The Brick Hotel (San Diego / La Jolla Area, California) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Brick is a relatively uncommon building material in California, but this (amply reinforced) 1888-vintage brick building, once Oceanside’s first hardware store, is an eye-catching exception. The Brick Hotel isn’t large — just ten rooms — but for boutique-hotel fans it plays an outsized role in a hospitality scene that’s in the middle of something of a renaissance." - Tablet Hotels

We did a room block for our wedding party at the Brick Hotel and it was an amazing experience. The hotel itself has so much charm. Very clean and had all the amenities. There’s also the rooftop bar where we held out after party and Steve was the manager. He went above and beyond to make the party special. We also corresponded with Tom, Lauren and Jasmine leading up to the event and they were all lovely and very communicative. The food and drinks were incredible. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Oceanside or looking to have a room block for an event!

What a wonderful experience! Highly recommend staying here! Only few blocks to the beach. Wonderful restaurants all around including the rooftop bar and the tiki bar on the ground level. Make reservations for the tiki bar in advance! The room itself is decorated so cute and we stayed in suite 301, was huge! Wonderful shower, comfy bed, and hanging out watching the sunset on the patio was perfect unwind from day of travel. Also they offer veteran discounts too! Very responsive if any questions and just overall a lovely stay! We hope to be back soon!

Clean, simple rooms with nice design touches and great sunset view. The rooftop bar is fun, and feels like your own. Great remake - watched the place being disassembled and rebuilt brick by brick.

It is in a historic building that has been renovated into modern rooms. There is a cool Tiki bar on the ground floor and outdoor bar on the roof top. We did not have time to visit the Coco Cabana roof top bar, but did visit the Tiki bar a couple of times. Great food, drinks and super friendly staff. The Brick is in a great location to the beach and downtown Oceanside. We really liked the keyless entry. Parking is in a parking garage a block away, this was not an issue for us, but I mention it in case someone is unable to walk . Overall excellent hotel and will likely stay again when visiting Oceanside.

My husband and I are frequent visitors to Oceanside. We tried out this hotel and really fell in love with is location and look. Self check in. Private and clean. The room was cute and the balcony was a great plus. The showers were hot and clean. Close to businesses and the pier. The only reason I cannot leave a 5 star is the bed. It was awful. We could not sleep. It was like sleeping on the hard ground. We ended our stay early just to get out of that bed. We recently returned to Oceanside and stayed at another hotel but wished your beds were better because we would have easily made this our go to hotel.

To start off with I had a problem with the booking and gave the staff a hard time about it; even though it wasn't their fault and was likely an issue with how I booked the room. Lauren and her staff handled my frustration very professionally. Once things were straightened out things only got better. The room, especially the suite, was awesome. Very clean and comfortable. Service was amazing. A short walk to restaurants and the beach. The rooftop bar and grill was awesome. Parking is down the street, but not inconvenient. Our stay was memorable and will definitely stay again. Room 201 on the corner has a huge window overlooking the street. I'll definitely request that room in the future. It's not your 5-star hotel on the beach, for an affordable, casual stay in Oceanside, it's highly recommended.

Google
My time at the hotel was amazing. Katie greeted me upon my arrival and was so welcoming and warm. She gave me the lay of the land and provided me information on restaurants and coffee shops in the area. The room was beautiful and the bathroom was GORGEOUS. I loved my stay there and will certainly come back many more times. It was absolutely lovely and the best part is that it’s centrally located and even had a rooftop bar! Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
The Brick Hotel is beautiful. The bed is super comfortable and the furniture and flooring is super cute. Bathroom is huge and the windows let in a lot of natural light. Even the plants were a great addition to make everything come together. A couple things that I thought were a bit weird in the room specifically was the distance between the faucet and the sink were pretty close and the parking is about 2 blocks away, but its not a bad walk AND its specific to your room number which is really nice. I kind of wish the tv swivel towards the bed. Communication between the hotel was great. They assign rooms to you ahead of time and they text you when it's ready. I highly recommend staying at this hotel. 10/10

Yelp
This place by far exceeded our expectations. The hotel is beautiful - vibe is amazing. Food, drinks, view - mostly the staff (shout out to Ashley & Jeremy & crew) were such a delight. We had so much fun, they were so attentive and contributed in a great work event with a lot of people who were basically strangers. We all left feeling like friends - not just with our colleagues but with the staff. We'll be back again for sure. Thanks all! Rhiona

Yelp
This place is the most amazing location. It's so beautiful the view and the room was so amazing. The bars/staff attached both down stairs and upstairs were absolutely amazing. This was a trip worth taking and a location I would definitely recommend.

