The Budlong Southern Chicken

If this is BUDLONG’s quality, BUD, they ain’t gonna be around LONG. Awful. First right off the bat, they didn’t get my order right. Paid for the fried cornbread appetizer, and they gave me the one piece. Tried to call to get it corrected, no answer. I didn’t miss much because it tasted like some fried BS that you get at the county fair. I don’t know what I was thinking on that one. The Mac N Cheese is bland and cheese sauce tasted watery, but was still somehow dry. Grabbed a fast and furious dog, and the wiener was cold to the touch. This thing had the best flavor out of everything, even cold. Last I grabbed the southern chicken sammich, naked, because I wanted to taste the actual fried chicken. It was supposed to be dressed with pimento cheese. The cheese was some shredded cheddar (cold) with a few pimentos tossed in, and covered in what I think was 1000 island dressing. Not good. The chicken itself was ok, but started to get bland after a few bites. I should’ve walked when I saw the lady in back (the cook) messing around. Unprofessional and was a big red flag. My food was already up when I saw her touch her mouth with her gloved hand. 😩 Do yourself a flavor and grab a Popeyes chicken sammy instead. Cheaper and will taste better. Not sure if Tx has Jolibee, but that chicken Sammy would bee far superior as well.

Solid all around! The Nashville hot chicken classic sandwich was solid. Didn’t find the sauce or toppings too noteworthy but decent enough for the price. Was pretty empty when I went but service was solid and food was clearly made fresh. I don’t think I’d go out of my way to eat here but if you’re in the area and craving upscale-ish fast fried chicken. It’s a decent enough option

I rated them 5 stars at the beginning but I take that back. When they opened, food was good, portion was great. Now everything is smaller. Their chicken patties got smaller. Ordered drumsticks and I was given something that could only be some frog legs but chicken drumsticks. It happened to me 2 times. Walmart wings are bigger than their drumsticks. They don’t give sauce with the stuffs so I purchased their sauce for $49 each and guess what, the sauce was only 50% full of the cup. I reported this to the manager and the corporate and happened to me again so they don’t give a cr ap about anything. Either the employees or the owner of this franchise is cheapest of the cheapest that they sell half pot sauce for that price let alone giving it with the food. The new employees I encountered hard to understand English and I don’t speak Spanish so I had no patience to deal with this. It’s not on them but the owner. I had high hopes but not anymore. No wonder this place is empty 95% of the time after months of opening! I RECOMMEND NOTHING FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT.

Placed a mobile order this evening and ran in to pick it up. I asked the woman if a fork was in the bag and she shrugged then pointed to a man as if to say she didn't understand my question. I should have checked my order when I realized she didn't comprehend, but that was my mistake. As for food, I ordered a chicken sandwich with pimento and pickles on the side, everything arrived on it and the bun was soggy and pickly. The chicken was chewy and sliced cheese was weirdly thick and hard. I also ordered Mac&cheese and corn bread. I love Mac and cheese but would give this a D, it was almost metallic in taste. The container I expected to be my corn bread was actually fried sweet pickles without any dip, which I did not order. They were a bit odd, not terrible, but fresh with ranch would have been better. I would note that management reached out and addressed my concerns. I hope more quality control goes into their orders.

This place was dead when I came to order some take out. Spent $50.00 for food. I got 5 tenders, 1 sandwich, sides and a drink. If the food was good then I wouldn’t complain about the price, but the tenders were so overcooked they were inedible. The kids just ended up eating sides and the sandwich was too hot for them. Honestly don’t waste your time, money or calories at this place. Go to Mike’s Chicken instead, the food is way better there is no comparing the two.

It was good, but not as great. I see the potential to be a staple for chicken sandwiches in the area, but every dish lacked a bit of flavor, and that's not good on the first visit. Also, the sides must be on point, and the mac n cheese and banana pudding were average at best. The chicken biscuit lacked honey and butter, while the sandwich wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t on the same level as Dave’s or Ricky’s chicken sandwiches. Will I visit again? Maybe in a year, we can see if the taste has improved by then.

