Where to Find Passover Specials in the Twin Cities This Year - Eater Twin Cities

"The Brother’s Deli is a great spot for a hot chametz-free meal. Pair a roasted brisket sandwich with a popover and a steaming bowl of matzo ball soup. During Passover, the deli also offers a number of picks off the sandwich menu (an extensive one with six variations on corned beef) on a popover instead of bread." - Justine Jones

11 Enticing Minneapolis Skyway Restaurants | Eater Twin Cities

"The Brothers Deli is a classic New York-style deli with an extensive sandwich menu. Start with something including the corned beef or pastrami that’s seasoned and roasted right in the open kitchen. The Brothers Reuben or the Pepe (pastrami with melted pepper cheese) have rabid fans. There’s also a selection of salads that pair perfectly with the generously-sized popovers. Don’t forget to swing by the salad bar for a scoop of potato salad, coleslaw, pickled herring, bread pudding, or three-bean salad." - Stacy Brooks

Staying at the Marriott nearby and took the sky bridge over to stay out of the cold. I was recommended The Pepe (pastrami) and I chose the side of potato salad. Everything was great. Great sandwich and the potato salad was my style. More creamy rather than giant chunks of potato. I prefer not eating basically fingerling potatoes with mayo on them. Their cookies look amazing but I did not try one. There's a Chipotle across the hall.....don't be an A-hole. Support local and come here.

Google
Any bad review of this spot is a fluke or uninformed. This place has a million options with something that will suit your needs. The ingredient quality is fire, the homemade items are spot on, and the whole experience feels authentic. The price for the product is extremely reasonable. I commonly tell friends and colleagues that their Tomato Basil soup is the best I've had anywhere.

Google
Amazing. Sandwich good. Cookies good. Other sandwich good. I got a David’s French Dip. I’ll be back for dinner.

Google
I have loved this place for years. They make wonderful sandwiches and salads. They have great soups. Every sandwich comes with a trip to their "salad bar" of sides which has one of the best potato salads in the world. The popovers are amazing. A side option, or you can buy them separately. My favorites apart from what was just mentioned: Thai crunch salad, Mama Dora, Kenny's California Reuben (on pumpernickel), Borcht and matzo ball soups. Another great sign, a lot of their employees have been here for a very long time. They must be treating them well.

Google
Food tasted great. Got 2 sandwiches and a few sides… unfortunately they were the wrong 2 sandwiches and sides. I understand mistakes happen but getting majority of the order wrong when the restaurant wasn’t even that busy? lol

Google
Picked up the Messy Bessy with potato salad for lunch. True to its name I went through the 3 napkins I grabbed. The sandwich, potato salad and pickle were delicious! Great spot for lunch in Minneapolis, reasonable prices, friendly staff.

Kari Kingbird

Google
Easy access location in the skyway but how do they stay in business? No greetings nor thank yous, not busy at all. Plenty of seating but absolutely gross tables and grimy chairs. Chicken wild rice soup with almonds was disgusting, overcooked mush with burnt flavors and bits of bay leaves. Mama Dora's sammich was basic: turkey, avocado, tomato and mayo. No lines during noon hour rush, not worth it.

Google
Best place for lunch. Great sandwiches at a very reasonable prices

Yelp
Great deli, that help me deliver a special treat for someone who had Covid and couldn't celebrate Passover. I called them and they took care of my oder and set up a deliver for them. I got some Matzo ball soup and cookies. The food got rave reviews and I have rave reviews about the service. Thanks Brothers for helping a friend celebrate Passover even with covid.

Yelp
My small catering order for 9 people was a big hit! People liked the deli sandwiches, potato salad and Trudy's cranberry apple salad. Large portions and delivery went smoothly. Food was fresh but arrived earlier than expected. Better than late but I was glad I had refrigerator space to keep until it was time for our party. Will be visiting and ordering for lunch again!

Yelp
I have ordered Brothers' sandwiches and salads for multiple catering orders in several different companies. I have never had any complaints (other than "wow, that's a lot of food" - not sure that's a complaint, though). The sandwiches are fresh and the salads come with a very tasty popover! You really can't go wrong - there's something for everyone at Brothers Deli!