Yelp
The Brick is wonderful! Easy check in/out, great location, restaurant and bar attached! Our room was cozy (yes, that means small but we knew that going in), clean, cute and the bed and shower were awesome!

Yelp
Love the Brick Hotel it's I guess what the Europeans would call a pension. You're not gonna hang out in your room, but it's super clean boutique style very comfortable and in Oceanside with ocean views (the Pacific is a few blocks away). And if you're in Oceanside, why would you hang out in your room? The downstairs is a pretty awesome tiki bar.Warning: do not drink more than one cobra :)

Yelp
I just stayed at the Brick for the first time over the weekend for one night. This hotel is located in the heart of downtown Oceanside, only four blocks from the beach. It is located within walking distance to many restaurants, coffee shops, and really anything you could ever want to walk to, including the beautiful beach. The hotel also has the Q&A restaurant right downstairs. We didn't eat there, but it looked really nice. There is also a rooftop bar, which was awesome. There is a nice little coffee stand out back as well, called The Succulent Cafe. It was very nice and thoughtful that in our room, they included a voucher for a free drink at the rooftop bar, and coffee at the little coffee stand. The hotel itself was very cute and nicely decorated. I loved the brick walls in the room and all of the decor. It really had a nice modern feel, all while maintaining the historic, old vibe of the place. It was also very very clean. As soon as I walked in the room, it just smelled so fresh and clean. Linens and towels were all spotless as well. Parking was only about a block away in a parking structure; no big deal. I had the pleasure of speaking with the employees prior to check in to ask a few questions about check in and parking. They were so wonderfully nice and welcoming. Also spoke with them on the property, and again, so welcoming and friendly. I'm not sure if they were the owners or not. The only complaint that I have is the noise level. Our room (205) faced the alley way, where many trucks unload at all hours, and there is a dumpster that all the restaurants use. All day and night, we heard the dumpster slamming, trucks, and people talking. The windows didn't seem like they did much to block out the noise. I know this is not the owner's fault and I'm not sure there's much they can do, but it was definitely very noisy. I would still come here again because of how great the service was, how amazing the location is, and how clean the room was.

Yelp
An incredible stay every time in Oceanside. Truly enjoy popping in for a staycation and have been amazed each time I've stayed! Super easy check in and lots of personal touches; decor throughout the hotel and in the room! My mood instantly lifts when opening the door to the room. The location is an highlight. Everything to do in the Heart of Oceanside is within steps of the hotel and it's a quick walk to the beach. It feels like Summer all the time with the great view of the ocean skyline. Onsite, I enjoy going upstairs for the evening with girlfriends to Cococabana and downstairs you have to try the Oysters or honestly pick any of the delicious appetizers at the Q&A restaurant. The decor style, music and vibe was really relaxing. Enjoy!

Yelp
Fun, hip, cozy & convenient! Oyster bar down stairs was delicious & the Coco Cabana had great views, great wing's & unique cocktails. Great location for walking as there are a ton of great restaurants & shops just steps away!

Yelp
Great location for a relaxing vacation. We highly recommend The Brick Hotel. Great food everywhere around hotel. Easy access in and out. Very clean and well maintained. If Oceanside is a destination for you The Brick Hotel is a must!

Yelp
The staff is very welcoming and sweet! The food and drinks definitely will make you recommend them to everyone you meet. This place has become one of our go to spots in Oceanside!