I ordered a good amount of food since it was my first time hearing about this place, only because I received a flyer in the mail and out of curiosity looked up and on like the food looked pretty good so I decided to try it out. I ordered the southern style chicken sandwich combo with original spicy (level 1 spicy) and swapped the thigh meat for breast and yes, yes I know thighs are better than breast because they are more juicy but still for me to pick between breast and thigh…I am picking breast. I also ordered the chicken and waffle cone, and a side of Mac and cheese. My boyfriend ordered the Yo’ Mamma’s sandwich just as it comes. And we both wanted to try the tenders so I ordered 2 tenders. My total for one combo meal, one sandwich, 2 tenders, and side of Mac and cheese was about 50 dollars. As for the taste the sandwiches were good, a little thin but that’s because the breast is longer than it is thicker, a good 2 bites of just chicken on both sides before biting into the bread with chicken and all. The original (spicy 1) was pretty spicy to me, had my nose leaking but only because my taste buds can’t handle spicy, what’s spicy to me might not be spicy to you. My favorite was absolutely the chicken and waffle cone, and the French fries ouiiii and especially the ranch I can tell it’s made in restaurant like Wingstop ranch. The tenders were okay the breading is a type of style I haven’t tried so it was something new not my favorite to be honest but still good. A good tender for me is they way they make them at krispy krunchy chicken because they are a big size and crunchy breading I also like raising cains only for the style of bread not the tender size, to me they are to small. My boyfriend said his sandwich was good but was missing the onions (it was listed in the description of the sandwich) and for my pickle people they use sweet pickles in case it’s not your cup of tea but I love any kind of pickle. The one thing I didn’t like was the Mac and cheese, it tastes dry and was missing the cheese flavor, I hope change the recipe soon because good Mac and cheese isn’t hard to make and I know they have the potential to make it better. I’ve never had banana pudding but decided to get some after eating most of food and for a person who has never had it was pretty good. Food rating 4.5/5 Attentiveness from the guy that was working the register taking my order I could tell he was ether the manager/ boss or owner but he was really nice He gets a rating of 5/5 really a good guy! At the end of the day, I will be back soon to try something new or get my favorites 😂

Budlong is delicious! I also thought it was properly priced for a chicken spot. Some places tend to overcharge. I also loved the side options such the hushpuppies and mac n cheese! Remember you can validate your parking at the restaurant !!

The food is amazing, the staff super friendly. The cook and the lady on the counter, both very nice. This is my new spot for lunch!

Great sandwich, THE WORST SERVICE AND WAIT FOR FOOD WE HAVE EVWR EXPERIENCED We came dying a break for lunch. We came over and used the single kiosk to order our food. They are next to a convention center and only had one person making food and no other employees. It was insane. It got to the point that people from the conference started exploring food, pulling food from the window, working the screen to call out orders, going into the fridge to get condiments for orders! Literally the customers were working because the dude cooking was making one sandwich at a time... he was cutting a tomato, cooking one chicken breast at a time... it was like they had no idea how to make food for more than one person at a time and they had no idea that they are near a convention center and that there would be a ton of people at given times. Sandwich was great but NEVER go here is there is a line or during a convention. EVER!

It was okay. My original chicken sandwich and fries were really good. However my daughter did not like the nuggets. Place was dead on a Sunday. We were the only ones in there. Not somewhere I need to come back to.

This is the first location in Texas and it has only been open for about 3 months. We took a lovely walk along the canals and then were looking for a lunch spot. I had this place Yelp bookmarked and I had not seen the Toyota Music Factory complex before now, so we drove the mile over. The place was empty at 2pm on a beautiful Saturday - I imagine it is quite busy when anything is playing at the TM venue. We ordered the southern fried chicken sandwich combo (to split) with fries. ($18 including tax and tip) The southern sandwich comes with pimento cheese and I find that hard to resist on any menu! - Splitting the sandwich was plenty of food to not leave you too stuffed. Casey was working the register - and maybe he was helping in the kitchen too. Our sandwich came out pretty quickly and was super hot. It was very crispy and a bit sticky, not too hot, very tasty!! Quite large too - the chicken thigh extended out quite a bit from the bun. The fries were Crinkle shape (my fav!), nice and hot, not too salty. FYI, with a combo you have a choice of only fries or mac and cheese (though there are other side options available al la cart). There was a card on the table to register to win $100 gift cert, so we both registered. Casey came by after to ask us to register, when we said we already had - he said we were entitled to a free banana pudding for doing so. Then he bought out TWO banana puddings. WOOT!! I think the 2nd pudding will be better tomorrow when the vanilla wafers have time to absorb more into the pudding. The free puddings got them the extra star. Casey was great - and really seemed to care that the few customers in the joint were happy and well taken care of. Bathrooms were clean. Couple suggestions: that they had ketchup as a "pump option" - rather than all individual packets. And boy oh boy I would have LOVED a DIET dr. pepper on tap (they had regular).

