Bowery Bar Is Open in Lower Mills - Eater Boston

"The Bowery Bar opened in Dorchester’s Lower Mills neighborhood, filling the space left by Ester. It is the latest venue from restaurateur Julian Bolger, who has other establishments around Boston. While the menu has not been officially shared, early reviews suggest offerings like large tater tots, a cheese dip, a kale salad, and fruity cocktails. Reviews praise the patio, which was also a notable feature of the former establishment, Ester." - Terrence Doyle

(Visited, 3/2/2025) I booked this cute experience for a group of friends and me to enjoy a cozy brunch — and it ended up being so much more than I expected. I had heard the food was great, so I trusted that part, but I was really looking for a private, comfortable space where we could relax and connect. This setup delivered on both fronts. Despite the cold weather outside, the space was warm and inviting. It was beautifully decorated and thoughtfully arranged, making it feel both stylish and intimate. Our server, Ana, was incredible — attentive and patient the whole time. Since our group didn’t all arrive at the same time, she stayed on top of things, making sure everyone was served seamlessly as they joined. We kicked things off with the nachos, adding chicken. It was a good appetizer — enough for all eight of us to get a taste, but if you’re looking to start with something hearty, you might want to order an extra plate. For my main dish, I had the Steak and Eggs Bowl. The eggs were cooked perfectly (I asked for hard scrambled), and the steak was tender and juicy. Every bite was packed with flavor. A few things to know before you go: • Reservations: They require a deposit to book, which gets applied to your final bill. • Minimum spend: There’s a minimum spend per group, based on the yurt’s size. • Parking: Street parking was easier than I expected — no issues finding a spot. I’d absolutely come back. The food, the ambiance, and the meaningful, candid conversations we had in that cozy little space made this an unforgettable experience.

Google
Nice spot in Dorchester on Dorchester Avenue. Large windows, dim lighting, nice ambience probably a hotspot in the summer because they have a patio. Service was friendly.. I had a beet salad with steak added to it. It would’ve been perfect if it didn’t have so much dressing on it it was way too wet and sweet. My friend had the wings they were awesome. other folks around the bar were ordering the burgers also nachos, which looked really good. The presentation of the espresso martini looked and tasted spectacular.!

Google
My family and I had such a great experience at the Bowery thanks to our amazing waitress Lydia! She was hilarious—kept us laughing the whole time—and truly knew the menu inside and out. She had fantastic recommendations and could describe everything in mouth-watering detail. It makes such a difference to have someone so knowledgeable (and so much fun!) taking care of you. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
Anna was absolutely amazing she was so sweet and accommodating. She was swift with her service and at every time we needed something she was on top of it. The food was delicious I wish I could say more but there are not enough words to say how amazing it was. I will definitely be recommending this place and will be back soon.

Google
My fourth time at the Bowery Bar and people keep coming back for a reason. You have to get the crab Rangoon dip, which is itself worth the price of admission. Their cocktail selections change all the time so you're always being surprised. I, however, will not get the Farmers' Omelet - it was a little dry and springy but not representative of the amazing quality of food that this fantastic place serves.

Google
I liked the vibe in this restaurant. I liked the fact that their kitchen was open until 11:00 pm. The waitress that served us was a professional but friendly person. We ordered fish and chips, steak and avocado bowl for our food, and espresso vodka and tequila for our drinks. I loved my steak bowl, however, I preferred adding some salt to my salad. The fish and chips was good. The portion of the food was enough and the price was fair. If you want to eat there, think about some time for parking.

Google
We went for Mother’s Day brunch today the second year in a row. I had the brunch bowl, which was delicious and my husband had the tuna poke bowl which was also yummy. Kids were happy with their meals. I went here initially because I always loved the patio when the Ledge was here. I came back for the food and the patio which is different now but still lovely. I like that there aren’t too many TVs. The service was great and I appreciated the chocolate covered strawberry as a special treat for moms. We wandered after to Dorchester Park and the kids enjoyed the playground. Definitely recommend!

