Brazen Fox is one of the staple bars/restaurants on the Mamaroneck Ave strip in downtown White Plains. While there was nothing that particularly caught my eye about it, I always wanted to see what it was all about since it has such a grand presence and always looked packed. The other day I made plans to catch up with one of my friends so we decided to try Brazen out for brunch.
Being a go-to in White Plains, you can imagine Brazen is large. It has large open windows looking onto Mamaroneck Ave with a large bar that sits center. Tables and booths line the perimeter, and there's additional space outside for when the weather is nice. The aesthetics are very bar like - woods, dark reds, low-ish lighting, etc. There was a football game going on while we were there, so you can imagine it was quite loud - that's okay though because it comes with the territory.
The brunch menu actually had more than I expected - lunch mains, breakfasts, omelette options, and brunchy entrees that one would expect to find. What stood out to me was the chipotle sweet potato hash - this was poached eggs, peppers, onions, sweet potatoes, pico de gallo, and avocado topped with some sour cream. The dish was pretty good - it had a lot of components but the flavors and textures worked well together.
For a loud, crowded restaurant with a football game going on, service was surprisingly on point and food came out at the right pace. Overall, I was impressed by brunch service. I wouldn't say that Brazen Fox totally fits my vibe or aesthetic, but I need to give credit where it's due. I would be open to returning for dinner or drinks if given the opportunity.
