"This popular Jewish deli in Newtown is known for their exceptional bagels and tasty platters. But during Rosh Hashanah, they reignite a fanbase for their incredible specials during the Holy Holiday: For $275, you can feed a family of 8 people (or 4 individuals for $140) with a feast that includes gefilte fish, matzo ball soup, brisket or whole roasted chicken, potato latkes or kasha varnishkes, challah bread, rugelach, and more." - Ernest Owens

"The Borscht Belt in Newtown offers up all of your Jewish deli favorites, from latkes to pastrami and rye sandwiches. Although The Borscht Belt Newtown location is relatively new, co-founder/executive chef Nick Liberato is in no way a restaurant industry novice, having been a personal chef to the stars, an established restaurateur, and appeared on popular culinary shows, such as Top Chef Masters and Bar Rescue, in addition to taking the role of executive producer and co-creator of Netflix’s Restaurants on the Edge. This place far exceeded our expectations. Delicious bagels, great people. 10/10 recommend trying it. We only had bagels and cream cheese, would say they were NY style authentic but would say they were delicious no matter what. We're looking forward to our next visit.

One of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had! Stopped by The Borscht Belt and was completely blown away. The sandwich I had was packed with flavor, perfectly balanced, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere has that perfect mix of charm and nostalgia, and the service was friendly and quick. Truly one of the best sandwich experiences of my life—can’t wait to come back and try more from the menu!

Came here 20 minutes before closing. The only staff at the front were very friendly. The place looks sparkly clean Ordered a smash burger and brisket dinner By the time the food was ready, it was already 7 pm and we had to leave so that they can close Will definitely come back here and try their other sandwiches I was told that the “Rachel” is a good one to try so that’s on my bucket list and reason to come back Sans the kids 🤪

The food is classic, & delicious!! So grateful they have this absolute GEM near by… it is a MUST. Tuna melt excellent & of course the pastrami on rye was on point! Must get the sides of macaroni salad & Coleslaw!! Love the vibe, almost forgot to mention that as well. Onto the black & white cookie will report back, I have high hopes

The Borscht Belt was an amazing dining experience. The atmosphere was gentle and charming, and so was the gentleman who served us. The food was amazing. The brisket cheesesteak was the best cheesesteak I have ever had. The meat was moist, and the cheese was so strong and flavorful. It really elevated the dish! My wife and I tried babka for the first time here, and we were blown away by it. The Borscht Belt is fantastic, and I would recommend it to anyone who loves good food! We will definitely revisit!

We went on a Friday during the late afternoon. We were a little nervous since no one else was in the restaurant. Our waiter took our order promptly. We opted for the soup and half sandwich combo. The matzo ball soup was delicious but it was not piping hot but warm enough to eat right away. We tried the Rueben (corned beef was lean and plentiful), the brisket cheesesteak ( served on a seeded roll with onions), and Potato latkes (served with applesauce and sour cream). My husband tried the chocolate egg cream (seltzer, milk, and Fox chocolate syrup). A few people came in for takeout while we were there. We overheard the manager speaking to a customer that they have been very busy with Goldbelly orders. It is nice to hear that a local restaurant is doing well.

Google
I came here for lunch with my daughter, as we both looking for some good sandwiches. I had heard great things about Borscht Belt being an authentic NYC style delicatessen that also has great bagels. We weren’t disappointed! We came at lunch on a Friday, so it wasn’t busy at all. So the amount of service was impressive! We had five people check in with us to make sure we had what we needed, that we were enjoying our food, and bringing us samples to test. And all the workers, including the owner, were super nice. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the service. The food was also awesome. They provide pickles and coleslaw as an appetizer, both of which were great. We shared the potato latkes, which was delicious. My daughter had a breakfast sandwich on an amazing challah bread, and I had a soup and half sandwich. For the soup, I had the matzo ball soup, which was the best I’ve had. For the sandwich, I picked the Don Rickles (roast beef sandwich). They put a nice spin on a classic, with crispy onions, horseradish aoili, and jalapeños. It was fantastic. We also got a dozen of their authentic NYC Ess-a bagels to go. They are partially cooked in NYC and shipped here so they can be finished and served fresh. With so many creative dishes on the menu to try, and such great service, plus a great old school 50s deli vibe, how can we not come back? Looking forward to our next visit! Keep up the great work!

