totally worth it though. I got the salmon steak for my main. It was fine—nothing special, just your typical salmon with some lemon. The sauce it came with did help give it a little extra flavor. My friend had the meatloaf sliders and said they were pretty good—juicy and filling. Another friend ordered the shrimp po’ boy and she really liked it. The shrimp were crispy without being greasy, and the sandwich came together nicely. By the end, we were full and had to take some leftovers home. The place was nice but a little crowded and loud, but the staff were super friendly and helpful with recommendations. They’ve also got some fun drinks on the menu, so we will definitely come back and try out the drinks.

Stopped here for lunch when visiting during a conference. The restaurant is a cute southern theme place located downtown. We were seated right away and our waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was delivered promptly and was delicious. My husband had the cheeseburger and I had the Georgia hot and sticky grilled chicken sandwich--which ranks as probably my favorite chicken sandwich of ALL TIME!

Google
Absolutely amazing burgers! Juicy! Tasty! Cooked perfectly! Will definitely be coming back when in town. Clayton was an awesome server! Great personality and very friendly. Thank You!

Google
Food and service was great. Steak was very tender as was the grilled chicken with lots of flavor. Breaded green beans were awesome. Four stars due to close proximity of others guests’ seating.

Terri H.

Google
Loved the vibe. Our waitress was lovely and bubbly! Food was excellent and the portions are big! Excellent value for your money.

Google
The food was great, as was the service. All very filling! I would strongly recommend making reservations especially on the weekends. I'd recommend the wings for a starter, the fried green tomatoes and any of their burgers.

Google
Definitely a spot you need to try. Meatloaf and everything was delicious, but for me, the star of the show was the fried green tomato and goat cheese tower!

Yelp
Thank you yelp for recommending The Black Cow. We got in late last night for my son's "Turning Green" ceremony and this popped up. We got there late and it was super busy. They did take our phone number down so we could sit in the car which was nice cause it was cold. We all three tried different things. One ordered the crab cakes with fries and mac-n-cheese, one ordered artichoke chicken with mac and I ordered the Steakhouse Burger with pineapple casserole. Let me start off by saying that I'm picky about my pineapple casserole. My Mom made that every holiday and it is the best accompaniment to ham or turkey, but, always great as a dessert. This pineapple casserole had cheese in it which I'm not a fan of. I still ate it though, I just prefer no cheese. The burger was really good. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. Our server was great. He was rocking it all evening cause they were packed. Excellent service.

Yelp
I had the shrimp and grit cake and it was OUT OF BOUNDS delicious. The pineapple casserole was delicious. The lobster tots were very good as was the pimento burger. The service was excellent. I loved the ambiance and decor. Rustic with style. The place is small but OMG is it delicious! We are planning to come back tomorrow for lunch to try something else The prices are very reasonable

Yelp
Warm November evening so I ate outside. Service was quick and attentive. Good draft beer selection. The Steakhouse burger was delicious. I asked for medium and that's what I got. The restaurant is celebrating 15 years in business. You don't exist for that long unless you're doing something well. The Black Cow is a great part of the downtown Columbus scene.

Yelp
Amazing delicious food, Fantastic service from Pria at the bar. The place was like a barn style inside large and open with about 6 seats at the bar..

Yelp
I stopped by to kill some time after running into the owner a week ago while out dining. She was such a sweetie so I just had to. What I didn't know is that they promote wine down Wednesdays. I tried the fried bacon and couldn't finish it. I packaged it up to take home and realized today that it can't be microwaved for too long (*sniffs lingering scent of burned deliciousness). I plan to return and will try an entree. There are several menu items I look forward to trying in the near future (on Wednesdays).

Yelp
We went back two more times while visiting again. It was again, busy, but we made the wait. For starters we got the fried bacon and fried okra. The first time I got their porkchops (fried) and they were excellent. Moist, fully cooked, seasoned well but smothered in the gravy. It was good, but in excessive gravy. If I do it again I would ask for it on the side. Delicious, just too much for me. Fried bacon was cool, but I wouldn't do it again. It became a kind of slimy mess inside with a nice crust outside. Cool to try, but not ordering it next time. The sauce was not good. Even from the folks that liked honey and tobasco (tobasco is trash hot sauce, just fyi) they didn't like the combo. The okra was good, not slimy on the inside. The 2nd time we went I got the Chicken and Grits. Oh. My. Gosh. The cajun sauce stole the show. Over anything I had there, it was simply plate-licking delicious. The chicken was crispy even under the sauce and the grits were in a fried patty and were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. A bit of the chicken with the smooth grits and that sauce...oh man. The grits haters at the table even said it was amazing. This feels like a menu item that would get skipped by a lot of folks. Don't skip it, try it. Great place.