Google
Lydia was incredible. I admit, I am a terrible PITA. But when I wanted my drink in a different glass than what she served it in (c’mon who drinks a cocktail in a tall glass?) she was sweet and accommodating. No loud sigh, no eye roll. Just turned my “tall drink” into a martini and I was a happy girl 🤗

Yelp
Food was amazing. Lots of GF and GFM choices Appetizers: we had lemon pepper chicken wings (GF) and satay chicken (GF). Entrees: steak & avocado salad, kale & berry salad w/chicken, grilled chicken sando w/sweet potato fries. Drinks: Maine Lunch, Espresso Martini, glass of CA Cabernet Hostess, Bartender, Waitstaff, Kitchen, and manager all appeared to be enjoying the customers and their jobs!! We sat inside with open front windows. But the patio is huge and looked very inviting too.

Yelp
The ambiance is cute, but the food has been blah. I ordered a burger here twice and it was overcooked everytime. (If I'm wasting calories on a burger, I want it to be excellent.) This place has an excellent reputation, but I'm not quiet sure what all of the fuss is about. Worse, we recently closed on a house nearby, and noticed they have an outdoor patio. We have a dog, and really enjoy walking her to dog friendly restaurants for brunch on the weekend. She get tired out, and it makes for a fun thing to do. We asked, repeatedly, if the patio was dog friendly. We described the size of the dog, and specified, while well trained, she is not a service animal. We were assured repeatedly that the dog would be allowed in the patio. So we showed up confidently with aforementioned dog and we're told the patio was not dog friendly. Honestly, it was embarrassing. We aren't trying to be difficult or break any rules. We are from NY, where pretty much any outdoor dining is dog friendly. I understand this is absolutely not the case in Boston, which is why I make sure to call ahead or ask when I'm in the restaurant dining with humans only, lol. Fortunately, Steel and Rye up the way permits dogs for outdoor dining. We will probably avoid this place for the foreseeable future.

Yelp
Great brunch spot. Option for indoor or outdoor dining. Great staff, creative drinks, cool crowd and good food. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Good beer selections. Hot chicken sandwich delicious but a little messy like hot wings

Yelp
The yurt experience was spectacular. Great service and immaculate vibes. Some of my highlights were the sauvy B sangria, PJ espresso martini, and arancini. Our entrees were okay, but not amazing. We got steak tips and short rib Mac and cheese. The experience was worth it though, the heaters worked pretty well so we could take off our jackets and just snuggle with the blanket that they have in the yurt. This is great for a special occasion

Yelp
This has to be one of my favorite restaurants in Boston, so much I made sure it was my first and last stop the last time I was in Boston. Their menu is filled with delicious treasures so make sure you go ready to have amazing drinks, appetizers, and mains. The restaurant has a cool indoor aesthetic and has a patio area in the back that will make you feel like you are in a backyard. The Pain Killah from the Bowery. Made with Pusser's Navy Rum, OJ, Coconut, and Pineapple Nutmeg. At the first sip of this drink, I felt like I was on a tropical Christmas. The pineapple nutmeg is creamy and pleasantly balanced. The rum is present and blends in perfectly with the other elements. Crab Rangoon Dip is DELICIOUS. Very creamy and the crab is fresh. The crab taste is not overpowering and is very creamy. Paired with the Fried Wontons is a MUST-HAVE. The Spinach Dip from the Bowery Bar is at the TOP is my list of spinach dips. Is so good we had to go back to get it again. Made of their house cheese blend, caramelized onions, and paired with pita bread. Is so cheesy and creamy. The Mac & Cheese from the Bowery is heavenly. Made of Smoked Gouda, Ritz Cracker Crumbs, and Fresh Herbs it will leave a memorable impression. The shell-shaped pasta serves as a perfect boat for the cheese sauce. Next time I'm in Boston I will be going back to the Bowery for it. Their New England Lobster Roll was my first time having a lobster roll and it was a memorable one, to say the least. The soft brioche bun shelters the DELICIOUS and fresh lobster combined with the crunch of the lettuce and the celery. The lobster was the main attraction of the dish and it did not disappoint, it was nice and fresh and the taste was not overpowering. Paired with some crisp fries. Pj's Espresso Martini from The Bowery Bar is made with Vanilla Vodka, Irish cream, coffee liqueur, and fresh espresso. Is well balanced and pleasant. The vodka is present, but not overpowering. The coffee and the Irish cream blend smoothly and create a harmonious balance.