Yelp
One of the few places which has stood the test of time between many locations. I come for the popovers, big, fluffy, baked to perfection, pair with any soup. I stay for a half reuben. During the worst times for restaurants, the welcoming atmosphere with employees who don't miss a beat to make people feel valued. It's no surprise they've lasted as long as they have. They may not be a New York quintessential Jewish Deli, but they're ours and I couldn't be prouder of their success. Hoping for many more good years for all of us (fingers crossed) ahead. Peeps remembering Ridgedale location during 1970s, this is your spot.

Yelp
We ordered 15 box lunches for a group meeting. Food quality was ok "meh" and the sandwiches were small for $15/box. Online ordering system is totally flawed as I needed to call in my credit card to pay. Phone call order was short, abrupt, and lacked any kind of "thankful for your order" experience. Someone needs a lesson in customer service. $50 charge to deliver 6 blocks on a $200 dollar order. Kinda steep. Go elsewhere for your deli experience

Yelp
I only give five stars to places I wouldn't mind eating at every day and they did it! I went due to recommendation from a friend for good skyway-located restaurants. I went during the week over the lunch hour and they were hustling and bustling. I probably saw 40 people come in and out of the place with their sandwiches in hand while I ate there for about 30 minutes. There was mostly a long line out the door which moved impressively quickly. With a menu a million miles long, I couldn't decide what to order so I went with 1/2 salad and 1/2 sandwich (which I was impressed you could do with any salad and any sandwich). I got 1/2 of the Thai Crunch salad and 1/2 of the Turkey Melt sandwich on sourdough bread. The salad was huge, I would've expected the full basket of salad to be considered a full size. I was a little put off by the large amount of edamame in the salad but the crunchy pieces were a welcome addition. I never know what to order so I always ask what the best of my options are which also tells me how well the staff knows the menu and how good they are at recommendations. He recommended the Turkey Melt sandwich which I thoroughly enjoyed. I don't typically like deli meat due to thickness of slices but it was so tender and they didn't pack the sandwich too full of meat- it was perfect and I ate every last crumb. I'd love to come back so I could try more of the sandwiches here. I might also throw in some housemade chips and a cookie which looked amazing.

Yelp
A little piece of a New York City style deli right in the Downtown Minneapolis skyway!! I had the Avocado Tuna Melt sandwich and loved it. I think they need a bigger side buffet tray but that is just my personal opinion. Despite its size they side buffet has quite the selection of coleslaw, olives, pickles, relish, potato salad, onions, etc, you name a side and it is most likely there for the taking. Their cookies are buttery goodness!!! I have to exercise self control when I go here but know that any cookie here is solid, no matter the flavor. If you decide to dine in don't expect a lot of space between you and your neighbor because this is a true deli style establishment: come hungry, leave happy, no frills type of spot. So if you overhear a neighbors convo just enjoy the humor and close quarters because it is rare so don't take yourself too seriously. The line moves fast, the service is decent and the food is sure to keep you satisfied!

Yelp
I read such good things about their pastrami, and it was so....average. The bread didn't help, it was almost rock hard. I guess I would go back if I was ever craving pastrami, considering MN doesn't have many good places. But I'm bringing my own bread next time! Their mustard was good. Average pastrami+bad bread+good mustard

Yelp
Great place for a sandwich and chips downtown. If you're looking for a place to eat outside of the chain restaurants with some homemade type flavor, this place is a must.

Yelp
5 STARS!! I'm currently eating the Cousin Steve's Tomato Havarti sandwich (lunchbox) that my law firm had catered today for lunch. *chef's kiss*!! I can't say anything more, I need to eat the other half of my sandwich. You've got a new fan and I can't wait to enjoy the other items you have to offer.

Yelp
Brothers is a very good Deli -- by Minneapolis standards. But I lived in Manhattan for ten years, and it pales in comparison to New York Delis. Today, I had a Rueben. It was served on toasted pumpernickel Instead of grilled Rye. I couldn't taste the Russian dressing, and they didn't use enough Corned Beef. But I have learned to expect less at Delis outside New York. I've lived in nine states. Brothers is far superior to anything in Knoxville, TN (where they put Mayo, lettuce, and tomato on Pastrami).

