The Block Gourmet Deli

Best sandwich shop I’ve been to in Louisville! And better yet, it is located near the entrance to The Parklands at Floyds Fork park. I stopped in on my way to do a 20 mile bike ride in the park and ordered the best club sandwich ever. The pictures are at the Brown Forman Silo where at the halfway point of my ride a devoured the sandwich in one of the shelters.

Love this place. And the employees actually recognize me lol. The sandwiches are truly gourmet. Some of the flavors are so unique, and i feel like they were definitely creative when making some of these sandwiches. Sandwiches are one of my favorite food, and this place is top notch in taste and quality.

We stopped off at this sandwich shop on the way home to Columbus after our girlfriend’s trip to Nashville. It was super easy to get to from the beltway, super easy to find, and we couldn’t have been happier with our sandwiches! I got the Muffaletta (pictures) and my friend got the chicken caprese. Both were excellent! I would definitely visit this deli again.

I love a good sandwich and really love chicken salad sandwiches and theirs lived up to the best! Would love to go back and try all their sandwiches because you can tell they're all carefully crafted. Not much space to dine-in, but great for takeout to bring to your picnic or whatever!

What an amazing find! If you're in the Middletown/Fischerville/Beckley Station area, and want a good lunch, this is it. Found this place because I was craving a good deli sandwich, I did t want a sandwich from a chain and I didn't want fast food. Great food, quality ingredients, friendly service. I gotta go back because the whole menu looked delicious and the quality was outstanding. Don't miss out on The Block.

The owners are a 25/10. They alone make this a place I’ll continue to go back to time and time again. The food is mouthwatering. If you ever see they have the vegan veggie soup - get it. Veggie caprese = chefs kiss. We love to stop in and grab some food for the nearby park. I hope they stick around for many many years.

I have gone multiple times and I am always happy. Probably the best deli in the East End. And the guisado is so good.

Finally made it in and got myself a Ruben sandwich and the icy cucumbers as my side. Plain and simple there is no other Ruben in Louisville anymore. Perfect balance between all the ingredients and the rye was top notch. The cucumbers were on the bread and butter side of the spectrum which I usually shy away from but these were wonderful. Cannot wait to go back and try something else. Absolute ray of sunshine working the register giving the best customer service. Yum

I try to stop here when I'm in town because their sandwiches and salads are huge and delicious. Literally have been there 3 or 4 times over the past year and the sweet lady that works the register actually recognized me on my last visit!!! Highly recommend this place.

This place has really good, fresh and tasty sandwiches. My only problem is that took me so long to try them! I wish I would've got the ladies name that helped me. She was so friendly and welcoming. This is a nice clean little deli with large chalkboard menus and open glass displays full of fresh pasta salads and different Boars Head meats. They also have some soups on the menu. We are so lucky to have a sandwich shop like this in Louisville. Much better is the fact that I live so close to it! I highly recommend a visit! My fave so far is the Chicken Caprese. So good! If you ask my husband he'll tell you to get The Block. Tastes vary but one thing remains the same, this place is awesome!

Friendly people and outrageously good portions. Their club sandwich is worth every penny.

The vegetable soup was awful. I don't know how you could mess it up any worse. The pasta salad was overdone pasta and zero flavor. I didn't even bother to try the so slaw. I just threw it out. Never again.

Finally dropped by and found this place to be a good locally owned business that makes a really nice deli sandwich. I was told by a landsman that their homemade corned beef is really good but they were out. I'll try by again.

Absolutely love, and highly recommend, The Block! The staff is super friendly, food is fresh and always top notch! I highly recommend calling and ordering ahead (they get crazy busy at lunch time so call before 11:30!) -- and always look forward to their soups!

used for catering for a pool party and they made my day super easy! Super friendly, super delicious and as an extra touch, the way they pack and present their trays give them a unique touch! We won an auction item supporting The Kids Cancer Alliance that they had donated, so they obviously have a heart for the community as well. Try them out!

Well worth the price. Rueben was great. Thoroughly enjoyed. 1st time visiting and the staff was very friendly, especially for as busy as they were. Look forward to another sandwich.

Wow. That's a lot to say in one word but... Wow. Just left with a delicious cup of their Cajun, Bean and Andouille Sausage soup. Smokey, a little kick, hot, delicious! If it's served your time in, get it. The cup or small size is certainly a significant portion especially if paired with a sandwich or salad.

The service here is pretty good, the owner/worker is very nice. With that said, there was nothing wrong with the food, sliced fresh. The only issue I had was I've been here twice and ordered something different both times. For the value, the sandwiches are just okay. I didn't really find them overly enjoyable or unique enough. For the money, I would have rather had jimmy John's or Jersey mikes. I really want to like this place because of the proximity to where I live, but for the price and quality of the food I cannot routinely go here.

