The Best Restaurants in and Around Yellowstone National Park | Eater

"In case you didn’t see enough wildlife in the park, the Buffalo Bar delivers on its namesake with hulking taxidermy decor and a menu to match. There’s buffalo in the tacos, burritos, chili, meatballs, and meatloaf. The convivial lounge is anchored by a central bar and casino machines, and there’s a pool table and dart board. To drink, the bar has a broad selection of local beers and a whiskey-centric drink list, including pours from nearby distilleries like Wyoming Whiskey." - Matt Kirouac

EXCELLENT FOOD My wife and I dropped by for dinner early summer 2025 - on a Thursday. We chose the patio, and found out it is self seating. The bartender got to us immediately greeted us and got us water. The menu offers a nice selection of foods. My wife and I chose the pot roast and the meatloaf. For drinks we chose a lemonade, Smoked Old Fashioned and a glass of red wine. The food was awesome! Real nice. And the cocktails were well made. There was live music playing in the corner. Overall a very nice experience here.

We needed a place where we could eat outside to bring along our dog. He has been along with us for the road trip the last couple of weeks. The Buffalo Barr was recommended because they have a patio where kids and pets are welcome. We kept the dog leashed, and at another point there was a dog, but it went well. The food was delicious. My spouse liked her salad, and I really loved the bean burrito. One kid had nachos and the other one had chicken. Everyone seemed to like the food. For new parents, in the back of the patio, there is a little kids' table and some fun things to do for kids. The atmosphere was laid-back. I told our waiter we had been camping, and could we stay a little while. They let us sit at our table for 3 1/2 or four hours. I kept checking and there was always an empty table or two. But it was so lovely in the patio. They have trees that give some shade and a tall fence for privacy. It had a really good vibe. I highly recommend the Buffalo bar.

We had a great experience here during our West Yellowstone trip. The mountain fries are so good! The service was great. This place has a great vibe that ties in with the local aesthetic. The food portion sizes were huge. Lots of flavor!

Google
Excellent steak. We stopped here after a day in the park and pleasantly surprised the food. Good portions and prices. Huge salad and steak. There is a lot of stuffed animals that kids seem to enjoy. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Google
My love and I really enjoyed dining at The Buffalo Bar. We had buffalo balls and side salads. We also enjoyed a couple of pints of great craft beers. The service was top notch as was the food and beer.

Google
Sitting outback after a day of hiking listening to live music, having a local brew and dining on Buffalo meatloaf and more. Came for the burger but stayed for the tacos... Was really a very pleasant experience. Indoor gambling, well stocked bar, family friendly no wait experience. Would definitely come back. The curds were good little crispy but good, the meatloaf was well seasoned and topped with an almost buttery good cheese... But the real winner was the carne asada tacos.

Greeted as soon as we walked in. Service was great! Ordered food and everything came out quickly, fresh and hot. Beer was cold and cocktails were delicious. Definitely a refreshing place after a long day at Yellowstone. This is one place I'll return to.

Google
We had the loaded fries before this food came out and they were a 10/10. Everything was in the 9’s and I don’t say that lightly. Sorry for my bad photos but we were just so happy to have found good food after many disappointing outings on this trip. This place is a hit and I highly recommend you stop in, you won’t be disappointed!!!!! 10/10

Yelp
Food was great!! --Buffalo Burger & Buffalo Gordita Tacos tasted fabulous and were big portions! Service was excellent and atmosphere was energetic & fun!

Yelp
The service was amazing ! Great selection of non alcoholic beers ! our waitress went above and beyond to accommodates our food allergies . Dirty glasses and plates were gone n seconds the staff never stood still , they were serving guests! Great experience !

Yelp
After an incredibly long day in the park, my husband and I stopped here around 430pm for an early dinner - we really had our pick of the place and were quickly waited on. First, the portions here are absolutely massive. We split the queso with buffalo chili, which was delicious. I had one of their burritos and it was truly massive...but it really was quite tasty. I wish I could have eaten more of it - but could only eat half since it was so large. My husband opted for one of their burgers - trading the patty for a buffalo patty; he finished every bite of it. Overall, it was an eclectic menu - but good good for a sports bar.

