We had an absolutely unique experience with Monday jazz jam session at the Blue room! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming like family; the bartender met us, complete strangers, as her close friends! All people there are friendly and supportive. The music was superb!

Google
What a chill experience, myself and my God-Sister's had a smooth time!!

Our family reserved and enjoyed the free Thursday Jazz At Noon performance by the Earlie Braggs Quartet. It exceeded our expectations. Many thanks again to The Blue Room for giving us such a wonderful memory. One thing we found a bit sad was the sense that the historic 18th Street is in decline. We hope the jazz and rich history of Kansas City will be preserved for a long time.

Google
The Blue Room keeps jazz and music alive. Small quaint venue. The place came alive with J LOVE and her band (5/30/2025). Excellent show if you haven't heard her see is a must see. I have always enjoyed the entertainment at the Blue Room.

Google
A great place to go and jam, but good luck getting to the waitress to actually bring you drinks. Wait it around for quite a bit yesterday in between sessions and ended up just giving up and going home after she refused to bring me a beer after waiting 30+ minutes. The music here though is really good, I really enjoy the Monday night jams.

Google
830pm Friday show is the cheapest and the least crowded; best chance to get a good seat. Brought some friends here recently to introduce them to a little bit of history and some great music.

Google
My Cousin Jaime ; JLove and Her Band performs there. We really did love ❤️ the Blue Room. It was a great atmosphere 👌 and everyone was very nice. Nice setting.

Google
The singers were so innovative and original at the same time with the songs and trails. Sometimes it was so sexual I got full body goosebumps several times. Service was quick and great, make sure you tip them good. 5/5 recommend. WILL. BE. BACK.

Yelp
This place will become a staple for Kansas City. There is no food served but there are restaurants in the area to eat before you go. The floor service for drinks is okay but the drinks were mediocre. The atmosphere is electric no matter what band or artist you see. If you love music this should be one of the venues in your list. Great night watching some of the soulful women singers of Kansas City. J Love & Piaget always a treat!

Yelp
The drinks were pretty weak and watered down. The live music was great. We saw a band called Oasis. The sang some R&B and Blues. The parking is only good if you get there early. Overall, I had an enjoyable experience.

Yelp
This place is literally a part of jazz history. It is now a museum and club. I go there almost every time I go to KC. It does not serve food, but there are a lot of places around that do, and they allow you to bring food in. They have a full bar, and the prices are not bad. The other thing that I appreciate is that children are allowed. I truly feel like this will allow jazz to live on. Now, this place gets packed because it is first come, first serve. Sometimes they have free concerts and when they do have concerts that you have to pay for the prices are very reasonable. If you like jazz, you have to check this place out.

Yelp
Candlelight Jazz, organized by Fever! The show / band was super fun and entertaining. They did a super great job! The venue was okay - a bit crammed for the amount of people, getting drinks took a long time with such a small bar space. But I'm glad they had it! Also, there were candles everywhere, but we were pretty confused as to why they didn't turn off the other lighting in the room once the show started...? Why advertise it as a candlelight show if the other lights were kept on? We were kind of bummed about t They did ask us to leave about 10 minutes after the show was over. We were having fun chatting with the folks we met! Like minds (with good taste in music) think alike! It's fun to meet other Jazz lovers.

Yelp
All they need is food ! Wonderful service and the music , the artist and band were amazing. We came to Kansas for the NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers).

Yelp
Love the live music and ambiance of The Blue Room! It's such a diverse experience and I totally enjoy it....

Yelp
Visited the Jazz museum on Saturday March 18th and saw there was going to be a live Jazz show later that night at the Blue Room. Decided to go for something to do and so glad we did. The Blue Room is a great place to see a live Jazz. We saw Bryan Alford Experience featuring Misha Roberts the music was great and we really enjoyed our time. If you are in Kansas City and there is a live show at the Blue Room I highly recommend.

Yelp
The Blue Room was the highlight of our trip to Kansas City! Everything was amazing ! From the warm, welcoming, and exceptional staff to the extremely talented musicians and the most magical ambiance, it is a place you MUST go while in Kansas City. The band shut down the house, it was one of the best live jazz performances I have ever seen! Andre at the Blue Room is a gem and took care of us like we were old friends! It is a 10/10 experience, make sure you go!
google avatar

Yelp
The Blue Room is a nice laid back establishment that you can listen to live music. The drinks aren't craft cocktails, but they are strong. The vibe is for a more mature crowd, which sometimes is exactly what the Dr. ordered.
google avatar

Just S.

