"This old-school cafe at the north end of Ashland is open for breakfast and lunch only. While it can be a little daunting to pull up on a weekend morning and see dozens of people already waiting for tables, don’t fret — the wait is usually less than 15 minutes, and once you’re seated the rest happens fairly quickly. The specials board out front may win you over before you’re ever seated, but know that the popular Benedicts are a sure bet, as are the cafe’s house-baked scones and muffins. Sit out on the patio in good weather if you can." - Susanne Robertson, Eater Staff

The Breadboard is a great place to grab breakfast or brunch! They have delicious food (must try the pancakes) and a very friendly staff who are happy to give recommendations. The Breadboard gets pretty packed in the mornings, especially on the weekends, but they are well worth the wait! They are located a short drive from downtown Ashland and many of the hotels in town!

Google
This restaurant was highly recommended and it was the worst dining experience in our visit to Ashland thus far. We were ahead of three people and they seated them and got them their food first. We were almost ignored until one of the customers after us had told the waitress we were there first. Others got their food who came in after us before we even ordered.

The Breadboard is a place I went regularly twenty years ago for some of my first breakfast-out experiences. I was afraid the memory wouldn’t hold up, but pulling in early with a family of four, we were greeted by friendly staff, a cozy, eclectic interior, and a mix of classic greats and excellent daily specials. I got the Mountain Man combination of biscuits, sausage and gravy with fried potatoes that I’ve craved, while my wife had a sweet potato fruit pancake that was perfect. The kids almost finished their massive platters and hot chocolates, and everyone left happy and full. Glad to see they’re still doing everything well.

Google
So glad we stopped, amazing breakfast and the service was top notch. Wish we had room to try the scones.

Google
I brought my wife here on mother's day. She had the baguette french toast and I had the ham and eggs breakfast. It was very good! It was busy and it took awhile to get our food. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We were outside on the deck. It has a nice view down into the valley. I forgot to take pictures.

Google
It was our first visit, and the food we were served was appealing and delicious. My Belgian waffle was actually fabulous, crispy underneath the covering of fresh sliced strawberries and whipped cream. My Sweetie had the biscuits & gravy (with bacon and sausage crumbles) which disappeared amidst sighs of contentment. Great place, wonderful service with a smile.

Google
This place was what I wish for every brunch experience to be. SO delicious, delightful environment, great service. Also loved the stained glass we sat by in the sunny solar addition space. Menu items our group loved: California omelette, home fries, marionberry scones, sourdough toast, and truly everything we tried.

Google
Great hole in the wall, breakfast spot with awesome outside deck with a great view. Dog friendly, everybody is happy to be here and big smiles all around. Don’t get me started about the home made jam Oh My Goodness it is out of this world!!!

Yelp
I have been eating at The Breadboard for 10 years or so. We moved to Medford from Sactown. This was one of the first breakfast places we ate and it is very very good. The Food is great! Excellent gravy! The service is good. We'll always go back to The Breadboard.

Paul P.

Yelp
Food was scrumptious. The service was awesome! Leelou our server nailed it. We will return when back in the Ashland area

Robert W.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast on the way home. Ordered the biscuits and gravy, really good. The staff were very nice and welcoming. Sat outside on the deck. Highly recommend. Overall good food and service.

Yelp
Great Breakfast experience @ The Breadboard in Ashland, OR.! We haven't been here in years and we were happy to check it out again! We had friendly, kind, and attentive service. The cozy space was right off of the main drive and easy to locate and park. Their decor was whimsical as well. Our meals came out quicker than expected and were delicious. My Ashland scramble was savory with plenty of veggies. I would have liked the jam to be seedless, but the sourdough bread was great with just butter. Latte was enjoyable as well and I was happy to take the rest of it in a recyclable cup to go! Definitely a great breakfast option if you're in the area!

Erica H.

Yelp
My favorite spot on our trip up north! There food is amazingly delicious! Everything was fresh and you could tell right away! Their Marion berry jam is so so good!!

Annie G.

Yelp
Service was very good, the food... not so much. Poor side-of-the-road diner grub. Old old decor. Pancakes were like eating sponges.

Dave M.

