Atmosphere and service is 100%! We had Sarah as our waitress and she was so pleasant! She frequently checked on us without being over barring and had good recommendations of the menu. The trout & scallops were amazing. The special 8oz Chimichurri steak was good too. We also got the brie salad and I appreciate that they had a mocktail menu.

Natasha

Google
The food was absolutely delicious—such a great experience discovering new flavors. I love that they use locally sourced ingredients; you can really taste the quality and care in every dish. The service was excellent as well, very attentive and welcoming. I would definitely come back and highly recommend it

Google
Incredible "snacks" we got the cornbread. Risotto was cooked perfectly. Sensible portion sizes meant no left overs or wasted food. Waitress so amiable and helpful. Drinks were delicious.

Google
Smoked pork chops were SO good! Also their duck breasts are delicious. Highly, highly recommend this place. Best food we had whike visiting Asheville.

Google
Delicious WNC trout&scallops risotto and fresh catch (red snapper for that day). Friendly and prompt service. Great ambiance. Interesting flavors for mocktails. Overall, very pleasant and satisfying experience.

Google
Loved having the local sources on the menu. The flavor combinations were wonderful; the warm fruit brie salad was phenomenal. Can tell it is fresh and deliberate ingredients.

Google
Fantastic Vibes. Great location. Fresh Food. Had the trout w/scallops and risotto. Reese recommended the coconut cake for dessert. Real coconut cake. So good. Definitely worth a visit!

Google
We had dinner at The Blackbird Restaurant, and it was an overall lovely experience with a few highs and a miss. I ordered the truffle mushroom risotto, which was just okay—not bad by any means, but not something I’d personally order again. That said, my daughter had the trout and scallops, and that was a total standout. We also ordered dessert, and it was delicious. The handcrafted ice cream in particular was a real highlight. The service and atmosphere were great, and I’d would come back. Solid spot with some true gems on the menu.

Yelp
Came in today for the thanksgiving Dinner with my family. It was one of the best thanksgiving meals that I have had in a long time every course was outstanding. The turkey was so moist and flavorful along with the stuffing, mashed potatoes and beans hats off to all involved.

Yelp
Went to the Blackbird for brunch. Started with a coffee that wasn't bad and for my main, I decided on the Corned Beef Hash. It arrived looking amazing. The portion size was very good. The corned beef was well seasoned and the potatoes, peppers and onions were well cooked. The only drawback was the glaze. It took over the meal at various points so next time I will do the glaze on the side. The service was very good. No complaints there. Good experience overall.

Yelp
We had plans to go to another restaurant up the street for brunch; however, found parking right outside of Blackbird. Curiously, my husband looked up their menu just to check it out and it took about two seconds of looking to sell us on changing our brunch plans! And I'm so glad we did! This is certainly an elevated brunch spot, so, although there were plenty of people dressed "down," we still felt a little under dressed. Our server was wonderful (I wish I would have gotten his name). I love that they serve French press coffee, I am a sucker for some good tasting strong coffee! We ordered the shrimp and grits and turkey sandwich. About 40 minutes went by without food and me noticing others who came in after us getting served before us. We are pretty patient people so we just rode it out. Our server came over with a plate of steak and eggs and apologized that there was a mix up in the kitchen and wanted to offer us a free snack while we waited. The steak was great and we appreciated the gesture! My sandwich was phenomenal. It had turkey, warm Brie, and a cranberry mayo. My husband's shrimp snd grits stole the show, though! The sauce was the best tasting creole sauce I've ever had! We will certainly be back and highly recommend!

Yelp
My wife and I ate here last night (12/1) as we're in town for a few days. The good: Appetizer (scallops) was really good. Main courses were mostly good...I had the pork chop which was quite tasty. Good accommodation for food sensitivity - dairy and gluten. The less good: My wife had the trout and scallop. The scallops served with dinner were very undercooked (we are from Virginia and have scallops all the time). Sent them back and when remade were excellent. The disappointing: Service. The restaurant wasn't busy, less than 1/3 full. Our server was also the bartender, but no one checked on us after the food was served, no drink refills. I had to walk up to the bar to get more drinks. My wife couldn't send back the scallops until the server wanted to clear her plate - just made for an overall disappointing experience.

