The food was absolutely amazing! Everything was made well and cooked to perfection with high quality ingredients. The service was good, the only thing a little off was our server seemed to be much more friendly with the tables around us but not us as much. I don't really know why but overall we still got everything we needed and had a good experience.

Black Cyprus is an absolute gem!!! I was hesitant to go, but my professor highly recommended I try it out, and I am so glad I did! The filet mignon was incredible…perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. The atmosphere was amazing and an overall chill vibe. I highly recommend this spot for any special occasion!! On top of that, I had a fantastic waiter who really elevated the experience. I had such an amazing night celebrating my 21st birthday here! I Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for great food and a memorable night out.

The Black Cypress was my first time being at a properly nice restaurant. Being used to very nice, locally grown/sourced food I wasn't expecting a crazy increase in taste, but they did not disappoint. The atmosphere is unique in the sense of the exposed brick, low light, and use of mirrors to make the place feel bigger. The warm colors of the restaurant definitely eased the feeling of being new to fine dining. The service was also a great experience in introduction to fine dining, and our waitress took very good care of us. Checked in when necessary, but let us enjoy our evening as well. A welcome change! The food was fantastic! We tried the Carbonara suggested by our waitress, the ribeye, and the cheese sandwiches (which are to die for). The carbonara was excellent in taste, had a nice rich flavor that combined well with the salt of the bacon. The ribeye we ordered medium rare, which was perfect as well. Had a nice smoke ring, was tender and flavorful. Overall, I'd recommend going more than once. As I'm itching to do the same. It's a good place for friends, family, date night (which I'll be doing next) and worth making a reservation for!

This restaurant truly lets you escape into a beautiful atmosphere. You can immediately see the thoughtful changes the new owners have made; bringing this historic landmark into the new era while still honoring the essence of its past. The service is exceptional. The waitstaff move fluently through the space, often with one arm behind them, showcasing how well this team works together. And the drinks! Absolutely amazing! An unforgettable experience from start to finish.

This restaurant is excellent. We had my daughters college graduation dinner here, and it was fabulous. The service, custom cocktails, and food was on point. They went out of their way to make sure it was a special evening. Side note, try the bacon! So good!

My fiance anmyself went here for new years as we were visiting for work. We had clams to start, I had there special beef skewers and he had the rib eye. Im telling you, this food was phenomenal. I donk think theres been a better steak ive eaten. Also the clam appetizer had me melting at ever bite. Plus the service was exceptional. Thank you for making our experience perfect.

The cutest place in Pullman Washington! Perfect date night spot. We ordered olives for the table, and everyone enjoyed it. We devoured the pita dip in minutes, my favorite was the garlic dip! And man, this carbonara is ginormous!! In the bay, $26 would've gotten me a 1/3 of this size. This was dinner and breakfast for the next day... they also serve fresh baked dinner rolls. Servers were very nice and friendly. Would come back!

I'm ngl there is nothing in Pullman, WA and I've been DoorDashing mod pizza from Idaho the past few days I've been here, but I found this restaurant and now I can at least saw Pullman has some good carbonara. The lamb chops here were also great. Thanks for putting the city on the map

We came here for dinner and had a wonderful experience. The food was awesome. So flavorful and beyond our expectations. We savored every bite of our food while enjoying the relaxed vibe of this place. I have no words for the professionalism of the staff. The best service we have ever witnessed. Wiley was our main server and we were very impressed. The team works together really well. We had an amazing night overall. Great food and service. Highly recommended. We will definitely be back.

Made a reservation almost a month in advance yet the day of, they left me a message telling me that they over booked the day and needed to move back my reservation. I called them back a little later as I was working at the time and they said they fixed it by splitting up a table. When we got there the table we had was almost too small for appetizers and felt jammed into the corner. On top of this, the service felt slow due to the amount of times that our and other servers were attentively caring to other patrons, yet seems to forget about us. This was disappointing as every other time I have went I enjoyed it throughly, and considered the price point acceptable for the services provided. Based on my experience today I can say that the prices now are not remotely justified and would recommend getting dinner somewhere else regardless of your budget.

The Black Cypress never disappoints, rather always exceeds every expectation. It's no wonder that they were nominated for a James Beard in the toughest category of all, Hospitality. Every Cougar Football Weekend dinner here on Friday night is a treasure.

Im only in Pullman a few times a year but I always stop by Black Cypress. Food selection is phenomenal and service is amazing. The menu is pretty varied so you can get anything from steak to pasta to salad. I've had the pork chop multiple times and have no complaints. Definitely get the cheeseboard appetizer. Goes well with a nice drink.

