The Brothers Café, despite its friendly staff, falls short in several areas. The decor lacks comfort, and the food and coffee consistently disappoint. On multiple occasions, my orders were incorrect or frankly inedible, and the apologies didn't make up for the subpar experience. While the french fries were admittedly ok (unseasoned but fine, fresh and crispy), the lackluster truck stop coffee, soggy BLT, and oddball fish sandwich all left me completely unsatisfied. Even the hash browns missed the mark with their mushiness and weird taste of something left on the grill. But what truly baffled me was their consistent lack of effort to make things right.
Twice out of three visits, I pushed my plate aside, barely touching anything. Instead of offering to fix the issues or take something off the tab, the servers simply apologized and retreated with my fullish plates, bill in tow. On one occasion, eggs arrived without the cheese option that was discussed, and when I finally flagged down that server, they apologized profusely for not writing down my order correctly. But here's the thing: an apology doesn't replace a meal. Eggs are cheap and quick to prepare--why not remake them? Is a happy customer not worth the extra $1 and 5 mintues it would cost them? Apparently not. And no, the restaurant wasn't busy at the time; there were just a few tables occupied, as usual. Yet, the response remained the same: "Sorry, sorry, sorry," and I left hungry and $20 lighter in funds.
Honestly, I didn't want to write a negative review for a family-owned business, considered just remaining silent but they had three chances to get it right, and they missed the mark on nearly everything. Food waste and customer money down the drain is no kind of business model! Maybe this warning will save someone else from a similar experience. Perhaps the unfortunately negative reviews might even hasten the inevitable, making way for a new establishment that knows what it's doing and is willing to fit the expectations of the customer. Or maybe I'm just screaming at clouds and angry at myself for giving them two more chances after that bizarre tasting batterless skin-on fish sandwich (replete with little fishbones!) But my gut tells me that Brothers won't improve. They're obviously thirsty for business (No fewer than 8 pieces of signage announcing they are NOW OPEN outside), yet they've hired inexperienced servers who can't handle issues effectively and a cook who doesn't know a saucepan from a ramekin. The fish sandwich was the only thing I've had there that was actually seasoned, and poorly so (it's not hard: beer batter, salt, pepper, butter, maybe some lemon is how it's typically done, not sandy colored mystery spices) Put plainly, this is a café that lacks passion for food and coffee and it shows. What's the point of an all-day breakfast (and lunch and dinner! Why by the way?) cafe with items devoid of comfort or flavor, no Wi-Fi, dumpster juice coffee, and a depressing and disjointed atmosphere? The Brothers needs a complete Gordon Ramsey level intervention, or they'll be gone soon. And yes, I'm writing this review while hangry! But who is to blame for that?