Yelp
Great breakfast, eggs Benedict, the potatoes were perfectly done and wonderfully seasoned. The hollandaise sauce was delightful. Coffee was perfect. Place was full, but service was attentive. I'll be coming back for sure.

Leelee M.

Yelp
Always wonderful food, yummy baked goods. Friendly staff and quick service . Nice outdoor patio that allows your doggie friend to come along.

Camelia N.

Yelp
As soon as you walk in you're welcomed with warmth. The deck views are amazing (weather was perfect for it). Food was made to perfection with a touch of home.

Sarah C.

Yelp
Solid Breakfast. My mountain man Jr. hit the spot perfectly. Love that gravy. And the Jr. is the perfect size for me - I'm not a big breakfast eater and I'm actually able to finish it (and am full!). My mom swears by the Eggs Benedict as really the only good Benedict in town. Acceptable kids menu. The have a quite nice outdoor patio with umbrellas.

Laurie ..

Yelp
Super slow service. I got here at 10 am and was seated right away. It is now 11 am, and no food has appeared yet. Getting ready to pack it in. If you don't have all day, go elsewhere.

Suzanne Z.

Yelp
I had a great California omelette in late November 2024 and a disappointing Breadboard omelette in mid December 2024. Was the chef different? On the positive side, the service was great. Host amazing. And the muffins INCREDIBLE. Worth the extra $2.50(?) for a muffin/scone instead of toast. Not sure I will rush back. But I would purchase the bran marionberry muffin a la cart for take-home!

Michelle N.

Yelp
Being gluten free it can be hard to find a restaurant with options that don't leave me with a complete case of fomo looking at my friends plates. I can't tell you how excited I was to be able to order French toast that with real maple syrup!! I was tempted to order the pancakes too based on principle. Perfect portions, great service & easy on the wallet. Great place to get together with friends to catch up.

Yelp
Stopped into The Breadboard today for breakfast for the five of us visiting Ashland. We often go out for breakfast rather than dinner these days and we travel quite a bit so we have been to a LOT of breakfast joints. Hands down this was in the top 99% of breakfast places. Every single thing was fresh, homemade and absolutely delicious. We had eggs Benedict, California omelette, biscuits and gravy, berry crepes, berry turnovers. Everything was outstanding! So good we vowed to return before the end of our trip. The service was amazing too. Highly recommended!

Jonah S.

Yelp
This is the best food I've ever had in my life, no exaggeration. I always order the biscuits and gravy and coffee and it's so damn good. The service is lightning quick when it isn't busy and when it is busy it's still very fast. Booths are very comfortable and employees are friendly. Overall 10/10 experience.

Lorita C.

Yelp
The breakfast just tastes good and not greasy at all. the potato fries are golden brown. I usually don't order fried food just trying to be healthy. But the fries are delicious and ate more than I usually do :) Ashland is a small town. This eatery is outside the downtown area with a cozy decor. Wait staff are friendly. Will definitely come back when next time in Ashland.

Thomas P.

Yelp
Elevated diner food. Reasonable prices and the food was solidly enjoyable. Nothing too fancy like lemon zest infused butter (sadly), but some delicious treats nonetheless like berry scones. With so many good breakfast and brunch options in Ashland, this place must be doing something right given that it has been an institution for well over the past decade. One can find "refined or fancy" breakfast options locally, as well as more diner food-like options as well. So this one appears to be a nice midway point between the two.

Sophia T.

Yelp
Classic, good, home-cooked breakfast spot with beautiful views of Ashland hills from the patio. Staff was a smidge on the snooty side, but service was pretty quick and food was good! The star of the show were the Marionberry scones - I would eat one every day if I could!

Chris S.

Yelp
Great breakfast food. Service was friendly and attentive. The calico rancheros was delicious. I have no idea what the reviewer who went on about plant based diets was thinking. There are good vegetarian and even a few vegan options.

David B.

Yelp
This small place out on the north side of Ashland turned out to be a worthwhile addition to our breakfast rounds. Well-cooked and tasty food. Hearty pancakes and creative omelets: I had an Italian omelet which had sausage and, of all things, green onion cooked into the eggs and not folded in, which is how I like it. Only problem (for me) is that everything comes with a huge pile of these chunks of potato, which is kind of useless if you don't eat potato; I'd prefer a choice. Still, the food was good and this is definitely worth coming to again.