Yelp
Was there strictly for drinks & music with my wife & her friends who were also in town. Music did not disappoint & we had a wonderful date night with really good live music.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to come. Loved it. Wished it was open longer with live jazz. I'm bummed I wasn't in town long enough to enjoy all the black history months acts.

Sonia R.

Yelp
The place is small but seating is comfortable, but too bright for a jazz club. The music was really good on the 26th, loved it. The place offers no food at all, not even pretzels or chips, so make sure you don't come hungry. They also have no drink menus. No list of wines, cocktails or anything. So know what you like to drink before you get here. I would not come back. The waitress came by our table, took drink order and brought our drinks out and we did not see her again until we closed our one drink tab.

Yelp
I wandered upon the little gem when arriving early for a yelp elite event. The ambiance inside is a fun nostalgic vibe that blends well in the 18th and Vine area. The staff was friendly, the service fast and the pours generous! At the time, an event was going on, the Prospect Ave business development group so it was rather crowded and loud . Live jazz music makes this a must stop when exploring all 18 th and Vine has to offer

Yelp
I can't ever say a bad word about live jazz! There is NOTHING wrong with this aspect of Blue Room. The wonderful band that played held our attention was truly showed off the talent of those playing. I wasn't a huge fan of the inside of this joint. It was a little plain and kind of reminded me of a sports bar in layout. The drinks we ordered were far too strong. I normally wouldn't be upset about this...but they just weren't very good and our waitress didn't seem to interested in helping us out. I would go back for the music for sure, but it isn't a top priority at the moment!

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday evening to get drinks and listen to some music. It was a pretty nice place I love the ambience and all the history posted and used to decorate the place. I had not been here since I was a child in a school field trip. It hasn't changed much. The drinks were reasonable priced and pretty strong. It was open mic so we got to listen to various local artists which is always nice to see and hear some of the local artist. I will definitely go back to check it out again.

Yelp
I might have lived in this area for a long time without visiting the Blue Room but my jazz loving brother came to town and "forced" me to go with him. Thanks, Brother, for introducing me to such a great venue and experience. We arrived early for a jazz concert advertised on the website of the American Jazz Museum. Parking was easy and free, right across the street from the site. We got there early and had our choice of tables very near the stage. We definitely heard some very good jazz from the featured group, consisting of a drummer, pianist, and bass player. After they played a set, it was open mic night. I wondered if we'd have to sit through some very amateur and awful songs but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of acts that came up to perform. What truly made me happy was seeing a group of high school age boys come up and do a fabulous job playing jazz on the trumpet and sax. A few vocalist were also very credible. The venue is very small and intimate. There is a feeling of good friends coming together as regulars and newcomers mix among the musicians. The woman who served us drinks was proficient and gracious. I do wish they served even a very light food menu, as I don't drink. This is a place I will definitely return to and I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys jazz. Or anyone who just wants to have a pleasant evening.

Yelp
I came in on a Monday. Probably a bad time to try a new Jazz club. They had a rag tag group of white kids playing on the stage. Honestly, it seemed as though this was their first time holding their instruments. They let their house band close the show which was an incredible relief for my eardrums. Service was terrible. Slow, cold, and the bartender seemed very inconvenienced. I got a vodka in sprite that ended up being $9 for a 6oz rock glass overflowing with ice. I wouldn't recommend this place when there are so many others worth trying in the area.

Yelp
Incredible place!! Went for the first time last night and the jazz band / singer were incredible. I had no idea the Blue Room would have all the history hung up on the walls and in cases. It was really quite interesting. A quaint little place that is perfect for a cozy evening. There isn't much decor and the set up is odd but they made the space work. My only qualm was that our waitress seemed a little rude. She didn't speak much and when she did it seemed like a chore to talk to us? It also seemed like she was trying to get us our or make sure we didn't run off before paying. (Which obviously we weren't going to do) I don't want to put her in blast because she may have just been having a bad day. Anyways. The drinks are reasonable price and there is a $10 cover charge after a certain point. Definitely a place to check out!!!

Yelp
Lovely night club with fabulous jazz. Iconic. Walls and tables decorated with history which makes it that much more special. Strong drinks and fantastic waitresses. Great sound, at least from where we were sitting. Not all venues do a good job with that but they did. We met DJ Groovy Grant who was awesome! Then listened to a German Jazz band who was flown in from Berlin, Germany. They were great! The crowd was great! Wonderful atmosphere. Love this place. So authentic.