Google
Delicious food, great service and great vibe. Best gluten free bagel sandwich that I have had. Christa was a fantastic waitress! She was so sweet and accommodating. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
So nice to see Chef Nick and eat all of the scrumptious food. Wonderful service, convenient location, and great if you have kids! We'll definitely be back when we're in the area. Mahalo!

Yelp
Phenomenal deli experience. A modern throwback to the classic NY deli experience and the famous hotels in the Catskills that made up the "Borscht Belt" back in their heyday. The staff couldn't be more accommodating and the food was out of this world. We tried the matzo ball soup, the 50/50 (steamed corned beef and pastrami on rye, the Miss Maisel sandwich, black and white cookie, and chocolate Babka. They import food daily from the best of the best including bread and baked goods from Rockland Bakery, Babka from a 150 year old bakery in Brooklyn, knishes from the famous Knish Nosh, bagels from Ess-a-bagel, and their meats are done in house. They also offer an expansive array of smoked fish and other products to take home. Everything here is top notch and the place itself has such a cool vibe. It's not often I walk out of a restaurant already planning our next visit and what we will order. I also found out they will be opening another location in the Trenton Farmers Market in late February. A big 5 stars for the. Borscht Belt!

Steve J.

Yelp
Finally got to get lunch from here and it was worth it. Great big sandwiches full of delicious flavor. The corned beef and pastrami were awesome...after all I find pastrami to be the most sensual of all the salted, cured meats. The breakfast sandwich on the challah bread were great as well. Nice seating areas inside and out. Awesome service and friendly staff.

Thomas P.

Yelp
3 take out sandwiches, pastrami, corned beef and a pastrami/corned beef combo had almost no meat. The included coleslaw and pickles were not included and there was no mustard. Way overpriced and very disappointing.

Fred B.

Yelp
These prices are ASTRONOMICAL!!!!!! The prices for basic cold cuts like pastrami are double what other deli's in the area charge!!!!

Jenifer B.

Yelp
Overall good experience at Borscht Belt. I went with my boyfriend who got the Reuben and said it was really good. My bagel was also good. Not the best I've ever had but definitely solid and would come again! Lots of great options to choose from and the workers were all very nice. I would bring cash too cause if you pay card there is a service fee

Darry S.

Yelp
Had to send an update/reply here. This guy Nick Liberato (who compares his tv show to the late chef/author and revered Anthony Bourdain) replies with snarky comments to reviews (not just mine but others)- corrected me for saying "corn beef" instead of "corned beef". Yup- that's my mistake. But, to be fair, Nick- if you want to nit pick, it's Russian dressing (capital R), "our selves" is ONE word and you said: "We prefer our selves on a "sloppy joe" type sandwich with extra russian and coleslaw.." I doubt that anyone else would "prefer" you on a sloppy joe type sandwich. Further, I did not "rip apart" a half eaten sandwich. I took ONE bite and opened up the sandwich to reveal the photo I posted. Extra Russian dressing and coleslaw? What does it look like with minimal? Do you think that I somehow removed the copious amounts of Russian dressing and coleslaw for the pleasure of taking photos to post? The bread was dry (much like some other reviews noted) and came apart. I was charged for extra Russian dressing and coleslaw so perhaps I misquoted the price of the sandwich at approximately $22. Maybe it was $21. Please forgive me. Every review that doesn't praise and laud your food is responded to with excuses, sarcasm or snark; our meat is cut on a 1.0, our bread is fresh daily, "we don't serve chicken soup" but matzo ball soup is on your menu (really- you need to make the reviewer wrong?), the sky was falling, etc. I excitedly ordered take-out from your restaurant for three people. It was about $80 for three sandwiches and a tiny little side order of shrimp salad. I wanted to love it. It fell so short that I felt compelled to write a post. Your reply reinforced my opinion that it is not worthy. 7/10/24 PS: Nick L. posted a snarky response to my first review. I addressed his comments in the above updated review. Then, he removed his sarcastic reply the next day. Since he says they don't serve "shrimp salad", I guess I hallucinated (just like the other reviewer who criticized their "chicken soup" only to have Nick L say they don't serve that. But they do serve matzo ball soup) ordering the small side of spicy type shrimp (I called it shrimp salad but I must have made a mistake) that was little shrimp with a spicy dressing/coating/seasoning for about $5-6. Yeah, gotta stop hallucinating those things!