Yelp
This place is super solid and can work well in the right situations. I came for a local staycation from central San Diego and had two girlfriends with me. We had a fantastic time having things so close - from the Succulent Coffee, Q&A Oyster Bar for happy hour and Cococabana for brunch. There is definitely alot of self-serve since there isn't a front desk and we had to utilize the supply closet for things like an iron and ironing board and additional toilet paper and tissues but we were happy to be able to check in and out quickly. There is only one parking spot at the garage a few blocks away so, again, it's a self-service situation but there is tons of free parking on close streets if you are comfortable with that. We also took advantage of the F45 free class (the yoga wasn't in session when we stayed) and we enjoyed having a place so near the Thursday night Farmers Market, Stone Brewing, the beach and pier are a few blocks away, plenty of cafes, wine bars and Handel's Ice Cream. Overall: Pros - super cute aesthetic of the hotel - central location - easy check in/out situation - multiple coffee, drinks and food on site - room is clean, spacious and functional Cons: - text communication has limited hours - we stayed on the top floor and Cococabana is quite loud until at least midnight so I would recommend early sleepers/quiet sleepers not stay on the highest floor - one parking spot reserved a few blocks away

Yelp
Very nice hotel. We stayed here with kids for a weekend , stuff is very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and unique. They have great restaurant downstairs and bar with a gorgeous view upstairs, what else do you need for vacation trip:) Location is great ,close to the beach and all the restaurants. We are really recommend it! Thank you for everything.

Yelp
The transformation of the 1888 building is remarkable - from concept to design to the details. The perfect guest for this hotel is one who appreciates the thought that went into restoring a building vs tearing it down and building new. The completely rehabbed rooms are perfectly appointed with everything you need - not over the top but clean, stylish and well thought out. I appreciate the original brick exterior walls being exposed on the interior as well. The check-in is seamless as you would find with a vacation rental vs a front desk hotel. The food and beverage partners in the building were selected with the hotel guests in mind. Location is amazing and so grateful for the covered parking offered that also has 24/7 real person security - the one block walk to the garage with my coffee and full ocean view is a great way to start the day. For those of you who haven't travelled to Oceanside before - the streets can be noisy at night with visitors celebrating and loud cars - true especially of holidays. Unless you are staying in a remote location you will experience this from anywhere you stay. I have stayed at the Brick Hotel nearly ten times and will continue to stay - the only times I haven't stayed here was due to the full occupancy during my desired dates. It's my go to and I encourage you to stay as well (just not when I want to reserve). Thanks Brick Hotel Staff!!! Carla

Yelp
My boyfriend and I did a staycation to celebrate our Anniversary. The Brick Hotel is very cute and clean. We booked room 304 and didn't have any issues. The manager sent very detailed instructions on how to check in via email and text; we checked in on a Thursday during the sunset market so streets were closed off but she made it easy. She greeted us inside and walked us to our room and answered any questions we had. The parking structure is a short walk to the hotel. You must park in your assigned parking spot which is your room number on the 2nd floor. There were signs everywhere indicating Brick Hotel parking on the 2nd floor. The hotel itself is located near many restaurants, bars and the beach. We received a complimentary drink at the Q&A restaurant and complimentary coffee in the morning. Overall, a very pleasant experience and would definitely be back in the future.

Yelp
I was super stoked to try a boutique hotel with such great reviews. As a reminder, this review is coming from a 45 year old dude that enjoys conveniences. First, the parking is at the top of a structure a block and a half away. Big deal? Nah, but don't forget anything in the car. When you get here, you gotta walk through a bar/restaurant with your extra pillows and baggage. My wife thought there were fireworks going off late, but we surmised it was the restaurant above wrapping up for the night. But it ultimately stopped before sleep time. The digital kiosk died 30 seconds in to getting in the room. The window coverings are white and do not block light. So be prepared for a very bright room at sunrise. Not for us as we like to party and sleep in. We had a "suite" with what I'm guessing was a queen bed, which kinda surprised us. I don't believe there's an ice machine, I know it's cliche but we would have liked one. The balcony was cool, it was clean, nice big TV that telescopes, rooms are stylish with plants and no cheesy artwork. Overall a fair price, but I'd pay more for the conveniences it lacks. The place looks cool and the room looks cool, but it's like a well presented salad at a boujee restaurant but with no actual substance.

Charlotte O.

