The Black Sheep Hostel

I looked up this hostel before leaving the UK and for me it’s way ahead of its competition in Medellin. The first thing that struck me was how clean the place was and how tastefully it had been decorated. You can tell that only a backpacker could design a hostel in such a way & it’s my understanding that this was what its owner Kelvin was in the past. It would be no exaggeration to say that it’s more like a boutique hotel than a hostel. Every single member of staff from the cleaners to the reception staff are absolutely amazing and cannot do enough to make you welcome. Suffice to say that it’s one of those places where you can almost get too comfortable and I stayed a week rather than 2-3 nights. The location is perfect. It’s in a wonderful district and I didn’t have any issues whatsoever regarding personal safety. I really loved this place and was, in a way sad to leave but I really hope to be back one day. Thankyou all so much again.

One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at. Such a great vibe, everyone is so friendly and the table brings everyone together most of the staff are so incredibly friendly and helpful. My only complaint would be this one girl that usually works reception in the evening, she appeared unhelpful and like she didn’t even enjoy interacting with people. She makes everyone wait ages to open and close the gate and rolls her eyes if you ring the bell more than once. Other than that, this is my second time at the hostel and I couldn’t recommend it enough, the staff, the facilities and the vibes are great! Also the wifi is stable and you don’t need a private room to be able to work online, couldn’t recommend this hostel enough, thank you for everything!

The positive aspects of this hostel are the location and the friendly staff, but besides that my experience was not nice at all. Maybe I was unlucky, but I was in a dorm only with guys constantly smoking weed and being very loud until late. I feel however that this is the general vibe of the hostel, full of Americans and English people there just to party, get drunk and high. Not judging, but be aware that this is what you will find there. Moreover the reception made a mistake and did not reserve me an additional night. They told me at 3 in the morning, and did not really do anything to find a solution, such giving me a private room or booking another hostel for me, or giving me a discount. Mistakes can happen, but then you have to be professional and solve them. Not expect the customer to solve them.

Excellent position, scrupulously clean, friendly and with a great vibe. Laundry dropped off at nine and ready by two. Quiet location, ten minutes walk from the nearest Metro station.

One of the best hostels I’ve stayed at ! Great location with some great restaurants nearby and walking distance from the metro. Overall very clean with various spaces to chill. The staff are all amazing ! (Very helpful and friendly). The kitchen facilities are good aswell !

I enjoyed my stay at the Black Sheep Hostel. It's 10 minutes away walking from everything in every direction. It's about 10 minutes from the metro station, from El Poblado neighborhood, from the mall, etc. It's very social and the set up for the hostel encourages people to talk to each other. I easily met people my first night here and while cooking in the kitchen. The staff were extremely friendly as well. Laundry was a fair price and one of the cheaper laundry services I've found in Colombia. I traveled with my boyfriend and we got lucky because they gave us a private room for the price of the dorm bookings.

Decent hostel in El Poblado neighborhood in Medellin, where you’ll do most things in your trip. There’s a supermarket walking distance and the metro station is close by too.

Had an amazing stay at this hostel! It is so clean, comfortable, and the vibes are great. It is in a great, walkable location and I felt very safe here. Everyone is so friendly and it is a great place to get to know other travelers especially if you are solo! Will definitely be returning here!
