The 18 Best Restaurants & Bars In Puerto Vallarta - Puerto Vallarta - The Infatuation

"Delicious seafood, great margaritas, and a front-row view of the beach: The Blue Shrimp checks a lot of boxes for a casual group dinner. Get a frozen mango margarita when you sit down, enjoy the incredible people-watching, and order as many dishes as you can share. Go with the bacon-wrapped shrimp stuffed with cheese, some tableside guacamole, and the shrimp boat, which includes ceviche, calamari, garlic bread, tequila, coconut, and diabla shrimp. Basically, it’s all the seafood you could ever want, and it comes in a literal miniature boat." - debora mestre

It was amazing! We had a table that looked out over a lake that was full of turtles and birds and all kinds of amazing animals but it was sunset so we had the sunset as well with the color changes. At this time of the year you do not need reservations. The food was amazing. Service was fantastic. We had the coconut shrimp and my husband had the fish . The Menu very extensive. It has a big blue shrimp. They were soft and tender like they should be. The restaurant was open air. It was clean. The bathrooms were clean. It was a huge thatch roofed building with elevated ceilings. There was all kinds of art and things all over the walls. Lots of pictures of famous people that have been there.

Google
Pretty view and cozy place, they have a fixed menu also so ask for the option of the day, usually soup or salad, fish/shrimp/chicken and dessert for 350 mxn. The rest of the menu is tasty as well, pretty view.

Google
We saw this restaurant on the way to our resort and decided to didn't a try. The restaurant is quaintly located beside a lagoon area. The 4 of us ordered different dishes including: 1/4 KG Garlic Shrimp, Baja Style Tacos, Seafood Coquilles St Jacques & Filet Mignon with Jumbo Shrimp. The food was fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. The service was fantastic. We would definitely recommend and look forward to coming back.

Food was a bit more tourist centric- but decent. Flavor was there. Bugs can be a problem but it’s to be expected with open air seating.

Google
We looked for a unique place in Nuevo Vallarta when in visiting from Canada. This was the perfect place. It's located on a quaint lagoon with wildlife. Our resort called in advance and booked us sitting directly next to the lagoon, so pretty! We were there at sunset so it was cool to see in daylight and night. Service was top notch, cocktails and food were amazing. It's pricey but worth the unique experience! Order the guacamole and tortilla soup! I loved the Red Party cocktail! Looking forward to going back!

Google
We had a wonderful dining experience at The Blue Shrimp in Nuevo Vallarta. The seafood was fresh. The restaurant offers a relaxed, open-air setting with beautiful views of the nearby lagoon, creating a pleasant and inviting atmosphere. The staff were attentive and friendly, ensuring we felt welcomed throughout our meal. The menu features a variety of options, from classic seafood favorites to unique specialties, catering to different tastes. Overall, The Blue Shrimp is a fantastic spot for anyone looking to enjoy quality seafood in a charming environment. We look forward to returning on our next visit to Nuevo Vallarta.

Google
Ventured off our resort on a rainy day and went here for an early Valentine Day supper and we are so glad we did! The food and drinks were amazing! I can't remember our servers name but he was amazing too ! Best restaurant I have eaten at in PV/ Nuevo ♡

Gloria Ulry

Google
Mega and his support staff provided excellent service for an excellent meal. He explained well all seafood options and with good manners and good humor answered our questions. Food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Our best meal to date. The environment is beautiful and is clean and welcoming. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
This is our second time at the blue shrimp Nueva Vallarta. On both occasions, the food was wonderful and the service was awesome. Our server was Pablo, who made our Caesar salad salad at the table. One of the best I've ever had. Our first meal was the combination, blue shrimp, and lobster which was to die for. I never knew shrimp was that big! On our second visit just recently I had the Chili Rellano with lobster, my husband had the Seabass Macho. Both were delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Back up to 5 stars YAY! Ive been coming here for many years and thrilled to report another 5 star experience after my recent trip to PV~ A+ Views of lagoon & sunset A+ Service A+ Food DO try the Friend While Snapper DO try their cocktails (better than most resorts in area) DO try the oysters (BEST BEST!) DO try the table side Cesar salad 99% of the time I dine here solo and the entire staff takes amazing care of me that I never feel lonely or out of place. This is a staple in Nuevo Vallarta.