Yelp
Oh Breadboard it's been too long. After moving away from Ashland I've yet to find a breakfast place so cheerful, consistent, relaxed and tasty. The mountain man and mountain man junior are the yardstick by which I measure all other breakfast places.

Rosalie C.

Yelp
Driving by and made a pit stop from Cali. Yummy breakfast with good portions size. Definitely would gif back.

K P.

Yelp
Great for brunch. Outside patio. Right off the 99. Cute place nice service. Will be back. I love bread

Traz D.

Yelp
The staff was great. The place so so and the food was so so. My 6yr old did love his waffles with Strawberries. I ordered the Greek Omelette. It was good but could be better. With that said the omelette was flat and not very tasty. Just a lack of flavor and fluff. It was a limp omelette. The staff was great though and didn't take long to get the food. No child menu but that was ok because my son eats like an adult man. My only advice would be to whisk the eggs to make the omelette fluffy and overall yummy, also maybe add a little seasoning to the spinach.

LeRoy T.

Yelp
For the BEST Sourdough pancakes you need to go to The Breadboard restaurant. They even have homemade jam. They make all their food from scratch. I had the FULL HOUSE which included Short stacks with two eggs, bacon, and link sausage.

Madie R.

Yelp
Good classic breakfast! Super nice and welcoming staff. Fast service too! Get the pumpkin pancakes YUM

Dennis D.

Yelp
Since I don't cook pancakes, I come here occasionally for a good breakfast. Today on Sunday after church I decided that it was worth coming

Rupa S.

Yelp
Waking up on a fine morning with a beautiful view of Mount Shasta. Hungry we were and ended up driving north into the Oregon border and got ourselves a breakfast at a local spot. Immediately seated upon arrival in a booth we then looked over the menu and ordered the breakfast burrito with black beans along with a side of red and green salsa. It was delicious. Loved the breakfast. Everything was well balanced in the burrito and to top it off the red salsa was simply amazing. This was our backup plan in case the restaurant my friend and I originally went to was packed a few miles down from The Breadboard as we were short on time. I am glad my first dining experience in Oregon was super good. I will definitely be back especially, for the homemade salsa.

Yelp
Please go visit , we just moved here , the staff are excellent as is the food and prices , great location with views too . We will be back THANK YOU !!!

Tracy R.

Yelp
Delicious, great view from Patio, country fried steak, peach compote French toast. So good!

Peter F.

Yelp
Perfect fall day. Beautiful experience on the deck. The food was so good. Everything about this place is wonderful!

Morgan K.

Yelp
Such a cute spot, we are locals but somehow haven't been here before. The decor is cute and the place looks clean. Our server was polite enough and did come back to check to see if we needed our waters filled. The food was absolutely delicious. I got the Portobello garden burger with home fries instead of chips. The burger was amazing and the home fries tasted great, but they were cold on arrival which was a big disappointment. Missing 5 stars because of the cold food, but I'm sure we will come back!

Timothy A.

Yelp
Pleasant atmosphere and classically good breakfast food. Reasonably priced (relatively speaking). Friendly service. I'd go back. Not pictured: the delightfully delicious marionberry jam.

Ann F.

Yelp
Fortunately got here early on Mother's Day morning and were able to sit on their beautiful patio with our pup. The views of the green hills were spectacular. We loved our two waitresses- very friendly and great sense of humor. All 4 of us enjoyed our dishes. Highly recommend!

Nancy A.

Yelp
Great food. Very friendly kind staff; delicious food as well. I'll be definitely going back again! Love their French toast marioberry jam on top...

Chris B.

Yelp
This unpretentious restaurant serves excellent food with generous portions. My favorite thing about it is the emphasis on fresh and local foods. Today they were serving chopped local peaches as a side dish - so yummy! Go early

Frank M.

Yelp
Food is traditional breakfast fare and very tasty. I had the full house, and the pancakes were perfect consistency and scrambled eggs were good. I prefer my bacon crispy, but that's on me for not saying anything. Wait staff are friendly and attentive without being overbearing.

Bryce L.

