What Is Himalayan Cuisine? Chefs Rethink South Asia’s Mountain Foods | Eater

"A mountain‑inspired bar in Gurgaon run by Darjeeling‑born mixologist Yangdup Lama that uses Himalayan flavor profiles to reshape cocktail culture. Lama notes, "Diners today are not eating out just because they are hungry," and pushes back on misconceptions: "There is a myth that Indian food is only spices. But the mountains are known for their wide variety of greens and berries." His creations include a vodka martini inspired by Ladakh’s butter tea and a rum-based drink using Sikkimese gundruk (fermented spinach), and he also champions traditional beverages—rice‑ and millet‑based fermented brews intrinsic to tribal communities—recalling, "Back then, a bowl of fermented grains not only kept one full, but also provided that extra kick to go about one’s day. I wish to celebrate that spirit." - Rituparna Roy

Have been to Brook too many times to count in the first year of the bar in itself. Set up by 2 of my favorite people (also owners of Speakeasy - cocktails and dreams; Sidecar). Great cocktails inspired by Himalayan flavors; fab food. And absolutely best in Gurgaon service. Surprised that I had not reviewed sooner. Must visit

Designer cocktails and a fantastic ambience that leads to great conversations punctuated with music that sets the mood. The food was good, but perhaps it is better to ask for their recommendations first. Overall, a beautiful experience that I would recommend to everyone.

Our perfect neighborhood bar, literally found this gem in walking distance and this place was excellent. Had the duck ley drink and Maggi point. Excellent cocktails and tried their jhol momos which was the best I've had! Seriously good drinks and food. Their bartenders are super informative and interactive. Great vibe

I ended up at The Brook two nights in a row because I couldn’t get enough of their cocktails. The new flavors were a delight to try, and the food was just as impressive. What really made the experience special was sitting at the bar, watching the bartenders work their magic. Som, in particular, was a gem, he felt more like a friend than just the guy making my drinks. The vibe here is fantastic, with great music and an ambiance that’s hard to beat. Sure, you might hear that the service can be a bit slow, but honestly, that’s probably because the place is packed from early evening until late. Despite the rush, everyone, even the bosses, is working hard to make sure everything’s taken care of. I’m already planning my third night here, The Brook is just that good.

The Brook, Gurugram Coming from the hearts and minds of the team behind Cocktails and Dreams Speakeast and Sidecar, a visit to The Brook is an absolute must. Set up with a mountain cafe theme, The Brook represents to glory of the Himalayas, showcasing ingredients from the region across the food and (especially) beverage on offer. A very interesting place with a lot to offer, definitely more than one can cover over an evening. On the Cocktail front, we started with the soon-to-be-infamous Maggi Point, an homage to driving through the hills and enjoying the always special instant noodles. The Maggi Masala rim really got me excited. Then came the Icy Tongba, made with Light Rum and Millet Ferment, the crispy millet garnish was ace. The last one for me was the Brahmaputra Sour, their take on the humble Whisky Sour. My lovely date for the evening had Hot Toddies for the night - which were great and should be a permanent feature on the menu. The glassware choice is very interesting, 2 out of the three drinks were served in Brass (?) glassware, definitely instaworthy. On the food front, we had the Peri Peri French fries, Chicken Tacos, Chicken Momos and Chow Chow Noodles. All three were fresh and went quite well with the drinks. For all of us in Gurugram, definitely a much welcome addition. Can’t wait to see what all they do here as seasons change and the menu evolves.

Another classy addition by the owners of Cocktails & Dreams Speakeasy and Sidecar. Drinks were as usual top notch. We liked North East Express the most (peach coloured one in the photo). Mountain Martini was good too, it was the first time I ever liked a martini. We also requested for drinks not on the menu - Jaegermeister Sour and Cucumber Elderflower. They were made by Cheasong Lama. If you are a fan of Jaegermeister, you'll definitely like his version of Jaeger sour! Food options seemed a bit limited especially for veg. But both the jhol momos and beet arbi were fantastic. And of course the service was great. These bartenders really do make a lot of difference in your experience. I would recommend this bar if trying for the first time. And if you are a Sidecar or SpeakEasy fan, you'll definitely want to go here.

Newest watering hole in Gurgaon, the Brook is a cocktail bar inspired by the mountains and Hills of India. From the family of Sidecar and Cocktails & dreams, the drinks ofcourse are stellar. I really loved the food too - we went bonkers on the jhol momos and wai wai chow chow.

The bar-restaurant boasts a vibrant, lively atmosphere, inspired by a mountain theme. Its all-wooden interiors and thoughtful decorations create the feeling of sitting in the heart of the mountains. Spacious and inviting, the venue offers a variety of seating options, from bar stools and cozy sofas to regular chairs, ensuring comfort for everyone. The menu features a selection of dishes inspired by the hill regions of Nepal, Kashmir, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Darjeeling, Tibet, Assam, Nagaland, Himachal, and more. It brings the flavors of the mountains to the city. For alcohol enthusiasts, the drink menu is extensive, while tea lovers can enjoy a decent range of options. Non-drinkers will find a limited but unique selection of beverages to choose from. We ordered the veg jhol momos (6 pieces), but the staff refused to split the order into half servings. Jhol momos: 7/10
