The boozy pig was a nice surprise when I had it for the first time last year (for takeout), and I enjoyed it so much that I had to come back the following year.
My family was looking for a brunch spot, so I decided to take them here for a sit-down visit. We came about an hour or more before closing and got seated right away cause luckily there weren't too many people at the time. It turns out that earlier they had a lot of activity which resulted in all the burgers and the Giuseppe sandwich being sold out at the time of our visit, so those are definitely some items I gotta try for myself in the future.
The service was nice and friendly. We got plenty of items for the table, but the only things I tried were the lemon ricotta pancakes $13, el mixto $16, bread pudding $8, French toast $12, the boozy papas $11, and chicharrons $8.
- The lemon ricotta pancakes were pretty good. The combination of flavors from the blueberries and lemon ricotta really makes it a unique experience.
- The el mixto was an instant favorite of mine last year, with its soft, flaky, crispy texture that made it a very enjoyable experience, so I was definitely excited to try it again. But this time around, while still good, I didn't get that same experience as the texture of the sandwich was hard pressed. Luckily, I was able to discover that the addition of the white BBQ sauce made it more enjoyable.
- The bread pudding was another instant favorite last time, and it remains the same once again.
- The French toast is made with their amazing bread pudding and then rolled in some sugar. They come with a blueberry jam and syrup, which makes it unique and pretty good. I do think the introduction of the bourbon sauce (used in the bread pudding) would've made this dish even better.
- The boozy papas were pretty decent. They are thick French fries that are quite similar to Potato wedges that are loaded with toppings. Just to note: the addition of the white BBQ sauce to these is well worth trying.
- The chicharrons were actually ordered by mistake by mom as she didn't expect pork rinds (she missed the description). I'm not much of a fan of pork rinds, but they were okay. Luckily, they're made right in-house AND they come with a side of white BBQ sauce, which definitely improved the experience.
Overall, my return to the boozy pig was an enjoyable experience. In the future, I'll definitely be sure to get the el mixto for takeout, as it had the texture and flavors that I enjoyed most, but everything else I'd be cool with in person or takeout. Looking forward to my next annual visit.