Yelp
A Must-Try Gem in Asheville - Black Bird Restaurant Food: I didn't expect to be ruined for life by corned beef hash, but here we are. I ordered the Corned Beef Hash with eggs cooked medium, and it was absolutely exceptional. You can tell they make the corned beef in-house -- perfectly seasoned, tender, and paired with a hint of mustard that adds just the right amount of heat. The potatoes were cooked to perfection: crispy on the outside, soft and buttery inside. Honestly, I'm not sure I can enjoy corned beef hash anywhere else after this. We also ordered the beignets and the goat cheese omelet, both incredibly fresh and made with ingredients that were clearly at their peak. Every bite tasted intentional -- ripe, balanced, and delicious. Service: Our server, Jacob, made the experience even better. He was genuinely warm, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever hovering. The hostess who greeted us set the tone from the moment we walked in -- friendly, welcoming, and professional. We had originally planned to eat across the street at Chestnut, but the atmosphere there felt cold and uninviting. I'm so glad we followed our instincts and came to Black Bird instead -- it was the total opposite: warm energy, great service, and food that honestly overdelivers. Ambiance: The ambiance was lovely -- music at the perfect volume, comfortable seating, and an overall vibe that makes you want to linger. Price: Prices were super fair for the quality and portion sizes. If you're in Asheville, don't miss this place. Great food, great people, great energy -- it's the kind of spot that turns a meal into a memory.

Yelp
Best meal my wife and I have ever had! Katherine gave great service, too. Get reservation and go here!

Yelp
Very nice staff, nice space and decent prices. I got the shrimp and grits and they were supper filling.

Yelp
1-Star Review - first time in 11 years giving a one star when using Yelp. I was disappointed with our Thanksgiving dinner for 4 at Blackbird. I've eaten there before and always thought the food was decent, and several friends had recommended it. However, this experience was a major letdown. The Thanksgiving plate arrived cold, and the gravy was splashed everywhere. The stuffing was soggy, the green beans even had gravy on them. We sent it back, explaining the food was cold, and it came out again just as cold. It was inedible. For a place with a good reputation, this was surprising and really unfortunate for a holiday meal. I hope this was just an off night, but it left a very bad impression.

Yelp
We have walked by this restaurant several times and have always seen it busy, so we decided to check it out when my parents were in town. My dad likes a steak, and I'm a vegetarian. This restaurant was perfect for us both! I was very impressed with the vegetarian section on the menu. I ordered the beet and zucchini stack as an appetizer and the goat cheese corn pie as an entree. The beet and zucchini stack was a fresh take on a typical beet salad, especially as a stack. I liked that it had the crunch from the nuts and some cheese on top. I loved the goat cheese corn pie, though. It was warm and very filling! It was very creative with the mushrooms and kale to dress up the pie, which felt more like a shepherd's pie-type of pie than the quiche-style pie I was expecting. What a great dish! The service was friendly and patient. I am happy the waiter recommended my entree dish from the veggie selection. I also really liked the decor, especially the outlines of birds on the walls. I would definitely come back here again!

Yelp
Had a fantastic wagyu hash breakfast bowl here. PERFECT for a morning after meal. If you prefer something on the lighter side, then the fattiness of the wagyu may not be for you. For us, it was hearty and delicious! The potatoes soaked up all of the fat and added to the heartiness of the bowl.

Christine A.

Yelp
The hostess was so nice and friendly. Walker provided amazing service. He had great recommendations too. The food is so fresh and delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast and our experience sitting on the patio. I highly recommend this friendly staff and amazing chef! Right from the start with the friendly hostess this place had 5 stars for me.

Yelp
You should come here if you like dehydrated leftovers. My eggs Benedict was awful. I came here visiting from Florida and saw that this restaurant was highly rated for breakfast. But, it did not measure up to expectations. I got the eggs Benedict trio. One with pork, one with a crab cake, and the last one vegetarian (Greek). The pork was like a rock on the edges, which is absolutely from being recooked. The crab cake was just awful. It seemed the same like something that had been cooked more than once. Crab cakes im used to are soft and moist in the middle. This one was dry and hard throughout. The greek style vegetarian one was by far the best one, which is the one I didn't even want. The corned beef hash was dry. The mustard served with it was VERY strong. It was okay, but the dish was mostly potato, which they try to hide by slapping an egg on top. This experience was wildly disappointing. Our server was very good and attentive. The staff were all very helpful and kind. The ambiance was okay.