Yelp
If you're looking for a delicious food and beverage experience, come to The Blue Shrimp in NV! First, Isaac provided outstanding customer service! He was attentive, fun, positive, and informative. Everything we ordered was delicious, and their margaritas were on point! We would come back here over and over again!

Yelp
Probably our best meal in Vallarta. Excellent service, ambiance, and food. We loved the space which is on a little reservoir of water and you can see swimming turtles from the table. It's a spacious and pretty restaurant with a wide variety of foods on the menu but mostly seafood. I started with the lobster bisque which was excellent, and our table split a delicious caesar salad that was made table side. It was wonderful. I also ordered the crab sopes which were good, but tbh I was full by them so I only ate 1.5/3. Just be aware the bisque is a big portion! We finished with a chocolate lava cake and it was really good - nice and hot chocolate flow from the middle. I'd definitely recommend this spot and return.

Yelp
Great food, great presentation and excellent service !! Victor our server was great! When we sat at our table we could see "Pancho" the river crocodile surfing across the water...

Yelp
The food was so good. The Caesar salad was the best! I had a lobster tail and couldn't finish it. It was the biggest I've ever seen. It also was delicious. It was our anniversary, and we were taken care of so well by the staff. The service was really good. We had amazing wine and David was an awesome server. I recommend The Blue Shrimp in Nuevo Vallarta highly!

Yelp
Loved the ambiance in the place! It's an open-air restaurant on a lagoon that so pretty and charming, you can't help but want a photo! Great place for couples. We went with another couple and it was quite romantic. At another table near us, we witnessed the special moment of a man proposing to his girlfriend! Taking off a star because they had no red snapper (two people in our party came just for this) and they had no medium shrimp. The garlic butter shrimp and the coconut shrimp were absolutely delicious. One of the guys in our party said the shrimp lasagna was amazing. I had the table side Caesar and would highly recommend it if you love Caesar salad. It was delicious! I also recommend the pina colada (although there didn't seem to be much "happy juice" it it, it was very tasty). We would not recommend the clam chowder (not at all traditional... tastes funny... like there's a lot of spinach in it or something???) or the bisque (watery and not flavorful). Service was really good. Overall, a place we would like to return to when we come back to Puerto Vallarta... although we'll probably go to the Puerto Vallarta location instead (this is the Nuevo Vallarta location) because it has a better menu with more offerings (we had friends that went to the Puerto Vallarta location the same night we did the Nuevo Vallarta location and their menu and food selections were a lot better.

Yelp
Probably the best meal I've ever had. We were on our honeymoon and brought our own wine - wasn't an issue at all. We were treated like a VIP table and they gave us a really nice table with a great view. The service was also very good. Staff was very friendly. We ordered Lobster, jumbo coconut shrimp, red snapper, table side made guacamole, oysters Rockefeller, and lobster bisque soup - amazing. It will be hard to beat this meal.

Patty J.

Yelp
Had the worst dinner tonite at this restaurant. Ordered jumbo shrimp was served Med/large not jumbo the shrimp was dry !!!! Showed the manger he did nothing Do not go here for dinner overpriced and bad food !! I have been to lots of good restaurants in Nuevo Vallarta but this is NOT one of them... stay away if you want Good Shrimp !!!

Bart E.

Yelp
We have been meaning to come here for awhile, a n d finally came in...WOW. had to come back three days later. The tables idea Ceasar is the best I have ever had. My hubby does not really like Ceasar salad, and he was craving it so much that we came back just a few days later. The service is spot on, and I love that they use linen napkins. Worth every penny, and the fans give off a great breeze. Turtles swimming right by your table are frosting on the cake.

Myriam V.

Yelp
The food was superb, the waiter provided exceptional service, and the ambiance was fantastic.

Yelp
Food as great service was spot on couldn't have Ben any better. Drinks were a little snazzy and over priced but good. All in all a great Christmas night

Sue M.