Yelp
What a cool concept. Pays homage to the golden days of the Catskills and serving up some legit Jewish deli favorites. Plenty of Catskills kitsch lines the walls with a few Yiddish expressions sprinkles in. At least a half dozen different kinds of lox are available. Plus staples like white fish, corned beef and pastrami. And of course bagels and bialys. Tried their eggs benedict adaptation .... Perfectly poached egg atop a potato latke with sliced pastrami and half a sliced avocado, with hollandaise sauce. It could have been hotter from the kitchen but the taste is excellent. The pastrami makes the meal. Also tried a Brown's combo. A fresh pumpernickel bagel is piled high with nova lox, then topped with a giant scoop of whitefish salad, then garnished with thinly sliced tomato and sliced raw onion. I swore it was 55 years ago and I was with at my grandma's house in Brooklyn and we had just walked back from the appetizer store with our Sunday morning feast. It's not inexpensive. But the food is excellent and authentic. I'm only disappointed that I live in NC so can't make this spot a regular stop.

Yelp
My wife and I conducted a blind rye bread tasting. Five ryes competed for bragging rights. How does one conduct a "blind" tasting. My wife took a slice of bread from each deli and numbered them 1-5. Only my wife was aware of the mapping of the deli to the numbers. I then returned to the room and my wife stepped away. I made the sandwiches and then converted the numbers to letters. #1 becomes letter C, #2 becomes letter A, etc. The mapping of numbers to letters was only known by me. Below are the results in order of worst to best. #5 Original South Philly Jewish Rye (available at Giant Food Markets) cost $6 for a full loaf. This was our least favorite. No flavor and the texture was completely off. The bread was very dry, almost stale. If you are short on time (and money), this will work but my recommendation is head to a deli and get some real NY Jewish Rye. #4 Ben & Irv's Deli in Southamptom cost $5.50 for a half loaf. The texture gets us closer to a true deli rye bread but still dry and light on flavor. #3 Moish and Itzy's in Newtown cost $6.00 for a half loaf. The crust is chewy as it should be and tasted great. The inside is a bit on the dry side. This was just a hair behind the #2 spot. Candidly I would rank this higher but my wife found the dryness unacceptable and I never win an argument with her. #2 Borscht Belt in Newtown cost $10 for a half loaf. This is a softer texture if that is your thing. My wife liked the texture but I like a chewier crust and heartier bread. I don't know that this bread will hold up to a mound of meat or wet toppings. The flavor was terrific. If you don't mind spending $10 for a half loaf of bread, then give it a try. I'm saving for retirement so probably won't return anytime soon. #1 [Top Spot] Manny's Famous Deli in Holland cost $4.50 for a half loaf. Winner winner chicken dinner. This is the fan favorite and a must try for anyone that values a good bread. Manny's offers the gold standard of ryes and at a price that leaves enough money to also buy a deli pickle. Let us know if you would like us to assess another favorite food. Even better, are you convinced you have a favorite? Put your conviction to the test and conduct a blind tasting of your own.

