Beloved Redondo Beach Steakhouse, the Bull Pen Is a ‘Cheers’-Style Hangout | Eater LA

"A veteran family-owned restaurant and bar in Redondo Beach, opened in 1948 by Cliff Miner and still run by his descendants, this neighborhood institution feels frozen in time with an early-1980s interior—pintucked black vinyl booths, Tiffany-style lamps etched with caravel ships, wood-paneled and red brick walls, bull-themed decor, low ceilings and a mirrored back bar that give it a lived-in, 'Cheers'-like warmth. The compact, largely unchanged menu centers on charbroiled steaks and seafood with classic steakhouse sides (baked potato, garlic mashed potatoes, sautéed vegetables), tableside salads, rotating soups, and starters like hot, crisp onion rings and clam chowder packed with fresh clams and potatoes. Standouts include a longtime burger dressed with lettuce, tomato, grilled or raw onions, pickles and mayo (originally sold in very limited quantities), a Thursday–Sunday prime rib with creamy horseradish and au jus that becomes an off-menu prime rib melt with leftovers, and seasonal specials introduced quarterly; the bar pours generously, offering martinis, Manhattans and other classics. Live music—often '70s and '80s rock on Saturday nights—keeps the tiny dance floor packed, while longtime staff (including bartenders with decades of service) and a memory-driven service culture mean regulars are greeted by name and have their customizations remembered. The overall vibe is old-school and utterly welcoming: a cozy, dimly lit place where community, continuity, and ritualized comfort dining create a sense of reunion on every visit." - Jessica Chaintreuil

I enjoyed a great meal at a local gem in Redondo Beach! The burger was a highlight—juicy, perfectly cooked, and topped with fresh lettuce and a soft bun, paired with a generous serving of crispy, golden fries. The side of ketchup added the perfect touch, and the atmosphere was lively with a nice selection of wines and drinks on the table. The service was friendly, making it a solid spot for a casual dinner by the beach. Highly recommend for burger lovers!

Google
The only con was that the doorman was really rude to us. Since we are visitors here, we don’t have a United States ID, and he told us he wouldn’t let us in. We were very surprised, as we hadn’t experienced anything like that anywhere else. Thankfully, another staff member stepped in and helped us get seated. Other than that, we really enjoyed the food and the service!

Google
Had not been to dine here in a while. Frankly, it was rather disappointing. For the prices, I expect exceptional food, but it was not the case. My husband’s steak and potatoes were OK. The burger was very disappointing. Difficult to get a good bite when it is stacked too high like that. The chicken and vegetable soup was more like a zucchini soup with a bit of chicken and very flavorless broth. To end on a good note, the service was great and the sautéed mushrooms were excellent.

Google
This is an old school restaurant of the kind that used to be called a "supper club". Meat and potatoes with large, tasty sides served at big booths in a dark but friendly ambiance. The only thing missing is the salad bar. However, they do have great salads and mushrooms. There are multiple steak options, cooked exactly as ordered at reasonable prices. I have had better steaks here than when I've paid much more at trendier places.

Google
Amazing! Classic steakhouse, beautiful ambiance and the service was impeccable. Don't see this much in modern steakhouses anymore. We loved it. I would compare it to Binions Steakhouse Las Vegas. Excellent food abd steaks were perfect.

Google
A wonderful bar and steak restaurant! Have a great burger or splurge for a fantastic steak. Their steaks tend to be on the rarer side, so if you like medium rare you should order it medium. Excellent cocktails and a simple wine menu. Soups and salads are delicious, as are the onion rings and potatoes. Easy free parking. Telephone for a reservation, as it is almost always very busy. Enjoy!

Google
This is a very “old school” local strip mall steak house. I’d venture to say that most of the patrons are regulars. Start with classic martini, and a 5 piece Shrimp cocktail. The steaks are good, albeit pricy for the cut, but flavorful. The chicken/pasta and beef tournedos were possibly better options. The wine list is limited but the 1000 ml Austin Hope is the go-to move. They have entertainment most Thursday-Saturday nights! VictorB

Google
As good as it gets! One of my favorite places to frequent when I’m in the South Bay. Craft cocktails that are poured right, the salad‘s insides are to die for, and my favorite is the fillet medallions in the mushroom gravy sauce boat. if you like eclectic throwbacks in time, you must try The Bull Pen.

Yelp
What a wonderful 'old school' steak house. The steaks are delicious! The salad is also delicious. We had it with Italian dressing & our friends had blue cheese & said it's the best blue cheese around. Our server, Jay, was terrific! Was very attentive, without being overbearing. He was personable & efficient. I believe this is the BEST steak house in the village of Redondo Beach. The price is fair & the food is fresh. Some of the other steak houses in the area have substandard food & charge twice as much!! The ambiance is quiet and dark. You can tell most of the people that go there are locals & have been there many times. Everyone seems to know everyone else there & have a relationship with the bartender & servers.