Yelp
Great food, great service, amazing staff! I love the ambiance of the back patio! It's got tvs to watch the games and fire things for the chilly nights! I love sitting at the bar outside it's always my favorite!

Yelp
The bowery is a great place to grab food and drinks! I went with some friends and we ordered the crab rangoon wonton dip, I got the rigatoni fredo with chicken, and some drinks. My favorite was the rigatoni fredo! It was the perfect temperature, as I like my food on the hotter side and the flavors all meshed really well together. The chicken was cooked well too and was not dry which was lovely. Our server was super nice and accommodating. Overall, we had a positive experience at the Bowery and would definitely come back soon!

Yelp
We came for brunch and got to sit in the super cute yurt. It was a little chilly when we came in but it was kept warm with space heaters. Everything in the brunch menu was delicious! We started off with the cinnamon rolls. They hit the spot - soft and just sweet enough. I got the hangover bowl - I'd recommend it! A few friends got the breakfast sandwiches. The home fries were crispy so I especially enjoyed that. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The staff were nice and attentive (and we were out of their way out back!).
google avatar

Yelp
I really like the food and back patio. The service could be improved by a lot. The hostess stand is disorganized and unwelcoming. The servers disappear. It's a good spot that could be great if the service improves.
google avatar

Yelp
Great vibe and energy. They currently have a St Patrick's Day special. Parking can be found on the street with meter parking. Great bar with amazing staff and selection of beers and spirits. We had the Buffalo wings and the pork belly baos to start off. Both $16 each and both were flavorful and well seasoned. We shared the Burger deluxe, very large size with the whole nine yards in the burger. I just wish they had bacon in it.

Sarah D.

Yelp
My all time favorite nachos. Lots of gluten free options (including the lovely nachos). Service is always great and fast. Great espresso martini
google avatar

Maggie L.

Yelp
Delicious food, friendly service, lively and casual vibes, what more could you possibly ask for? The carnitas nachos were absolute fire, and the pickled onions were a really nice touch and helped to balance out the overall dish so it didn't feel too greasy and heavy. The tator tots reminded me more of fried mashed potato balls rather than the grated texture I'm more used to, but it still tasted divine (I mean you really can't go wrong with deep fried potatoes in any way, shape, or form). Have heard from others who had ordered the caprese sandwich, burgers, and steak frites that they really enjoyed their dishes and would definitely be coming back. If you're looking for a casual spot around Dorchester/Quincy to grab a drink or snacks/dinner, look no further cause this place is it!! Also, never had to look far or long for street parking.

Yelp
Hands down one of favorite places to go. The atmosphere is great - good place to watch sports at the bar or in a booth. The outside patio is fun in the warm weather (even late Fall) as well. The menu changes periodically for seasonal food and drink options. They have a great beer and cocktail menu as well. We go here a few times a month and it's always a good time.

Yelp
Hesitated coming here for a long time due to on and off reviews but gave it a try! It didn't disappoint. I would honestly give it a 3.6/5 due to the price because of the add-on. Ordered a watermelon marg, the Burger Deluxe, The Yardbird, and a cookie skillet for dessert. Let me start off with, the flavors did not disappoint! Only complaint was maybe the sweet potato fries I had a bit too much salt for my bf and I's liking. The burger was gigantic! Flavor was great, a bit too many onions, but the patty wasn't over cooked which was great for a medium. I did however add bacon and an egg and each were $2-$3.. a bit excessive I believe. The Yardbird was also super flavorful! Wasn't expecting it to be. A little messy to eat and the bottom bum ended up being a bit soggy. Again, a bit generous with the avocado that it was overpowering. Lastly, cookie skillet was great. Great size, taste great. Warm and delicious. And for $9, honestly not too bad. So overall 3.6 because it was good, above average, but not 4 stars to be great. The prices of the burger ended up being almost $25... so not great

Margaret H.

Yelp
Great local restaurant. We especially love it in the warm (but not hot) weather when we can eat outside in the lovely backyard setting. Food is great and reasonably priced. Lots of gluten free options . Wonderful service!