Yelp
Hollywood Joe? More like Hollywood Schmo. When it comes to my sandwich at least...which was...The Hollywood Joe. It boasts itself as ham, havarti, and spicy sweet mustard encased in toasted challah bread. I was pretty disappointed. Why? This thing was BEYOND slathered in mustard, which as you know, is a pretty strong flavor. It totally overwhelmed the mild havarti and challah (I am not even sure they really gave me challah - it looks like plain old white toast). The toast was no longer toast either, it was pretty soggy by the time it got to me but I had it delivered to work via Foodsby so I am sure that was why. Still. It was so tangy it was hard to finish - GUYS: next time go light on the mustard - it should complement the other mild flavors, not overwhelm them. I got a side of their potato salad which was PHENOMENAL. The downside? It was $1.99 for this TINY PLASTIC CUP OF IT. Are you kidding me? What is this, potato salad for ants?! Buh.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Ok, so the food was fantastic. I ordered through Foodsby to be delivered to my office. I got the Miyas sandwich which is turkey, havarti cheese with lettuce, tomato, and this lovely cranberry mustard. You read me right: mustard, not mayo. So it has this delicious spicy sweetness. Just lovely. Here's my beef: I paid $1.99 up charge for a "side" of potato salad. Again to be fair, it was delicious. But I think I'd call it a "sample," not a "side." The potato salad was scooped with what I assumed was a melon baller and put into a ramekin (you know, those tiny things you put ketchup in). It was tiny! I showed my coworkers my "side" of potato salad and they all laughed. To be fair, I can tell it's high quality. But Brothers, maybe find a slightly better price to serving size ratio and change the label to "taste" or "dollop."
google avatar

Meggers C.

Yelp
Seriously overpriced. $8 for a half a sandwich. Gimme a break. I won't make that mistake twice.

Yelp
This is an outstanding deli! I had the Rueben with a side of cole slaw and potato salad (comes with the sandwich, along with other self-serve choices like beets, pickled herring, and bean salad!). Really terrific on superb light rye. I left thinking, "who could love The Brothers Deli?!
google avatar

Yelp
I got here right at noon and it was packed! Line out the door and folks negotiating their way to a seat like a Tetris game. The line moved surprisingly fast and I was ordering after only a 7 min wait. I ordered the messy bessy which was pastrami and coleslaw on marble rye with some amazing sauce. I also tried the green beans at the salad bar and a fudge cookie. The green beans I did not like. They were cooked with some sort of vinegar and it didn't taste great. The cookie was phenomenal though and the sandwich was the bomb dot com. It was a little smaller than I expected though which was a bummer. Seating is a challenge to say the least. Because the tables are rows and packed close you often had to stand up if people needed to get by you. It was annoying so I'd consider grabbing to go. This place was mighty tasty. However, based on portion size and cost, there are other sandwich and salad spots I would go to for lunch first before coming here.

Yelp
Brothers deli is conveniently located in the skyways. If you don't have the patience to wait in the line for chipotle across the hallway, I would highly recommend giving Brothers a chance. The menu is very very massive and there are millions of items to choose from. They have endless wraps and sandwiches. Additionally they serve delicious salads which come with homemade corn bread or a popover. I have stopped here to grab lunch twice now and have yet to be disappointed. They are quick and very friendly. I tried the Thai chicken wrap my first time and could not believe how huge it was! It was filled with chicken, edamame, carrots, onion, and a delicious teriyaki sauce. I could barely finish half. The second time I ate here I decided to go with the Mediterranean salad. I opted for the half size and I was pleasantly surprised by how much food I still got! I chose the corn bread as my side which was served warm, topped with sugar and filled with real corn pieces. A delicious and semi healthy lunch choice I highly recommend!

Yelp
Enjoyed the Morrocan Chicken salad..."chicken breast, crisp romaine mix, madori dates, fresh avocado, toasted almonds, beets, chopped egg, carrots, dried cranberries and red bell peppers tossed with our white balsamic vinaigrette"...so super yummy! I just LOVED the popover that came with my salad, too! Can't wait to try all the other wonderful items on the menu like....the matza ball soup...and their Bulgogi sandwich...will be back!

Yelp
Got a boxed lunch through work with the roast beef au jus sandwich on ciabatta, potato salad, and a cookie. The roast beef was well cooked and the au jus was great, even room temperature. The cookie was overcooked but very flavorful with lots of vanilla and chocolate chips. The star was the potato salad - obviously made in-house with skin-on potatoes and perfectly seasoned. There was also a side of pickles and a cup with a few pieces of fruit (melon, pineapple, grapes). For a boxed lunch made along with 180 others to-order for a work event, I was pretty impressed. I would definitely stop into the location just for that potato salad.