I was out in this area for a meeting and this place popped up in my search for a lunch place. I ordered the Brooklyn, which was listed on the website as a sandwich containing Capicola, Mortadella, Genoa Salami, Pepperoni, Provolone, Olive Salad, Shredded Lettuce, Red Onion, Basil, Vinegar Trio, EVOO on french bread. Well I opened it up once I got to my destination and was pretty sad to see there was no Olive Salad, no basil (unless it was dried) no olive oil that I could detect. The "vinegar trio" is nothing more than a very aggressive balsamic which was applied with a too heavy of a hand and it was all you could taste. Also the online menu has not been updated, it lists this sandwich at $9.50 which is a fair, reasonable price, but once you get inside the price has changed to $11, just FYI. Also, the left side of the shop, I wish they would repurpose those shelving units to either have product for sale (like bread, condiments, maybe dried pasta?) or else get rid of them entirely and just have more seating because it is kind of messy and a waste of space right now. Service was extremely prompt and friendly. Maybe I ordered wrong but I wasn't really wasn't impressed.

I've lived in the area for almost 5 years and had never heard of The Block Gourmet Deli. Recently, I was leaving The Parklands and noticed it, so I stopped in. It's a small space, so definitely better for carry out than dine in. There were 5 or so people ahead of me when I ordered my sandwich, so there was a wait. The staff apologized for the delay, but it was worth it. The sandwich was SO big, and had so much meat in it that I saved 1/2 for leftovers. I can't wait to go back and try something different.

Great food and service - the brooklyn sandwich is the best and they always have great soup selection.

We read about it on Facebook so we knew we had to try it. The shrimp corn chowder is wonderful the sandwiches were great.

Great food, excellent service. This the best deli in this end of town. Huge sandwiches. The Ruben is outstanding. So glad to have this lunch spot and not have drive past the Snyder to get there. Definitely returning soon!!

We drove past this little place today and decided to stop in for lunch. We weren't disappointed! It was a little pricey (it came to $30 after tip for two lunches), but the food was amazing! I got a "half" muffuletta and "small" soup, which both came out larger than they were supposed to, and my husband had a whole "Brooklyn" sandwich and chips. We both had canned soda to drink. The guy at the counter suggested the soup, and he was right - it was full of chunks of beef and lots of different veggies. The olive relish that was on both of our sandwiches was really good, too. It's kind of a "hole in the wall" spot, and only has 4 tables, but it's worth stopping in. We'll definitely be back!

This is my personal favorite favorite favorite place for soup. I highly recommend the guisado. Their Tuscan chicken soup and cabbage roll soup are both delicious as well. They make a wonderful grilled cheese. Always very friendly.

Kudos again to Yelp for helping me find these little gems hidden around my work...and saving me from eating the same boring lunch everyday! The Block is literally...a block....away from my work and I had never seen it before. It is a little hidden, and you can't really see it unless you're driving West on Shelbyville Rd. From the moment I walked in the door the two men working in the deli were so friendly to me! They have a lot of salads and sandwiches you can choose from, as well as a small section that is set up like a convenient store filled with drinks, chips and snacks. I decided to go with the Brooklyn, and it was an Italian dream...Olive oil, salami, turkey, lettuce, red onions....it was soo good!! and so fresh. and they have Zapps!! If you check in on the Yelp app, you can get a free can of Coke or a water. These is an awesome local deli to try on your next lunch break, with wonderful food and service!!

Food was great. Definitely will go back. Homemade deli sandwiches & soups. I got the Cilantro Lime tuna salad which was excellent. Service was excellent. Small neighborhood deli.

I just went today for the first time and I am glad I finally did! The owner and his son were so welcoming and helpful. The food was wonderful and fresh. I look forward to going back again!

Excellent sandwich. Cilantro lime tuna salad on toasted honey oat bread. Hubby had baloney with tomato & lettuce. He also had the east Texas chili. Thick, rich and delicious. It's a small place so I imagine it gets crowded at lunch. We came about 2:00 pm & we were only ones eating in. Others came for pick ups & the service was quick.

I stopped here after shopping at the outlet mall. On a Saturday afternoon, the place was empty. I got the block club sandwich and it was delicious. The sandwich is packed full, so I would recommend eating it either there or a still place. I tried eating it in the car, and it did not go well. If i lived closer to this area, I would definitely come back. If you check in here, there is a free coke or pepsi can.

Fantastic deli. I love getting a grilled cheese sandwich with ham. It's delish. You must come by The Block for lunch. Great food, great people. Buy local!

It's always a pleasant experience when getting food here. Everyone is so friendly, the food is good, and the sandwiches/salads are ginormous. Definitely worth trying!

Whilst their sandwiches are very good, the food is good for pick up only to take it home. We went there under an impression it has an outdoor dining but it only has one small table with two chairs. They do NOT provide napkins. We had to use car rags when we dined outdoors. So, be prepared to bring your own napkins if you plan on dining inside or outdoors.