Yelp
Meeting some friends here for Sunday brunch was a good idea. The weather was perfect, the traffic was light, and back patio was quaint. I started with a sparkling rose, while my friends got different versions of margaritas. We started with the loaded guacamole. Holy cow that was good! I'm not sure I'll ever be satisfied with regular guacamole again. All the fixins they added made it like a delicious 7 layer dip and we ate every morsel. Among what we ordered were a burger, Baja chicken sandwich, a salmon salad, and fish tacos. All looked amazing and my fish tacos were tasty but I can't wait to try that Baja chicken sandwich. I was drooling watching my friend tear into it. Our service was acceptable although a little slow, but we were chatting away so it wasn't too noticeable. I think parking was a little challenging but I would easily come back here. Cute place and great food!
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
Hands down best nachos (with buffalo chicken) I've ever had. The Samoa coffee was also incredible. We went for brunch and the menu is actual perfection; I can't wait to go back and try more things!

Yelp
Gorgeous sunny April day. Outdoors seating for 7. Mmmm!!!!!!!! The sun. The vibe. The chill. The food. The service. Good God, it felt wonderful. Haven't been here in ? Yeah! That long. We had a wonderful lunch. Burgers, honey chicken and fish n chips. Alllll good. Great service and yurts.
google avatar

Antony A.

Yelp
Great food. Get the crab wonton. All starters can be your main meal. Chicken sandwich cooked perfectly. Drinks are a advertised as top shelf but not prepared well enough to be considered top shelf. A classic sports bar feel. Reasonable service.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped here on our way back into the city from Newport. I have been wanting to try this place for a while and it did not disappoint. I loved everything about our experience. It would have been nice to sit outside but it was raining. Their outside patio is so cute and their inside dining area has major vibes. Our waitress was so nice. We were absolutely exhausted after our trip and she made stopping for food worth it. The food was amazing. Their menu has everything you could possibly want from a bar and tastes fabulous. If I had a car I would venture out of the city every week to come here!
google avatar

Syeda H.

Yelp
Came here for brunch and sat in the patio area. First impression, the patio is very well decorated and has a great atmosphere. I found the food to be just ok in comparison to the decor. We ordered the half tray of nachos, the crab Rangoon dip, and the steak and avocado salad. Out of the three, the nachos were the best item. The crab Rangoon dip was very heavy and I felt that the wontons should be cut to a smaller size so that it's easier to eat. Although the steak salad looked beautiful, it was lacking in flavor. Overall nice place with good ambience but mediocre food.
google avatar

Amber T.

Yelp
Had a good experience here and really enjoyed my food, drinks, and atmosphere. I did ask for my burger medium rare and it came well done, and I also asked for just plain guacamole without the extra toppings because I can't eat dairy and it still came out regular. I would still come back but they're not too attentive
google avatar

Yelp
I LOVE this place. I can't tell you how many times I've gone. I've gone for both breakfast and lunch but not for dinner yet. I've tried the breakfast sammie--so so yummy. My favorite dishes to get are the Crab Ragoon Dip, Sweet Potato Fries and the Cobb Salad. Their fish tacos are good too, just not better than what I've just mentioned lol. I didn't care for the Steakhouse Burger because all thats on it are fried onions and cheddar cheese, although the beef was juicy and tender. I didn't like the Steak and Avocado salad-- the steak wasn't all that. I didn't really like their breakfast pancakes but the Donut Holes were so yummy. As I said before, the Breakfast Sammie was DELICIOUS. Something about eggs, arugala, and avocado that just works. I love going in the summer because it's a great vibe outside. Even inside with the windows open it feels like vacation. They have a lot of different options to choose from. I haven't been disappointed yet.
google avatar

Devin M.

Yelp
Love the brunch! I come here just for the boozy iced coffees but the breakfast Sammie is also the best I've ever had. Incredible outdoor bar and patio. Such a fun spot!
google avatar

Erica G.

Yelp
The winter yurts are such a cute and fun idea for the cold weather! The yurt had a heater and plenty of warm blankets to keep us warm, though we didn't need them because the heat works well. The food is great and we loved the crab Rangoon dip, it's great for sharing! The service is really good and fast considering the distance from the restaurant, but we got our food quickly for such a large party. They also never made us feel rushed because there was not a party reserved right after us, so we got some extra time to hang out in the yurt. The restaurant itself is nice too, with music playing and can get quite loud when there's many people. Nice bar area, though kind of small and can get crowded. Overall great time!
google avatar

Kate S.

