Chef Ryan Hackney Has Left Logan Circle Restaurant the Bird [Updated] | Eater DC

"Located in Logan Circle, I describe the Bird as a poultry-centric restaurant that has seen rapid chef turnover — three chefs in the past 18 months — and whose most recent executive chef, Ryan Hackney, left after citing “creative differences” following a few months on the job. I report that founding chef Michael Bonk handed the reins over last summer and that Eatwell’s owner David Winer says the majority of Bonk’s final menu remains in place; Winer also insists the kitchen crew and management are stable and that the current sous chef, an 11-year Eatwell veteran, will remain until a suitable replacement is found." - Tierney Plumb

I am reluctant to say that I did not have high expectations going into this restaurant. But with that said I was pleasantly surprised. The food took me by surprise ay how fresh and well prepared it was. It wasn't stunning by any means but it was solid. The veggies were fresh and my steak was cooked to a nice medium rare. Our service was awesome. Our waitress was very helpful and knowledgeable. We were surprised to find out later that it was her first time serving. The history of the location and its interior was a bit eclectic and odd. But overall a good experience.

Went back to the Bluebird on Center Street recently. The food wasn’t quite as good as I remembered from past visits, but it was still tasty. The historic charm, friendly service, and cozy atmosphere made it a worthwhile stop. I’d still go back for the experience alone.

Wow! Huge portions, servers were all so so nice and smiley, food came out at a perfect speed! The prices were very fair! I will be visiting the Bluebird Restaurant each time I come to Logan.

Once a year we drive through Logan, and this year we happened upon the Bluebird. What a lovely experience! It was like entering another era long past. When you go in there is a long glassed counter with many delicious handmade chocolates and candy for sale. Upon being seated you are given a delicious freshly-made warm roll and butter. Also, have some honey on your roll upon request. The Bluebird offered many interesting lunch choices including chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes or many different sandwiches or burgers. They also have nice lunch specials with salmon or pork chops, etc. The prices are very reasonable as well. My freshmade burger with bacon, cheese, and avocado along with fries was under $9. Our lunch was delicious, and the service was excellent. If you actually had room for dessert there were many different choices including a large selection of ice cream desserts and shakes. The dessert special today was banana cream pie for $1.50 for the generous slice. We will definitely be back next time we are in Logan!

I found myself alone on a Friday night, so I decided to stroll along main and find a nice place to eat. I saw the bluebird sign and immediately memories surfaced of dining there as a child. I entered through the nostalgic doors and was met with a smile and was taken to my seat. The service was excellent and the sirloin was cooked to perfection. That combined with the wonderful atmosphere and reasonable prices lead to a great experience.

We got a tip to stop at the Blubird for a meal. We were not disappointed. Table service. Great menu and they have a full service icecream counter and a chocolate dipped candy counter. Historical, local, and full of charm!

Such a cute place for a soda break or to order food. It had a very old time feel and was a fun and different experience for people that have never been to an old bar before. The soda was home made and high quality flavors and ingredients, totally worth the two dollars.