Yelp
Very satisfied. Building is Older so you can hear other guests but it's small enough to deal with considering there's only 10 or 15 rooms. We love the aesthetic the vibes and the staff at all the bars and restaurants. We originally booked two nights and wanted to stay a third night because we were enjoying it so much. The brick offers a parking spot only a block away. Parking lot was safe and close to the beach. We will definitely visit the brick again soon!

Yelp
This hotel was recommended by a colleague. I wanted to stay close to the office but she nudged me to stay here. I am SO happy she did! The location is perfect - walkable to restaurants and shops and The Beach! The codes to get in and out and contactless check in were perfect and easy to follow. There were coupons for local businesses and the room was clean and spacious. The roof top bar was a complete bonus and the staff at all places were helpful and on point. There is no workout facility (that I could sort out), so I was "forced" to walk along the beach, outside with beautiful weather. I highly recommend and can't wait to go back!

Stephanie B.

Yelp
I had such a great stay at The Brick Hotel! I went for a girls get away and it was perfect. The rooms were clean with great views of the ocean. Also a quiet stay for being so centrally located. The rooftop bar was awesome and so easy to pop up to! Will def stay here again.

Yelp
Amazing hotel, service, and hospitality. The owners are always just a text away, ready and willing to accommodate our needs!

Yelp
Stayed in room 302 that includes a Balcony. We loved it! It's in the center of the area which restaurants and bars are a walk away! The room was great! Spacious & the tv included good streams to play! Only thing is - the walls are pretty thin so you can hear your neighbors.. it does get nosy at night since the restaurant and bar is right below (hotel does inform you) but they provide ear plugs. We didn't have much of an issue since the time we got back to the hotel, we were too exhausted and fell asleep. The directions were straight forward with no confusion. The access points are convenient & easy to locate. Contacting the manager was quick and easy! We went to Temecula which was an hour away and the freeway is pretty close. I would definitely book again!

Trevor G.

Yelp
Great view ! Great service, come see Katie she's the best. You can see the ocean while you toss back some delicious beverages. Highly recommend it.

Yelp
We loved our stay here in Oceanside for a little getaway. The check in process was quick and easy and the parking was close and convenient. We were surprised and happy to see two cards when we checked in for a complementary drink at the bar downstairs and a complementary coffee at the coffee shop in the back patio of the building. Both were really fun spots too! We also checked out the rooftop bar which was really good. The room was comfortable and clean and had a mini fridge and all the other amenities needed for a great stay!

Yelp
We had a lovely stay at the Brick hotel. We are actually planning trip at at one of their sister locations.Everyone that we spoke to you at the hotel was really nice and accommodating. They gave us great restaurant recommendations. Very personal and friendly staff! We will definitely recommend this hotel to our friends.

Yelp
The brick provided an amazing experience. They answered all of our questions and parking was very accessible. Stay was literally walking distance from the beach. They also gave us an amazing deal on our next stay. I definitely recommend.

Yelp
I highly recommend this boutique hotel. We are locals that stayed two nights for the soft opening In room 301 and it didn't disappoint. With rooftop restaurant Cococabana to open this summer, along with Q&A restaurant & Oyster Bar on Ground floor, With the return of the Succulent Cafe's cozy courtyard Local family restored and renovated One of the oldest Building/motel in Oceanside California that was built in the 1800s It's in the heart of downtown with Ocean view, beautiful sunsets, walking distance to fine dining, winery, Stone brewery fabulous donuts and of course Frankies next door for all your Adult beverages

Yelp
The Brick Hotel was AMAZING from start to finish! seemless check, an itinerary of things to do with links was sent before I left, walking distance to the beach, restaurants & Parlor Doughnuts but most importantly above Q & A Oyster! Katie was beyond amazin. I was truly sad when it was time to go. I'll say see ya soon & not goodbye to my Oceanside home!!!!

Yelp
Will stay here everytime we are in town, best accommodations and Katie the hotel manager made our stay memorable and amazing.