We were in pullman for Graduation ceremony and stopped at Black Cypress w/o having a reservation. We were seated within a few minutes. We LOVED the food. Our waiter was sweet. We finished the pita but had left over dips, so he got extra pita bread. He also got us an order of fresh, hot bread rolls. We ordered Gimlet Cosmo Moon Sprite Pita and dip Lamb chops Seasonal Soup Goat cheese Panna cotta ( it came with orange slices, mint n orange curd) Everything was delicious. I HIGHLY recommend.

I'm here in Pullman with my daughter for the WSU visit for new students. I looked up good restaurants in Pullman and this place always came up so I made a reservation. Suuuuper cute!! You almost feel like you're not in Pullman anymore. The drinks and the food were great and the service was fantastic! We ordered the clams, roasted chicken and the Carbonara. The roasted chicken was the best I've ever had. It was juicy, flavorful and the skin was crisp. The carbonara was good a little salty for me but it wasn't for for my daughter. The house made rolls... sooo good. Definitely make a reservation here if you're visiting Pullman.

It's a SHAM of a steak house...did I mention you get the privilege of ordering your... "salt and pepper" & serve yourself. It's a JOKE called a steakhouse. The service is SLOW, & if you don't Present "the aura" of wealth, you'll get ignored. The worst part...you pay $50 for a ribeye riddled with sweet seasonings. I hope you're happy to pay $50+ for a pumpkin pie steak. Save your money & stay away....Taco Time with draft beer is significantly better.

The food is good here! The carbonara was a little disappointing but the pork inside of it was absolutely delicious. The server was really nice and the decor is wonderful!

Came to Pullman for one night and found this gem! The food was delicious, we had the cheese plate, caesar, and finished with the brownie. The restaurant had a really cute atmosphere too. Kevin L was our waiter and we absolutely loved him! Very attentive and kind- congrats on graduating Kevin! If I ever visit Pullman again, I'll be eating here.

The food and ambience were amazing. We had the carbonara, roast chicken, Caesar salad and dolmas. The flavors were great! Chicken was tender, the kale cooked perfectly. The carbonara was the best I've had and the Caesar was perfect. Will definitely be back!

Ordered pasta carbonara and rolls to go. The restaurant itself also had great ambiance, very fancy. The staff who took my order was super friendly. GET THE ROLLS, they were so so fluffy. My order also came with this platter of skewers, hummus and broccolini which was a surprise. I loved the skewers, beef was soo tender. Broccolini was a great addition because I love veggies in my meals. The pasta was tasty with the bacon, a little heavy but hey it's a carbonara. Next time I'm definitely going to try and dine in. Also, there is street parking, and also free parking lots nearby that's walkable distance.

The food here is pretty good but the thing to write home about The Black Cypress is their service. I went twice at the end of April and again at the beginning of May to visit my boyfriend and both times, service was just exceptional. I know tipping has been getting out of hand but this is a place you will not feel bad about giving a large tip to for service. All the servers are very attentive, easy to speak to, and kind. It almost feels like a warm hug. For instance, while I was there I heard servers offer to take photos for customers when they saw them struggle to take photos themselves, our server kept an eye on my boyfriend's drink to know when to re-approach when he mentioned he wasn't sure if he wanted to order another one, and another server who helped our table out remembered a passing comment I made about us wanting to share our orders so he had the food split into 2 plates (I thought my boyfriend and I would just manually split everything ourselves!). Honestly, I thought the service exceeded even the food, but, onto the food! They have a rotating menu that focuses on only a few items at a time. The carbonara and spaghetti was delicious and the pasta was perfectly al dente. The wagyu special came with broccolini and I don't know what they did with it but I couldn't stop eating it. It was a little smoky but so tender yet still crisp. They didn't ask how we wanted our meat cooked but it came out as medium. The wagyu came from a local farm by the Snake River. There was a grilled halloumi cheese toast that had fig spread on it that I couldn't stop thinking about. The salad was good but I do regret getting that in favor of something more substantial. I recommend the stronger cocktails at the bottom of the third page of the menu.