Yelp
Very glad I finally returned to The. Borscht Belt Deli which had relocated from Stockton, NJ to my hometown, Newtown. What a different time can make, not to mention a new home. The floor plan is standard in design with tables along one wall and deli counter along the other. Order/pay in the back, take possession up front if going out, or at your table if eating in. Hard to miss the white ceramic tile floor and the aroma of smoked meat and fish resting in the chill case. Service was attentive (even friendly), and the time from walking in to walking out, less than ten minutes. I ordered an Onion Bagel with Veggie Smear and World Famous Potato Latkes with little cups of sour cream and apple sauce. Everything was nicely packaged with heavy white and brown paper and recyclable clamshell snap close box. Cool touch to put the bagel in a cocoon and slice through the wrapping to allow each half bagel to be held cleanly before the mange. Also, the onion flakes on the bagel skin were a mix of crisp and soft, creating both a textural and flavor combination unique to these bad boys. Every bagelmeister should consider this style, as it is an interesting addition to the traditional bagel. The chomp and munch were equally enjoyable. The Latkes were the dense variety, and tastyfilling. I generally prefer a lighter body, perhaps of rougher gauge grate that allows more nooks and crannies to crisp when fried in hot oil. Still, I liked them, especially the apple sauce accompaniment which was a dark sauce with added cinnamon. Tasty! Prices are high, but worth the splurge every once in a while.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Borscht Belt Delicatessen at their new location in Newton, Pennsylvania. It was a special experience. As a fan of Eastern European and Jewish cuisine, I was captivated by the restaurant's promise to bring the flavors of the Borscht Belt to life. I am pleased to report that they delivered on their promise. Upon entering the delicatessen, I found a warm and inviting atmosphere. I met the owners, family members, and mingled with customers. It's a party. I would characterize the decor as a modern throwback to the Catskills with vintage photographs combined with colors of Miami South Beach. The staff was friendly and attentive, eager to make sure we would have a great experience. Moving to the food, I was delighted by the variety and authenticity of options. Being there for breakfast, we decided on the Concord and the Browns. For each sandwich, we customized with an Essa sesame seed bagel. These are true NY bagels not some weak copy. We ate half of our large sandwiches and brought the rest home. The Concord was comprised of exceptional baked salmon salad, delicious nova lox, horseradish cream cheese onions, tomatoes and capers. The horeradish cream cheese and capers added a contemporary spin to a classic sandwich and worked perfectly. Turning to the Browns, it was also an excellent creation. With all that said, one suggestion is that the nova should be sliced thinner. In addition, we took out house roasted turkey, coleslaw, half a rye bread and a slice of chocolate babka. The turkey and coleslaw were incredible. The chocolate babka is top tier and is everything I want in a babka...starting with lots of chocolate! I cannot wait to return to try more from the menu. I highly recommend paying a visit to the Borscht Belt Delicatessen in Newtown, PA. You won't be disappointed!

Devon K.

Yelp
I was looking for a bagel with cream cheese and lox around Newtown and this place did not disappoint. The options all looked incredible, and my bagel was absolutely scrumptious. Everything was so fresh! The man who took our order and made our sandwiches was so friendly and kind (I wish I asked for his name). He even drew a smiley face on the wrappings which made my day. I cannot wait to come back and try more things here- I absolutely LOVED it!! 10/10 :)

Tonya P.

Yelp
The Borscht Belt makes me want to convert. Just by looking at the images, you know it will be good, then when your order arrives, it's even better. Yes, I ordered an egg cream first thing in the morning because it was on the menu. I ordered a sesame bagel with scallion cream and the scallions were chopped fresh and magical. I also asked for a taste of the Szechuan crispy chili and the horseradish cream cheese and both were so good and balanced. They would be delicious on sandwiches. Service was friendly, in fact everyone was super friendly. I am on a road trip, I might have to stop in Newtown on the way home too. This is one of those perfect restaurants with a clear vision.

Tony M.

Yelp
A very good place to get a great sandwich. Got a pastrami on rye and a Rubin and they were delicious. I enjoyed the people working there as well.

Scooter G.

Yelp
Nice place, Portions were small. Pickle bar would have been nice for the price we paid.

Coco S.

Yelp
I was born and bred in NYC and this is nothing like an authentic New York deli! Three words, pre-sliced corned beef! My family and I tried numerous menu items and honestly cannot say anything positive. I really wanted to like this place.

Joanne M.

Yelp
Went for lunch there today with my daughter in law...so good! I ordered the Reuben with hot pastrami and she ordered potato latkas! Tony was so nice! The food was served within a few minutes and was delicious! For dessert the chocolate baba cake...out of this world! So glad we made it to this deli! I've heard how great it is and it did not disappoint! I'll be back!