Yelp
Parking is a nightmare - just be prepared to drive around till something opens up and hone up on your parallel parking skills. Wait staff was better than average. Food was good. I had the stuff flounder - baked. It could have been cooked a tad more. My friend has the tenderloin- she ordered medium - not red. Hers was VERY rare. Restaurant is loud and in the entertainment district. If you're looking for a nice quiet place - keep looking. But food was decent. Apparently this place is popular with locals. Reservations are suggested BC it was crowded.

Yelp
The service was super nice and helpful. The restaurant is a cool mix of old bar and modern diner. The food was average. The grits which I came for had a good flavor and consistency, yet it contained corn kernels. The eggs were scrambled to a good texture. The biscuit was super hard on the bottom. The weirdest thing was the condiments were not brought to the table .. I had to ask for butter, salt, sugar, and pepper. I will be back because I think this place has potential. We'll try again.

Yelp
Some of the most delicious biscuits I've ever tasted! We stopped in for brunch while visiting Asheville. I had the shrimp and grits, which had such a flavorful broth. I ended up stealing the biscuit that came with my husband's omelet because it was so, so good dipped in the shrimp, tomato and sausage broth. Hubby had the goat cheese omelet, and loved that as well. Portions were very sizeable. Located in downtown Asheville, would definitely recommend this spot!
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
We went here last night and tried a bunch of delicious things. Apparently there's a new "chef's snack" every night. Last night we had this amazing beet/potato croquette situation. My mom had the most incredible melt in your mouth tenderloin, my stepdad got some amazing salmon, and I got some duck breast. All were excellent. So was the peach pecan pie dessert that we got. Service was great too. I'm surprised this place has a 3.8--- we were all so happy with the food.
google avatar

Bob D.

Yelp
Awesome experience. Funky joint in downtown Asheville. Wonderfully charming waitstaff. Excellent menu. Stop by next time in Asheville! Best corned beef hash in WNC, loved the honey mustard maple glaze add! Best soundtrack as background music. Exceptional experience.

Yelp
We ate at Blackbird for brunch today. It's a cute restaurant. The bartender was really friendly and attentive. For food, I ordered the rice bowl with braised beef. The serving is massive! I loved the variety of veggies and the braised beef was really flavorful. My husband ordered the fried chicken with biscuits and gravy. It was excellent as well. We both ordered bloody Mary's, which came with all the goodies0". Bacon, celery, jalapeño, cheese stuffed olive, and chicharron. Yum!
google avatar

Audrey H.

Yelp
I had brunch at the Blackbird and overall enjoyed the experience. My group and I started by sharing the beignets, which were light and not too sweet. I had the braised eggs benedict on a biscuit, which I liked, but it was missing a bit of flavor or possibly salt. My husband's shrimp and grits were the star of the meal. My mom's egg BLT was good, just fairly basic. A few tables that ordered after us got their food long before us, and the meal took quite a while, but our server was extremely apologetic and kind, and he informed us that they were understaffed that day. I'd like to try their dinner sometime.
google avatar

Shannon W.

Yelp
The food quality for brunch was great. We really enjoyed both dishes we got (omelet and fried chicken biscuits and gravy.) The service was subpar. It took 10-15 minutes for anyone to actually come to our table to greet us. The turn around time for food to come out of the kitchen was abnormally slow. Asheville is one of our favorite places for a weekend trip and we've spent a ton of time here over the years and visited many local restaurants. The Blackbird would get a much higher rating from us if the service was better in the future.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
This place was GREAT! The menu was unique and even cited all of the local farms / vendors utlized in their dishes. Our server, Jill, was extremely friendly and helpful, and checked on us * just * enough - yall know what I mean. The food was phenomenal and the ambiance, lovely. Highly recommend!

Donna W.