Yelp
This is a chain restaurant. A bit overpriced but still good. It is on the lagoon so very nice view.

Brian B.

Yelp
My wife and I just had dinner at the Blue Shrimp. We shared a Caesar salad which was prepared at our table and was very tasty. We both had the Blue Shrimp (one arriero and the other coconut) which was excellent! The service was very good and the restaurant design and setting was very unique.
google avatar

Yelp
This was the best lunch I've ever eaten. I know that's an extreme statement, but I swear to you I am being sincere. My wife and I were staying at the awesome resort nearby and we decided come here to have lunch with some old friends visiting from Guadalajara. We were celebrating our 10th anniversary. We literally spent 4 hours here. The food was spectacular, we had a band serenade us , 70 year aged tequila. Cuban cigars, and a crocodile swimming around checking us out. I can't imagine a better time. They let us use their private balcony to enjoy the Cubans while our wives hung out at the table. Honestly the best lunch I ever had. Here's to hoping I can return one day . Good memories. Thanks Blue Shrimp!

Yelp
So good, everything about this place is totally worth it. Caesar salads made at your table. Great views. Great service and staff. Give it a try, 7 minute cab ride from Vidanta, you won't be sorry.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere ! We have driven by here for years and had no idea how beautiful it was inside. Great drinks, table side Cesar salad, shrimp...Yumm! The turtles coming by for a visit were magical. Highly recommend!

Yelp
My family and friends had the pleasure of eating at the Blue Shrimp during our stay in Nuevo Vallarta. The staff was so attentive and the food was amazing! The lobster Chile relleno was outstanding! When we were done with our meal, they brought our complimentary desserts for the table. This was very cool! If we ever make our way back to Nuevo Vallarta, we will definitely be dining at the Blue Shrimp!
google avatar

Jamie H.

Yelp
We had lunch at the Blue Shrimp as an unplanned stop while waiting for our day tour to start. They were so fantastic and accommodating. The food was excellent and the service was beyond compare. We ended up being in a hurry and they had a cab waiting. I wish we had more time to stay and enjoy the delicious food and fantastic service. A must try!

Cassie P.

Yelp
The food here was just ok. I think it's way overpriced for what it was and the breaching on my shrimp wasn't cooked all the way through then the waiter overcharged me. I wouldn't come back.

Amy H.

Yelp
The food was awesome. We had blue shrimp. The iguanas were fun to watch outside by the pond.
google avatar

Marco G.

Yelp
Fantastic experience overall, celebrating a birthday and the staff made it special. Seafood was outstanding, my party had Peruvian ceviche, shrimp pasta, Baja tacos and clam soup. My steak could have been better, I recommend sticking to seafood-based dishes. Drinks and dessert were also superb. Nice views all around.

Cory F.

Yelp
Great location. The menu looked awesome. I was bummed I wasn't more hungry. We had the Peruvian ceviche and it was very good.
google avatar

Yelp
Ate here as usual our first nite in NV. Shared an order of blue shrimp with my wife....superbly done....like mini lobsters. Excellent attentive service again by all staff especially David our waiter. We come here at least once every stay at paradise village
google avatar

Marcella C.

Yelp
Best dinner in Nuevo Vallarta. The ambiance was fantastic. The food was phenomenal the service was out of this world. We had our own private palapa on the inlet. There is a crocodile in the water the staff will call over for you to see a d there are turtles galore. I had lobster chili rellanos and the were amazing. Everyone at our table wanted to go back a second time in in week

Yelp
This place is great! The fam and I stumbled upon it last summer, during our vacation. It was such a great find that we had to visit twice during last years 2 week stay. Everything was perfect then, and it was perfect this visit. This visit, I ordered their clam chowder, which was good. Not as thick and inundated with the larger clam chunks that I'm used too, but it was tasty and left me wanting more. I'd venture to say that since it's hot and humid, the last thing I'd want or need is the heaviness of the clam chowder that I'm used too. No need for comfort food in heat like this. Especially when there is more food to come. We also enjoyed their house-made guacamole; that was tasty. My husband ordered the whole fried red snapper- it was great! I ordered the sea bass w/ butterfly garlic/wine/basil shrimp- excellent choice. Although sea bass isn't my all time favorite fish, it was seasoned and cooked very well. If you love sea bass, you might want to give it a try. To top it off, the server, David, was fantastic! Very attentive, humorous, and accommodating. The perfect end to our vacation. I rate it a 5! Check them out when you can!