Yelp
It saddens me to know I may have never entered The Brothers Deli had I not been introduced to it by a friend ~1 year ago. Somewhat of a hidden gem, this NY style deli is located in City Center skyway. You enter to a menu of 30+ sandwiches! to choose from. As my first tip; you place your order at the front, and pay at the end. So if its your first time here step to the side, because (can I call myself a NYer now) you don't want to be that person trying to decide what to eat. Now that you've spent time perusing the menu, let me give you my second tip; order the BRISKET sandwich. On the menu it's "Martin's Brisket Sandwich #1" but if you want to be cool like me, just say brisket. It is DELICIOUS tender slow cooked beef brisket piled on Jewish rye bread that is to die for (I don't normally care for bread - but this one packs flavor!) Whether you've taken my advice, or decided to try something else, proceed to the end to pay. Oh and third tip; grab the tasty lightly seasoned homemade potato chips. Or if thats not your thing, stop by the salad bar and fill up on potato salad, coleslaw etc because it's included w/ your purchase. I like that this place kind of reminds me of the Soup deli from Seinfeld - the food always tastes amazing, it's fast service even when busy, and if you're like me, you don't want any small talk. (although shout out to the nice female cashier who always remembers my order) Why the long review? Well, I love this deli. I would eat here everyday for lunch, if my wallet didn't have a picture of Terry Crews in it silently judging me.
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
For a downtown, skyway place, gotta say this place is great! I've lived in NY, so I know a good corned beef, pastrami or turkey sandwich. And The Brothers brings it! The meat is authentic, the bread is great (Rye!!), the sides are enjoyable as well. When you eat in-house, there is a little "salad bar" type stand where you can get unlimited coleslaw, potato salad, olives, and more. The staff is helpful and friendly. They close at 2:00 so plan accordingly!

Yelp
Stopped in for a simple sandwich instead came out with The Hits Pepe and Matza Ball soup. Hot pastrami on rye and delicious side salads. Very good food and outstanding soup!!!! I'll come a again for sure and order for catering.

Yelp
I always seem to build things up in my head... I can finally cross this one off my "to try" list. Bussed it downtown and hoofed it back on my quest to find a really great reuben or deli sandwich. Did I find it? I don't think so....I thought I would from the rave reviews, but not this trip. I ordered the reuben with corned beef. While it was good, it just didn't scratch the itch. Bread was good, but a tad too buttery and greasy. Ample amount of meat and sauerkraut. My friend ordered the reuben with pastrami. I felt bad for her sandwich. She got short changed on the meat and overpowered with sauerkraut and sogginess which was too bad. We were both looking forward to something spectacular and were met with meh.......... I was oogling and stalking the popover at the table next to us. It looked quite good with the crispy outside. The popover owners said that they were excellent. Perhaps if I trek back, I will try one or the Pepe which I see everyone rave about. This place is quite busy. Dining area can be pretty close for comfort. I didn't find the employyes rude or grouchy, just matter a fact which sometimes you need to be to move the masses through.

Yelp
The food at Brother's Deli is amazing! Just thinking about their matzo ball soup makes my mouth water. The pastrami sandwich was really good - I like their bread and you could tell it was high quality meat. And the side bar was a nice touch! I got to pick out a few sides that went well with my sandwich for free. I will definitely be back there. In the skyway level downtown, it's a hidden gem. I highly recommend it!
google avatar

Yelp
This could have been a MUCH higher score based on the quality of the corned beef, but here is my experience. I went to The Brothers Deli at 1:00pm today and ordered the NY size Corned Beef sandwich. That and a coke were $14.00. When I ordered the gentleman at the register who was not very fluid in English (and sadly I am not fluid in Spanish) gestured at the salad bar and said "salad bar?" I still am not sure if he was asking me if I wanted the salad bar. He didn't give me a receipt and just walked away after I paid. I got back to my office in Gaviidae and opened the box with my sandwich. There it was. A dry sandwich all by itself. No mustard, no mayo, no sides, no pickle, no nothing. Add to that that it was a rather small (NY Sized?!?) ball of corned beef right in the middle of the bread and it really looked unpleasant. While the corned beef was AMAZING tasting, the sandwich was dry and not having any kind of side, (or real communication from the person who took my order at the register), having such a small portion and the high price tag for the sandwich makes me very disappointed in the entire experience. I heard great things about The Brothers Deli. The corned beef tasted good, but the entire experience was left totally flat by terrible service and a lackluster presentation leaving me feeling ripped off. One Word Review: SadlyIMustSayAvoid