Yelp
The Bull Pen is a South Bay institution; the kind of place that's been around forever and still pulls in a loyal local crowd. I only stopped in for drinks, which were fairly priced for a bar atmosphere, but you can tell this spot has history and character. When walking in we were told, "you are in for a treat" The crowd is a great mix of thirty-somethings to seventy-somethings, all out to unwind and have a good time. At one point, I spotted a woman in her mid-to-late 60s rocking a mini skirt and boots, and to her credit, she pulled it off! The vibe is friendly, and once the clock hits 9pm, the live music kicks in. On this particular Friday, TRES HOMBRES was on stage, keeping the energy up and the drinks flowing. My group didn't have dinner here (which might have bumped this review up a notch), but if you're looking for a relaxed local spot to tip a few and take in some first-class people watching, The Bull Pen fits the bill.

Yelp
Another visit to Bullpen that went very well! We had the best New York steaks tonight, everything tasted perfect. The funny bartender made us feel right at home and he mixed some excellent cocktails. Love the people that come to the establishment. Tequila selection could possibly use something new. Very nice place will be back. Thank you.

Yelp
Javier is a flawless server. His service is exemplary!!!! We came in on Sunday. And his service will have us coming back over and over again. Let's not forget the hostess who was quick, friendly, greeted us with a smile and sat us quickly. We didn't have a reservation. This was our first time at The Bull Pen. We had been wanting to come here for years and have lived in the South Bay for over 40 years and have just missed coming here all of these years. Javier's impeccable service did not go unnoticed. Very impressive. He remembered orders, made our salad (delicious by the way), and helped every table without a step. The clam chowder is one of the best here in the South Bay. We will definitely be back for that. The salad with ranch was delicious. The lemon drop .... Yum!!! Kudos to the bartender. We ordered the filet mignon medallions with mushrooms and Mac n cheese and the prime rib with veggies. I can't wait to come back and try the cheeseburger. The portions are satisfying enough. The delicious clam chowder and salad got us full. So we had a LOT of leftovers for home. Thank you for such a delightful evening. We will be back soon

Yelp
I have had a driver's license for well over 30+ years. I have driven past The Bull Pen for decades. I knew it was there. I just didn't know it was a steak house. On Sunday evening, I visited for the first time. I ordered the rib-eye steak. You have a choice of soup or salad; and the choice of one side order. My entree was $52.00; a G&T was $9.50; with tax ($6.30), my ticket was $67.80, before gratuity. The mixed green salad was nice, cool, crisp. They provide a chilled fork. (Nice touch.) They provided me with warm bread rolls. These weren't remarkable; but these were nice. The baked potato was prepared well. The steak was prepared really well. It was cooked medium rare, per request. It was well seasoned, juicy and tender. This restaurant serves prime rib. Because its available, they provide horse radish and au jus with steak orders. (That's different.) This is a nice neighborhood steakhouse. There are other proteins on the menu; but the emphasis is on beef. It seems to be patronized by regulars. It's a bit old fashioned; but that's part of the charm. It's not in-expensive; but the quality of the meat and produce is good, and a step above mass market. The table service was good, too. I recently learned The Bull Pen was a steakhouse via a social media post. I don't recall seeing a traditional advertisement for this establishment -- ever.

Yelp
Went there first the first time to see my friend's band...met some other friends for dinner...had the prime rib...was excellent and came with sides and soup/salad...my wife had medallions of beef which was delicious as well...definitely a local hangout... Good fun and live music...

Yelp
This has a typical bar atmosphere with an attentive waitress. Just near the Riviera, located in a strip mall, it's got corner bar vibes but a level up. The burger was fantastic. I give 4 stars because I came with an old timer who almost couldn't get in. He was mistaken for being too intoxicated when actually he was just old walks differently. Kudos for keeping the riffraff out though.

Yelp
This is our favorite old school steakhouse. The vibes are immaculate, service always on point, and the food never disappoints. The Bull Pen is an absolute gem in our neighborhood and we go probably way too often. We typically sit in main dining if we think ahead enough and book reservations or are just dining as a couple. Tonight we were lucky to have a few tables held for us by the kind host for six at prime dining time. Our server was Cissy who was so efficient, attentive, and friendly, it made me want to do lounge dining every time if our old backs could handle the high top stools longer. She was amazing and speedy with orders, food, drinks, everything.