Jonathan S.

Yelp
Update: still love this place, but they don't disclose that there is a 3 percent service charge added to all checks.

Debby H.

Yelp
I can't exactly put my finger on why we were less than satisfied, but I'll try. We had been so eager to try Borscht Belt. Yes it's pricey..$50 for a pound of Halva? Maybe we were seeking more traditional flavors and preparations. I've often said that you really can't judge a restaurant by one meal (unless the service is atrocious or the place is unsanitary etc), so I'm assuming the next meal with different selections could be a totally different experience. My friend ordered an egg cream (good) and had at least a 10 minute wait at the counter trying to get some mustard to liven up her sandwich. She left most of hers uneaten. I ordered a Rachel without cheese. I didn't realize it was grilled which was a plus. The seeded rye bread also a plus. The pastrami was ok; the coleslaw was really not to our taste with red cabbage and not a dressing I could define. We've lived in PA Dutch country a long time and are used to the finely chopped and sweetened slaw most Jewish delis serve. This was not that at all. I took my leftovers home but decided I didn't like them enough to eat them. A waste! Score big for the large slab of chocolate babka! We loved it. I'm sure I'll give the restaurant another chance perhaps when they open the rumored Newtown location closer to me. No coleslaw or pastrami, but there are many other things to try.

Cynthia R.

Yelp
First time at the Newton location (we've been to Stockton previously) and the quality and taste is just as amazing. Our waitress was great and very attentive. The owner even stopped by our takes to ask how things were and if we needed anything. My favorite is the chopped liver, I could just eat it with a spoon!

Matthew C.

Yelp
The food and people are FANTASTIC! You get what you pay for here people! I took my 70-year-old picky mom from New York and she was in love! PHEW! So was I! The owner Nick Liberato was fantastic too! GO! Just GO, now!

Rachel R.

Yelp
I thought this was actually really good! It's certainly not Katz in NYC, but I appreciated the gluten free bagels and thought the pastrami was good enough. It's maybe not *great*, but I haven't found anywhere that's better in the area, and the combination of that + the gluten free everything bagel, coleslaw and Russian dressing was delicious. The staff was kind (albeit slightly slow), there was plenty of seating, and the sandwich I got was filling enough that it lasted me 2 meals. The cashier told us that they now give 1/2 pound pastrami on the sandwiches versus the 2/3 they used to give and asked if we wanted the old amount of meat at the same rate which I thought was kind. (We opted to keep the 1/2- the sandwiches we got had plenty of meat and none of us could finish our sandwiches.) The fries were just OK and would've been better as steak fries but that's built in portion control I suppose. ;)

Jennifer H.

Yelp
This place could use some fine-tuning. Ordered Kellerman Sandwich & custom Roast Beef Sandwich. Both were light on meat & Kellerman was either missing turkey portion of 3-meat combo, or there was so little it was undetectable. Both sandwiches had great flavor & we did enjoy them... Enough to return 2 days later for same order, this time packed with meat & Kellerman had all its components. Still, some meat was sliced thin while some thick-cut, which disturbs the texture of the sandwich. I would expect an acclaimed chef, who as part of his career evaluates the food presentation of others in the industry, to understand how important attention to detail & consistency is. He was present on both occasions so these mishaps are occurring right under his nose. The cost was over $50 for 2 deli sandwiches, shot glass size of macaroni salad, & pudding cup size of Junior's cheesecake; not even drinks. This is more expensive than Greenberg's Deli in Las Vegas. You can't charge Vegas prices & deliver Jersey Mikes. The aesthetics are beautiful! Stepping inside is like being on Jewish Deli, The Ride at Walt Disney World. But at end of day, I'm here for the food, not the marketing. I support this business & hope these kinks get worked out soon, so I can look forward to a return visit.