Yelp
We had Lydia aka Lyd she was great and very attentive for brunch! Even though we all got salad it was delicious and yummy and the drinks were just as delicious. We normally prefer a booth or sitting at the bar because some of the chairs at the side room feel week and wobbly but they lasted
google avatar

Davetta K.

Yelp
CRAB RAGOOON DIP ME BABYYYYY! all jokes aside the food is really bomb here and the people are wicked nice, the vibes are good too! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND , you won't regret it
google avatar

Antonio S.

Yelp
Chicken is a bit salty but the pasta is great! Service is great as well. Met two regulars here too, they were kind of if'y, not really the right crowd. Not too loud either.

Barb B.

Yelp
Second time here.Came here for a birthday. Ordered drinks and Crab Rangoon and Guacamole apps. Could have used more guacamole and the chips on both could have been fresher, tasted stale. We were barely half way into the apps when our entrees came to the table. They were at best warm with cold fries on the fish and chips and the steak dinner. The food was well seasoned was just hoping for HOT food for the price. Disappointed taking friends for their first time
google avatar

Charmie C.

Yelp
Had a pretty epic Cobb salad here (see pic). It was a full plate that ended up going home. Perfect grilled chicken, loved the bacon crumbles and fresh avocado. Loved that I could swap out the dressing for something else I liked. Pretty fairly priced given the portion size. We were a party of 6 with a very attentive server. Well paced with her offerings, and fulfilling requests in a timely manner. One in our party was a toddler so that piece was critical.

Catherine E.

Yelp
I am constantly finding myself coming back to the Bowery. It is the perfect vibe for a Chill week day outing. Service has always been great. I love exploring the menu here. Recently had the steak with potatoes and asparagus, excellent right away and the next day for leftover lunch!
google avatar

Fatboy S.

Yelp
First time here and had a good experience. Would've gone 4 1/2 stars if available. Food was definitely above average, as well as the service. Got the steak burger and Mediterranean chicken. Good neighborhood spot. Would definitely return if/when in the area.

Jessica L.

Yelp
I love coming here. Everyone is always so friendly and welcoming and it creates such a great vibe. The service, food and drinks (especially the espresso martinis) are always on point. I also like how they change up the menu and promote charity drinks. Bowery Bar does not disappoint.

Michele C.

Yelp
The staff at this place was so welcoming and kind it's an oasis in a wasteland of understaffed and under trained restaurants. We did a birthday celebration in the yurts they have in back which were so cool. I wish I lived closer because we would definitely go here much more often. The food was delicious but the quality of the service really made the experience stand out.
google avatar

Annie L.

Yelp
We decided to check out Bowery Bar for the first time via takeout on a Friday evening. Despite issues with the online takeout platform, I appreciated the staff taking our order on the phone on a busy night. Pick up was without issues and allowed me to get a peak into what seemed like a vibrant, cozy, elevated atmosphere inside. We ordered burgers and sandwiches all around. The Burger Deluxe and Steakhouse Burger got thumbs up. The Hot Bird was found to be overpoweringly spicy, leaving something to be desired. The Healthy Burger (perhaps could do with a more creative name...) was also tasty. The mix of beans, quinoa, farro and sweet potato gave the patty great texture and flavor. The spicy aioli added a richer, creamier element, alongside the avocado, which seemed a bit more like a smattering of guacamole than sliced avocado. Overall, a solid option for vegetarians. The fries...meh, I've had better. Trended a little too far in the frozen food fries direction. Would probably consider trying again in person when the weather warms up!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! How fun this dinner was. Stumbled upon these holiday yurts online and decided to celebrate my birthday in one. You can fit a maximum of 8 people inside one yurt and the yurt is still spacious and comfortable. They have two space heaters inside- one that serves as a light at the top of the yurt and another in the back of the yurt-so it is very warm. If for whatever reason you get cold, they also had blankets/scarves for you to use as well! The yurt is decorated on the inside as well to give a super cute holiday vibe. We paid $200 for the yurt which gets applied to your final bill which was a huge plus. As far as food and drinks goes, everyone LOVED what they got. We ordered several appetizers: Buffalo cauliflower, spinach dip, and nachos. All were super tasty, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Buffalo cauliflower. I really wanted to try their crap Rangoon dip, so that will have to be a next time thing. For drinks the two big hits were the dazed & infused as well as the butter me up old fashioned. I though the dazed & infused was exceptional. I was between that and I believe the two for flinching and our waitress highly recommending the dazed & infused. Very good. Very tasty. Highly recommend. For dinner, I ordered the steakhouse burger. It was huge! It was ok, but still tasty. Definitely a lot of food! Many others ordered the steakhouse burger as well. Lastly, our waitress was great. Very nice, super kind, and attentive. Would definitely come back!