Yelp
Great dinne and atmosphere. Bossa pop music. Great tequila selection. The blue shrimp are amazing and huge. Met the owner great guy who bought me a Cazadores Repasado. Gracias Amigo!

Yelp
The food here was excellent but the dishes are rather expensive. The service was good and the ambiance nice but the cost will have me think twice before I return.

Yelp
Visited here as part of a cruise excursion. The fajitas and margaritas were delicious. A great way to top off our tequila tasting and historic city tour.

William P.

Yelp
Staff are polite food is just ok however you'll get old waiting for it. The restaurant was just about empty on a Saturday night and the food took over a hour to be served.
google avatar

Yelp
Even though the staff was apologetic about our horrible meal, I feel like I have to post something so another unsuspecting tourist doesn't spend $100 on a meal that will make them ill. My son ordered the clam chowder which was brown and tasted extremely fishy, not fresh at all. It was covered in a brown dried layer on top like it has been sitting around, not freshly ladled, or perhaps microwaved? Either way it was awful. I decided to spring for a more expensive dish I saw good reviews for on here, the coconut shrimp. They're priced as fresh jumbo shrimp but there was nothing fresh about them, and they tasted like they'd been wrapped in a thick layer of coconut cake. Way too sweet! They came with two sauces that tasted like mayonnaise and made the dish even less appetizing. My partner gave me a bite of his calamari which was clearly frozen, overly breaded and super greasy. The dipping sauce was supposed to be chipotle? But it tasted like cocktail sauce. His fish tacos were something you'd be better off getting at Taco Del Mar, they also had a weird fishy taste like they were not fresh. None of us finished our food and when the waiter asked how it was and we told him it was not good, they took two dishes off our bill but it was still $100 (with cocktails that were just ok.) I felt really grossed out that this place can charge people such high prices for food that still has me feeling sick 24 hours later. They could really use a visit from Gordon Ramsay to sort this kitchen out. The coolest part of our visit was seeing the turtles in the bay! That says all you need to know about the food.

Christina C.

Yelp
Amazing service and most of all amazing food. Would definitely recommend eating there. Seafood is delicious! Our waiter Pablo was amazing. Definitely will be coming back.

Angela T.

Yelp
Food and service was amazing. We had the oyster Rockefeller for appetizer and I've never seen oysters this huge and they tasted amazing. My boyfriend had the red snapper which he thoroughly enjoyed. I had the wood fired filet mignon with shrimp which was good. We loved the atmosphere and good music. Will be back next time I'm in Nuevo Vallarta!
google avatar

Angela M.

Yelp
What lovely service! The place has a convenient location with quality service. The food is fresh and thoughtful. It's also wonderful that the owner is often there. You can tell why many notable people eat here. All good vibes. This will be a traditional stop in and out of town resturant! God bless you Martin! Thank you for your contribution! Till next time dear! Xox, ATM
google avatar

Yelp
Love the Jumbo Shrimp prepared Arriero style. A unique local flavor that you probably won't find at home (US). I order it every time. Shrimp is tender and is butterflied so it pulls right out of the shell easily. Great presentation on the delicious flaming Mexican coffee too. Thank you to Valentine for such nice service.
google avatar

Janet H.

Yelp
We saw this place a few times and decided to give it a try. We had heard from other cruisers that the food was good, and it was. I was a little disappointed that my shrimp was a bit shrimpy...I expected bigger. Overall for the price, service and quality of the food, along with the lovely outdoor venue, we'd go back.
google avatar

Ryan B.

Yelp
Food and service was great! Definitely one of my top choices for Nuevo Vallarta and a great ambiance even if it doesn't look that way on the outside. Owner was awesome and tended to anything we needed - and the Cadillac margarita and Caesar salad made table side not to be missed.