This place is so awesome and so good! The customer service is outstanding. Came in today to try their The chicken fried steak sandwich- Nashville style! Let me tell you what! It's everything and more. It's perfectly made for a Texas size feel! Everything blends perfectly together! Asked for fresh fries and they came out perfectly salted! Absolutely enjoyed every bite! This place is clean and is the perfect place to enjoy some hot Chicken! They do have one item on the menu that's bone in. I will be trying that next time! My server Cassey was wonderful! Loving the sweet ice tea and can't wait for the beer on tap to open. Please come and enjoy! Great for solo or groups and they do have a bar area top that you can dine at as well! Cheers

The Budlong Southern Chicken is a fried chicken sandwich chain that serves Nashville Hot chicken sandwiches that uses chicken thighs instead of breast. This is the first location in Texas. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - The Budlong Southern Chicken is located behind Bar Louie in the Toyota Music Factory. Like all restaurants at TMF, try to get street parking, otherwise you have to park in the garage, which can be busy on event days. The restaurant itself is a long, quick serve style restaurant with booths along the sides, tables in the middle, and cool Budlong art and murals on the wall. If only it had better parking.... 1/2 Star. Service - The staff is super nice. We went on a grand opening day where the line was to the door, but the staff were all smiles, were super patient with our orders, and made sure we would enjoy our meals. Like most quick service restaurants, you order, give them your name, then wait for your food to come out. 1 Star Food - I ordered the original Nashville Hot chicken sandwich with Cajun potato salad. Kudos to Budlong because the thigh meat works. The chicken was hot, plump, juicy, and contained a good amount of heat. The soft, spongy bun held the chicken and slaw well. The slaw cooled the heat a little, and the cold, creamy Cajun potato salad cooled it a lot. IMO, it was a perfect paring. I chose the buttermilk ranch. And while I didn't dip my sandwich in it, my teens ate it with their hot, crispy crinkle-cut fries. But the star of my meal was the fried corn bread. Served with sweet butter, who knew boring cornbread could be transformed into such greatness? The only downer was the chocolate pie. The dough was very chewy and the chocolate a bit gooey. Otherwise, a great meal! 1 1/2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. While I'm not a fan of the parking at Toyota Music Factory, I'm happy that I now have a great local option (I live in Irving) for Nashville Hot Chicken. I'll be back for that fried corn bread! 1 Star

We went here around 2:30-3:00pm it was dead, only one other customer in the place. Ordered chicken tenders (plain for two kids) and a sandwich (for myself). The tenders were so over cooked they were almost black, the kids couldn't even chew them, they were so dry. The kids ate all the sides and then I got them some food in our hotel restaurant afterwards. Honestly for $50.00 for this food is insane. Just go somewhere where you know you're gonna get decent food. Don't go here.

Great restaurant when you want a quick meal, but quality. Visited here while in town for a conference and was thoroughly impressed with their menu and variety of offerings. It's a clean facility, plenty of parking, and surrounded by many other businesses. Service was great although I don't think they were expecting a massive lunch crowd. I had the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich with Fries which was really good. Definitely give this restaurant a try if you're in the area!

Amazing chicken spot with even better service! Stopped by to grab their second hottest chicken sandwich and one of their breakfast sandwiches. Both were amazing and super fresh!! Pro tip: be sure to grab their breakfast sando with fried chicken and egg. The presentation is unreal and it is way too Yummie!!

Great sandwich - The Picnic with Nashville Hot Sauce. The fries were really good. Fresh, hot, and crispy. Atmosphere fine. A bit hard to find via GPS but just head to the backside of Bar Louie. Efficient friendly service.

When Anthony posted about this place opening, I knew we had to try it. Boy oh boy was it good. Their grand opening was today so it was busy. Because they have a great staff, it wasn't crowed. They did a great job of taking orders quickly and getting food out. The staff were fantastic. We have "enough" chicken places in Irving. Turns out, maybe now we do. Their chicken isn't like any other chicken I've had. I had the Budlong Original chicken sandwich. It was a wonderful blend of flavors and just the right serving size. The Mac & Cheese was good. Coke tasted like that Coke you get from Mexico. You know, made with real cane sugar instead of the stuff Coke is usually sweetened with. Yummy. My wife had a sandwich that she enjoyed but I don't remember which one it was. We got the banana pudding. Boy oh boy. Was it good. That just may have been the best banana pudding I've ever had. We'll definitely be back to try so many of the other items offered. We'll start next time with popcorn chicken and fried cornbread.

This is another restaurant in the Toyota Music Factory. We came on the Grand Opening Weekend. The restaurant has a Fast Casual setting. As mentioned in previous reviews, they use chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts. We got the Nashville Hot heat level. The combination of with the Cole Slaw was perfect. The French Fries had special Garlic Batter on them and were tasty as well. For sides, The Mac and Cheese had a little jalapeño flavor in them. The Potato Salad seemed to have a little dill and was delicious. You can't forget to mention the Fried Corn Bread. This was a great idea. We finished with The Banana Bread Pudding. Everything was great. We will definitely come back.

This place is a hidden gem! The food was fantastic! Made fresh. The sauces were delicious. The price was so affordable. It was clean and so comfortable. Everyone needs to come check this place out!