Yelp
Mom got the Marionberry muffin, I had the biscuits and gravy. Place was really clean, staff were exceedingly friendly. Very quick service, excellent food. The place is a bit small, but plenty of room for folks to sit down. Muffin was a lot larger than what you get at Costco or other stores like it, definitely worth the stop.

Mandy L.

Yelp
This is a place that shows you don't need to be hipster to be good (Portland restaurants, I'm talking to you) And yes, while I do admittedly enjoy a hipster restaurant from time to time, the downside is that they also come with a higher price tag, which this place does not: the prices are pretty reasonable. With its large menu with classic breakfast items (pancakes, omelets, biscuits and gravy... nothing overly fancy) and simple deck, you would think this is a regular breakfast joint, but it is far from it. Firstly though, the food is great, can't go wrong with a classic breakfast, but I want to give this place five star just for the jam. Is that fair? You'll have to just come and decide for yourself. The menu selection is fairly large, so I have confidence you will find something you will like from it, but whatever you get, you have to try to Marionberry muffin and the marionberry jam, which is out-of-this-world delicious. I had to buy a jar to bring home with me! I am not sure when I will come visit Southern Oregon again, but if I do, I will need to make a visit here again!

Jacqueline F.

Yelp
We visited this spot twice. Once because we wanted to and the second time because the place we wanted to go to was closed. The first review, is the five star one. The second is a 1.5 star review (I'll explain the .5). We went in, had a 1/2 hour wait, and sat down. They have a gluten free waffle, which is good. I wish it was available in more than one flavor. Also, I had to pay an extra $3.15 for the privilege, I ordered a full stack, with real maple syrup, one sausage patty, and potatoes. I also got a mocha. I loved it! I didn't eat the potatoes or the sausage, but after the first 2.5 pancakes, I was really full. The mocha was a double shot, it was good, but not very chocolaty. It had a nice head of whipped cream on it. My sister saw an omelet and asked if she could get a scramble with the same ingredients. She got it, easily! The second time we went, we had a shorter wait and a waitress who was filling in for a friend, had just started working 20 minutes before our arrival, or something. Ordering from her was a nightmare! My sister wanted the gluten free pancakes and got into an argument with the waitress who declared there were no gluten free pancakes on the menu. My sister had a hard time ordering her scramble, and to make things easy, I ordered a side of Gluten free toast and two sausage patties because I felt like she couldn't mess that up. And she didn't. Also, I lost my smart watch and another waitress moved the booth so that we could look behind it. Thank you! This is the .5 added to the 1 star review for this visit. So, bottom line? I'd come again. I know what to order and will have a good breakfast. I wish they would have had a bit more variety with the GF stuff, but the pancakes were very good! So, yeah, I'd return.

Yelp
Our New Favorite Breakfast Restaurant when traveling through Ashland. Thanks for great service and great food choices.

Lei F.

Yelp
Customer service was excellent! The food was okay, nothing fancy or special. We stopped over on our way back down to CA and were happy to try this spot from reading other yelpers reviews. Even though we came in 20 minutes before they closed (we didn't know), they were kind to provide service happily. NO fuss, no faces, and no uncomfortable vibes. Alot of places in CA DO NOT like it when people come in 30 minutes to closing. And they let you know, which is awkward sometimes. So thanks for being awesome!

Majid S.

Yelp
First off I must say that this may be a good place to eat for some. Although it wasn't to my liking. Actually first off I must say that the staff is pretty amazing. Very friendly, accommodating, and keep things moving. Personally for myself I found my Reuben to be two sloppy. I generally like my sandwiches clean and don't want to use a fork and a knife. My wife's huevos rancheros added an element that she didn't care for. I forgot what that was. The Marion Berry scones I had to go and ate the next day I felt lacked flavor. But the nice touch was the side of jam they gave us to put on the scones. If I was to rate this restaurant just for myself, I would give it three stars. Although I must say I've only visited here one time so I can't make full judgment call. Except I found the scones underwhelming. The Reuben if it had less sauerkraut I think would have been better. The roomman actually had pretty good flavor it was just too messy of a sandwich for me. Now. Some people like that. And some people like the type of restaurant that this restaurant is. But it wasn't my cup of tea. So that's why I'm giving it more stars. Because others there seem to enjoy it more than I did. But I think the scones need work. Also the name of the restaurant is deceiving. I asked the waitress why they called it the breadboard and she gave me the history of the restaurant stating that back in the day they want to serve their food on bread. And that something about the city didn't let them do that. But they don't really make bread there. Except for one of the breads I think it was the multigrain. I love bread. So I I had hoped it was more of a bakery, Even though nowhere on the website or menu stated that they made bread, which I read. In closing. Before you go look at the photos and the menu and see if this place appeals to you. I certainly does appeal to some.