Yelp
I have never been in a place where I feel like it can easily be seen in a film... which is to say that this jazz bar feels like a page out of the movies. The vibe is cool, the drinks are solid, and the music is rich and chill. I also liked that you could actually carry on (quiet) conversations without music blaring in the background. This would be a great place to catch up with friends or have a date night. We don't have many true jazz bars in the metro, so it's nice to not only have one, but a great one located in the historical jazz district. Enjoy!

Yelp
My girlfriend decided we needed to see a good old fashioned blues singer while we were in KC, and she found The Blue Room. I'm glad she did! If you get there early, you can get table down in front. If you get there a little later, there's some more seating on a raised area behind there. It's not optimal, but it's not bad. The staff was over the top, hands down super friendly. The guy that seated us was dressed to the nines! The band that night and the staff seemed very familiar with each other, and you can tell there are a fair number of regulars that go to shows. Everyone was lovely, and when it was dark, the street was beautiful. I don't know if I'll be back in KC anytime soon, but if I am, I'd love to go back to The Blue Room.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite places in KC. Indigo hour on Fridays from 530 to 730 is one of our favorite things to do. Having lived in KC for 14 years, whenever we are back in town, we make this stop. There is no cover charge for this. Drinks are very reasonable and the live Jazz is unbelievable. Music lovers...you must visit. They have a museum as well as various musicians throughout the week.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to enjoy a good drink and some live jazz. At times it feels like you've been transported to the scene of a movie set as their are so many characters. From the musicians on the stage to the staff working it all feels like a throw back to a bygone era.

Yelp
Such a cool spot! I like green lady lounge better, but their jazz festival was awesome, and I always enjoy it when I go.

Yelp
Great place to hang out and listen to amazing music! Full bar, easy parking, and super safe. Awesome time.

Yelp
The Blue Room is a true Kansas City gem...wait, that's up the street...ok, weak humor...but it's a TREASURE! A working jazz club that's also a museum commemorating Kansas City's rich musical history. I have to admit to feeling a little bit out of place when we first walked in for Friday Happy Hour-the place was packed and it seemed like we were the only three white faces there. But the dapper older gentleman at the door warmly welcomed us and found us seats along the railing on the second level, looking right down at the charming Lady D and her band playing a lively mix of jazz, R&B and blues. In spite of the crowd, our waitress somehow managed to get us our drinks in very short order; I have no idea how reasonably priced they were, I was having such a good time I just handed her a twenty for the round and waved her on. It was fascinating, if a little uncomfortable, to read the old flyers from the early days mounted on the walls and under glass on the tables. This is a part of the American Jazz Museum, and it would be cool to be able to walk through the place when it's better lit and there's less distraction. But the music-that's the real tribute!

Yelp
I'm closing out my KCMO Reviews with the Blue Room. We loved it. The three of us were there for an early evening performance by four young musicians. They were lovely. No cover, good drinks from bar at standard prices, excellent service, and great exhibits on the walls. I almost forgot free street parking within a block of the Blue. A number of the audience members appeared to be gracefully aging 1950s and 60s hipsters. The three of us had a great time.

Yelp
I'm not a huge jazz fan, so I guess this review is from a casual observer's point of view. I was in KC for the weekend. In KC, if you're going to do anything, you do BBQ, and you do jazz. The Blue Room came recommended via Citysearch so the wifey and I decided to give it a shot. We were really happy we did. I'd have to say, from an outsider's view, KC is a small city. You can get from end to end pretty quickly and it makes for a nice weekend. But the Blue Room, as far as I'm concerned, it is THE perfect way to wrap up a pleasant and relaxed day. We were lucky enough to see Hadley Calimen make magic with his sax, and his band do the same with the piano and the drums and the bass. Seriously, we had a band during dinner do "jazz" too, and Hadley and the Blue Room put them to shame. Anyways, more on the Blue Room. It's got a cool vibe. It's quaint, the people working there are nice, and the drinks are reasonable (in the Bay Area, $8 for a beer isn't unheard of, so paying $4 for some good local brew is great). I really enjoyed myself and I'd definitely recommend the Blue Room for those people looking for a nice night out. That being said, I have no idea what a GREAT jazz club is like, so I'm leaving myself some room for error. 4 stars.