LIKE WHERE IN THE HECK DID THIS PLACE COME FROM... SANDWICH HEAVEN???? I went today for the first time ever and I'm extremely upset with myself that I haven't been sooner... I mean, I could have been eating this deliciousness everyday!!!! If you haven't been here yet, you are missing out! I had the Block Duo with the Paw Paw sandwich and the cabbage roll soup. It was literally the best deli sandwich I have ever had! I will for sure make this a weekly stop for lunch!!! I'm super excited to try all the things they have because it all looked so good! Pros-Everyrhing of tried has been fresh and bursting with flavor. The chicken salad is the best I've ever tasted. There are usually two to three soups on the menu that are fantastic. The staff is eager to please. Catering is available. Cons-More 'grab and go' would be a plus. The prices per serving for non-Boars Head items are high but oh so tasty. A selection of deli bread by the loaf would be great.

The soup by far was the best thing!!!! When it comes to sandwiches they were your average deli sandwich. If they have it go try the potato chili with pork. So fantastic. The place is small and quaint however if you need a restroom there wasn't one available. They have a couple cute local items for sale in the shop as well. If you go try the soup!!!

The best deli in Louisville. Love their hot sandwiches. Their soups are awesome too. They also sell steaks and deli meat.

It's Yumfest at The Block. What does that mean, you may be thinking? It means this: Boar's Head meats and cheeses, homemade soups, and fresh salads. So good. Their grilled cheese is off the chain, and my favorite soup (in season) is gazpacho. So good. So darn good!!!!!

Maybe we went on an off day? We both lived in the Northeast where deli's are everywhere and they're delicious. We LOVE deli's, we've missed a good deli. We were pumped to see a new deli opened up here, and near our work. Jumped in the car, drove there and peeped the menu. I decided on The Block Club and their black bean and ham soup. I specifically requested two items to be left off the sandwich, twice. Not because I don't like them, but because my body doesn't process them well and I get sick. Waited a very long time for the order to complete. Drive back to work, and behold- both items I twice requested to not include, are included. Again, maybe the inaccuracy and slow speeds are chalked up to an off day (which we all have). Can't say for sure since I have yet to be back since.

I stopped in last night to pick up two of the dry aged ribeye steaks. They were amazing. One of the best steaks I've had. We grilled them with salt and pepper and the result was an extremely tender, juicy steak. I can't wait to try more of their offerings. The salads, soups and pickles all looked great.

Very disappointed in the Block's service this time. I've been before, and although the sandwiches are overpriced, they are normally good. This time around, I ordered the chicken salad sandwich, and it was not good. As you can tell by the picture, there was a tiny scoop of chicken salad (with too many onions). If I am going to pay almost 9 dollars for a sandwich, it should definitely not look like this. I will not be coming back.

We used this company to cater an event for about 90 people. This is a family owned and operated venture and the effort and pride that went into providing us with excellent food and customer service was apparent in every step of the process. They were able to accommodate our requests for delicious entrees that also needed to have vegan and gluten-free options. All of the entrees and sides received high praise from our event participants. As with any planned event, the responsiveness and timing was very important and they delivered exactly what we needed. We certainly will be using this company for future events.

I had the chopped chef salad for 2 days. I am not exaggerating in that 1) it was large enough for 2 people and 2) it was fresh enough that it survived overnight in the fridge. The house made ranch was the perfect accompaniment for what I can only refer to as a meat salad. I'll definitely be back to sample the sandwich offerings.

My question to myself is WHY haven't I eaten here before?? The Block Club Sandwich and homemade macaroni salad was outstanding! Everything was fresh and delicious. The guy that waited on me was friendly and very accommodating to my questions. I see many more trips to try their sandwiches and other items! The cost for the amount of food is super reasonable. I look forward to my next trip - NEXT WEEK!

Awesome deli in the east end! They were great and even put together a couple fruit salads for the kids. I had the Brooklyn (large enough for two people) and the chicken noodle soup, which was some of the best I've had. I'll be back soon to try some their other items. Definitely check this place out. Fresh food and great staff!Come out and support this awesome local business.

To say this place is delish is an understatement! I ordered the Middletown chicken salad, macaroni salad and a bag of Zapps Voodoo chips. Best chicken salad I've ever eaten. Super friendly owner/chef ! My taste buds were alive! I highly recommend stopping in and checking this treasure out

Been here a handful of times and never disappointed. Couldn't decide today so I got to try a sample of the tuna and chicken salad. Both were great but went with the chicken salad. It's legit! Going to keep coming back to try everything else. Such a great place. You guys are killing it!

Have tried all their sandwiches and have not been disappointed once. They're big, flavorful and made fresh. Priced right and made while you wait, which is never very long. Their soups are amazing and a meal all by themselves. All the fast food joints wish their food was this good and their service this friendly. Well done.

Never disappoints! I usually get lunch a couple times a month but today I ordered a few appetizer trays for a dinner party tonight and everything was fresh and fabulous! Love the chicken salad as well as the paprika potato salad. Delish!