Yelp
From the starters like lobster tots to fried breaded bacon to the delicious entrees the food is super delicious and I plan to go back again very soon. I highly recommend this place for the food, the ambience the waiters like our waitress Natasha she was super nice and very helpful with our food choice.

Yelp
The Black Cow is a popular answer when you ask for a suggestion for a great meal that does not disappoint in Columbus. Always busy so plan on a wait if you go during busy meal time hours. The menu offers a nice selection of entrees, sides, and appetizers everyone rave about. We have gone to The Black Cow many times over the years since it has opened and have never been disappointed. We love to try different menu options each time. It's a great spot to bring an out of town guest or for a date night. A great gem in Columbus!

Yelp
I just recently did a pick up order at 'The Black Cow' and was sadly underwhelmed. I ordered 3 meals. The classic Cheeseburger, the Chicken and waffles with Mac and Cheese, and the fried pork chops with collard greens and Mac and cheese. Before discussing the food I want to address the pick up process. I went to pick up the food and was disregarded by staff. I approached the bar and attempted to pay and was brushed off and had to wait in favor of other customers. This was the erasure of their tip in real time. No eye contact, and placing payment on counter rather than hand. Very unfortunate. The food itself (please note it was a to-go order). The burger was good. Standard I ordered medium and it had a red center more of a rare but the flavor was there. Fries were nothing to rave over definitely from frozen. (Chicken and Waffles) The Chicken dry and could not spot a dash of seasoning. The bacon jam advertised was missing from the order completely, which possibly could have helped with flavor. Waffle was pretty standard no sweetness and no crisp but a good waffle. The Mac and cheese was the best item really cheesy and good texture on the noodles. Could use some salt and pepper but that's preference based. The fried pork chops were disappointing. The fried skin slid off and was saturated in the grease from onions and mushrooms. It was seasoned but the amount of grease left me feeling dipped in an oil drum. I think the idea of onions and mushrooms with no gravy as weird but could be executed way better. The greens were good, my first time having them with bacon bits but pork is pork. Mac again was the star. Portions are good also, great shell just missing some love and soul. Clean, industrial vibe.

Yelp
If I could give 6 stars I would. Laurie (spelling?) was an incredible server. Great recommendations, and very fun! We ordered the Goat Cheese & Fried Green Tomato, and mozzarella sticks as appetizers. The tower? Out of this world. Fried goat cheese? Oh yeah. Entrees were the 10oz ribeye (loaded mash & green beans), the salmon steak (green beans & Mac n cheese), and the fried grouper sandwich. The steak was perfect. Cooked exactly as requested. Well seasoned. Delicious. The salmon steak was a tiny bit smaller than expected, but that lemon butter sauce made up for it. The fried grouper sandwich was delicious!

Yelp
The staff is super nice and friendly. Guys, you gotta try the meatloaf sliders and pimento cheeseburger! But especially the meatloaf. The BEST meatloaf I've EVER tasted! The look of the place is great. It looks modern and retro at the same time. The steak tacos are good too!
google avatar

Athena R.

Yelp
I don't give 5 stars just because. It's not the alcohol talking: everything was amazing! Party of 13 - everyone is thrilled with their meals! I had fish & chips - ranch dressing w/ fries is delicious; tartar sauce is delicious. I can't ask for anything more!!! Locals love this place.

Yelp
Wonderful service! Delicious Southern American food! Fun, comfortable and casual atmosphere. Great for families, casual dates and after work dinners.

