We ordered some food here to complement our beers from Live Oak and we are glad we did. We tried the brat, pretzel and smoked nuts. The smoked nuts for phenomenal. We liked them so much we ordered 2 more to-go. We also ordered a couple of the cherry bombs for a sweet treat. Everything was great.

Loved the food here!! We tried a few things for the first time and the food was flavorful and delicious. Great service and we got our food really quick. Will definitely be back for the fries and fried okra!

Google
Made it to the brewery for the first time, which we loved...but fell even more in love with this spot. Such wonderful quality and flavors - this German girl is happy to find this place and am will be back soon.

Google
I cannot say enough good things about the Black Forest food truck! As someone who is German, I’ve always been skeptical about finding truly authentic German food here in the U.S.—but this place blew me away. I was there last Sunday. I ordered the schnitzel, red cabbage, and potato salad, and every bite took me right back to meals I’ve had in Germany. The flavors were perfectly balanced, the ingredients fresh, and the preparation clearly done with care and tradition in mind. What really sets Black Forest apart is the passion of the owner, Neal. You can tell he truly loves what he does. He took the time to explain how he prepares each dish, sticking to authentic methods and honoring the recipes he’s perfected. That kind of dedication shows in the final product—it’s not just food, it’s a culinary experience. Please support this incredible local business. If you're craving real German comfort food or just want to try something new and delicious, Black Forest will not disappoint!

The chicken sliders and garlic fries were amazing! This is my go to before I hit the airport every time!

Google
We got a schnitzel W leaving witch, brat, and fries. All were excellent! Wonderful grounds to walk on, friendly service, and pickled cucumbers and peppers that come with it are phenomenal 👍

Google
Man, thank you so much!!! My grandma would’ve approved, and we were craving the best. As authentic as I have found in Austin. The cucumber salad is refreshing and took me back to my childhood. The schnitzel was crispy and lemony perfection. I even ate my vegetables… This is a local business to support! They’re open weekends now, but hopefully open every day soon as more businesses are able to open. Easy parking, shout out to Live Oak Brewing company. Really, WORTH supporting.

Google
Was lucky enough to try this at an Octoberfest event in Austin, shortly after I ordered they would set out this BRB sign for 5 to 10 minutes at a time, the wait was not long at all for my food they were just perhaps understaffed or unable to take too many orders at once. Well worth the wait I say! The schnitzel was fried perfectly, same with the ham hock croquettes amazing flavors, everything went well with the beer even their little jar of mustard, my only regret is I did not order more food. Followed them on social media would certainly go out of my way for a chance to dine with them again

Yelp
This pretzel was as good as it looks. Freshly made, warm, and the Maldon salt was amazing. Queso was great also. The kicker was the service. Didn't grab your name, but the lad it the truck was awesome! Best thing you could do while killing time before the airport.

Yelp
The food was great I even got potato salads to take home. We had almost everything on the menu and loved every bite. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite food truck. I love their schnitzel sandwich. It's crunchy and light, plus the sauce is fantastic. I have to get it every time we come. One of our visits they had a sausage with a curry and tots and it was delicious! We love coming to Live Oak and relaxing under the canopy of beautiful trees with a cold drink and a wonderful meal from Black Forest. The owner of the food truck is always friendly and polite. Highly recommend checking them out.

Yelp
Fantastic food and service. Everything I tried here was very good and matched perfectly with the German beers from Live Oak.

Amanda C.

Yelp
The food was absolutely incredible and the service was excellent! 10/10 recommend them!

Yelp
Solid German food that pairs well with the beers from Live Oak. Fantastic service. Simple menu that always delivers. Their pretzel is FANTASTIC!!!!! Love this spot.

Yelp
The food here is great! Goes perfectly with Live Oaks beers. My husband & I have been coming here for years now. The owner is super nice.

Yelp
First thing I ate after I got off the plane and I already have high expectations for everything else I'll have this weekend. Also the guy working gave excellent recommendations on other food spots. 10/10 would come back.

Yelp
Wonderful food truck serving snacky German food, perfect to wash down a beer with! Everything was fairly priced and the food came out within 5-7 min. We tried their pretzel and schnitzelwich - the pretzel was perfectly soft and paired with delicious grainy mustard and beer cheese. It was good enough for us to get two more to go! The schnitzelwich was also a hit - the schnitzel is perfectly crunchy and a great textural and flavor balance with the soft pretzel roll and crisp pickled red onions. Would definitely recommend checking this out if you're hanging at Live Oak brewery and feeling peckish!

