Early in the evening it's good. Fun friendly great atmosphere. If you're only there for drinks and food, you will have a great time at the bar and on the arcade games. If you get there early pool is fun, but later in the night it gets very aggressive and people tend to not be friendly or courteous or even follow "rules". Just be cautious if you are just trying to have fun.

Pinball, Air Hockey, Skeeball, Hoops, Darts, Pool, and dozens of TVs. This place has it all! The atmosphere was the best bar we have been to in a long time, everybody was very polite and minded themselves. Food and drinks were all great, and the bartenders were very nice and quick!

If your vibe is a dive bar, you’ve reached the pinnacle. Whether you’re a local, or a tourist visiting folly- this is the perfect place to hang with a group of friends. The bar is balanced perfectly with excellent service from bartenders, and appropriately seasoned & priced bar bites. Accompanied by pool tables, air hockey, pinball machines, classic Pac-Man, you name it. It’s grungy, divey, and a great spot to get your booze on. Love to Wilson behind the bar, he’s such a cool cat! P.S. the chicken wings are bussin’

Very fun place to play pool. Met lots of cool people on my first time being there.

Lots of pinball options here and they are well taken care of. Very cool collection of games. We visited on a Sunday night so the atmosphere was more laid back. The pinball machines are $1 per game for 3 balls.

Well Alley or Kelley not sure was the bar tender horrible customer service I have never experienced anything like this in my life. When does a bartender pour chaser(red Bull) and liquor at the same time and get mad when I simply said it’s to much Red Bull. I asked for her manger Kayla (the one in the black shirt) Alley then says to her I hate those people. Her manager laughed and she said oh she wants you. She finally came her excuse was we are about to close and we hate all customers at that time and walks off. Meanwhile I have horrible drinks and horrible customer service on my very first experience at this bar never again and I will post on all platforms. Update she then comes back to tell me you need to leave your being rude I asked how she said it’s the end of the night and your complaining about our service. So I guess because they had a long night it justifies the rudeness very unacceptable. I am not done with them. If I am at work no matter how tired I am it does not give me the ok to be rude to customers especially when you know your wrong chaser and liquor does not get poured at the same time.

I will start by saying that this is not my normal digs. Bartender busy but very attentive and pleasant. Standard sports bar atmosphere but good layout. Big bar. The wings were okay, a little dry. Good large basket of fries.

Google
This place was amazing and the food is out of this world! If you love pinball, well don't look any further, they have many to choose from and multiple pool tables too! This picture of beer I shared on my review is the beer that was offered to me by 1 of their bartenders there! He knew I had a long drive ahead and I didn't want to have any alcohol in my system to stay safe going home......this guy went out of his way to suggest a good non alcoholic beer and had to look top to bottom before he found it, but way worth the wait for his kind gesture! Please make sure to stop by this bar before or after a nice day at the beach

Yelp
We stopped in to the break during vacation. We didn't feel like traveling to Charleston for a night out but still wanted to have some drinks. The Break was a great find, we had fun playing arcade games and pool. The crowd was all very friendly including the bartenders. Definitely a low key place to unwind!

Yelp
Went to the "break" with my buddy, but first we had an adventure. There is this really big yellow truck that we see a lot and it is so big and it is HUGE so we were like let's do it and we raced around and watched this big yellow truck do its thing and we were hoping it was going to the brake too but it never braked and just keeps accelerating and going really fast but I am fast too. I am extremely fast. On foot and on non foot. I got the wings here and I was pretty down with them they were for sure filling especially tasted good after two pernicious on draft with my buddy and then next thing you know buddy 2 shows up.

Yelp
Great beer (they have light beer!! Woohoo) and TVs. Seem to have different bartenders every time I go but they are always solid. Perfect place to watch the game or a fight. Packers lost to the Niners ... again.

Yelp
Colleen has consistently made my experience horrible here. She's very particular with who she likes. I love everyone else at the break but she has treated me and my friends so bad that we consider never coming back. It sucks bc we really love this place :(

Yelp
Classic sports bar. Lots of activities so you don't get bored. It would surprise you how big it is inside

Yelp
Been to the break a few times. I was honestly starting to frequent the establishment, but that ended a while back. It was my day off, so I brought a girl with me to have some drinks & watch the World Series. We even ended up joining a pinball tournament, and all was well until the owner of the pinball machines started getting uptight about me standing near his machine while he played. I put this to the side, as it was childish to make a big deal of it. Moments later, the World Series kicked off, and i found myself at the bar, rooting for the opposing team (as i am from that city, Houston). It turns out the pinball guy was behind the bar, and didn't appreciate me cheering against his beloved Braves. He called me "negative", closed out my tab, and told me to leave. His piss poor attitude really shined bright last night. As much as I wanted to be an a**hole, i refused to stoop down to his level. I gave them another chance a few weeks later, and some white knight customer ran up to the owner and asked if I was still allowed there, and they made me leave again. This place is a joke, the owner is a loser, and I hope he realizes how his actions affect his business. I have prevented quite a few of my friends from going here and now recommend Garage 75 down the road. Please save yourself the time and find another bar.