Yelp
Beautiful small restaurant in the downtown Columbus area. My husband and I have visited for date night and for take out and been satisfied with both. We really like this spot for burgers. The steak salad is huge, great deal for the price. Wings are eh. Drink menu is pretty cool, lot of "cow themed" cocktails ~$10/ea. Half price wine on Wednesdays. Most times we have visited there have been some 8+ tops that crowd the place and make service a little slower, but not enough to really complain.

Yelp
Visiting Columbus. Tried this place after reading positive reviews. Nice atmosphere, food was good, but overall the staff was kind of rude and not attentive. After we arrived we were taken to a high top table. I am in my late 60s, my husband in his mid 70s. We asked if we could possibly sit at a low top to be more comfortable. The hostess seemed completely put out, huffed and puffed her way back to the restaurant entrance where she asked someone else if it was possible for us to change tables. Apparently he said yes and she showed us to another table, threw the menus on the table and walked away. The restaurant was not crowded and there was no one else waiting. My salmon BLT was delicious. My husband's ribeye was dry but the pineapple casserole and mashed potatoes were very good. Our server was nice but didn't check on us after bringing our food.

Kevin C.

Yelp
Me and my buddy tried to give thos place a try but when seated they put us up against a door so we had to sit next to each other. The place was empty so we moved one table over and the hostess made a huge deal out of it. She told us that she would have shut the door, shook her head and gave my buddy a nasty look. She then proceeded to walk back to the kitchen and point at us while she threw her fit. We decided that was enough and walked out. Maybe next time.

Yelp
Everything was superb, food, service, friendliness. Highly recommended. Quaint ambiance.

Yelp
The best in Columbus! Great service by Angelique, a great poor of wine, and the best fresh food down here. I had the hamburger steak with gravy and onions, pineapple casserole, and mashed potatoes. It doesn't get any better so stop looking go to the black cow and eat . Just wow thank you Angelique.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised at this bar in downtown - what a cool find! The yelp reviews were right on point... I enjoyed the ambiance, the service and the food! I had the fried green tomato and goat cheese tower appetizer which was so good. Wasn't expecting the goat cheese to be fried but it was so good! For entree I had the fried grouper sandwich. Large portion size, soft bun, light and delicious fish... yum... just perfect. Would recommend both! If you're looking for a place to go with good food... this is it!

Yelp
Great food and service was excellent as well! We met up there with family and had a great time. I'd definitely go back.
google avatar

Melissa I.

Yelp
We stopped here for a work lunch and the food was great! It was a little dark for a mid-day meal, but I imagine that during happy hour or the weekends, it's the perfect setting for some good food and drinks.

Yelp
Wow. Just wow. After seeing reviews I thought this would be a solid option. Boy was I wrong. Came here with wife and in-laws. We were seated right away and the host was friendly. The waiter was fine but not talkative and just seemed over his shift. Now on to the really disappointing aspect. The food I ordered the meatloaf with a side of mashed potatoes and fries. The menu said it was the best in the south. If that is true then man the south is really missing out in good meatloaf. It was about as good as a frozen banquet meal. I was hoping the mashed potatoes would at least be a saving grace. Nope just as bad. The fries were ok. The wife ordered the crab cakes. She loves crab cakes so was happy they were on the menu. They were so bad she only had two bites and couldn't eat anymore. She said the worst she's had. The in-laws both got the chicken salad. They both said it was ok. That is why 2 stars and not 1. Sadly do not recommend. Go somewhere else this place not worth it.

Yelp
Wow! A friend recommended this place when they visited Georgia. Every item we ordered was amazing. They are the King of Sauces! Gosh and Chips, chicken tenders, meatloaf sliders, lobster tater tots! 10/10!

Yelp
Very happy with the taste and service: Meatloaf delicious Cole slaw yummy Fries done right

Yelp
Salmon and mashed potatoes and green beans! All is soaked in butter but everything is delicious

Yelp
During my visit in Dec 2021-Jan 2022 to my sister who resides in Georgia. She brought me to this restaurant for some much needed sister bonding. The restaurant ambience and decor reminded me of a roadhouse restaurant feel. It is pretty lively. They offer a southern comfort food plus cocktails. They're know for their green fried tomatoes with goat cheese. We definitely ordered this and it was delicious! My sister and I ordered the shrimp and grits, my sister loved it. It was ok for me. I forget the reason I didn't like it. I only recall that it was different than most shrimp and grits. The place is clean. Our server was excellent. We bumped into a friend who was dining there as well. We had a fun time. We would return again.
google avatar

Yelp
Had dinner here while in town. Like the atmosphere, as there is a small bar on the right and then tables lining the left and in the back. Good food, friendly staff, and an enjoyable evening. We had a salmon blt, pimento bacon burger, chicken tenders, and chicken and waffles. Everyone enjoyed their meal, with the tenders maybe being a little over done. Will come back when I am in town again.