Yelp
I highly recommend The Blackbird in downtown Asheville. It was fabulous! David got the braised beef, I got the trout with harissa. We shared the crispy Brussel sprouts with goat cheese and pine nuts. Jade, our waitress, was fabulous! David proposed marriage to her right here at the table. And then he told her we'd name our first child after her. The dinner was amazing. After dinner, David wanted the coconut custard cake, and I pointed out that they didn't have any gluten-free desserts. She went into the kitchen, returned, and told David that they had one piece of cake left and she would make sure he got it. She told me that they had a secret gluten-free carrot cake! She brought that out to me. It was absolutely delicious! What an incredible find! We will definitely come back to The Blackbird when we are in Asheville! If you haven't been, you should definitely come.

Yelp
One of the BEST meals I have eaten in a long time. We started with the olive bread and its perfectly baked crust and hints of Kalamata olives. The beet & shaved zucchini salad had my taste buds dancing especially with the perfect balance of pecans and crispy bacon. My main course was the mussels also perfectly cooked with a broth I could drink. Speaking of drinks, my mocktail was the best. A very clever blend of sparkling water, basil & a slight hint of rosemary that I will try desperately to replicate at home. Service was impeccable and super friendly. I STRONGLY recommend Blackbird for its cozy yet upscale atmosphere, charming service and EXCELLENT food!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent meal. Braised beef, Brussels sprouts and creamed parsnips. The "on the spot " cocktail was great. Coconut cream cake was delicious. Our server/ bartender Sean was a great guy. Visiting from Boston, he gave us information of things to do in the area

Yelp
You want a true farm to table fine dining experience in downtown Asheville? You got it right here! Unbelievably friendly service throughout the whole evening, from our main server to the helpers who brought the food, down to the bartender and owner who checked on us throughout the evening. My wife and I chose the 6 course tasting menu since we haven't been here before and wanted to experience what the chef had in store for the evening. The 6 course dinner, including a palate cleanser in between costs $65. Less than $10 per course if you include the palate cleanser. What an unbelievably great price for what we you get in this fine dining establishment. Every course was outstanding. First two started off with a tasty shrimp bisque followed by fresh roasted mushrooms with the most amazing celery root puree. Next came the 2 seafood courses, the melt in your mouth scallop gratin followed by a perfectly cooked mountain trout with red rice salad. The braised beef for our 5th course didn't need a knife, it was that tender. We finished off with a decadent truffle medley for dessert. Each and every course had depth to flavor and portioned perfectly so you were completely satiated by the evening's end. Highly recommend both the tasting menu and the regular menu for a great downtown Asheville fine dining experience. This chef can cook!

Yelp
Great brunch spot and our avocado toast was delicious! My pineapple mimosa hit the spot. We asked to sit by the front window that was open, and were told no. But no one sat there the whole time (weird!) It was a little loud, as the ceilings are high and open. But overall we were pleased. This was easy to get into through Open Table.
google avatar

Eileen B.

Yelp
Went here for brunch on our last day in Asheville. The space is decorated like spring I loved my Bloody Mary and Toad in a hole with avocado and pico de gallo. It was so well seasoned. My friend got the turkey with Brie. She said it was too smoky but did enjoy it.

Dawn P.

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere and a great place to stop by for a quick drink. Food? Who knows? I ordered a sandwich, no mayo, no side, glass of water. What I got 47 minutes later when it wasn't busy? A sandwich with mayo, a side, and no water. Hmmmm...not sure what was up with that...when I mentioned it to waiter...no apology...I asked for bill...got it, paid it, no other comment from waiter. Not sure what alternative universe I walked into...glad rest of Asheville has much better service.
google avatar

Allie W.

Yelp
One of the best brunches I had in a while! Everything was so good and our entire table loved it. Got the Irish coffee and the grapefruit mimosa - both were delicious. For my entree I got the goat cheese omelette with GF toast and it was amazing! Bacon and grits that came with it were so good as well. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Jody P.

Yelp
Brunch at Blackbird over the Christmas holiday. Something was off!! The place was almost empty, and the service was still horrendously slow. From the moment we walked in, it felt like we were a bother to the staff. For the culinary options we have available in Asheville, Blackbird is mediocre at best. Nothing special to the Brunch options; maybe dinner is better????
google avatar

Leah C.