Yelp
If you want to watch football, this is THE place!! Lots of tvs! The bartenders are some of the best in Charleston! We went today to watch the Packers and they filled up fast. Only two bartenders but you wouldn't know it because they crushed it!!! They kept their cool, handled each guest with great service. I didn't get their names but they rock!!! We had a great time, great service and great bar menu!

Yelp
Horrible service. Sat down for 15 min and not a single server or bartender greeted us. We tried to flag a bartender (at the bar) and he just ignored us. The place had less than 20 people in it and there were three bartenders and another 2 servers. All the staff were doing we're watching football and gossiping about their weekend.

Yelp
The Break offers a unique bar experience. With pool tables, video games, pinball, weekly live trivia, 3/4 bar surround television sets, outdoor smoking and drinking area and plenty of parking, this is a gem for the James Island community. The break is it's own mini Dave & Busters. In fact, in the men's room, above the urinal is another interactive video game. That is all I am going to say. The bar staff is very friendly and warm and the tater tot nachos are really good comfort food. Overall, a fun and interactive bar experience.

Yelp
I went there for the arcade games and really enjoyed myself. There was a good selection of games. The bartender was very friendly. I will definitely go back the next time I visit.

Yelp
It's a good place to play pool and they have a full bar. If you like pinball they also have lots of machines, dart boards and an ATM

Yelp
Wilson is awesome. Really enjoyed my time, and Wilson was a big reason for it. Amazing wings.

Yelp
It's really hard to give this place a low rating because it's so much fun, between the pinball machines, pool tables, and all of the televisions, it's can definitely be called a sports bar. The worse thing about this place was the staff on the night shift. Me and my buddies walked in and we said hello and the girl tending the bar walked past us and didn't even acknowledge us. Not like the bar was full, there may have been 8 people at the bar and they all seemed to be drinking. When she finally got to us it was more of a "what do you want" kind of attitude and when we asked if there was any beer specials there response was short "we don't have any". After watching her for a while we noticed that she was a very rude bar tender, if you are not a regular. She would walk past people that just walked in the door and sat at the bar. Trying to get another beer was at least a 5 minute wait and when she got to you it was like you was keeping her from getting to bed. It was 2 of my friends and myself drink and after 3 hours of being there our bill was only $29 and it was not because we didn't want to drink, it was just hard to get served by this girl. And when they was closing the bar down her male coworker walked over to us and told us we had to settle our tab now and leave because they are closing. The only reason we even left a $2 tip was because we felt bad as customers but we truly received very shitty service and attitude from these workers.

Yelp
The Break is the best place for a game of pool on James Island (Cha Cha's used to be my favorite, but sadly it closed). They have 4 pool tables, plus video games, hoops, skeeball, and air hockey. There is plenty of seating at the bar as well as at tables and booths. They have a number of large TVs if there is a big game to watch. Outside there is a patio with seating as well. Nothing fancy, but everything you need for a chill night. The bartenders and staff are all very friendly here. I typically only drink and play pool here (a very bad game of pool, but I play!) so I'm not sure how all of the food is. The only food I have ordered is chicken fingers and they were decent. Nothing to write home about, but not bad at all. Overall, one of my favorite bars on James Island!

Yelp
Came here last night for the first time and it was super fun! They have pool tables, tons of arcade games, tvs literally everywhere, and skee ball!! Prices and service were great.

Yelp
Cool spot. Beer was cold. Tons of games to play. Plenty of TVs to watch the game. Haven't tried the food

Yelp
Don't let the outside of this place fool you. This is a great hidden sports bar. I met a group of friends here to watch a football game and as soon as I pulled in I questioned what type of place we were going. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I entered. There are more TV's than I can count. It is a smoke free environment, and out waitress was extremely tentative. The food is typical bar food, but the drink specials are very good! I will definitely be returning in the near future!