Yelp
Love the Black Cow!! Food is always good and they have a great variety great menu items. Best burgers in town
google avatar

Sharon E.

Yelp
Loved the food at this place. The portions were pretty good, too. The place is pretty lively as it's in downtown. The chicken and waffles, which is a southern staple, was pretty good. The shrimp pasta was also good, considering I normally don't eat pasta, but this I would have gobbled..lol.. It had a nice flavor to it..

Yelp
6/3/2024. First visit Smallish interior with rustic feel, some outdoor seating. Busy but not too loud and not too long of a wait. Fast, friendly and efficient service. Didn't mind questions and if they didn't know, they asked the chef. Started with the Fried Green Tomato and Goat Cheese Tower, intuition said order even tho hubby doesn't like goat cheese. I was correct, it was super delicious and the cheese was mild. It did not overpower the tomatoes. I had a massive Shrimp PoBoy (1/2 went home) that was delicious, reminded me of NewOrleans. Hubby said his Bacon Cheeseburger was perfectly cooked and juicy.
google avatar

Melissa H.

Yelp
Excellent service. Excellent food. I would love to come back if I am ever again in Columbus. -I am tired- sorry no pics. Just come see for yourself. Small place. Long bar and I keep hearing the drinks are awesome from those at the bar behind me.

Yelp
Ok yall, I went in this joint with an appetite and I definitely was satisfied. Ya boy ordered the fried green tomatoes as an app. YA BOY was flabbergasted when he found out these wizards at black cow put a fried piece of goat cheese between each fried tomatoe OH LAWD!! This succulent masterpiece did not last long as I tried to finish it without breathing, no easy task I must say. For the main attraction ya boy ordered the salmon BLT and sweet Jesus indeed. This drippin' sandwich was juicy, flavorful.... Shit, I shed a few tears when I was on my last bite. 8.4/10 fried green tomatoes, 8.1 salmon BLT. Bartender (began with an A) was the best waitress/waiter I've had in the area. Asked for recommendations and she guided me on my question for obesity in way I could never describe. Without her this night out would have been a last cause. Service 10/10
google avatar

Cranston D.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, excellent service, well stocked bar and the food was great! I had steak tips, the green beans were sautéed and maybe the best thing on the plate, my wife had the meatloaf which was excellent, it comes with heavy red/tomato sauce so if you don't care for that flavor be warned
google avatar

Yelp
WOW. THIS PLACE WAS AMAZING. The staff were super gracious and sweet in updating us on the status of our table. It was quite the wait as there was a military graduation in town so it was nice to know the updates. While we waited for a table, Abby helped us out at the bar. She took amazing care of us and even made time to talk a little and turns out, we both love everything to do with spicy stuff! Which leads me to myyyy: Bloody Mary Review!!! If any of you follow me and check out my reviews, you'll know I LOVE Bloody Mary's and that I'm on a quest to find the PERFECT Bloody Mary! I had the Mad Cow Mary here and WOW. Not only was the flavor amazing, but the spice? Literally perfect. With habanero organic vodka and a bit of other added spice here and there, this hit the nail on the head. After about 5 sips I was breathing fire and loving every bit of it. If you love spicy Bloody Mary's, this here is the home for them. Abby did an amazing job of taking care of us at her table and we had absolutely ZERO complaints. For appetizer I HIGHLY recommend the BLT dip with pita chips. Very satisfying for an appetizer. Ambiance is great! Pub style and laid back. Go here to make that stomach happy.

Michaela V.