Yelp
Despite a steady stream of patrons, which is usually a good indicator for a restaurant, no one in our group of four adults enjoyed our food. They were edible, but not good enough to bring us back. There were several TVs and the NBA playoff game drew plenty of attention. We got pictures next to the stuffed bisons. The server was fun and competent.

Yelp
Open late, even on a holiday. Great food and super attentive servers. The West-Mex Burger was outstanding with the chipotle sauce stealing the show. My wife had the Chicken Tacos and was super happy with them. This is an excellent stop and not so much of a tourist trap. Loads of table seating that is set up for groups or just couples. It does get a bit loud when it's full up but it is really good. Pricing is a bit on the higher side, but expected in this area.

Yelp
We had cheese curds and the burrito rojo- both were great. Cheese curds were square with good pull. We went late at night and it was still busy so service was slower. Loved all the mounts inside

Yelp
Beer and cocktail selections are great, the patio is pet friendly and perfect for a nice day. The food is good but inconsistent. I had the carne asada bowl and loved it, husband had a bison bbq burger and the burger was well done and chewy with an overly toasted bun, so that was a bummer. French fries are the good thick kind that are crunch so that was yummy too. Service was great and treated us like gold. Would come back and try other things on the menu!

Yelp
We stopped into what we thought was a little sport's bar in West Yellowstone. It turned out to be so so much more. The place turned out to be huge, with really good staff, above average menu, and a good selection of drinks. We were just looking for an appetizer to hold us over till dinner so we ordered the 'Hog Trough Nachos' to share. From the time we ordered to being served was amazingly quick, and we both thought this was one of the best nachos we've had. They serving was huge and we actually took some home. Talked to a few people there, and everything from hamburgers, burritos to tacos were enjoyed. I would totally enjoy going back.

Yelp
Outstanding food, service and vibe. Great place to go hangout and watch sports or just to chill and relax. Drinks have a good pour. Bartenders are friendly . Good prices and large portions. Cool decor. Fresh food!!! The brussel sprout appetizer. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We came for Yellowstone park at the, definitely not the food . It was ok , wife had a burger it was good , I got the chicken fried bison it was good, but a little over cooked & tough , also no veggies what so ever . Not many places in town so again it OK . Service was also OK , the girl helping us seemed a little put out .

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere right outside the park! Quick service for some hungry hikers. The food was also amazing and huge portions. 10/10

Yelp
Pick-up order. Pot roast sandwich was a large serving, but was a bit bland and definitely too pricey. Husband got the Old Faithful sandwich and liked it. We all really liked the Brussel chips, even our small child. Although our meal was pretty pricey, it worked in a pinch when we got into Yellowstone as they are open late night.

Yelp
While the drinks were good, the food wasn't my cup of tea. The wait staff was incredibly friendly but the buffalo salad I had just had a bit too much sauce. Not negative - just my preference.

Yelp
Went here two days in a row while visiting Yellowstone. You don't expect to find good restaurants at a touristy area but this place was really good. They were always busy but managed to seat 4 of us in a short time. Portions were generous and food was quite yummy! Definitely recommend two appetizers, Hog nachos and Thai shrimp with sweet chili sauce. Really, really yummy!!! For our dinners, over two days, we had fried cod tacos, steak fajita, bbq chicken salad, pulled pork burger, chicken tacos, and fish n chips. All solid. Fries were the best....so crispy and hot!! Service was excellent and we were just very happy to eat here as this restaurant had everything that you can expect of a good restaurant!

Yelp
Casual bar in West Yellowstone. Nice stop after a long day in Yellowstone. The theme is Buffalo and it's amazing bf to see the size of bison up close and personal. The food was good. Some typical bar food. A lot of bison food so you can't go wrong! The huckleberry lemonade was very good and I recommend it! Our waiter recommended the bison sliders and they were excellent! My husband had the bison fried steak and said it was a little chewy for his liking. The mashed potatoes were good!

Yelp
Buffalo Bar is everything you want after a long day exploring Yellowstone rustic charm, delicious food, and the friendliest staff you'll ever meet. The bison burger was absolutely legendary juicy, perfectly seasoned, and stacked just right. Their local brews and cocktails hit the spot, and the atmosphere is pure Montana: laid-back, lively, and authentic. Whether you're here for a quick drink, a family meal, or to soak in the local vibe, Buffalo Bar delivers. Even the decor tells a story part saloon, part cozy lodge, all awesome. Can't recommend it enough. This place captures the spirit of the West in every bite and sip.