Kami M.

Yelp
The service here was amazing! The food was fantastic too! Best food in Puerto Vallarta!

Bruce G.

Yelp
We have been eating here for many years without any problems but tonight our waiter was flat out dishonest and purposely up charged us. When we called him on it after getting the bill he apologized but wouldn't adjust the charges to what we actually ordered. This was NOT an honest mistake . We made it VERY clear what we wanted when we ordered and he billed us for the far more expensive options. Dishonesty is not okay and not at all typical for Nuevo vallarta We will not be going back- to the blue shrimp - EVER

Yelp
The Blue Shrimp! If you find yourself in Puerto Vallarta and want to experience a high-end seafood restaurant with great service and awesome ambiance then The Blue Shrimp is the place for you. Atmosphere: It's very lively here. Lots of chit chatting and laughter going on in this restaurant. You can really tell people are simply enjoying themselves. The restaurant looks a bit skeptical on the outside but it's beautiful inside. The servers are well trained and will do what it takes for you to have a great experience. Food: Appetizers Salad Bar - Best salad bar I've had so far. Lots of variety. Oyster Rockefeller - They are tasty but just a bit small. Fish Tacos - Battered fish tacos. It was very tasty. Entrees Coconut Shrimp - Battered blue shrimp serve with a coconut sauce in a coconut with rice and veggies on the side. The shrimp was a bit overcooked. Lobster & Fillet Mignon - Big lobster tail with a very tender fillet mignon. Everything about this dish is amazing. I cleaned up this dish. Birthdays: They serve you a slice of cake with a sparkler and sing for you and of course TEQUILA! They generously gave our party tequila shots and pour tequila down the birthday boy's mouth. Summary: Good :) * About everything Bad :( * Not much

Yelp
The outside of this place is the prime example of "don't judge a book by it's cover." It looks like a cheesy seafood place you see on the side of the road in Myrtle Beach but inside you will fine some real fine dining! Sunday night and this place was not packed. We got a good seat by the water and the waiter showed us all the seafood on special. Right off the bat we started with some tortilla soup and we're impressed. They bring the toppings on the side and the soup is poured for you table side from these cute little vases. The soup is amazing so don't miss out. From there, everything kept getting better. The Caesar salad is made table side and is very fresh but a bit anchovy tasting (if you don't like that, just let the server know and they will tone it down). From there we all went for, you guessed it, shrimp dishes. The shrimp lasagna, although weird sounding, was a hit with my grandmother. The poblano pepper with shrimp was flavorful and unique. I went with the shrimp in the poblano sauce and enjoyed the mixture of flavor without too much of a spice. Oh, and load up on the chips and salsa here as well! Some of the best I tried all vacation. We ended with the volcano chocolate cake and some complimentary Kahlua drinks. The service here is great and you have a good view of the lagoon. Only thing that can be a bother (although they really jam well) is the band playing cause it can be hard to speak to the waiter. Give this place a try! American sized portions so make sure you take your leftovers to go!

Yelp
Big surprise here! Was told it was just ok and be careful what you order. The only thing I would say is stay away from the jumbo shrimp order and just get the regular, big price difference but you don't really get bigger. Stay away from the tequila Cart, that can add up real quick. Great ambiance, great salad bar! Pass on the appies and get the free salad bar, the tortilla soup was good. I had the tuna steak, cooked to perfection. Yum.

Yelp
If you're looking for a high-end seafood experience with a breathtaking ambiance, fantastic service and even better food, THIS is the place in Nueva Vallarta!!! Don't be misled by the appearance when you drive up... it looks like a warehouse with a bit of wear but as you enter this open-air restaurant, you will realize you just found a good. Drinks: They do a very creative presentation of drinks that give you the experience of wine tasting at the tableside. They know their spirits and allow you to smell and taste to perfection to make the best margarita! Food: I had the Blue Shrimp (coconut style), which gave me 7-8 jumbo pieces of shrimp that I cut into 25+ juicy mouthfuls. My family had shrimp lasagna and lobster! All tasty! The Filet Mignon is cooked on a grill so was a bit dried out, but stay with the seafood! The name is BLUE SHRIMP! Service: The staff here treats you like family but not without the professional touch of educating you on the menu and checking on you frequently. They have the perfect mix of checking in without hovering. If you can request JUAN as your server, you won't be disappointed; he's fantastic! Ambiance: This restaurant sits on a lagoon, but with no weird smells! You get yo enjoy your meal on crafted wooden tables while looking at iguanas and other tropical life at the right distance. This open air is built with string fans over your table that are cooling and quiet. Plus, there are NO BUGS! We'll definitely be back! Glad they opened up one in Nueva Vallarta!!!