Yelp
I spent two mornings in Ashland and ate breakfast here both of them. Delicious, fresh, homey food and lovely service. The view out the window knocked my socks off.

Freddy M.

Yelp
Story time: The sun was making its appearance well into the morning and my compatriots and I were all done with our respite meal in a little nook in the corner. I was finishing prepping my to-go coffee cup and knew we would be in the car for more hours still, so I took a look around and decided it was safe to evacuate just a little bit of the sour air building deep in my soul. Based on my gut feeling, it would be just a quiet way to reduce the pressure and alleviate my fellow travelers from enduring any torture while in close proximity making our arduous journey north. Just as I began my soulful soliloquy, it started to take on its own form and change from a quiet escape to a thunderous exclamation of the power within, as if to prove it could not be tamed by any mere mortal. At that same moment, a young college student named Iris who innocently made her way to the outside tables to serve her patrons was rounding the corner and couldn't help but be in the presence of the entire duration of my performance. Being a professional, she attempted to keep herself composed and yet she could not prevent the huge grin from sticking to her face as I awkwardly tried to find a way to remove myself from this moment. Due to the small enclosed space, I was out of options to blame the distinctly recognizable sound on a chair or dismiss it outright as the enclave acted as a speaker amplifying my call to action. She gave no verbal acknowledgment as to what had transpired in her presence perhaps not wanting to call attention to my erroneous judgment despite my feeble attempt at an apology uttered more to myself than her. I left hastily with red cheeks and quick steps in the opposite direction hoping no one else had heard my monstrous explosion of sound. So long Iris from The Breadboard, shall our paths ne'er meet again! Food was incredible, service was friendly and very prompt. Would love to eat there again but maybe in a few years to avoid any red-faced interactions. Ambience was only enhanced by my contribution but overall very good despite my efforts to change the atmosphere.

Michael L.

Yelp
Bad customer service. Ordered a to go food restaurant was empty and they wouldn't let me eat my food there with my son.

Michelle R.

Yelp
I love chicken fried steak and love trying it at new restaurants. This was the worst chicken fried steak you will ever have. Very tofu like consistency. And I asked for crispy potatoes, they were barely cooked, they didn't even try to brown them up a little bit. A little effort would have been appreciated. Food comes out fast though, I guess it's can be quick when you barely cook stuff. Even the toast and English muffin was barely toasted, not even a browning of the surface.

Marisa E.

Yelp
Next time you are in Ashland around breakfast time, grab a meal at the Breadboard Restaurant. Staff is friendly. They definitely enjoy their job and working with each other. Food was delicious. The homemade marionberry jam was a perfect addition to sourdough toast.

Amber N.

Yelp
First off.. I want to start with the staff.. they are AMAZING!! Gar C was our waiter this morning.. I wish I could bottle his enthusiasm!! That being said, everyone is so nice here and I love how they work as a team! We stayed in Ashland for 2 nights, and both mornings we had breakfast at The Breadboard. The first morning was I had the basic eggs, bacon and homers with a biscuit on the side.. so delicious.. my eggs were cooked perfectly and the bacon melted in my mouth! Today I had the special. Pumpkin pancakes.. they were fluffy, moist and delicious! I didn't even need syrup because they were so flavorful! I highly recommend taking home a muffin..

Madison M.

Yelp
Cool local spot with a view. Came here on a Sunday at 12noon. They serve breakfast all day and start the lunch menu at 11am. We were greeted warmly and put on a waitlisy. We were told 10min, but we had just enough time to scan the menu and they called our name *thumbs up* Food was served in less than 20 minutes and everything was prepared as ordered and at the appropriate temperatures. We were pleased with the portions and the food tasted fresh. I would come here again for breakfast or lunch with friends.