Yelp
What a great find, yet again, in West Yellowstone. This place was where I chose so that my wife could have a nice steak. But before that, we had some of the most delicious chicken wings I have ever had the pleasure to sample. I am becoming a huge fan of huckleberry flavor, the more I am here in the. West. These wings with huckleberry bbq sauce are a taste sensation. Then my wife enjoyed the ribeye, while I had the buffalo meatloaf, both of which served with the red skin mashed potatoes. The steak was not the finest cut (a little stringy in spots with veins) but the flavor was good. The meatloaf is a winner and the garlic toast is a nice touch. Little things make this place a real winner. The ranch and fresh nachos. And the service is ex-cell-ent. So glad we found this place in our two days here.

Yelp
TLDR : Good food, quick service and wonderful ambiance Visited the Buffalo Bar while in West Yellowstone after a day at the Yellowstone. It serves as a nice joint for winding down after a busy day. When we arrived (around 7 pm) we were promptly seated and were served quickly. Loved the Bison meat balls!

Yelp
I am honestly not sure how many stars to leave The Buffalo Bar due to the fact that we were never served here. When our party of 4 sat at a table in this nearly empty bar, I asked our waitress how her day was going and if she had been busy. She said that the day had been quiet but she thought that business may pick up due to the incoming rain. She wiped down our table from the previous customers and then disappeared. The bar did slowly fill with patrons, all of whom were served drinks before our order (for drinks and food) was even taken. After 15 minutes of being ignored, we got up and left. When asked by another server why we were leaving, we explained the lack of service, during which time our server vehemently shook her head. So, now we were not only ignored, but the waitress accused us of lying. NEVER will we return. We went to Bullwinkles where we had outstanding service from Katie. Avoid The Buffalo Bar at all costs. Go to Bullwinkkes instead!

Yelp
I really like this place it's convenient. I can walk to it and normally the food is good. I did go there Sunday with two guests and we sat on the patio which was very nice and I ordered the pot roast. It came looking beautiful however I've never had so much fat and gristle in my life under that gravy, and I must admit being a cook myself what was advertised as red skinned mashed garlic potatoes was nothing more than instant potatoes or at least it sure looked and tasted like it. I know they can do better and I will still go back.

Yelp
Best place to eat at if you're at Yellowstone National Park. Food, service and vibe to the place are great! The servers there are very professional, attentive and friendly! The buffalo wings are the best wings I've had
google avatar

Randy P.

Yelp
Food is good here the Bison burger and chili were delicious. Wings are meaty and nachos were good too. Great selection of beers and a full bar. Draw back was the service. It wasn't necessary bad but our waitress was taking care of tables and the back of the bar. They had plenty of servers to wait tables and keep one person behind the bar! I definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
Anniversary Yellowstone trip and started on the West side aka the best side. Rolled into the Buffalo Bar recommended by my wife. Mrs G. was right! Great place, amazing animal mounts and even better food. I ordered up the Cowboy burger with Bison. So worth the upcharge and the fries were delicious. Bison is very underrated, if I could eat it daily I would. Also the chili is some of the best in the Mountain West! Scored a sweet short sleeve T shirt as they have swag on scene and I'll rep this place no doubt. Perfect start to a Yellowstone Park adventure. 5 stars.

Yelp
10/10 for service and food. We sat at the bar and ordered a Huckleberry Lemonade. It wasn't sweet and they used Huckleberry puree. 8/10 We ordered and split the salad and buffalo chili combo and the Bison Ribeye. The chili was a 7/10 and the salad was really good! They put French fried onions on it - never had it with that before. The Bison Ribeye was a 10/10 and the loaded mashed potatoes were the best I've ever had. They put an infused butter on the ribeye and it just puts it up there with one of the best steaks I've ever had. I highly recommend you try this restaurant!

Yelp
Lunch was delicious! Really good Fries. Brook makes the best Bloody Mary's in Montana.
google avatar

Susanna D.

Yelp
Classic American food. It was a nice meal. A better version of a Chili's or Applebees. With the limited options of West Yellowstone the place is a good option after a long day in the park.
google avatar

Krista E.