Very polite service. Waitstaff knew the menu. Only complaint is that the beverages didn't come right away. I would have ordered more drinks if the rotation went around quicker but there was only time for two glasses. I get kind a nervous when I don't have a drink in my hand but seriously... one of my favorite things in a restaurant like this is to quickly get drinks and sip while considering the menu. Anyway, the red from France I got, the Cab/Bordeaux was phenomenal. For my second glass I sampled the Syrah and the evening special but I had do a second glass of the same. My son got this on-tap root beer, Crater Lake that was everything he said he's always wanted root beer to be. I tasted it- it was perfect. Low on the fizz factor and the server said that was intentional. The soup was knock-our-socks off good. They would have been my dinner had I known! I was in the mood for pasta which was a funny choice since it's hard to judge how good a place is by that type of dish but the pasta is made in-house so I went for it. It scratched my itch. Our friends said the Snake River Waygu was decent and they say they bc they were at John Howie last week for the premium stuff and we do that, so my husband went with the ribeye to sample a menu staple. He wasn't disappointed. It looked great. It was cooked perfectly. I tasted the mashed potatoes and they had a perfect texture and flavoring. I might have added a little salt but that's just me. Oh, funny tidbit- when we sat down my husband mentioned they were very confident not having salt and pepper on the table and nary a steak knife was brought to the table either. And none were needed. For the salad... eh. The bacon was smoky which was nice but it was a little dry and woody. For the soup. I wish there was a daily specials menu so I could have photographed it for memories and for posting here, but there wasn't. All I can say is that there was lamb, there was lime, there were beans, there was cilantro and I would eat it every day of my life. It's hard to put beans in soup; I always feel it suckers with the consistency and this was done right all around. Delicious! We did get to keep the menus during dining which I like to do bc we sometimes order more and I like to read the descriptions as I'm eating. Without the specials written down, I didn't have that reference. With that said, with their sustainability goals, I understand why there aren't daily special print-outs. Maybe as a QR code in the future? Also with the sustainability subject... we noticed the inconsistent, thrifty silverware and really appreciated a place dedicated to respecting such flavor balance and holding true to their ideals in all areas. The brownie desert- I barely tasted it, my son wouldn't share! When is put my fork towards it he'd smack it with his own fork! Funny but not bc I barely got a nibble. Very tasty. Brownie was cooked perfectly. The ice cream wasn't gummy, it was very pure. Now... there talk about the burnt crème. What in tarrrnation was this creation? My only regret was not being able to fit a second order of this in my stomach. I loved the light consistency and flavor. The topping, could have been more burnt for that crispy topping but with the honey I acknowledge they could have been impossible. The salty pistachios... for heavens sakes... my perfect scenario is coming back, alone, eating this desert in the dark slowly, no other input, and savoring each and every bite. What sticks with me the most is my appreciation for their subtle flavors and appropriate textures in some of their dishes. Example- If I see another overdone caramelized brussels sprout dish with so much maple and sugar and bacon and sauce on it, I'm going to scream. The mashed potatoes here were hit home by the texture- no need to pile in too much garlic. The best food isn't only what's added but just as much about about what's reserved. Largest complaint I could give would be that this place is always sold out and I want to come back again and again. It's an obvious first choice of where to dine in Pullman. What a gem!

Maybe Monday night is just an off night for this restaurant. We went based on a hotel recommendation not knowing about the award. Seating was easy without a reservation. The servers took a long time to come over such that we had to flag someone down. The beet salad was terrific for the person who had it. The wrong salad came out for the other person and had to be sent back. The ordered wine came late but the house red is quite good. For those of us who had the meatballs, they were terrific. The brownie dessert was also quite good. But the recommended pork chop was overcooked to the point of being chewy. The sauce around it was terrific. And for the decaf after dinner, they never brought it and eventually said they were out of decaf. So, maybe Monday is an off night.

We were sure the James Beard nomination The Black Cypress received just three days before would make a reservation impossible; we were wrong and SO glad we went. The team was as warm, lovely and gracious as the Hospitality nomination would indicate. We were especially impressed at how well versed everyone was on practically every detail of each menu item. Warm and inviting, we started at the bar to wait for our table and had great conversations with several of the bar team who proactively offered us three separate tastes of three wines to ensure my eventual selection was to my liking. The atmosphere is busy but relaxed and lovely--the very vibe we love that supports a nice experience. We were seated in a nice table for two and at the recommendation of the bar team, we started with the clams. Surprisingly, the clams were good sized clams and flavorful. They were nestled with huge chunks of house smoked bacon and swimming in a wine, garlic and kale broth that complimented without overwhelming the clams. Living in Seattle, we eat a LOT of clams; theses are ones to be remembered. Wow. For dinner, Hubby had the carbonara which was luscious and tasty. I had the petit filet mignon topped with foie gras, with an amazing red wine reduction, whipped potatoes and broccolini. Amazing. Rolls were freshly baked and tasted every crumb of it. We split the brownie and ice cream for dessert which is all locally sourced. The tab was surprisingly low for the level of the quality and experience. The high quality of the ingredients is evident. We observed other diners who were obviously enjoying their evening as much as we were. The food was excellent and together with a staff that clearly knows just how to make a guest feel welcome, The Black Cypress just jumped to the top of our list when we go to Pullman. Great service elevates a food experience but it's the result of a lot of hard work and a staff working together as a team. It's obvious to see why The Black Cypress caught the attention of the James Beard Foundation.