Yelp
Nice sports pub. Tons of TV's and big screens. Great seating and layout. Sports-pub-ish decor but cleaner. Very friendly, smiling and welcoming staff. Totally a plus and gives that 'we wanna come back here' vibe. My husband and I popped in for a Sunday afternoon snack and to watch football. The place was empty when we first got there, but filled up quickly just before the game started. The staff were cool about putting the TV in front of us at the bar, to the game we wanted. The bench seats/booths all have their own TV's. (I forgot to ask if they get NHL games...) Lots of pool tables on the left as soon as you walk in, great variety of seating from tall tables, to lower ones, benches and bar seating. Table hockey, driving, basketball and pin ball games make it a really fun place for groups. They even have Ms. Packman stand up video game! The beer was cold, there is a good variety of spirits to choose from. The menu was average as far as choices/variety. Your typical (and well-loved) choices of burgers, sandwiches, finger-foods and basic salads. My husband had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich with fries, and I had the Roasted Red Pepper Hummus (with cuke slices and celery sticks). My husband was satisfied with his burger/sandwich but said it could've been a big more generous with the fries. My hummus was good, nothing special (from a container maybe?). I would have liked it to have more bite/flavour and maybe offer a more colorful choice of veg. As far as vegan eats, only the garden salad (omit cheese etc) or the hummus fit the bill.) I have to say that the veggies were VERY fresh in both meals and fun presentation. :) You can look at their menu on their website. Good dollar value for the food. Parking was okay. As I said, we got there and there were not many people. The lot is shared with other businesses so it could get busy. There is an outdoor area for smokers, but it seems smokers also congregate in front of the main doors. Bathrooms were totally in need of a good cleaning, specially the walls/doors, inside the stalls. The rest of the bar (our spot at the bar, the floors, the lights and main entrance) were nice and clean. In order for me to give this place more stars: More variety of food choices....maybe deserts and a "The Break Signature Item"? Also, cleaner bathrooms for sure, and maybe a live performer?

Yelp
The folks that work here are the best! They're especially attentive, cool and it's a great place to park your butt and have some beverages for a needed day break. The pool tables, pinball machines and foosball hockey are always fun as well. Great management and bartenders... a personal fave close ish to Folly Beach.

Yelp
A clean, sports bar offering decent wine, yummy food, skee ball, air hockey, electronic darts and pool... Yeah, I'm shocked it could come together so well. This space has been overhauled and cleaned up. The lights are up, revealing how clean the floors, bar and bathroom are. The menu has about 10 wines, red and white , stored, priced and poured properly. The food was great. I tasted a quesadilla and put down some chicken nachos. A little heavy on the salt (I usually don't complain about this) but overall delicious. This will be my go to spot come NFL season...

Yelp
One of my favorite sports bars in town, and definitely the best on James Island. I guess I COULD critique the food and relative lack of vegan options, but c'mon, it's a sports bar! The Tachos (tater tot nachos) were f-ing amazing. We went for one of the recent big MMA fights. We had a seat kind of in the middle, near the bar, and even though we were all facing different directions, seeing the fight was no problem at all. There are TVs everywhere. It was packed that night, but getting drinks was still not a problem. The bartenders there know how to deal with volume, which is refreshing. All in all, a super fun time.

Yelp
Nice happy hour spot. Cheap drinks, hot tots, and good service. I wish they had pay by the hour pool tables instead of the coin operated ones.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is seriously awesome. Do not let the fact it is in a shopping center deter you from coming here. Great vibes all around- from the spacious bar, to the throwback 70s jams bumping throughout the surround sound speakers, to the large TVs, to the arcade games (skee-ball and car racing- need I say more?!), to the all around cleanliness.... What are you waiting for??? Get out of downtown and come take a BREAK!
google avatar

Natalie T.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, staff, and food! And the bar/beer selection is perfect for a casual drink after the beach or to meet up with friends for a game. Plus, if the game isn't interesting there are plenty of fun arcade games for everyone to enjoy! We have always had a blast here! Plus park is super easy with the big lot. A must go!

Yelp
Slow service. Bad menu (all fried) . Empty bottles all over the bar. Had to ask for another beer every time. Had to ask for my tab multiple times. The kid at the door was nice.

Justin N.

Yelp
If you are looking to watch hockey at a sports bar, don't bother coming here as they don't carry the Carolina Hurricanes games or NHL Center Ice. Decent beer selection, but they don't do pitchers. They have a few pool tables and arcade games/pinball. Overall pretty disappointed from a proclaimed "sports bar".