Yelp
Ambiance and service were both good, but food was lackluster for me. The fish and chips and the carne asada bowl were both enjoyed by my group, but I had the grilled steak wrap and just couldn't eat more than a quarter of it. The steak was unseasoned and tasted really fatty despite being flank steak, and the grilled onions and peppers were undercooked and crunchy. I didn't enjoy it but the steak fries were good. We also ordered the brussel chips. If they had a chipotle aioli or a hot honey drizzle, they'd be 5/5. Super crispy just missing something!
google avatar

Frankie X.

Yelp
we stopped by the buffalo spot in yellowstone for dinner and ordered the sriracha burger with buffalo (it's an extra $5 to upgrade from beef) and the pork sirloin. it was my first time trying buffalo and it was pretty good--leaner than beef but not as flavorful. honestly, not sure i'd get it again because of the extra cost. the fries with the burger were fire though! the pork sirloin was alright but kinda salty for me. the mashed potatoes were really good though. the staff was super nice, and even though they were busy, we only waited about 20 minutes after getting on the waitlist. pretty solid dinner spot overall!
google avatar

Nate W.

Yelp
Had the buffalo ribeye steak. You definitely get what you pay for. Hands down one of the best steaks I have ever eaten in my life. If you're in town this is a must stop place!
google avatar

Steve H.

Yelp
Burgers and fries - excellent. Fun pub to stop in and watch a game on the plethora of TVs.

Meghan D.

Yelp
The mountain fries were delicious. Server was friendly. We did have to wait for our food a bit after we ordered.

Yelp
We were driving all around West Yellowstone trying to come up with a place to grab some dinner and one of our boys had seen this place while we were looking around so we decided to give it a try! We all rated our meals a 10! We were seated out on a deck area that was pretty cool with live music. Our server was on top of things as well. The food did take a little while, but we were enjoying ourselves enough it didn't matter too much. I got the bison meatloaf meal, which was amazing! One of my boys got the Cowboy Burger with a regular beef patty, my mom got a fried bison steak meal, and my wife got a chicken salad. They were all great!
google avatar

Angela C.

Yelp
They charge an extra 3% Convenience Fee. They also seem to upcharge for every little thing which makes your meal super expensive for what it is. Our 2 adult, 1 two-year old meal ended up costing $80 bucks. The food was okay, the service was good but the higher prices and upcharging for every little thing made the experience unpleasant. Kids Meal is a total rip off. It's more expensive than Disney World. I was surprised at the Kids Meal. We got the chicken nuggets ... reminded me of the Chik-Fil-A nuggets but $17, didn't come with French Fries or sauce. They charge $1 for a side of sauce. I don't recommend coming here because of their prices.
google avatar

Nikita S.

Yelp
Celebrated my birthday with beers and wings. The beer, a Hazy IPA, was fantastic--tasty and perfectly buzz-inducing. Initially, the wings didn't look appetizing, but their taste proved otherwise. A reminder not to judge a book by its cover!

Nanette T.

Yelp
Ate there twice, cause it was SO GOOD! I had the BBQ Chicken Salad both times! Husband had the pork nachos and he commented they were also good. They have a great selection of beer, too. Service was outstanding and the restaurant is decorated like a western bar! I highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
We visited the Buffalo Bar during our recent visit to West Yellowstone. I had the bison (Buffalo) burger and a side garden salad. The food arrived quickly and was very delicious. Our server was also very attentive. I definitely recommend eating here if you are in the area.

Milian L.

Yelp
Food was delicious we had to go back a second time during our visit to the area. Friendly service from the girls as well. Nice outside patio seating area available and they even have a small gift shop with very reasonable prices. Would love to visit again on the next visit
google avatar

Fernando A.

Yelp
We had a good dinner here after a day of hiking and sightseeing. I had the Buffalo meatloaf, just 'cause, and it was pretty good. I think I need to remind myself that bison is a leaner meat than beef and tends to be dry. The brown gravy, bleu cheese, and scallions helped though, and it was pretty tasty overall. My wife had salmon tacos that she liked, and we both loved the deep fried brussel sprout chips. Buffalo Bar did us well and I'd recommend it to anyone costuming Yellowstone.
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
After a 35 minute wait late on a Thursday night we were seated at a small table for 5 people. We ordered drinks from the extensive menu and the huckleberry lemonade was decent. Maybe could have been a little stronger because it just tasted like lemonade. The chili was tasty (but a small portion), but the salad more than made up for it. The nachos and buff bites were also plentiful. The meatloaf was cold, but we didn't bother sending it back as we had waited so long to eat. Decent service as they were slammed. I only wish the tables were a bit larger, but overall it was a great meal.
google avatar

Rosanna B.