Good food and good service but make sure you have a reservation and be willing to wait a little longer for food to come out. But they have excellent specials and appetizers which are definitely worth the wait!

Trust me, this is a gem of a place! Try it all, because everything is great. Also great drinks and a fabulous wine selection.

We had a wonderful dinner at The Black Cypress. The service was amazing. Kevin was our server - excellent. The staff's attention to every detail was perfect. I started with cauliflower and broccoli soup followed by the lamb chops. I am not sure what was in the soup but I would love to have the recipe. The lamb portion was huge. I asked for medium rare and got more medium but no complaints. The seasoning was perfect and I gnawed on the bones. We shared the bread pudding with huckleberry ice cream. I would recommend you don't miss. You deserve a Michelin star - . Thank you.

Loved the interior design and atmosphere of The Black Cypress. Such a nice place! Food was amazing! The chicken alone is worth coming over from Seattle. Steak and pasta were very nice too! Freshly baked bread... delicious. I cannot forget the dessert - Panna cotta was superb.

5 Stars all day long! The service at Black Cypress showcases why they deserved the honor of winning a James Beard award. The staff smiles and hospitality were infectious. The food was excellent. The craft cocktails were near perfect. Don't miss if you are anywhere within 100 miles of Pullman Washington.

Seeking an upscale but non-pretentious venue for a graduation celebration, we were satisfied with our overall experience at Black Cypress. The ambiance was sleek yet inviting, and the menu reflected a modern take on Mediterranean favorites such as souvlaki and pasta. Everything we ordered was light, refreshing, and thoughtfully presented. I ordered the dolmas appetizer to share, along with the beet salad and pork souvlaki. The dolmas were delicious and came with a side of tzatziki dip. The beet salad was unique in that the beet really is the star of the show - radish, parsley, pistachios, and blue cheese are interspersed among large chunks of beet. While I had been expecting more of a "traditional" salad, I thoroughly enjoyed the contrasting textures of the crunchy radishes and pistachios against the creamy blue cheese. The pork souvlaki was flavorful and satisfying, and the dish was served with pita wedges for scooping up the delicious tzatziki. Our server also brought out complimentary buttery Parker house rolls, which were appreciated by the guests who ordered pasta. After toasting our grad, we enjoyed some crisp brüt while lingering over the food. While I would have liked to see more seafood and veggie-centric dishes - besides salads and the grilled portobello - everything we ordered was delicious. Black Cypress is a great spot for a special meal, whether you're marking a major life event or treating yourself.

We had a wonderful meal here. We were in Pullman visiting my son and he suggested it. We ate at the bar, because they were busy. Fantastic service from the bartender.

The hostess and the server were both incredibly kind. A person who I assume is a runner or server support person, was also super genuine. I was taken care of, food arrived in a timely manner, it was all good!! The only thing I'm concerned about that knocks a star, is the server did not ID me for my drink. I asked them why and it caught them off guard. I made a joke about being on "Undercover Boss" and they thought I was serious at first. Hopefully that helped them understand that you don't know who is ordering and how you can get in trouble.

Black Cypress has incredible food and a lovely ambiance. You will pay a small premium over other Pullman spots, but it is well worth it for the experience and the incredible food. We had the Cypriot cheese sandwiches, which themselves are good, but the herb slaw that they were served with made them truly delicious. We then had two bowls of pasta, one of the carbonara and one of the pomodoro. I refuse to try anything else on the BC menu just because the carbonara is too perfect to pass up!!! The huge chunks of bacon live in my dreams. The pomodoro also received rave reviews! Finally, we split a carafe of the house white, which is well priced for two genuinely good glasses of wine. Try Black Cypress, you'll be glad that you did.

The best food in Pullman hands down. This place is a true gem in our small town for its amazing food and atmosphere. Took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we had the best steak of our lives. The drinks here are really special and unique as well. Once we save up a bit more money we will have to come here again. We don't eat out much because the restaurants around here pale in comparison to Seattle but this place is truly top tier.