Yelp
As a 61 year old Brooklyn boy who spent time in the Borscht Belt from the late 60's until the mid 80's, I can vouch for the authenticity of the ambiance of this restaurant. The food brought me back to my youth. The service was amazing. Talking with Nick, the co-owner, was truly enjoyable as he took my effusive compliments well. In closing, I'd like to give the Borscht Belt my highest compliment; my Dad would have loved it!

Joseph O.

Yelp
Excellent French toast, and fresh squeezed OJ. Friendly service. Very clean. Will return.

Karen M.

Yelp
The food is excellent. Although sometimes served cold. But I'm wondering if that's because of the staff. They are not trained properly. All look confused and don't know the difference between white salad and tuna salad. Food takes forever to be served and when it is, it's usually incomplete or late. They typically promote giving pickles at the table, but that usually shows up after you've already finished your meal. There are a tremendous amount of flies in the restaurant during the summer spring and fall a little confused by that is.

Susan R.

Yelp
The menu is great (something for everyone) We had the White fish platter. It was very fresh. I love the accessories /Gifts around the store and the pictures are the best. The service is great too! A must visit

Mike Z.

Yelp
Came in with my wife this week to have some coffee and bagels. We also got some cream cheese and lox to go. Such an amazing experience and such great staff. Im looking forward to coming back for lunch next week.

Matt K.

Yelp
Don't get me wrong, the food is delicious and the staff are great, but the prices will leave a bad taste in your mouth. Maybe that doesn't matter now, but let's see how long this place lasts after the novelty wears off. Over $30 for a turkey ruben, bag of chips and a drink Over $20 for a bagel w/ lox, cream cheese and a simple brewed coffee. The bagel was better than anything locally but subpar compared to what you would get in NYC despite being imported from NYC

Bryan B.

Yelp
Awesome food. I love this place. Pastrami is the best. Excellent service. If you haven't tried the matzoh ball soup, please go out of your way and try it.

Corrine B.

Yelp
Had a great lunch at the Borscht Belt! My grandma is from Brooklyn NY, she said it tasted just like New York. She doesn't waste her time with pastrami from places "around here" because it's crap. But this...amazing. I also wanted to say, as a waitress and daughter of a man that managed a restaurant( and is now a chef) I really appreciated seeing the owner Nick, run around and bus tables. You are never too big for a job that needs to get done. That is what my dad taught me! We will be back and tell everyone we know!

Ryan G.

Yelp
Not much into sandwich because of temp or texture of taste somehow I don't if food is cold or too hot but could use a little fix

Linda R.

Yelp
I've been here three times now. Twice for takeout and once eat in. The food and service are great! The bagels yummy and the cream cheese spread is light and flavorful! I had a breakfast sandwich that was packed with delicious egg, bacon and cheese. Oh my it was divine! My eat in experience was also great! My sister and I were experimenting with some new (to us) foods. I asked the service what pastrami is and she very kindly explained and then offered me a sample along with a corned beef sample so I could compare. Oh my! Pastrami is my new favorite! So full of flavor! The restaurant itself is bright and cheerful and super clean! Nick came out to chat for a bit which was a treat! Super friendly guy! The prices are very high but worth it for a treat every now and then! I will be back!

Meg R.

Yelp
We visited The Borscht Belt for lunch yesterday. The first thing I noticed was the decor. The restaurant was bright and welcoming. We loved the atmosphere! Our server was outstanding. She was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious! We had the matzo ball soup to start. The broth was flavorful and the texture of the matzo ball was just right. We had the tuna melt and the Concord. Both sandwiches were delicious. The rye breadon the melt and the bialy on the Concord were fresh and toasted perfectly. We took slices of chocolate babka to go, which did not disappoint. We cannot wait to return!

S N.