Yelp
We had another nice dining experience. However, I ordered the New York steak and regretted it. The steak was incredibly tough and hard to cut, let alone chew. I didn't complain and just dealt with it. Not a big restaurant, but they make the most of their space. Water service was excellent and I always enjoy their spinning salad. Next time I'll choose another steak. It's a moderately priced restaurant, but it's content, old school and traditional American food served. I enjoy going here once every few months.

Yelp
What a place. The Bullpen lives up to the hype in everyway, whether you know nothing or it's legacy. On the outside it looks so nondescript, but inside it's alive. Go to The Bullpen you're going to love it. Best thing we ate: The Burger. It's world famous for a reason. If you're with a group, be a bunch of legends and get the burger as an appetizer (see pic). The salad is salad, BUT you do get a chilled fork which classy AF. Gotta love that it comes with each meal. I had the Prime Rib, which I gotta say wasn't stellar which is why I'm sitting on a 4 on the first visit. I will be back for a second take and I'll grab a steak. Desserts were all mediocre in all honesty but we should all be at Handels anyway. The vibes at The Bullpen are absolutely immaculate - the place is abuzz, live music comes on in the evening, and it's an overall great time. Go get it!

Yelp
I had heard over and over how great this place was. And each of my 4 stars has a reason. Star one was for the cool old school cigar lounge vibe. Star 2 was for the awesome waitress who was running the entire floor. Star 3 was because every side dish was delicious. Star 4 was how easy it was to park, walk in, and get a table. But, in my opinion, the most important star was lost. That steak just did not hit the mark. At that price I expected pretty high quality. What I got was so much fat and a what was left barely seasoned. I had to drown it in A1 to enjoy it. I hear the prime rib is better so that may be true. And maybe we came on an off night and they had a bad batch of steaks that day. I'm not sure. I may try it again....but at that price i'm not sure.

Yelp
I love old Skool Steak Houses and even though this one is at the end of the earth, I did drive from West Adams to get here. No reservations until 8:00 PM. on a Friday night, we ended up sitting at the bar. I have no problems sitting there, especially since there were two seats available at the end. Justin, our bartender/server was amazing and super nice! I mentioned, it's our first time and we eat a lot. I mean ALOT! and so we did. The clam chowder soup was delicious and I went for the steak and baked potato, the baked potato was massive, and the mac and cheese. I didn't finish any of it. The Cosmo and Lemon Drop from Justin brought me back to my 90's era. My friend still had room for the bread pudding, a must with a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream. Unless we are going to be on that side of town, it's going to be awhile for us to be back. Everyone was very nice and we even made a friend from a local sitting at the bar. They have live music too, which we were too full and tired to drive back to stay for. Next time....

Yelp
We had a great experience here. The place has a classic, old-school feel in the best way: warm, comfortable, and not trying too hard. The crowd was mostly older, which I actually loved because it was lively without being noisy or chaotic, and not full of kids running around. It didn't feel "stodgy" at all, just relaxed and pleasant. The staff was friendly and our server, Francisco, was excellent, attentive, easygoing, and helpful with recommendations. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip to start, and it was huge, creamy, and really good. The clam chowder had that traditional, comforting flavor you hope for. For dinner, my wife got the prime rib and I had the filet mignon, and we ended up sharing both. They were cooked perfectly and came with great sides. Very satisfying meal overall. We really enjoyed our night here and will definitely be back.

Yelp
The service was bad, drinks were bad, and the food was mediocre. I knew it was going to be bad from the start when the bartender recommended an old fashioned and then proceeded to add soda water or sprite from the soda fountain gun to the drinks. Steak was not cooked as requested and all of the food was just okay at best. It wasn't really cheaper than any of the other steakhouses either in Redondo Beach or the other beach cities, so I'm not sure why you would go here. There were only a handful of wines to choose from also. We struggled to get any of the staff to pay attention to us. This seems like the kind of place that regulars have been going to for decades, and they don't care about the quality. They just want "the usual." If you are uninterested in overpaying for bad service, bad drinks, and mediocre food, I would not recommend this place.