Yelp
Loved this place! Awesome location! This is not a Hyatt. This is a small boutique hotel. Very clean, very quiet and within walking distance of everything we needed. We will definitely be back. The rooms are small and simple with super cute details.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel and loved the vibes of the room. Lauren is an awesome host. My boyfriend and I loved the design of the room/hotel. Thank you Brick Team hosts, for sharing your recommendations with us and being so available to answer any questions prior and during our stay! The location of this hotel was perfect and we didn't need to use our car once during the weekend, which was a huge plus for us! Beach and restaurants are all walking distance- 10/10! TV had Netflix, Hulu, HBO, etc! Had no issues during our stay. Thank you again, we had such a great Anniversary here! :)

Yelp
I'm very impressed by service and communication. It was an awesome experience. Communication via text with a real person was quick and easy. The self check in and check out was easy and convenient. I really loved the room, spotless like brand new. Beautiful view, clean and stylish interior. Walking distance to the beach and restaurants. I will be definitely coming back! Thank you guys!

Yelp
Clean, modern, and comfortable! The balconies have really cool views over downtown Oceanside. The bathroom was so cute- black and white tiles with plants hanging down! The reception manager was really nice and provided tons of info for my stay. I found out there are two dog-friendly rooms too, so I'll definitely be back with my dog! Would recommend!

Allison B.

Yelp
Perfect spot for a staycation! The hotel is super adorable and looks just like the photos. I loved all the little details including the live plants. The location is amazing. Walking distance to the beach and tons of great restaurants, bars and coffee shops. It was raining the night we stayed so we appreciated being able to walk downstairs to the delicious Q&A Oyster Restaurant. Our room was on the 2nd floor facing the street. As others have mentioned, there is noise from the restaurant below. Being an old historic-type building, it was expected. Since we were out most of the evening, this didn't bother us. It's worth mentioning though. I recommend bringing a sleep mask if you're light-sensitive. There weren't any black out curtains which is lovely for natural light but makes sleeping in challenging for me. This hotel is a wonderful place to stay if you want to be within walking distance of a cute community. Bar hopping between Q&A and Frankie's makes for a great evening! I'll definitely be back :)

Yelp
Brand new boutique hotel in downtown Oceanside! So stoked to have this in our hometown. We stayed for our anniversary weekend during their soft opening (no rooftop bar/ restaurant yet), but I can already tell it's going to be amazing. We stayed in a room on the 3rd floor with excellent views of downtown and the ocean. A huge west facing door/ window allow a cool breeze through and make the room feel huge. It was modern, clean and welcoming. The digital concierge made check in/out easy as well as provided recommendations for local food/ things to do. I look forward to coming back again when Cococabana and the oyster bar are finished (summer 2022?!).

Yelp
Perfect location. Central to all the bars and restaurants. Going to be even better when the lobby and rooftop bars open up! Room was cozy and clean and the AC was strong!

Tom D.

Yelp
Outstanding property. We loved our stay. Close walking distance to so many restaurants. Surf was awesome! Telling all my LBC friends about this place. Highly recommended. Great service! Thank you!

Sierra B.

Yelp
Loved our stay! We stayed for a weekend and enjoyed the room and all the amenities. Enjoyed the bar, restaurant, and coffee. Room was clean, decorated nice and perfect location. I do wish there was a little more room or shelves for our luggage and possibly some curtains that could shut out some more of the sunlight in the morning. I would definitely plan another stay at this hotel, overall experience was great!!!

Steve W.

Yelp
Great location in DT O-side. Super easy check in and check out and having parking included with the room is awesome. Everyone at the restaurant, coffee shop and bar are super friendly. Highly recommend and plan to make this purchase go to spot in O-side.