Yelp
It's a soft opening, so I really don't feel like I can do anything but make a suggestion or two. We picked up this morning and our order was short some pastrami. My husband went back and they made it right and gave him a piece of the most heavenly chocolate Babka I have ever had for the inconvenience. The pastrami itself was absolutely for the gods. It was soft, perfectly flavored and made an amazing sandwich on their delicious rye bread from Rockland bakery. I tried all the salads (before 11 o'clock in the morning) just to see if they were good. I absolutely love the cucumber salad, Chrip, sweet, And full of sunshine on a fork. The coleslaw was beautiful. Every color of cabbage in a perfectly seasoned dressing. The Health salad was also delicious, however, it was dry, none of that yummy dressing to keep it sweet and crisp in the fridge. The potato salad was the biggest disappointment, but there's time to rescue it. Potatoes were totally overcooked so it's more like mashed potatoes, in a container. The corn beef was flavorful, but a little tough. I definitely think it will benefit from reheating using some steam to serve on a sandwich. My biggest disappointment was the sable. At $70 a pound it should definitely be served trimmed. No customer should be served the dry end at that price. We will definitely come back again when the door is officially open. Looking forward to trying a Knish,, bilintz, and a potato pancake. Glad it's finally open. This area really needed a good Jewish deli.

Yelp
Best tuna salad sandwich around! The pickles and coleslaw served with your food are a definite plus!

Yelp
I waited (impatiently) for The Borscht Belt to finish their renovation of the space - they finally opened when I was away on vacation. I made sure to visit when I returned and was blown away by the great, retro vibe of the space. They really went all out in recreating the feel of a classic NY Jewish-style deli. But the food is on another level. It's the corned beef and brisket we remember, but with a modern twist. Everything is cooked fresh and they serve Ess-A-Bagels - omg - you have not had a real bagel until you've had one, trust me. At most delis, my husband jokes, "That's not a bagel, that's a ROLL." Well, these bagels are the best we've had without having to drive 2 hours to NYC to visit my mother-in-law and visit Ess-A-Bagel. Everything is the best of the best. And the staff is uniformly excellent. Everyone we've encountered has been welcoming and helpful and attentive. My MIL is a tough customer - needs her food HOT, and they jumped to please her. We've ordered holiday takeout (excellent latkes and apple sauce, chicken noodle soup, etc.) and eaten at the restaurant many times now. So lucky to have this great place in Newtown - I only wish they could extend their hours to include dinner service. Did I mention the cool decor? The neon sign in the window, evoking the vibe of the Catskills, is especially wonderful. Love this place. I saw they had a comedy event recently - I was bummed I couldn't go (again, with the MIL! We had plans with her and she takes precedence.) I hope they do another one.

Yelp
Finally fought the weekend masses to check this place out.....and it's just ok. The Challah French Toast is way overpriced for 1 piece. It was smothered in a berry compote that overpowers the bread and started to make it soggy. Ideally would have preferred it with butter/syrup and the compote on the side. For $12+ or whatever it was.....definitely not worth it. More disappointment with the latkes.... They were overly oily and "mushy". I don't get why they call them famous bc there are way better latkes in the area, that are crispy and cooked right. 50/50 sandwich was bland and had dry pieces of meat on it, like it was sliced earlier and sitting out in the open. Just bummed overall - wouldn't make the trip back. Staff was super friendly and kind, though!

Yelp
You must try the chocolate babka. It is beyond decadent. It should carry a warning label that you will be addicted to it after just one taste. The Reuben is fantastic. A must. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Amazing deli! The food is some of the best I have ever had. As a New Yorker, this makes me feel like I am back home (especially with those Ess-a-Bagels! The food is always fresh and never disappoints. I have been here many times and plan on going back many more times.

Yelp
I almost didn't eat here because I only saw it had 3.9 stars (not bad but obviously not what I expected for a new deli in town). Unfortunately for the restaurant, people only review what they don't like which based on what I read is just pricing. I'm so glad I looked past the initial rating to read the comments because they were absolutely right when it came to the food itself. This deli deserves 5 stars. The flavor combinations on their sandwiches are absolutely out of this world. I tried The Raleigh, the Banh MitZvah, the hot dog, French fries and macaroni salad. I can truly say that all of the food is worth the price point that seems to lose this place the accolades it deserves. I had no problem paying the price I did for the quantity and flavor of food I got. I can't wait to eat here again for breakfast.

Yelp
My pastrami on rye was delicious. Not the prettiest or most overstuffed out there but the flavor and juiciness was great. Plus can't beat the location. And where else you gonna find a good egg cream around here?

