Wanted to get some crawfish, so reached out to the go-to Crawfish King. They informed me that they were set up at Broadside, which is only a few blocks from the house so decided to head over. Check IDs at the door and mention that we're here for the food then pass through. Order a few lbs of crawfish and a catfish poboy (which were phenomal!) and sit down to enjoy. After a while, an employee walks up to inform us that there's a 1 drink minimum for being there. Not really sure why this wasn't mentioned up front, but it was pretty strategic to let it be known after being $50 deep and 75% of the way done. No live music in sight. Feeling a bit bamboozled - maybe we'll be back if the music warrants, but 100% not the place to go if you're looking for some weekend afternoon grub, even though the food is great! Check it out if you're into drinking in a gravel parking lot, but also for a live outdoor music venue. I don't know, maybe this is to help pay for the new buildings or something, but I've been going here since pandemic times and have generally had a good time - things change when elective overhead gets out of hand, I guess. Not the end of the world, but if you've got stipulations or costs associated with being there, they need to be clearly stated. Honestly, in hind sight, should've just ignored it - what's gonna happen? Kick us out? You can't fire me - I quit! But seriously, we left within 5 minutes, completely unrelated to this, we were done. 3 stars because the other dozen visits have been good enough - I don't drink so I guess I either paid a cover for the music or spending on food was sufficient, can't remember..definitely wasn't told that I had to buy $8 drinks or kick rocks (pun intended).
Edit - it wasn't to go, I planned on eating there the whole time, figured that was kosher (kinda odd its not..) Also. there was no live music. Charge away but at least advertise that you charge - it's not unreasonable to think that one can sit down to eat at the place that they purchased the food, but apparently that's not the case at your "easy" establishment. If yall were easy, you'd realize that the percentage of the population that goes out to "freeload" at your establishment is negligible at best, and doesn't warrant shaking down people who've already patronized your offerings. How am I supposed to know that purchasing food from your establishment doesn't contribute to your establishment enough to justify my presence there?