Yelp
The food here was good, solid food for brunch but nothing extraordinary. We enjoyed our meals and the staff was mostly attentive and helpful. I would have liked something "different" from them but it is what it is. I enjoy the dinner here a bit more as they are more experimental and fun with the dinner. I still recommend The blackbird to anyone who wants a good meal without the fuss. The Bloody Mary was excellent!
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Modern, chic, light interior. We tried the Chef's tasting menu with wine pairing, and it was very good, but the timing was off; the courses didn't flow, because there was too much time between them. This is the hallmark of a chef, if you can't do it right, take it off the menu. The substituted heirloom tomato gazpacho was really good and perfect for the weather, paired with a Pinot Grigiot. This was followed by grilled mushrooms, lots of flavor, but tough., still paired well with a Ken Wright Pinot Noir. The scallop was excellent and paired with a Chablis. The trout was also very good, but the accompanying red rice was undercooked. The braised beef and grits was okay; it should have been more tender.

Yelp
Award-winning food, desserts, drinks & service. Seating available at the bar or dining areas for singles, couples or groups. Brunch or Dinner Services. Fresh, Delicious & Unique Food & Deserts. Craft Beer & Extensive Wine List. I had the smoked pork chop with sweet potato, toasted pepita's, fennel, tomato with peach, maple vinaigrette glaze is exceptional. My wife had the roasted chicken & jalapeno & cheddar sausage served with squash & roasted potatoes. A bottle of white wine complemented our entrees. We shared bourbon soaked chocolate cake topped with bing cherry cream & vanilla ice cream. Fresh brewed french roast coffee complemented our dessert. Awards aside, My wife & I love the exceptional fresh food presentations & tastes in an atmosphere with attentive friendly service. Thanks to Chef Michael & Mark our Waiter. Mustang USMC Retired

Yelp
Probably the worst sandwich I ever had. I got the Brisket which was really 1 week old overcooked dry ingles roast beef. It came with greasy fries. It was a Friday at 1 pm 70 degrees out and there were 7 people in the entire restaurant. There were 14 empty tables. My wife got the smelly crab cakes. We did not send the food back . We took one bite. I paid the bill and they ask us for a container for the rest of our food but I wouldn't even give it to my dog

Devvi S.

Yelp
Since my first review was misplaced I will try again. We had lunch at Blackbird last week. We ordered two Cobb salads with shrimp. We received two salads with so much vinegar that it was truly hard to eat. One shrimp each, stale bacon and onions with again a lot of vinegar. They brought out additional shrimp after we inquired about the amount. It was a truly a dismal lunch. It is not easy to mess up Cobb Salad. We won't ever go back. The waitress was pleasant.

Yelp
This shit was bussing I highly recommend this place if you are ever in Asheville just go and see for yourself my review or picture don't say enough just head there
google avatar

Yelp
We had brunch here today and I wanted so much to be blown away and sadly I just wasn't. It was good, just not I can't wait to go back good. I had the Eggs Benedict and subbed bacon for the braised pork, the eggs were done perfectly and delicious. The bacon was undercooked, the hollandaise sauce was ok, the biscuit was a huge disappointment, it was cold, very dense, not at all what I was expecting. The grits however were the show stopper, excellent. The jam was delicious. Maybe it was an off day. Server was great however. My friends had the bacon, eggs and biscuits and felt the same way about their food just a little underwhelmed. Great concept, great location, just a little more attention to detail.
google avatar

Judy M.

Yelp
Excellent service, delicious food. The goat cheese omelette was superb. The bacon was crispy and perfectly salty , the biscuit was melt in your mouth buttery and a single mimosa started a tingle in my fingertips. Our server was cute, polite and very informative. Outstanding!
google avatar

Luisa H.

Yelp
My son brought me to the Blackbird Restaurant to celebrate my birthday with a lovely brunch! It was a long drive from Greenville, but so worth it! The food was delicious! And the service was excellent!
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
We originally found this restaurant on Yelp due to its great reviews and they are spot on! We made reservations for a Saturday night and got seated right away. The server was very nice and provided a great experience. I ordered the Trout and Scallops which came with a vegetable risotto. The Trout and Scallops were delicious. I particularly loved the scallops as they were cooked perfectly! The vegetable risotto needed some assistance as it tasted like rice with mini veggies. Luckily it didn't ruin the dish too much but could've been better. The sun dried tomatoes on top of the Trout was a nice touch. I'd definitely recommend giving this restaurant a try!