Yelp
Such a lovely evening! We had the prime seat under the private palapa overlooking the lagoon. Everyone enjoyed the food, especially Blue Shrimp prepared in garlic and Portuguese style. Tomahawk steak was a special treat for the table. Warm salsa and table side guacamole... all contributed to an evening we will remember after many years coming to Nuevo. Service was impeccable. Hoping that tourism picks up to get more in this place.

Yelp
10/10 experience overall. Service and food was on point. Can't wait to go back when I am in Vallarta

Yelp
Our party of six had a memorable meal at The Blue Shrimp on our recent vacation to Nuevo Vallarta... It happened to be on Christmas Eve, and they had a special menu but we ordered off of the regular menu and were pleased. This restaurant offers a beautiful ambiance, attentive service, and delicious food. Victor was our waiter and he was great... Bobby was on saxophone and he made the experience complete. Our five year old son loved the music so much that he jumped up from the table and started break dancing. I swear he didn't have any of our margaritas either! We enjoyed the drinks and the salad bar with fresh veggies to start, we shared a couple of appetizers including octopus in a hot pot, which was the favorite, and then ordered various entrees as well. The fish was a tad bit dry and the breading on the coconut shrimp was thick, but still delicious. The kids had plain buttered pasta and lemonade. If you're looking for a memorable meal in the area, you can't go wrong at The Blue Shrimp!

Yelp
Feel bad about COVID as it's hitting everything locally in PVR. This said the service and food quality is fantastic. The concierge will order a taxi no matter the size of the party when you need it. This is a great venue that welcomed us even with two young children that were active while there. Good people

Leonard H.

Yelp
Food is ridiculously expensive in regards to their portions. The wait staff is incredible, though. You're better off eating locally. Ask the resort staff where they eat with their family if you stay in one. Overall, pretty infuriating experience when their tomahawk steak is nearly 100 dollars. For comparison, a tomahawk in outback steakhouse is 50 dollars. And an A5 Wagyu steak will net you 100 dollars. This tomahawk is NOT worth 100; ridiculous. All in all, pleask ask around and don't repeat the same mistake I did. I do not recommend.

Jackie B.

Yelp
We were very disappointed with this. We had high hopes coming in, but we knew it was a bad sign when we were one of three groups in the whole restaurant. By the time the food came, it was cold. Not lukewarm, but actually had a chill to it. The scallops were terrible and we did not finish them because we thought we might get sick. The Diablo shrimp were nothing like they were described and the mahi mahi was only okay. HOWEVER, the wait staff was incredible. They gave us free drinks when they noticed we didn't enjoy the food and were very attentive.

Yelp
This was a magical night for us! We were on our honeymoon and Miguel and his staff treated us to exceptional service and amazing food. It's a place that honestly re-defines the idea of true hospitality. We had a beautiful table by the water and watched the rain and lightening all night. Their live music was exceptional with a saxophone player who just happened to play our first dance from our wedding-- and even took requests! Miguel was extraordinary -- so knowledgeable about each menu option, each fresh seafood item and also provided a great recommendation for local wine! He had a perfect sense of timing, fun, friendly-- it's obvious he leads by example, training the other servers with tact and respect. My ahi tuna (which he recommended) was out of this world, and he even asked the chef to make shrimp enchiladas for my husband which were not on the menu. This night was the highlight of our entire honeymoon-- thank you for this enchanting evening -- five stars all the way across the board. Don't miss it!