Yelp
Danielle was an amazing person to have at our table! Made the best recommendations for my whole family, I personally loved the Huckleberry Margarita and upgraded it to have patron silver. She recommended the cowboy burger but since I don't do Swiss cheese, I substituted for American cheese. Kids loved the grilled cheese and quesadilla and my husband had the fried Bison and he loved it! Good beer, good food, and friendly environment and service. Just come here and bring the family!
google avatar

Sylvia R.

Yelp
After a long day at Yellowstone National Park, we decide to have dinner at this place since it's just outside the park. Well, the place packed! Therefore, something must be real good in there. After looking around for a place to sit (self seating), we almost left to find somewhere else to dine, but as fate would have it, a table became available as we were passing by. I'm so glad we stayed because the food was delicious, our server was pleasant, attentive and organized, despite of the crowds. If it's busy and you have the patience to wait, it's so worth it. Stay and enjoy!
google avatar

Tuong-Chi P.

Yelp
When you are in West Yellowstones, you got to check this place out. That was how our hotel receptionist recommended, and we confirmed. We were seated promptly. The manager or owner helped his staff by taking care of our table. We got 2 Mexian Mules for our ladies and two locally brewed lager beers. I made a mistake by assuming the Steak Flatbread and the Bison Balls have small portions. They are huge, delicious though. Then we each had our entree, and could not finish these yummy meals, including Pulled Pork Sandwich, Pot Roast, Buffalo Burger Flies, and Soup & Salad Combo. Well, 6 meals for 4, but we had a great dinner after a long day in the Yellowstones park.
google avatar

Janice W.

Yelp
We've been here 3 times in the week that we have been here. The first time we tried the bison burger. It's a very large burger, my husband and I split one. But our favorite was the BBQ chicken salad. It was amazing. I preferred it without dressing. We also had great service
google avatar

Donald R.

Yelp
This looks like a classic MT rustic restaurant with many animal mounts to look down on you as you dine! It was very busy. You have to find your own seat, which was difficult. We were about to walk out when another couple left. Our server was great. She was running around trying to service all of her tables, but she did a good (and patient) job. I had a draft beer and the pulled pork sub (without the cheese). I opted for the side salad with a vinaigrette dressing, and it came with a small side of Cole slaw. I didn't care much for the slaw. The salad with dressing was a perfect accompaniment to the sandwich. The sandwich was very good. I enjoyed the Huckleberry BBQ sauce. Everyone in my group liked their meal. I would say it's a solid place for a decent meal in West Yellowstone.
google avatar

Jessie N.

Yelp
Visiting from out of town. Laid back atmosphere and a bunch of tv's for watching sports. They even changed the channel so we could watch softball. We had the Hog's Trough Nachos. Big portions on all our orders. I had the Old Faithful which is a full pot roast on a poboy. It was really good.

Bob M.

Yelp
The service was very good, especially considering that they know all their customers are people (tourista) who won't be back. They treated us like locals. The beer and drinks were great, and the hog trough nachos were to die for.
google avatar

Jordan V.

Yelp
Food itself was great, but if you don't eat there they will add a to go order charge, and if you pay with card a service charge as well (and not give you a heads up). The food portions were generous, and taste good itself for bar food. When we went in to pick up the order, the servers were friendly. Just not sure I'd personally go back here again with all the charges they added (and didn't tell us about)...

Karly B.

Yelp
We stopped into The Buffalo Bar in West Yellowstone just planning to grab a few appetizers, but I ended up ordering a burger and fries--and wow, I'm so glad I did. Everything was delicious! My husband got the buffalo balls and they were amazing too. Easily the best food we had in town during our trip. The huckleberry lemonade was super refreshing and hit the spot perfectly. Great atmosphere, great food--we'll definitely be back next time we're in the area!

Desi L.

Yelp
Food was outstanding. We had the shrimp tacos and the pork tenderloin. Both were on point. Liked the ambience as well. Special thanks to our server Ella. She was very attentive and provided outstanding customer service