Yelp
Food truck at Live Oak Brewery. Soo good! I get the schnitzelwich every time I go. I crave it. I live way up in NW Austin and will drive out of my way to go here.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! We had the brat in a bun, schnitzel sandwich, potato salad, pretzel, and pickled veggies. Everything was delicious and their house mustard is magnificent. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
This hidden gem is worth visiting. Smaller list on the menu so each can be perfected, and that they are. The theme is German food. The food is competitively priced and taste is amazing. The service is great and doesn't take long to get. Come give it a try!

Yelp
Tiny food truck next to (in parking lot of) humongous (super modern) brewery ... awesome sausages !!! We came due to its proximity to the airport and the great reviews. Both things are true... but it is a one way street and the way out takes you away from the airport to loop around 10 minutes out and I barely made my flight!! Next time I hope they have the schnitzel!! They ran out. The lady attendant was curt, but she did her job and the food was delish. I got a pretzel and the wurst sausage... the pink stuff was awesome the mustard was delish... the location was dreamy! It's all wood tables outdoors but has levels... it just made the place the more surreal and fun! Def back to try the schnitzel with more time to loop around and catch my plane! :)

Yelp
The Black Forest is a food truck at Live Oak Brewing. I've had a lot of food from food trucks and it's hit or miss. The food at The Black Forest was next level. The schnitzel was tender and perfectly cooked and served sandwich style in a fresh pretzel bun. The bratwurst was topped by fantastic mustard (which they sell) and on a fresh bun. We also had pickled veggies which were beautifully seasoned. Last, but certainly not least was the potato salad. Anyone who loves German food or BBQ has had plenty of potato salad. This was, by far, the most flavorful potato salad I've ever had. It was very flavorful and had a hint of sweetness that was a perfect balance and was topped with fresh dill and capers.

Amy N.

Yelp
Great food, cleanly made and beautiful presentation. We ordered the bratwurst and schnitzlewich which was like a long sandwich with super crispy chicken cutlet. Both were yummy! The bratwurst comprised of a delicious sausage, real coarse grained mustard, crunchy hotdog bread. Pickled veggies were colorful and added a unique kick to the flavor. Great family owned restaurant with great food and friendly people.

Yelp
I really liked this place the first time I came but my most recent trip was not as good. The pretzel and cheese were lukewarm. They had a very limited menu and unfortunately, no potato pancakes. Maybe I came on the wrong day but I was not as impressed as I was the first time I came.

Robert K.

Yelp
The food here is constantly amazing. Try the smoked chicken wings if they are on the menu. Best food truck in Austin.

Crystal C.

Yelp
Wonderful, delish German-inspired food. The thought comes through in the details with their dishes. I wouldn't be surprised if a former chef is cooking up the menu. We returned today to Live Oak Brewery for the 3rd time..JUST for Black Forest. And the fresh air because covid sucks braut. Thank you again for a delicious meal. Even the kid ate it! :) And BIG thank you for being such a kind and patient person to my hyper 4 year old. Get the warm pretzel, the beer brat, the fries, ALL OF IT.

Yelp
It's a German food truck behind the Live Oak Brewery... and it's GENIUS! The food tasted fresh or artisanal. The sausage/bratwurst has a tenderness of freshly made sausage. The pretzel was buttery, freshly baked soft but with a satisfying toothsome crunch. They had sugar cokes which my kids loved and I went in to the brewery for a beer that was just as cheap as I could get at the grocery store. I had the Hefeweizen... which is my traditional go to summer beer. You put all that together and it was a wondrous afternoon. I would have stayed for hours but we were in for a concert at the 360 Amphitheater and this was luckily on the way / minor detour. There is a schnitzel sandwich which was good but not great for the price. My son had ordered it and it was a little too adult for his palate and a little to carby for my diabetes. The pretzel roll tasted fresh and they had fresh sauerkraut made from purple cabbage topped with a dijon mustard. If you're into schnitzel then I recommend getting the Dijon on the side but remember that if you're having beer as well then you may want to cut at least a few carbs and go for the bratwurst. Oh ... I almost forgot about the homemade pickle vegetables. They came with the bratwurst and they were glorious. They had a light tartness and were crisp not soggy and played well against the sausage and the beer. They were excellent in rounding out the meal. My kids stole my bratwursts but I got to keep the pickles which made me happy. So the sausage was 'snap' then tender, the pickles were crunch, crunch, the pretzel was crunch soft, and the beer was crisp and smooth... altogether it was magic. We enjoyed the concert but l loved my dinner ~.^