Yelp
In high school, my senior class took a field trip down to Vine Street and I remember driving by (school bus style) The Blue Room and vowing to return. 5 years later, it's happened. Dreams can come true. I went with my stepmom, boyfriend from Chicago, and cousins from Branson to show them some KC old school jazz flavor. My cousin is a music major and plays the bass so he enjoyed it most of all. The Blue Room is blue, believe it or not. AND the tables have glass covering authentic memorabilia from Blue Room days of yore. The band playing was The Scamps and Geneva Price sang with them- she even sang "The Lady is a Scamp." =) Geneva sings at my church, The Unity Temple on the plaza so it was fun seeing her outside of a church environment. She's so cute and flirted with the little old jazz players. I think, nay, am positive that they were all secretly in love with her. During intermission, Lucky, the bass player came by every table asking for requests. We requested Kansas City- because it is the city that has our hearts. And... the only jazz song I really know. It cost $10 a ticket and drinks were cheap. Ask the bartender for a "really good drink." He wouldn't tell me what was in it- only that he'd invented it for those who weren't sure what to order. It was great and a big glass cost 8 big boys. MMmmmm. I'll definitely come back. It's a fun experience unique to Kansas City!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here for date night about a month ago. *Wow, another really late review! Sorry Guys!!! I promise I'll get better about actually posting reviews in a timely manner!* Anyway, lets get to the review shall we? I'm a fan of Blues and Jazz and love the emotions and feelings behind the music. So when my boyfriend was tasked with planning a date night for us...I was pleasantly surprised when he suggested that we come here! We drove out to the Blue Room around...7:30 or so. And since we were a bit late getting here, we had some trouble finding parking. Once we did, we were able to walk in, buy our tickets, and be greeted and seated by the wonderful older gentleman in a Fedora. We were seated on the 2nd level at a high top table with a great view of the stage...I really don't think there is a bad seat in the house. I loved the decor and feel of the club. It took a bit before our waitress came to take our order, but when she did service was quite prompt. The night that we were there was interesting because with the Jazz there was a bit of Rap happening as well. Not bad, just unexpected. The live music, the excellent service and phenomenal ambiance guarantee that I'll be back and with a couple friend of ours who loves Jazz!

Yelp
Went here twice with my fellow New Yorkers and I loved it each time. I went on a Saturday which included an admission fee and I went on a Friday for Indigo Hours which was absolutely free. I enjoyed Indigo hour and I am glad we got there early and sat in front because it was PACKED after an hour. I also enjoyed the little buffet they had going on with home-cooked food being served while we watched the band play. Not sure if that is a usual thing they do? Anyway, the vibe and atmosphere at the Blue Room is amazing. It's definitely one of my go-to spots when my friends and family visit from out of town or when I just need to wind down and have a good time.

Yelp
What a great venue. Great music, strong drinks and the cover varies from $10-15. I love live Jazz so this is the place to go it that is your thing. The atmosphere is great for date night or ladies night. Great venue, I hope they stay around for a long time.
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
Love the variety of live music they play here. Many times there is no cover charge. I have two requests. I wish they would serve food for those of us that don't like to drink a lot. It would be great to have light snacks or desserts. Maybe get a food truck to park outside and allow people to bring that food in? Also, I've never been impressed with the calendar of info on the website. It seems unorganized and there are just names. You don't really know what kind of music you will be listening to. If the website included a short description of the music, that would be nice. Otherwise, fantastic venue.

Yelp
I love the Blue Room at the corner of 18th and Vine. It's so quaint and exactly what you think of when you want to go to a jazz and blues club. While it is literally a room; it's small and there are about 10-15 tables. The bar is across from the small stage, which is in front of the large window facing the street. It's very dark, but that all makes for the atmosphere and mystique. The night I went was after touring the adjoining Jazz and Negro League Baseball Museum. There was a lady singing, and her voice was beautiful. The whole affair made me felt like I should be in the 1930s, with a pincurl wave, stark red lipstick, and smoking out of one of those cigarette attachment thingys that is supposed to make you look more glamorous. If you like jazz and blues, or even have an inkling/urge that you'll like blues and jazz in the near future....I say check this out.

Mercedes G.

Yelp
Beautiful Jazz band but no food. Nice relaxed vibe. Place to wind down after a busy day or super fun night.
google avatar

Cyndi N.

Yelp
My husband and I are visiting KC for the first time and heard that the blue room offered a great time. We stopped in for the Friday night happy hour and was not disappointed in the live band. Excellent jazz so relaxing and friendly.
google avatar

Ann W.

