Before we even got in the door, the doorman gave my husband grief about wearing sandals to attend a (comedy) show - "This is a theater. Do you have different shoes in the car?" - and was rude to me for being annoyed about his condescending attitude. We regularly attend all kinds of theater in LA, and have never once had an issue with our attire being inappropriate. He did eventually let us in, but yeah, it was not a great first impression.
Once we got inside, the doors were not open for the theater yet even though the door time was listed as a half hour before we arrived. We waited around in a disorganized sort of line before they finally opened the doors 40 minutes late, and took their time seating each party individually. In the meantime, we saw plenty of other men wearing sandals, so I guess the doorman was very busy lecturing people that evening.
Our waitress was friendly, but we had to ask for cups for the water on the table, and the cups that came ended up being plastic. The food was passable, but overpriced. Our waitress did not bring the bill until the very end of the show, when we were all in a hurry, and lumped our bill in with our friend's. She also didn't show us the itemized receipt, so I couldn't see that there was automatic gratuity included, and I ended up tipping her much more than I intended. I will say that other sections seemed to have better waitstaff who brought their checks earlier, so we may have just had bad luck with her.
The show itself was excellent, and I would love to see it again, but if they do it at this venue, it's gonna be a pass for me. There are too many great comedy theaters in this city to deal with places like this.
