I live in this area and this restaurant used to be an actual floating restaurant in Winchester Bay. They moved a couple years ago, and I finally stopped in to check them out.
We had fish and chips (cod), fries, tots, and rice pilaf. Both my daughter and I rated the fish as pretty good, but not great. Somehow it just didn't have that extra zing that takes the fish from good to great. It was slightly dry, perhaps just a bit over-cooked and the batter seems a little bland. I usually go to the Bandon Fish Market restaurant in Bandon but just didn't want to drive that far this time.
We also thought the quantity of fish for the price was a little low. I ordered a 5 piece and my adult daughter got a 3 piece. We split them so each ended up with 4 pieces. My daughter was satisfied, but I was still a bit hungry. When I go to the Bandon restaurant, I'm always very full, so I think they're a bit small with their portion sizes here. Likewise, the little container of Tatar sauce didn't make it all the way to the end.
The fries and tater tots were both crispy and good, as was the rice pilaf.
They have a covered outdoor dining section that allows pets, along with indoor dining. No bay views, but they are next to the train museum area.
They have no vegetarian options other than some appetizer type stuff like a small salad or coleslaw. They do have a menu for the "lighter appetite."
Overall, it was pretty good fish, but not the best. The service was friendly and fast, and they have a lot of other fish-type menu items if you want shrimp, clam chowder, etc.
If you're heading south, I'd check out the little place on the Bandon bay front mentioned above. As a local alternative, you can try the Fisherman's Seafood Market just north of here.
Hope you're enjoying your coast trip!