Yelp
We're visiting Columbus for an Army graduation and our Airbnb suggested the Black Cow to us, and oh boy was it a great suggestion! We weren't super hungry, so only a few of us ordered entrees and the rest just bought appetizers to share. The lobster tots and fried bacon were delicious! And all of the entrees we got as well were great (the meatloaf, fish & chips, and prime rib). All of their staff are super friendly, quick, and helpful. Our server was Kaden and she was fantastic. So friendly and knowledgeable! Overall, fantastic experience and great food!

Chuck H.

Yelp
Nate was excellent!!! Great service and the price was unbelievable ... food was great! Every time is a great experience .

Roy J.

Yelp
I had meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, and pineapple casserole. My wife had fried pork chops, mashed potatoes with gravy, and green beans. All the food was FANTASTIC, and Nate, our server, is now know by us as "Nate, the Great"!!!
google avatar

Candace L.

Yelp
We shared a yummy dinner at The Black Cow last weekend. We were seated immediately upon arriving and the place remained a buzz our entire time there. Several parties coming in to enjoy dinner. I had a sweet tea to start. My son and I shared the fried okra, chicken and waffle with collards and my bff had the meatloaf with green beans. I'd definitely repeat visit on another trip to town or bring guests here for a casual, tasty and filling dinner if they're in town. Great spot! Friendly service and food came out in a very reasonable time. We snagged a parking spot around the corner.
google avatar

Yelp
****And the Cow Says Moo!" I didn't eat any cow but the chicken and waffles and Shrimp and Grits were Money! I came here on a business trip and the kids met up with me. The restaurant itself initially appears to be just another bar restaurant. It is not. The food here is very good. The food is also very reasonably priced. The service makes this place all that and a bag of chips. Nothing and I mean Nothing beats real Southern Food and Southern Hospitality. Crispy chicken skins and juicy chicken meat top a perfectly prepared stack of pancakes. I would order this dish again! Grits? Well, it is amazing how grits can be so different depending on who makes them. They do grits right here. Wait, there's more! Absolutely do not forget the collard greens. Overall, I am a fan of this place and then some.

Yelp
My overall favourite restaurant in Columbus so far in the year I have lived here! The Restaurant is an amazing experience, and I enjoyed the high top tables towards the back better than the seating near the door. The fried green tomato tower is better than the Appetizer! I've gotten a Shrimp po boy and burger there and really enjoyed both.
google avatar

Tasha G.

Yelp
I was not able to order anything from the restaurant because I arrived after the kitchen closed. My family that was able to order and received their food and stated the food was too salty. The restaurant was clean.
google avatar

Jennifer Leigh T.

Yelp
Tonight was my second time to eat at The Black Cow! It did not disappoint! The food was amazing, I got Shrimp and grits again and this dish is consistently Delicious! I promise it's not your typical shrimp and grits! The grits are fried in a block and have an unexpected crunch on the outside! The shrimp are tender and the sauce is rich and creamy making each bite better than the one before! The service is 2nd to none and the atmosphere is quaint and cozy with exposed brick walls and a beautiful bar! GO! You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Benjamin C.

Yelp
The meat loaf was pretty tasty, but they didn't heat it up enough. Collards had a good smoky flavor too. Beer on draft was good. I'd give another dish a shot here, but the only thing memorable here for me so far was partly cold meat loaf.
google avatar

Tim L.

Yelp
Easily the best burger in town. Nothing else is even in the same class. Check out the pineapple casserole as well.
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
The Black Cow has a casual atmosphere utilizing the industrial brick feel of downtown Columbus. Drink menu has some custom cocktails and I tried the Georgia Peach Mule. It was quite refreshing on a hot Georgia day. I sat at the bar and Abby, the bartender, was super friendly and very helpful with ordering. I had the side salad (which I failed to take a picture of ‍), it was pretty basic but the vinaigrette dressing Abby recommended was delicious. I ate the Steakhouse Burger with fries for my meal. It was a good burger, the blue cheese crumbles mixed well with the caramelized onions. Amazing staff! Refreshing drinks. Laid back vibe. Good food.

Felica C.

Yelp
Food was AMAZING! Try the Lobster and the Pineapple Casserole if you're looking for a good appetizer. Nate was our server and he was INCREDIBLE!

Veronica H.

Yelp
Great food. Service= great! The food took a little to come out but overall great Friendly service, yummy food. Good atmosphere