Food is great. Would go back if entertaining guests but we can make food just as good at home. Lots of props to Black Cyprus for their steak. You can get a better steak here than at any of the local steak houses. Go figure! We ordered several courses so we could try a bit of everything. The carbonara was not like a real carbonara with eggs yolks, it had a creme base like an Alfredo. My 13 year old was disappointed because she knew the difference. I also had to go home and later that week make bread pudding so that the family would know what real bread pudding is like. The family said mine was better. Cold bread pudding? I still can't get over it. When I go out and pay top dollar I expect dishes better than what I can make or something I'm not willing to make. Also $15 drinks are outrageous, BUT they were really really good.

Food was tasty and folks didn't look down at my decidedly west coast state of dress. Place is a bit of a narrow storefront so you might miss it. Else really good!

Yum. Great service! Great food! Well worth a visit. Pullman needs to support restaurants like this. It's nice to have some higher end dining in town.

Sometimes I wish yelp would break ratings down into categories, like service and food. For food, I'd give a 5, everything was great, cocktails were good, the dinner rolls were excellent. Service, I've had more attentive servers at Denny's. The restaurant was busy, but still had empty tables. I saw multiple servers working, so not a case of too many tables per server. It took close to 10 minutes before a server appeared, who said water was on the way, but that only appeared a minute before my cocktail. Server took our order, and we never saw him again until the bill was presented. No refresh on the water, no inquiry on new drinks, never brought the coke that was ordered. For the premium prices , the food should be good, AND the service should make you want to come back. I might try again, hopefully we just got a sub par server.

I've never been in to this restaurant when the service wasn't bad. In fact they've ruined a few special occasions for our family. The ambiance is poor if you're not a favored guest. And the food is totally the chefs pallet with no consideration towards any of the customers who mistakenly come to dine at this establishment. Their over priced menu and the assumption of high class dining is overrated. Go to any other restaurant in town. You'll get better food and service. Even from Pizza Pipeline.

A Thursday night at 6 PM with reservations. Anyone say James Beard Award? Sat at a two-top that should be labeled as a four-top as the tables were THAT close. (Other tables were spaced nicely.) Sound was good, the floor was interesting. Had fancy Shirley Temple with fancy cherries (yes to the Temple; no to the cherries.) - had a couple Temples...very good. Hubby had a (strawberry? or raspberry?) Negroni he liked very much. Tiny fancy cheese sandwiches for app - the mint was def a twist. Vichyssoise for soup YES! - (warm, not cold). Ceasar for salad - oh my, the house bacon! Carbonara with that awesome house bacon too! Roasted chicken VERY SALT FORWARD. EW. Rolls came with the meal - would have gone well with the Vichyssoise mop up. Huckleberry ice cream for dessert. (Darned tasty ice cream.) Leftover carbonara for the next day. $140 for James Beard restaurant--yeah, worth it.

My sister and I were passing through Pullman and did not expect to be able to eat at Black Cypress on a Saturday night at 6:30 without a reservation. We took a gamble and drove to the restaurant and, surprisingly, they were able to fit us in with no wait at a cozy small table. We started out with their tiny half size gimlet martinis, and they were delicious! We very much enjoyed the halloumi cheese sandwich appetizer. Absolutely delicious! I had their portobello mushroom entrée with truffled mashed potatoes and rapini, and my sister had their beet salad as an entrée. Both were delicious and perfectly prepared. We know they have been nominated for a James Beard award for Service/Hospitality and we feel it is highly deserved! Our server and the host were incredibly friendly, and somehow, although we had multiple servers bringing us dishes, they always got it to the right person and knew exactly where we were in the dining process. We had an excellent bread pudding with huckleberry ice cream for dessert. Overall, it was a perfect meal with stellar service! If you are anywhere near Pullman, I would highly recommend seeking this restaurant out, and do not be deterred by not having a reservation as they might be able to fit you in!

After several visits to The Black Cypress, I can truly say it is one of the best places to eat in Pullman, if not the singular best. I have been with several different groups and everyone has been pleased with their experiences. Definitely take up the offer of free dinner rolls, they are excellent. I would also highly recommend the clams, and they will occasionally have a great steak special. But to be quite honest, you can't go wrong with anything. The service is always solid and the ambience is also lovely. If you're on the fence, give it a try!

We are in town for parents weekend at University of Idaho. We took our son here last night for dinner. The ambiance was great. Love the decor! Love all the plants! The staff so was friendly and the food was perfect! We had 2 different pastas and a steak dinner.

The food was amazing highly recommended the claims! Service was smooth, fast and friendly! Music was present but not blaring!! Love this place will definitely be back!!
