What Indoor Dining Looks Like in Quebec’s Orange Zones | Eater Montreal

"In Gatineau, I found that The British—a popular restaurant—was forced to temporarily close after a COVID-19 outbreak among its employees; the exact number of associated cases wasn't specified, and anyone who visited between March 5 and 12 is being urged to monitor for symptoms." - Valerie Silva

I went to the British Hotel for dinner during a special event. The food and service were average, nothing special. The real issue was the way our event was handled. Management interrupted and shut down the activity, saying it was distracting for staff. The treatment felt extremely disrespectful and made several of us uncomfortable. As women, the way we were spoken to made us feel unwelcome and unsafe in the space. Overall, the experience was so negative that I won’t be returning. I wish I had asked for a refund.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My wife and I decided to take our twin girls out for a relaxed lunch at The British Pub in Aylmer, and it ended up being a wonderful experience from start to finish. The moment we walked in, we were welcomed by a cozy, comfortable atmosphere that felt perfect for a family outing. The service was truly outstanding — warm, friendly, and attentive, making us feel like valued guests the entire time. Our server was great with the kids, too, which we really appreciated. Our food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. Everything was perfectly cooked and full of flavour — exactly what we were hoping for. The portions were generous and reasonably priced, making this an even better value for a family lunch. The relaxed, easygoing vibe made it a perfect spot for parents who just want to enjoy a tasty meal and spend some quality time together without any stress. We left The British Pub feeling full, happy, and eager to come back. Definitely a great place to enjoy good food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Not travel as we are local. Only rating the restaurant. We shared chicken Nacho which was delicious, and had a couple of beers. Lovely setting out on the terrace. There was just a stench coming from one part of the terrace so we changed table.

One of the worst hotel stays I’ve ever had.|We stayed here for 9 nights and unfortunately had a terrible experience. Upon arrival, there were several bugs in the bedroom (4–5). The bedding setup is unhygienic — they don’t use proper duvet covers, just a flat sheet underneath and another on top, which doesn’t keep it clean.||Housekeeping didn’t come at all unless we specifically asked, even during a long stay.||The worst part came when the hotel told us, only a day in advance, that there would be an event in the pub below. It turned out to be a wedding, and they put us directly above it. The noise was unbearable — the bass was so strong that the floor and bed were shaking. We couldn’t sleep, and when we tried to call reception, no one picked up. We had requested a quieter room beforehand, but they ignored the request.||To make things worse, they refused to fully reimburse us for that night. This place clearly doesn’t care about guests or hospitality. I would never stay here again and don’t recommend anyone else to.

My 3 adult daughters and I came here to celebrate a special occasion. The food in the restaurant was decent but the hotel stay was unsettling and unsatisfactory. We stayed in room 301 where the noise from the nightclub below pounded until 4 am. When we finally got to sleep, the fire escape door in the room blew wide open (during the storm) to the outside in the middle of the night which scared all of us. Safety at the hotel is an issue as the hotel section is not secure. There is no front desk and there are no locked doors to separate the bar from the hotel so any of the drunk patrons from the club could use the elevator or the stairs to access the upper floors. Finally the next morning there was no electricity so the elevator was stuck on the second floor and none of the accessibility features were working. Consequently we had to carry our luggage down 3 flights of stairs. When we reached out to discuss our concerns we were offered a discount on our next stay. You've got to be kidding...with a night like that we definitely won't be back again !

Google
Wonderful place and highly recommend . The pub’s food is great and the atmosphere is so nice ! Mostly we get our usual calamari, pizza and draft beer and the great Caesar cocktail. The service is excellent and we always had wonderful servers. Very attentive and nice . Definitely recommend the pub for drinks and food . We also had family staying in hotel part and where happy with the rooms and reasonable pricing .

Service terrible. Our waitress ignored us multiple times, had a bad attitude and never came to check on us to see how the food was or to see if we needed anything. The pizza was burnt to crisp and very short with the toppings.

For my upcoming flight from Ottawa, I chose to stay at The British Hotel, at least my friends recommended it. The hotel room was very nice, with a simple and nice design. There's no doubt about the cleanliness. The bathroom was more than adequate, but of course, this hotel has some flaws. First of all, I would appreciate it if the host saw this. Please, when booking through AirBnB, please don't hesitate to inquire about the personalities of the people who were there. There was a group upstairs yelling wildly, and I think they were watching a game and smoking weed. Who knows??? I called the host and told him I would call the police, but the host said the police don't come to these kinds of events and didn't seem to care. Apart from the management who obviously tried to push us away, the hotel is excellent. Definitely grab a bite to eat at the pub and restaurant, and definitely stop by the little sweet ice cream shop down the road.