Yelp
The Brussel sprouts were the best thing on the menu. Very good mix (including apples). Had brats that were edible but meh. Pretzel was good, not great - we didn't finish it. And the chicken schnitzel sandwich was bland and over cooked. It is at the brewery which bumps it up a notch. So consider this a star for awesome trees and locale, a star for the brussel sprouts, and a star for being at the brewery. Glad to have some food here. If your coming to the brewery anyway, it is definitely worth a try; I hear their specials are good. But their regular everyday is better than nothing, so that's something.

Yelp
The food and service are both amazing. We had the beets and pretzel, loved both. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
We had the hot dog and pigs in a blanket. Both were overpriced and overprocessed. No toppings and limited sauces. You know that feeling of regret when the experience fell way short of the sodium, saturated fat, etc baddies consumed? Ok ok, so my wife didn't hate the hot dog. I have to say, I wish they weren't sold out of the pretzels. I bet those were much better.
google avatar

Gabriel N.

Yelp
Excellent food. Nice staff. The guy that cooked my Schnitzelwich was quick about it and the portion was bigger than I thought. 10/10 definitely coming back.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised at how amazingly delicious this place was! My aunt was in town visiting, and I was looking for a good German place for us to have lunch yesterday. I gave her a list of options, and when she saw this food truck was right next to a brewery, she chose The Black Forest. I mistakenly thought a food truck wouldn't be the source for good German food. I was WRONG. We each chose the Schnitzel-wich and split an order of Pomme Frites. I figured the sandwich would be schnitzel on a hamburger bun and the fries would be typical (nothing to write home about). The schnitzel was cooked to perfection, nice and crispy, and was served on a pretzel-type bun, with pickled cabbage and vegetables, and a lemon caper sauce. OH. MY. GOSH. WOW!! It was just about the tastiest sandwich I've ever had. And the Pomme Frites were DELICIOUS and unique. That elusively perfect french fry that is cut to the exact right thickness, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside... Mmm! Unique were the seasonings, and the sauces with which they were served: a garlic aioli and a curry ketchup. Paired with my Live Oak Berliner Weiße, this was the best meal I've had all summer, and I will certainly be back to taste the rest of the menu.

Yelp
I used Black Forest as a caterer for a corporate event I planned at Live Oak Brewing Co. Oh my goodness, the food was FANTASTIC. Possibly the best soft pretzel I've ever had, plus several craft hors devours-type foods to pair with beer selections from the brewery that were creative and remarkably good. And the desserts y'all! My favorite was the black forest cake, though all of the selections were greatly enjoyed by our guests. Aside from the food being phenomenal, Neil, the owner and chef, was awesome to work with. He was very responsive and helpful during the planning stages, and he also attended the entire event and personally guided our guests around the different food pairings. I asked him particularly to help one of our guests with Celiac' s navigate the food table, and he so very kindly helped her thoroughly go through every item we were offering to find the selections she could safely eat. I am based in Atlanta and our party in Austin was just a one-off event, or else I'd probably use Neil again in the future if I found another outlet for German food. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to do a similar kind of event!

Yelp
Awesome wings. Yum sandwiches. Loved the pickled veggies. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Chicken "sneitzelwich" was seriously overdone but I'm too passive to complain. The pretzel and dips is delicious though.

M G.

Yelp
Excellent customer service! I showed up exactly at 7pm and he took my order very friendly, food was still fresh & hot. I love having this option at the brewery.

Patty K.

Yelp
Perfect companion for cold German brews. Great service, delicious food, and unique flavors.

Katelynn K.

Yelp
Had the big bark beer brat and it was delicious! Service was great and having the brewery right here too is a win! The brewery and food truck is really easy to find, laid back atmosphere with majority outside seating with fireplaces and even disc golf. Dogs allowed outside.

Robert M.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Tasty too. No hesitation returning Had the brat on a bun. Spicy brown mustard and crunchy pickles. Perfect combo with a beer
google avatar

Mike A.