Justin W.

Yelp
Service was slow and we felt like being there was an inconvenience to the staff. We were given one menu to share. That was cool. Brunch cocktails were cheaply pre made and terribly slopped together for the price. Seek a better experience elsewhere.

Kaitlin J.

Yelp
My husband and I had a phenomenal meal at The Blackbird. We absolutely loved the Brussels sprouts and bone marrow starters, I really enjoyed my trout and scallop risotto and my husband loved his duck dish! The service was top notch and everything was so yummy! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Hannah K.

Yelp
Juicy pork chop with untrimmed string beans and canned peach "salad" The best part was the pork chop, as it should be. But it would have been better if the side dishes complimented the pork chop. Canned peaches give it that syrupy flavor.

Christy P.

Yelp
The food was mediocre. Service was slow however a beautiful room and building with parking in close proximity

Yelp
I was jonesing for a tasting menu but couldn't find the right reservations in Asheville. So I settled on Blackbird and was so pleased to find they had a tasting menu! Had a lovely night at the bar, and recommend adding a cheese or two before starting the tasting, they had great local choices and rounded out the amount of food.

Bryan M.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about Blackbird. My wife and I ate there 4 years ago and she had the most incredible chicken sandwich with pimento cheese. She has been raving about it since. We had a trip planned to Asheville and were deciding dining options, when I noticed it was not on their menu. I reached out the restaurant and the owner/chef, Michael Reppert, responded promptly that they no longer offer the sandwich but he would make it for us. We came in and Nicole waited on us. She was great. Michael and Jacob, who originally made the sandwich four years ago (and is now a server), came out and greeted us. They also came out to make sure it tasted good. We were overwhelmed by the fact that they accommodated us and were so attentive. The sandwich was as good as my wife remembered. In a city of incredible restaurants I would highly recommend Blackbird as a place that cares about their customers and has great food.

Denise H.

Yelp
So if you have read any of my reviews you know most places do not get a 5 on their first review however, there is no doubt in my mind that this place will get 5 stars the next time I visit! Met some friends here for my birthday brunch and we were all coming in from out of town and traffic was a little wonky. I had a reservation but called to let them know we were running late and Heidi said it was no problem. We finally arrived and they had already let one person from our party sit down. (I love it when restaurants do that. Anyway we had a variety of dishes and they were all delicious! Plenty of bar seating and tables. Cute little restaurant downtown.

Yelp
The Blackbird Restaurant is a great New American spot in Asheville with extensive options for vegetarian and vegan folks, as well as with gluten-free options. We had a light-ish dinner here before heading to an event nearby. We had a reservation but it was sparsely populated when we were there (around 5:30 pm on a Wednesday) so we easily could have walked in and been seated immediately. It's a cool comfortable atmosphere to be in and we had plenty to choose from. (One of us is vegetarian and one is gluten-free.) There's a whole separate "Vegetarian & Vegan" menu on their menu (in addition to plenty for meat and fish eaters). We shared the Warm Fruit & Local Brie from the "Garden" menu (which is separate from the Vegetarian menu and also has options!). You pretty much can't go wrong with that combination so we were happy with the taste and presentation. We also shared the Goat Cheese Corn pie which sounded like it was going to be indulgent but was actually perfect shared between the 2 of us. These were both fine dining vegetarian dishes and, as I've mentioned, there are plenty more of those to choose from. If we lived in Asheville, we'd come back to try them all!

Yelp
This place was fantastic. Celebrated a friend's 50th in Asheville in August and I made reservations here for brunch before we all headed out of town. The staff was lovely and our server, Joseph, was amazing. He was attentive and friendly and took great care of our group of 8. The food was delicious and tasted fresh and was full of flavor. Place was casual but could easily have been great for a fancier meal for brunch or dinner! Homemade biscuits are a must and anything that involves them is a great choice. Would definitely recommend and I would go back when I am back in Asheville.