Yelp
We stayed at the Brick for two nights (Fri & Sat) and unfortunately came across some large issues both nights of our stay. Here are things we liked about this hotel: - It was in a beautiful building - it was in a very fun part of oceanside - the room looked exactly as advertised - it was clean - the concierge and staff were very responsive Unfortunately, the downsides far outweighed the upsides in this case. When we walked into the room, we noticed that there were few amenities provided. Which to be honest, we love paring down what guests will need to reduce waste. However, one of the few things that we were provided were earplugs. That turned out to be a very large red flag that set the scene for how the rest of our stay went. To provide some context, I've lived in large cities near bustling bars for the past eight years. The biggest downside and the reason we won't be staying at the hotel again is the noise. I'm a city dweller so I'm very used to cars and ambulances driving by, lots of loud noises from people having fun. The bars nearby were obviously loud until 12am but we knew that and they ended their music right at that time, so we weren't bothered by that at all! The main issue was that the rooms were very much not isolated from any noise at all. The main door to our room had no weather stripping, meaning that there was a 1inch gap below our hotel door that let light and noise in from the hallway all night. The tenants of the neighboring rooms in the hotel spoke at a reasonable volume, but due to the poor insulation we could hear them doing literally everything throughout our stay. It seemed as though the walls were very very thin. Our biggest complaint would be the loud noises that occurred throughout the entire night (literally the entire night, we tried to go to bed at midnight and were kept up until around 4am both nights). We believe the noises were from the restaurant downstairs. These loud bangs from presumably cleaning equipment and/or staff occurred every two minutes and shook our entire room each time they sounded, making our earplugs completely useless. In summary, the hotel was cute, nicely located, and had a helpful staff. However, the noise pollution and lack of insulation made our stay a bit miserable, and we tend to be people who can sleep through anything! I will concede that it might be our specific room (204) that was poorly located, but the amount of noise (much of which would be fixed with better building materials and insulation) makes it seem like it would be a hotel-wide issue.

Yelp
I cannot recommend this place more! Above and beyond customer service in ensuring a great stay with a lot to do. We booked during the soft opening for a great affordable price. Everything is in walking distance. Plenty of amazing food and drinks near by. Beach a couple blocks. The best part is that this is a pet friendly hotel and accommodated us by leaving a bowl and treat inside the room. Aesthetically this place is absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend staying at this beautiful hotel and we will most definitely be back! Looking forward to enjoying a drink on the rooftop bar when it opens.

Yelp
We had an absolutely marvelous stay at The Brick Hotel! The room was gorgeous and spotless like we were its first guests ever! The view of downtown Oceanside was so fun We enjoyed the restaurants on site as well! We went to the rooftop to visit Cococabana where we had a delicious appetizer and drinks. Then we went downstairs to Q&A Restaurant and Oyster Bar where we had a truly exceptional meal. We live in Oceanside and stayed here as a getaway and vowed that this will be a regular practice for us.

Yelp
My sister and I stayed here back in June when it was still unfinished. Despite that, we still had an amazing time!! The hotel is super cute and looks like something straight out of Pinterest! I love how modern it is and it's super cool because it has a touch screen in the room where you check in/out, and it gives recommendations for restaurants and activities. A super cool feature that was fun to mess with! The room also felt super comfortable and homey. The only negative was that parking is like a block away, but the hotel is also just a walk away from the beach and cute coffee shops/restaurants so you don't really even need your car! Additionally, because it's a newer hotel it felt very clean! Overall I really enjoyed my time here and will definitely be back!

Yelp
Excellent place to stay ! we loved our room, we loved the staff, we loved the location as well. Our room was spotless and was just perfect! I'm not a few mins to the pier too. we will definitely return! Thank you !!

Meredith P.

Yelp
Amazing! Booked last minute and was very happy with my experience. Although it was a self service hotel they communicated everything flawlessly which made check in a breeze. The room was cleaned impeccably and had a beautiful aesthetic. Was able to enjoy a movie at night and drink coffee on the balcony in the morning. I didn't realize how perfect of a location it would be just 1 block from the beach and in the main hub of Oceanside. Will book again!

Yelp
Really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful room, comfortable sleeping and excellent customer service. The location is superb as well.

Luis M.

Yelp
The bed was uncomfortable, bed sheets were dirty and so were the towels, it was super loud at all times of the night, I could hear everything everyone in the other hotel rooms was saying, the hotel cost is too high for what they offer. 80 bucks per night sounds more like it.
google avatar

Yelp
The Brick Hotel is a modern, beautiful hotel located in the heart of downtown Oceanside. I loved being able to walk to dinner and enjoy a cocktail without having to get in my car. I highly recommend this property!

Alyse M.

Yelp
I stayed at the Brick Hotel over Memorial Day weekend. Such an adorable hotel, completely renovated building. The beds were comfy! The hotel is walking distance from anything you need while you are in Oceanside. We never drove anywhere. We walked to the marina for dinner and to the beach. There is a great cocktail bar next door. Excited for their roof top bar to open, it has amazing views.