Yelp
As so much of the history of the 18th and Vine District has faded into the distant past, the Blue Room is a great reminder of how history can blend with present day and produce beautiful results. The Blue Room is part of the Jazz Museum complex, but you can set aside any ideas about this being a stodgy museum-like place. The Blue Room hops with amazing jazz music, a wonderful vibe and great staff who are welcoming from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. The tables are mini-showcases of memorabilia and there are some cool wall displays as well. The stage is small and there's not a bad seat in the house. Come early for weekend shows if you want a good seat. The venue is small and lively. There's no food, only drinks, but they mix 'em pretty strong.

Phillip T.

Yelp
I've been in Kansas City for twenty years and have never been here before. Great band in an intimate setting of about 15 tables or so. What an awesome experience!
google avatar

Billy P.

Yelp
Hit the place on 1st Friday and was it ever well set-up with a killer band. We felt so lucky to have been in town at the right time and the right place. Do not miss this place if you like culture, good music, and a very hip vibe!!
google avatar

Darome B.

Yelp
The place is the true representation of Kansas City Jazz and Blues! New Orleans eat your heart out!

Evelyn T.

Yelp
So glad I had the opportunity to visit the Blue Room. The band was wonderful!! The coolest part was being able to visit the place as part of the museum during the day and then listen to live music later on. I would recommend doing both if you have the time.
google avatar

Kendra S.

Yelp
So, I decided attend the Open Mic Poetry Jam session at the Blue Room. This event is hosted every 3rd Tuesdays of the month. It was amazing to see all the young and experienced talents and gifts we have here in our community. Please take time to visit and support. If nothing else it'll be a worth more than the $5 attendance fee.
google avatar

Yelp
Five stars because this was a wonderful place. I went with a group (bachelor party)and the staff saw to taking care of us immediately. Not only were they friendly, but they made sure our drinks were always fresh. Bar seemed well stocked and service was quick. The music, I'm told it changes often, was good and the bad was extremely friendly. the atmosphere was rich and lively, but still fairly well controlled. I enjoyed my time there well enough I'm planning to take my wife next time, good work!
google avatar

Aaron M.

Yelp
Attended this venue last night on a recommendation from a friend. Without a doubt, instantly in love with the venue, location and its constituents. I love jazz and the people it attracts, but this place has its own certain flair and appeal making music, memories and ambience its own gracious style. Andre' Tyler, the manager, went out of his way to detail the bands playing this week and how we were always welcome. So much so, We will be visiting again this evening with an even larger group simply for the hospitality and the music which starts at 7pm.
google avatar

Nildy M.

Yelp
For KC Jazz, it doesn't get any better than the Blue Room. You will feel the heritage. The displays are great. The servers are very sweet. Drink prices are reasonable. There is no food on the premises, except during Indigo Hour on Fridays, 5:30 - 7:30p. The American Jazz Museum next door is a must see for any lover of Jazz. The Blue Room is the real deal for KC Jazz.
google avatar

Iddy -.

Yelp
If you ever see Ida McBeth's name on the schedule......GO! She put on a fantastic show, as did the band before her. Service was friendly and on the spot, and if you wait till closer to the time they shut down the food, you may get a few scraps for free (just in case you're a fellow budget traveler).
google avatar

Alyssa H.

Yelp
Great music and atmosphere! Service was good overall. The greeter at the front (possibly the owner) was very inviting, while the service was a little frantic. Only ten dollars to get in the door for this wonderful band, and we were able to hangout and just simply enjoy the jazz! I really enjoyed it.
google avatar

Yelp
Great atmosphere, good music, friendly staff and talented musicians...I'm will most definitely be back.

Yelp
This was my first attempt to find Kansas City jazz. We showed up late on a Friday around 11:30pm. Even though there was a $15 cover charge earlier, they let us in for free because it was late. The high cover was probably why the place was half full. The atmosphere felt structured and stiff with the lead extolling the virtues of jazz. Maybe it's because the room is part of the American Jazz Museum and the Blue Room is also trying to be educational. Performers seemed uncomfortable and behaved more like students than professional musicians.

Micheal J.

Yelp
The Blue Room is Kansas city very cool place good jazz good drinks safe place to just kick back. The manager Ronny (my man) is a good guy that makes you feel welcome. THE BLUE ROOM 18th & vine is were it's at .........Mike from California