Yelp
Went out with my mother for a dinner here tonight. The ambiance was cool, in fact chic pub-like. Hence the name. It was busy but we could still have a conversation easily. The service was good. I got the steak et frites and granted it isn't a steak place so I won't be too harsh. The fries were great and the veggies too! My mom enjoyed her fish and chips, which I believe is more up their ally food-wise. We saw orders of nachos left and right and definitely had food envy because they looked and smelled amazing, Will go for pub food next time! Cheers

Yelp
Met a friend for lunch. The place was not that busy but good food. Server was friendly and it was a good experience.

Yelp
Food very expensive 2 burgers, sweet potato fries and each a soft drink 48$. Also the service was only offered in English. Disappointed not sure I would go back...

Yelp
Great venue and the service is top notch. Good beer list, can't say much about the cocktail list or wine list. Food is decent enough, it's a pub so pretty standard fare. Burgers are the best thing on the menu.

Yelp
this spot has always been my go to. During the day, it is very calm especially in the pub. The ambiance is very warm and cosy and the food gives you the same feeling. You can watch TV and they usually play sports. Large selection of beer on top and wide array of cocktails. During the weekends and nights, it gets a lot busier. It is family friendly but past 11 it is usually filled with younger people around their 20s. On Saturdays and Fridays there is also live music which I love. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. A go to place in Aylmer

Yelp
Sadly the Fish and Chips has completely changed. Batter now loaded in garlic powder and no longer crispy. Fish and Chips loaded with GARLIC POWDER??? WTH?!?!?!

Leah R.

Yelp
Waited 80 minutes for food. The waiter never followed up with customers. It took 20 minutes to order drinks. Soft drink was flat and my lunch order was wrong. Never going back. It gets a zero on 5.

Yelp
Food was delicious, service was amazing. Desert portion of key lime pie could have been bigger.

Yelp
Located in old Aylmer, this classic old hotel has been completely revamped and is full of character. Exposed stone walls and period photos take you back to simpler times. The hotel restaurant and pub open out onto a private courtyard. A wide variety of beer on tap, but the must have is the British Burger. Served on a cutting board with some excellent coleslaw. Loved our meal and the service was perfect.

Yelp
I've never written a review in my whole life, but this time I want to make sure people know what they are going to experiment. I agree that the pub is really nice and pull in a great crowd. The food was super expensive and not good. My son and I took burgers for 18$ each. The burgers were overcooked, super dry and tasted like burnt meat. The fries were cold and closer to mash potatoes than fries. The bill, for two and without alcohol or drink was 51.05. I gave a tip because the guy brought me fries when I complained about them being cold and soft and I wanted to be nice as it is never fun to be this kind of client. I shouldn't have done it because even without the tip it was already too expensive for the poor quality. You want to eat well at a better price? Go to the Hibou in Wakefield. It would cost you way less money but the food is delicious.

Yelp
A usual gathering spot for my family and I however our last visit was likely to be our last as they were unable to accommodate a nut/peanut allergy despite not having issues in the past. What's worse is they offered to do their best in precautions as usual and then changed their mind 10 minutes later. Service here has always lacked attention but we were ok with that as we are a patient bunch. Requests and orders are often forgotten or erroneous. The food itself is great, but variety is poor.

Yelp
Very nice and clean establishment. Nice atmosphere and the seating is spaced which creates a pleasant experience. However the service left much to be desired. No utensils on table, numerous order mistakes, with slow service. The food was above average, however was downplayed with the service. On a positive side my glass was always filled with water from the attentive water waiter.

Yelp
I've never written a review in my whole life, but I will in this case for the sake of the business. The pub is really really nice and pull in a great crowd. Many beer taps and they are always cold. Fantastic patio in the summer and great place to meet friends. Only issue is the food. The menu is very weak and could be much better considering all the positives it has going. The burgers are always over cooked and drier than one could imagine. I've tried multiple at various times, and always a dry almost inedible. Thank god for condiments. Pizza has some potential but the way it comes to the table kills it. It is presented on a fake wood paddle. It's a great idea but since the paddle is plastic, by the time the pizza gets to you, it's a soggy mess. The heat from the pizza steams on the plastic board. Such an easy thing to fix. The charcuterie board could be much improved. The sausage and cheese is very basic. There is no reason for this as almost across the street, there's an amazing sausage maker. This is where partnerships from the community should happen. Please go visit the pub, it's very nice, but don't get your hopes up on the food. Management needs to fix that before summer starts
