First meet with Hubbers' group post COVID-19 surge.
It's been years, and after weeks of planning, a date was finally set and peeps came from all parts of California, Texas, even as far as New York just to make this happen!
The Bottle Inn was the choice for this year's holiday luncheon. Reservations made and boom, we were all together once again.
It was a cool but sunny SoCal day so seating outside with a view of the beautiful ocean couldn't be more perfect. It was a bit chilly for my taste, but I wasn't worried: they had outdoor heaters available.
I got the chance to take a look at the menu before coming through, so I knew exactly what I wanted. Those who came ahead of us took the liberty of ordering breads as well as apps to share with everyone, so that was great ideas since I was able to try everything I wanted to try without over-ordering!
BRUSCHETTA POMODORO: Fresh tomatoes and perfect blend of basil, olive oil, garlic, balsamic vinegar and seasoning. It was good starter! I wish I took a picture!
CAPRESE: Like the bruschetta, also fresh and well balanced. The mozzarella was creamy and the basil added a bit of kick. The balsamic glaze had great sweet and salty tart. I would recommend this as well.
CALAMARI FRITTI: Nothing out of the ordinary. Typical of its breaded and fried taste. It wasn't bad, but average at best.
LOBSTER ANGEL HAIR: Disappointing. I looked forward to this dish for weeks and it was a complete let down. It looked fantastic, that IS true, but that's as far is it went. It lacked flavor, overall, that it took away from the quality (and the generous amount) of lobster that came with the plate. The sauce was bland - there was very little (if any) flavor of garlic, not even a hint. The creamy sauce was simply flavorless. Adding fresh Parmesan and fresh crushed black pepper didn't help. I couldn't even get through a third of the plate. I decided to take the rest home and made an attempt to fix it. At one moment, I wished I had the same spectacular experience as my fellow Yelpers' had with it. I was the exception, I suppose. The pasta was cooked perfect, though, at least they got that right!
FOOD: 3. 4 for the apps, 2 for my main dish.
SERVICE: 4. Above average. Friendly staff. Happy to be of service with matching smiles.
VALUE: 4. Really reasonable most especially for this beautiful location.
PARKING: Metered street parking only. Extra busy on the weekends. Plan accordingly.
OVERALL: 3.5.
Hubbers enjoyed his rigatoni. I got the chance to try it and that bite came with flavor poppin' all over the place. He cleaned up his plate well - understandably so.
I would return for the apps. The lobster pasta: not so much. But who knows: I might give it another go should I find myself in these digs again, even if it's just to compare. Redemption might still be at hand.