Yelp
The day began with a friend saying that we would be going to the Brother's Deli. I was psyched, I have heard wonderful things about this deli. The delicious meat and deli salad bar you can go to. I was more than impressed, I ordered their specialty the Bulgogi on the big board when you walk in and and the meat seemed like a heavenly made marinated meat made from from the Gods of Asia and Jewish cuisine. The meat was marinated for at least a few days and tasted like the teriyaki was tasting a woman tasting a first kiss from a new found lover. There was a sweet saltiness that led to a meaty, flavorful aftertaste that said "This is this the most amazing thing I have tasted ever." The bread was buttered, but not over buttered, it melted in your mouth, like they knew "Oh, yeah, this is good, and I know it." I got it with the works, I would get it without the cheese in the future, I actually took it off before I ate it, I didn't need the extra calories, but it didn't add much to the experience. The sauce and taste dripped into my gullet like a salty yet sweet happiness rainbow saying, "OH YEAH" and then I tried a taste of the potato salad from the unlimited salad bar. This was like heavenly ambrosia. The salad was like a mixing of potato salad with sour cream and they must have put bacon fat or something in there to make it the richest salad I have ever tasted. It can not be good for you, but it is amazing The food and company was fantastic. My coworkers got some sandwiches, which looked fantastic, lots of meat, with fresh looking bread and everyone enjoyed every succulent bite.

Yelp
Would recommend! Decent food and something different from the skyway usual suspects. I got a Cousin Tony to go. Their salad bar that's included is a must. Pickled herring, pickled beets, giardineira, potato salad, coleslaw, dill pickles, green beans, and I know I'm leaving something out. The only bad part was the juice from the slaw got my sandwich a little soggy during the walk back to my office. They should have containers with compartments! Overall pleasant experience, good food, and I'm glad I tried it.
google avatar

Alicia C.

Yelp
They have decent food but the worst service I have ever received! I cannot believe how rude they are when I am here supporting their business. If you come in the morning their customers are an inconvenience. The older man stopped me rudely as I was placing my order and did not say thank you and then tossed my check card in my direction. This is the last time I will be coming here as this is not the first time I have experienced this kind of service. I do have to add that the only rude people are the older woman and man, the rest of the staff is very friendly.
google avatar

Donald R.

Yelp
I came to brothers for a bowl of oatmeal this morning. There is a older Caucasian woman that works here. I watched as she made my oatmeal in the back close to the refrigerator. Before she brings my the oatmeal without knowing I'm watching her. She turned towards the garbage can that is placed to the right of her and proceeds to dig in her nose and then place it in my oatmeal. This was a spot that was referred to my by a workout friends but going forward I would never suggest anyone steps a foot in the establishments while this lady works there. This is a huge health and diease hazard!

Yelp
Ever been in the mood for just the right mediocre salad or sandwich? If so, Brothers is the perfect place. Just the perfect amount of ok and not awful, Brothers delivers every time with consistent mediocrity.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
The food gives it a second star. The first and only time I ate there every one of the employees looked and acted as if they were having their worst day in recent memory. Very rude, enough so that it seemed like I was bothering them by merely trying to place my order. Even the cashiers had little interest in being friendly or even thanking me for my purchase. I'm from St. Paul and we stopped here on the way to a noon Twins game so the likelihood of me returning isn't great to begin with, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Yelp
One of the few five-star reviews I've given to places on Yelp. Really, I've eaten here a half-dozen times, and never had a bad experience. Nothing to complain about at all, and lots to praise. My go-to sammiches are the Reuben and the Turkey Club, though I've sampled others. Had their Chicken Matzoh soup, breakfast, and salad bar as well. The Reuben is stacked improbably high with Corned Beef & kraut. Even a half portion will fill you up for the rest of the day, especially if you get some potato salad & coleslaw. (note: if you have crowns or other dodgy dental work, you prolly want your Reuben on Pumpernickel and not Rye - the Rye bread is delicious, but has some tough seeds) I don't know what they do with their turkey, but it HAS FLAVOR! Great Russian dressing on the Club. For either of these, the bread is always incredibly fresh, and is stout enough after toasting to survive the wet dressings & mayo without getting soggy. I don't know how often they rotate their breakfast specials, but the other day I had their "Rubio" omelette (I even forgive them for naming a breakfast after a guy from the other party). Home-Fries (I guess you need to call them "American Fries" now) fried up with onions, peppers, and sausage. The omelette itself was covered with perfectly melted pepperjack cheese. What they call a "salad bar" is not exactly accurate. It's not bins of lettuce, but potato salad, cole slaw, pickles, herring, green beans, and a dessert bread. If that's not enough of a side, they have home-made potato chips as well as other commercial bagged chips. The price is also right. They do so much business, I guess they don't need to stiff their customers to turn a profit. As far as service, this is not your local ice cream parlor with grinning sycophants. But they're working really hard and efficiently. Even during a rush, your sammich will come out when it's ready, which is never more than 10 minutes after ordering. Wish they were closer. On the other hand, I would never make a sammich at home if they were closer. Just the best Deli in the Twin Cities. Go there!

