Given that they're in a hard-to-reach corner of Gilman Barracks, one would hope that The Blackbird would strive to distinguish itself through the quality of its repast. But if wishes were wings, etc. Nice decor, however. Particularly liked the subwoofer stage.
Liked:
- Blackbird chicken wings. Decent chicken wings, to be sure; came with a Thai chili dip. Nothing special, though.
- Oysters. Actually pretty good. Plump, fresh and briny. Apt, though, that the best item on the menu is the least processed dish of them all.
Ambivalent
- Lobster bisque. Decent, but definitely had a straight-out-of-a can vibe. Thin and salty with a kind of artificial lobster flavor.
Did not like:
- Margherita pizza. Did they get their pies from the frozen section of the grocery store with a CLEARANCE SALE: 90% OFF label stuck to it? Because this was basically that, but worse: the crust was so overbaked that it shattered like one of those crappy Carr's water crackers when I bit into it.
- House spirit pours + tonic/soda. At normal prices, it's tantamount to charging $14 for gin-scented water.