Kervin L.

Yelp
Great variety of bar food and consistently amazing! I love the loaded nachos burgers and pot pie! The fish & chips isn't bad either!

Delisha P.

Yelp
Very nice place. Service was great. All the food was great. We had the buffalo chicken nachos. I highly recommend them. Also had the fish tacos and the fish special. Everything was tasty.

Yelp
Really delicious brunch, fast service, and cozy/rustic atmosphere. Tried the Reese's Pieces iced coffee (includes peanut butter whiskey) & the Lobster Benny (did not disappoint). Would definitely recommend visiting with friends.

Yelp
Wifey has wanted to try this place for some time for date night so we finally did it! We are going to have to come here again, it was great! From the outside it looks like your standard restauratant/bar but they have a quaint back patio area with a bar and string lights. The patio area is very well kept and well spaced out. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They were apologetic when they told me they ran out of cherries for my old fashion. Their fries were tasty! once you start you, can't stop. Wifey got a burger and i snuck some fries and i regretted not getting something with a fries. I got the lobster mac and cheese and it was very good, one of the better ones I've had in a long time. It had an ample amount of knuckle and claw lobster meat so you get your moneys worth. The bar for an excellent lobster mac and cheese is the old Max and Dylan's in downtown (sadly gone), by far the best lobster mac and cheese i have ever had. It just missed the velvety texture, otherwise it would've replaced Max and Dylan's place in my heart, or stomach. You know what I mean! The beer selection isn't huge but there is enough variety and they have a lot of whiskey options, not high end but solid familiar choices. I will be sure to update you when we go again!

Yelp
Just tried to eat and drink here and was immediately seated. Saw a few people at the bar with two bartenders and two bartenders outside with 3 tables seated. We were brought water and we immediately ordered our drinks. We inquired on the tequila available and she did not but informed me all the "major ones" So we ordered two drinks and 20 minutes later no drinks, as we are walking out we see our drinks made & the waitress conversing over our drinks with the bartender. No thanks, definitely not what I was expecting. However the outside seating was beautiful, disappointed to say the least.

Yolanda R.

Yelp
Food was amazing , service was awesome will definitely return for the dinner menu .The atmosphere inside or outside is just what's needed
google avatar

Stephanie M.

Yelp
The food is pretty decent. I wish the menu had more of a variety. I haven't had any issues with the service. I sat a the bar one time and the bartender was super nice. There is a kind of rustic feel in the space could use a bit more lighting to accommodate the dark interior. Overall I've had good experiences here. I have to go back soon.

Paul H.

Yelp
We ate in one of the yurts. It was cozy and warm even though it was cold outside. Service was excellent! As far as the food it was delicious and made the way we wanted.
google avatar

Julie G.

Yelp
Ryan was the best server I've ever had. She was so sweet and was so helpful with food/drink suggestions. Made this the best experience ever. I suggest sitting outside and getting the crab Rangoon dip!!!!!
google avatar

Barbara K.

Yelp
We love the patio here! The ambiance is nice and service is on point. Good menu and also good drinks. The atmosphere is young and hip. The only thing bad thing I can say about this place is parking. It's hard to find parking that's about it

Jerome B.

Yelp
Awesome menu! Loved the fish tacos and the kale Brussels salad! The drinks were good and service was awesome! Loved the patio area and a great little vibe. Will be back! My fiancé got the Shepard's pie and the onion soup and loved both!