Angie O.

Yelp
Great turkey melt, friendly service and an overall great experience. I'd highly recommend.

Yelp
Updating because I finally ordered the Brothers Reuben. It was the among the best reubens I've ever eaten, and when paired with their potato salad, I feel like I finally understand why everyone raves about the potato salad. You just have to eat it with the reuben. Take a bite of the reuben. Then take a bite of potato salad. Repeat. Trust me. There's a signed picture of Walter Matthau in the restaurant where he compliments them on their corned beef. If it's good enough for Walter Matthau, it's good enough for me.

Yelp
Yes, yes, and yes. It looks like I found a new weekday lunch spot! Total score. I ventured over to The Brother's Deli Thursday afternoon, a notoriously busy day for lunch outings, to meet a friend. I heard so many wonderful things about the food at Brother's Deli that I insisted we try it out. He knew exactly where it was because he's a frequent across the hall patron of Chipotle. However, I think our trip to TBD will make him think twice next time he wants a giant burrito. We both ordered the Bulgogi, an obvious customer favorite, with sweet peppers. The Bulgogi is a marinated and seasoned flank steak sandwich on french bread. Holy moly. The meat is tender and wonderfully spiced. Just add a little mustard and you're set. We also made sure to pillage the complimentary salad bar full of pickled treats and the infamous potato salad. Don't hold back. This review is based off my first and only visit, but you can bet your bippy I'll head back there soon!

Yelp
I had lunch at The Brothers Deli today. It nicely complimented what I was really craving, which was a giant sticky bun. Gods help me, I almost walked to overpriced, mediocre Keys Cafe. Pregnancy does awful, crazy things to your mind. Anyway, Brothers. I've been curious about this place for a long time, having seen it from across the hallway at Chipotle many times. The place is always hopping, and that's a good sign in the Skyway. I got there early -- around 11:15 -- and it was empty, which suited me fine. I ordered the sweet & sour cabbage borscht, which came with a popover, and got a chocolate chip cookie. The borscht was very sweet, but it was just sour enough to cut it. It was full of cabbage that was pleasantly crisp-tender and not at all slippery or overcooked. The broth had bits of tomato in there too. It was delicious. Now, I come from northern Minnesota, and I know popovers. These guys do popovers right. The outside is crisp but not overdone, with a delightfully messy flaky crumb that gets all over your hands. Crack that open to reveal a moist and tender, almost custardy, airy interior. It's served with honey butter. That's all you need. Don't even think of sullying it with jam. The cookie was large and moist and had the right ratio of cookie to chocolate chip: 50:50. A great way to cap off my sugar feast. If I ever decide to eat meat again I'll be sure to try the bulgogi sandwich. Can a deli do bulgogi right? I might have to have my husband try it and do a full report. The salads in the deli case are gigantic and tempting and they have more than a few vegetarian breakfast and lunch options. I will be back after I'm not pregnant to try the lox bagel for breakfast. Despite the signs proclaiming authenticity, there is bacon on the menu. Just so you know.