Yelp
This could have been better. The way I see it, you have two choices opening what is essentially just a classic Jewish deli in 2021. You can make it all about super faithful and tasty renditions of deli food, or you can design an interesting and fun experience where food is just one of the things that's going on. I don't think selling $20 pastrami sandwiches in what looks like a WeWork really cuts it. I know this place was lambasted by the Russ & Daughters people before they opened--totally unfairly--and I'm sure they had to make some game-time changes to their concept to get to opening day. (Russ & Daughters didn't invent the Jewish deli, or signs with chasing lights on them, but that's a topic for another review.) You want to root for a place like this. On the day we were there the dining room was packed. The kitchen was full to bursting with busy-looking employees. Even so, the fries we ordered were forgotten then had to be made on the fly. When they arrived they were hot, but they were also Sysco frozen fries. This is a small thing, yeah, but why not make fresh fries to sell with $20 sandwiches? Conversely, if you don't sell enough orders of fries to enable you to not have to fire each order one by one, why not just 86 them altogether? My sandwich was fine. It wasn't worth another two hour drive from the city for, but it was ok. But you could go to any generic, fluorescent-lit diner in the tri-state area and get the same food. In the end I guess the concept is just lost on me. Why go to so much trouble and expense designing a space like this to just have ho-hum, diner caliber food? I understand needing to make a splash--I mean, it would be hard to make the kind of headlines this place has if it had opened in a strip mall with drop ceilings and vinyl booths. However, as I've said before, riding a hype wave is only part (or should only be part) of opening a new restaurant. Ultimately at this time this place is a very expensive interior decorating project with fairly boring food. I don't care about celebrity chefs or well-heeled serial entrepreneurs. I'm interested in hospitality and food. This place lacks in both of those departments. I can't eat a business plan or a list of investors.

Yelp
Stepped out of sleepy beautiful Stockton NJ/Bucks County PA back into Manhattan as we stepped over the threshold into The Borscht Belt Deli. Wow, the thoughtful idyllic deli design and the signage, the old 60s photos along the seating area, and the idyllic product brands on display. All quintessential deli food memories. My favorite- Fix-u-bet chocolate syrup. Haha. Food wise, hence why we are here--- excellent. We opt to take home as Ingredients do make our own sandwiches for the week. However, how could we not sit out front and enjoy a pastrami on rye with a heavenly round kinish. Was delicious. Brought home matzo ball soup and a black and white cookie. Looking forward to trying the white fish next time back.

Yelp
My son and I decided to try someplace we haven't been before. I like the cleanness of the place, we were greeted quickly. The food tasted good. I ordered a cheesesteak and my son ordered the Rueben. His words were this is just too much I agree it is a heavy sandwich to pick up and hold and a lot more meat than I want to consume for lunch. I wish there were healthier options or you could have a petite sandwich and just charge me less.. $21 for a Rueben, $18 for a cheesesteak seems like a lot just for sandwiches and no sides? With sides and two drinks the whole check was a surprise plus tip, ‍ alot more than I expect to pay for deli lunches. I also ordered the Mexican chai latte.. hot. They brought it to me cold, no biggie but.. it was a little unexpected. I was expecting more of a Mexican milk hot chocolate with chai, cinnamon and spices.. but this was kinda watery, not milky or creamy like a latte usually is so it was kinda watery with spices on top.. this might taste better if you make it like a hot chocolate with the chai, turmeric, cocoa, cinnamon spices. Just a suggestion it will taste yummy. We also order latkes. These were jumbo. Just a thought to have maybe four thinner crispy latkes instead of these thick jumbo mashed potato latkes. I did really love the apple sauce that came with them. The French fries were tasty. All in all it was good but a little too pricy for me.

Yelp
Great authentic Jewish deli this side of the bridge and tunnel. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Went at an off peak time and ended up waiting 30 minutes for 2 egg and cheese sandwiches. One was supposed to be on a challah roll and it ended up on rye. For the price, the sandwich was not really great, kind of greasy. My husband got his on a bagel and that was decent. Overall a little disappointing.