Great fast casual fried chicken restaurant. Unique how they use chicken thighs instead of breast on their sandwiches, and it actually makes it more flavorful. Some other unique items worth trying like fried cornbread. Service was quick and attentive, would definitely go back

Ok this place is standing on business when it comes to food and customer service. The food is tasty and the manager is lovely, he made my ordering experience educational and nice.

i got the Chicken and waffles without honey, it's pretty good and cheap, $5 for about 5-10 pieces of chicken. It came out really hot though so I had to wait for it to cool down. It comes with powdered sugar ontop and gives it a flavorful touch, the chicken is salty and delicious coated and with the powdered sugar it taste great. It also came out pretty fast. I would give this a five but when trying to receive a coupon for a sandwich we had to order online and wait longer.

Excellent food/Excellent service. Food extremely fresh and hot and big portions. My only suggestion is more local marketing, including surrounding cities. We had no idea this gem has been here since last October. The only way we found out was we do Advantage Dining and you were on that....ps. Thank you for that.

Pretty good. Wasn't too busy when we went at around 12:30pm on a Wednesday. Chicken was nice and hot big tenders.

Picked up food to go, the egg was totally burnt, not just slightly either. I took a bite and got a terrible burnt taste. The chicken even tasted burnt. The biscuit was stale too. I also added a classic tender but it was too spicy to eat. I think they must have used the wrong seasoning on it. So basically a wasted $10.

I wasn't impressed with the food or service. The cashier had a hard time understanding the English language. I guess you get what u hire. I support restaurants that are more diverse and hire all races of people. Bye!

I got my BudLong Southern Chicken Sandwich to go. It was delicious, very tasty! I will be going back for more. I want to try the Cajun potato salad. They have a great menu. Nice atmosphere!

Food was very good. Banana pudding was very good. Service was great! Ambiance-radio was too loud. But he did turn it down after we asked.

Extra charge to sub for the white meat instead of dark. Chicken is juicy with a thin batter that has crunch and flavored with just the right amount of heat. Seasoned crinkle Fries were cooked to perfection!

Great Location if you are looking for Spice or Ready to turn up the heat Get the Original Budlong Chicken Sandwich Extra Hot will definitely have your nose running. The Chicken N Waffle cone was good too Husband stated he needed more chicken but I think he just wanted more cause it was good. One thing I would recommend is invest in Cheese fries would definitely boost this place up even more

absolutely awful all the way around. soupy mashed potatoes. cold fries. drumstick batter had zero texture. flavor one note..bad. dipping sauces were sterile. ordereed and paid for the fried pickles but turns out they didn't have any. at least the one employees was nice. this on a Friday after 6pm. should've known since I was only customer. my bad. would never try again. even the name is stupid.

New favorite place. Where to begin. I've had the original chicken sandwich in "naked" (unsauced) and with the classic sauce. Both were great. My husband got the Southern Style and that is my new favorite. The fries are better than your standard fry, the mac in cheese was phenomenal, and hush puppies? Don't skip those - ever. And don't forget the banana pudding. I *hate* bananas but love this. I truly don't think there's a bad thing on the menu. It's a new place and I can't wait to try more things here.

I ordered takeout and it wasn't late, but even though the fla or was good it seemed as if the bun was old and hard. I would have liked it if they did not give us the last buns sitting in the back.

Honestly this place is an absolute hidden gem. Not sure why it's not more busy throughout the day but genuinely one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had. They use a thigh on the sandwich which is so tender and you can always upgrade to the breast. I highly highly recommend this place for the food and the amazing customer service. I found it recently myself and now come back at least once or twice a week. The guys who are running this spot deserve more traffic with how good their food and service is.

The customer service was great! The place was clean. I got the Budlong original (heat level - classic) with fries. I did not like the comeback sauce. I got this as a dipping sauce for my fries. My sandwich had the same sauce as well. Since I did not like the sauce as much, I did not enjoy the sandwich. But I will be back to try their other menu options.

First time trying it because I passed by the westin. One of the best Nashville hot sandwiches I've ever had. Try it with the roasted garlic parmesan. Def worth it

Food at Bud Long is the star. Everything has a well made sense with attention to details including basted tenders, homemade ranch, and delicious sandwich combinations. It's worth making the drive for a solid chicken combo as well as the friendly staff.

I love it here and it's Halal! Definitely good food and a great price. I suggest the original and the breakfast sandwiches.

OMG, this place was so unexpectedly good. I was out at another restaurant and looked across the street and thought I'd check it out. Best decision I've made in a while. The manager was so welcoming, he gave his recommendation to us. I got the fish sandwich with fries. It was so fresh and good. The amount of fries were insane. I also got their biscuits with strawberry balsamic jam.... Pure heaven. If you are in the area, please do yourself a favor and go.