Yelp
It's hard to find a decent popover in this town, unless you're at a country club or dining at the Oak Street Grill, but really--ain't nobody got time for that on their lunch hour! That is unless you are hit up the skyway-level Brother's Deli. Across the skyway from Chipotle, this place doesn't look like much from the outside, which is probably why it took me more than four years to find my way there. Now I can't seem to eat anywhere else during the winter months, except Andrea's Pizza, that is (sorry, BD, the food trucks always win out spring - fall). Between my friends and I, we've tried a range of menu items, from reubans to their plays on fresh and grilled turkey sandwches and even their salmon is tasty. This place is legit! It is my love of the popover that brought me to one surprising menu item that I can't get enough of -- the Thai crunch chicken salad. Oh. My. God. Divinity off of Nicollet Avenue! Yes, it is really strange that a Jewish deli is serving a Thai salad but don't question, just eat it! Blended together in just the right lettuce-to-topping-protein ratio are: edamame, chicken, wonton strips, napa and red cabbage, cucumbers, red peppers, carrots and peanuts; which are then tossed in a light lime-cilantro dresssing and topped with spicy peanut sauce. To make it even better, you get a barely sweet, super eggy popover and honey-butter with your salad. As if this place could get any cooler, there's also a salad bar for all customers to enjoy. To be clear, as a certified germaphobe, I'm no salad bar eater. Here, I make an exception but only becuase of one thing--their potato salad! I don't know what their secret it but what they've got going on puts all other potato salads to shame (mom's, standard mustard, egg, German, you name it). Somehow BD has managed to marry smashed potatoes and potato salad via a mix of green onions and what I suspect to be sour cream and mayo. No matter how big your order is, leave room for the potato salad--it's a mouth experience you won't soon forget. The only reason BD doesn't get five stars from me is it really is hard to find a place to sit when you eat there, so I always make sure to go after 1, when it is a bit (but only a bit) quieter. When you do find a seat, though, the tables are often dirty because there's no time for cleanup (althought there certainly should be) when people are churning and burning through the restaurant. Also, the customer service is meh--meaning they're busy and they don't have time to hear you hmm and haw over what to order. It's kind of soup Nazi-like in that way. How does one not waffle when ordering at BD, though? By looking at their menu online ahead of time. Their menu is massive, so it really is a good idea to spend some time reflecting before you go. You just can't go wrong with BD, no matter what you order or the distance you travel for your lunchtime fare. And for real, don't forget the potato salad!

Yelp
Immense goodness. Just got lunch there. The Bul-Go-Gi = awesome It's basically a Philly Cheese steak, but it's their spin with sweet peppers and the meat marinating in something sweetly awesome Get it. Great sandwich. Excellent bread. I have a cookie from them sitting on my desk. I cannot eat another bite because the aforementioned sandwich was literally the size of my foot. I am certain the cookie is amazing too. They have a pickle and sides bar that is free, go load up on relishes and all that good stuff. Get there early, we got there at ten to 12 and there were limited seats and we were about 8 people deep in line. Gets busy quickly.

Yelp
Best Pastrami I've had in Minneapolis, I usually get the Pepe Sandwich, it is so good. The marble rye with thier house made Pastrami and melted pepperjack go so well together. Nice dining atmosphere too, unless you have to settle for a table with a garbage can against the back of your chair. I don't know why some reviewers claim the staff is grouchy here, I've always had friendly service at Brother's. I only get here once every couple months since they close at 2:30 in the afternoon, and I'm rarely in Central Downtown at that time of day. Also let me say that if you're sick to your stomach from not getting any sleep the Pepe is a great cure.

Yelp
I cannot believe that I lived here for well over a year before finding out about this place. The lunchtime insanity scared me away, but I should've known that it was a sign of the greatness within. They could use a 6Sigma expert to fix that broken down assembly line ordering and standing-around-in-a-corner-waiting-for-your-food-system, but the food? Genius. The pastrami reuben, grilled salmon sandwich and bagels made me a believer. Oh, and that potato salad. Unicorns and fairy dust...

Yelp
If you work downtown, skip all of those fast food chains and head straight to Brothers. A friend took me there for lunch one day and I think I went back twice more that week. My favorite is the bulgogi sandwich, sort of a philly cheese steak type with korean flavors and delicious french bread. I've heard their chili is also great but lately I've been stuck on their grilled cheese and tomato basil soup which is delicious. All of their sandwiches come with the "salad bar" which is more of a sides bar than a salad bar. Usually there's green beans, cole slaw, potato salad, some cold bean salads and one "hot side" like macaroni and cheese or chicken wings. They also have really good home made potato chips and cookies. Chipotle is across the way and the line is usually out the door when I walk into Brothers, silly people, they don't know what they're missing.