Yelp
The food here goes perfectly with German beer and I have had it countless times. The schnitzlewitch is filling and has a pretzel bun and ha pickled cabbage on top. Sometimes they overcook slightly..or perhaps the fryer oil is not fresh..but it appears overdone..but not always so try this tasty dish out. You also can't go wrong with their carblicious soft hot pretzels. They typically come with cheese dip and quality mustard. Of course they also have good brats on a pretzel bun, with pickled cabbage. All in all a match made in heaven with Live Oak beers. I am taking off a star for the notably unfriendly lady that sometimes makes the food. If that doesn't bother you, then dig right in. Cheers!

Yelp
This place is an awesome find for some delicious German food. I would recommend the schnitzel sandwich. On par with food I have had a nice German restaurants. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a place to eat near the Austin airport.

Yelp
best pretzel I have ever had. Hot and fresh. cheese beer sauce was the bomb too!!!

Caitlin S.

Yelp
Disappointing experience at the Black Forest. We were looking forward to trying this food truck because we had heard good things, but don't plan to be back. My husband ordered a brat, which he described as lukewarm temperature and seemed pre-cooked. My pretzel was fine. The experience was not good at all - the truck attendant seemed annoyed with us when we walked up and tried to hurry us away. We love the brewery but next time will plan to eat before or after.

Charles M.

Yelp
I travel to Germany a couple times each month and I have to say this was some of the worst German food I have ever had. I might be on the verge of a heart attack with all the salt in the pickled vegetables and on the pretzel. They might say German inspired cuisine but I think it's more German misguided. To summarize "scheisse"!

G G.

Yelp
Come for the Pretzel, and take a few home. I had the pretzel with the homemade sauce.. and now I regret not buying one to take home. I hate to drive all the way out there to get just one pretzel, but as I'm sitting here, I'm thinking I'm gonna have to do it. The food I ordered was on point, but man.. THE PRETZEL was AMAZING

Roxanne R.

Yelp
This schnitzel is the best in Austin! Crispy crust and tender, delicious meat inside. The pickled sides have the perfect mouth feel - snappy and crunchy, and just a tiny bit spicy. And a visit to The Black Forest just isn't complete without a pretzel or two! SO GOOD!

Ken L.

Yelp
Very good German style food served by nice folks. from a food truck next to the Live Oak Brewing beer garden. The beer garden is vast with plenty of room for social distancing while you enjoy your food. Of course, wash it down with one of Live Oak's wonderful German styled beers.

Drew S.

Yelp
I love this food truck next to the Live Oak Brewery. In addition to their tasty German fare they offer special dishes that are something you would expect in a high end restaurant. I recently had the fried quail leg plate with an ancho-tamarind sauce along with assorted pickles, celery sticks and a blue cheese sauce. Whenever I go to Live Oak I have to go get something here.
google avatar

Sierra B.

Yelp
Large party, ordered one of everything. The ribs and schnitzel were especially good. Great find near airport hotels. Wish we had more time to stay and enjoy the brewery, too.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
Best pretzel in Austin! We loved bringing our dogs out to the brewery and enjoyed the delicious pretzel and beer cheese to accompany our drinks!
google avatar

Steve F.

Yelp
Had their Live Oak Big Bark Brat sandwich. Very good and we'll be having this again when we visit Live Oak Brewery.

Cory M.

Yelp
The food here is really delicious. The schnitzelwich and beer brat are amazing. You should definitely grab a bite to eat!

Kevin O.

Yelp
I had the brat with mustard and pickled veggies. It was awesome and a fantastic compliment to the Tasty brews at Live Oak Brewing Co.
google avatar

Nathan B.

Yelp
I am originally from Wisconsin, where bratwurst is one of the food groups and occupies its own section in the grocery stores. My wife and I have also been to Germany twice, where I have eaten the famed Thuringian bratwurst in Eisenach and Leipzig, and have also had bratwurst at social events in the Ore Mountains south of Dresden, where it was simply made and served, not sold. I am here to tell y'all: I have had many delicious brats, but not one of them has topped The Black Forest's Big Bark Beer Brat. The key is the bun. I asked Mr. Joiner about it and he said he wanted something to match Germany's Brötchen (which I didn't think was possible in the U.S.A.), and he didn't stop searching until he found a bakery that did it right--crispy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. The genuine mustard and red kraut is also a unique and delicious touch. Coupled with your favorite tap beer from Live Oak...it truly doesn't get any better than this. Hats off to you, sir; your food truck is a pearl of Austin and a paragon of German cuisine, and the effort and pride you put into your craft does not go unnoticed.