Yelp
I am in love. I love love love with Cousin Tony!!! The most amazing sandwich under $10 in 55403. Yet, I am not sure why its Cousin Tony and not Cousin Ari, but I still love him no matter the name. Delicious corned beef and pastrami, tomatoes, onions on amazing bread!! Almost as good as New York Jewish delis. I love me some beef and their beef is amazing. Pepe is my second choice. They also have an amazing salad bar with beets, yummy slaw and popovers! They also offer salads, kids menu and breakfast. Sunrise scramble with freshly squeezed oj in the morning is my treat. The service is always super quick and friendly!!!

Yelp
The Brothers Deli proves that you can be situated right across a Chipotle - God's greatest gift to mankind...and by God I mean Steve Ells - and still be able to compete. I wonder what % of Brothers' customers are just people discouraged by their neighbor's ridiculously long lines? Regardless of whether Brothers is your first or second choice for lunch, you will walk away feeling fully sated if not borderline busting at the seams, and happy. Their menu is so huge that I really don't think there's a possibility you won't find something you'd like. They even have "Fit 500" items for God's sake. Again, all hail Steve Ells. I usually go for the classic reuben or tuna salad, and I've also tried their pesto chicken sandwich. You can't really go wrong with any of their sandwiches (unless you ordered the wrong thing, then it's all on you buddy), and portions are decently sized. If you're feeling really indulgent, get the onion rings, they're fantastic. Everything is made to order and comes to you fast; while the line by the cashier can get 4 - 5 people deep sometimes, it's never more than that. The service is brief but polite, and you can tell that the Brothers team works pretty cohesively. Of course, you can't skip out on the free salad bar, with their famous potato salad and other sides like slaw and bread pudding.

Yelp
Found this place by chance. I was just visiting the city but if I lived or worked nearby I would be here a free times a week. Great food, nice people and very reasonably priced.

Yelp
I think Brother's Deli is the best NY / Jewish style deli in Minneapolis! I grew up eating at the Lincoln Dell, which was sort of the gold standard for Minnesota-style deli fare. Brother's is the place that brings me back to those tasty memories! The matzo ball soup is excellent- the balls are textured and fluffy just the way I like them (mind out of the gutter, people!) While salads aren't your typical deli foods, I love to order them at Brothers- try the Moroccan salad, it's filled with delicious stuff like avocado, squash, craisins, and chicken. For a salad that tastes like candy, try the Strawberry Chicken Salad. The best part about ordering a salad or matzo ball soup? The giant popover that comes with it, along with a side of honey butter!

Yelp
I think it would be wrong for me to keep this information to myself so here you go. Everyone must know about the green (pistachio) muffins here! These are the bomb! No kidding?! First of all they are huge and GREEN! These muffins have a buttery, crumbly, topping to die for and yummy walnuts inside. Pretty sure they use pistachio pudding in these as they are the most moist muffin I've ever consumed. These go fast so get there early to ensure you get a taste of the yummy green muffin.

Yelp
The quality was good. The service was fast but after that I am disappointed. The sandwich was tiny. For 729 i guess it should be small but it was tiny. I would make my kids bigger sandwiches in their lunch boxes. Plus there was like 2 pieces of meat. I am still hungry and i went and got the free pickles and cole slaw. Sandwich was 729 and the a can of soda was 3 bucks! How do you charge 3 bucks for a can of pop? I wont come back.

Yelp
Brothers Deli is apparently one of those places that for me is hit or miss... I do love having some yummy comfort food when it is cold outside, and the Pepe is really good even though it is typically something I wouldn't eat elsewhere... I just don't get why the employees are always so crabby. I feel like I would be in more if the food were good enough to warrant some of the attitude I seem to encounter here... There are good days and bad days (same goes for the employees) but sheesh, 3 out of 5 visits I get the rude customer service that keeps me from wanting to come back. I will keep going for the market bar they have there, and yes the potato salad, the Pepe, and a few of the other favorites... but it just isn't my usual spot.

Yelp
The Portabello sandwich is quite possibly the best sandwich I've had yet DT Mpls. And I've had a lot of them. Portabello mushroom, red peppers, pesto, provolone, ciabatta... Heaven. (i recommend it without the onion and tomato.) It can be a little awkward to find a place to wait for your food but aside from that the service is great and the two times I've been there I've enjoyed my food. I'd like to keep trying more menu items but not sure I can pass up The Portabello if I'm there.