Yelp
8-18-25 is our 7 year wedding anniversary, and where better to spend it at than The Bull Pen!? Both Jackie my wife and myself call to make the same reservation, hilarious! Cissy, our gracious host was friendly as they come. A nice ride around the coast for us, Monday traffic from San Pedro was not bad at all! Upon arrival we are greeted by Cissy, what a treat to meet in person! The vibe in this classic restaurant is as chill as it comes. I don't know if we chose the perfect time to arrive, but the place was mellow, not too busy and looked/sounded like the crowd there were regular locals. Being that it was our Anniversary, we were splurging.... lol! All that means is that we ordered an appetizer, and the went with the Spinach Artichoke Dip. In my opinion, fresh chips, you can't go wrong! Creaminess, cheesy and plenty of artichoke, is the recipe for a good appetizer! We loved it! Our server Jae was totally on it! I ordered the Ribeye, with Baked potato and vegetable beef soup.., oh my goodness, the soup reminded of pot roast soup. Hearty chunks of beef, broth was amazing and the veggies were the perfect softness! The Wife ordered steak bits with mushrooms, baked potato and blue cheese salad. Her meal looked awesome! My ribeye was at a perfect medium, all the fixings on my potato! Cissy and Jae took care of us the whole time! Such an amazing time celebrating our anniversary, this was both of our first time here. Thank You everyone at the Bull Pen! We shall return and I'm looking forward to trying that burger! I hear good things about it! Chris and Jackie!

Yelp
We came here to celebrate National Prime Rib Day, and it was absolutely unforgettable. From start to finish, everything was top notch. First off, Cissy took such amazing care of us -- she made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in, with a warm, genuine energy that's so rare these days. She was attentive without being overbearing, super knowledgeable about the menu, and made great recommendations. She honestly made the whole night even better. Now, the food...wow. The prime rib was out of this world -- tender, juicy, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. Every bite melted in your mouth. The sides were just as impressive, and everything came out hot and fresh. And do NOT skip dessert -- the bread pudding was to die for! Rich, decadent, and the perfect sweet ending to an incredible meal. The atmosphere was cozy, old-school in the best way, and made for the perfect setting to enjoy a fantastic meal. We're already planning our next visit. Thank you, Bull Pen (and huge shoutout to the fabulously-dressed Cissy!) for an incredible evening!

Yelp
old school sit-down restaurant with the ambiance to match - the host and servers are so knowledgeable about the history of the restaurant and love what they bring to the community. i love that the salads are tossed in front of you and served on a chilled bowl. we had the steak with cowboy butter with a baked potato that was STELLAR. probably one of my fave spots in the south bay!
google avatar

Yelp
Service was bad. We had a reservation and had to wait 45 minutes. We really sat down at a small table in the middle of the room. There were 4of us. We asked if we could seat in a booth and the host said no. After another 40 minutes they took our orders. People came in after us sat in the booths eat and left. We finally got our orders my husband ordered prim rib and had to send it back because it was over cooked. When he got the new one it too was overcooked. But he didn't want to tell them again because he thinks that the whole prime rib was overcooked. Someone else that we were with ordered liver and onions. It was rock hard. She sent it back and didn't eat. Over $300.00 sent there for a terrible meal.

Yelp
I'm surprised I didn't do a Yelp on this place??!! The hubby was working out here & I came to stay for the week & his dude workers said to try this place out & of course did my research & yep! We came for dinner & got seated pretty fast (luckily) then our waitress was so nice & informational. The salads were not disappointing. I got the Salmon & he got the 12oz New York Steak & fully loaded backed potatoes..again NOT DISAPPOINTED!!! Sooo delicious!!! It is dim & relaxing I think they have a dining room but we was in the bar area but from other awesome yelpers there is. Totally recommend this place & can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This South Bay staple has been a favorite for years and for good reason. It has that classic old school charm and Goodfellas vibe that make it perfect for a date night or a great steakhouse experience. The service is top notch, the food is incredible, and the martinis are easily the best in town!

John Walter P.

Yelp
This was next level restauranting right here. The prime rib dinner was excellent . The service was excellent. The atmosphere was excellent. Tip: make sure you have a reservation like we did.

Yelp
Mom's Birthday Bash--A Vibe with a Side of Meh Service showed up on time like a well-trained butler--efficient, polite, and completely forgettable. But honestly? Who needs charm when you've got prime people-watching, a soundtrack that slaps, and an atmosphere that does the heavy lifting. The food? Think greatest hits album--not exciting, but reliably familiar. And when I said, "Yes, I'd like the beers please," they nailed that part. Priorities, right?
google avatar

Nicole W.

Yelp
This review is for the burger! The burger here is my favorite, they really hit a home run with their burger. The steaks are decent. But, I've had better elsewhere. Salad and bread that come with the meal are decent, nothing you are dreaming about later. Drinks are solid, nothing fancy, kinda the vibe here. Everything is done well, in a casual way. You should definitely order the burger.

Chris Dearing ..

Yelp
We went to the Bull Pen for the first time on Saturday. Didn't know what to expect and what I can say is that we F ing loved it. Classic steak house. The prime rib was spot on. The baked potato.....the best I've ever had. Our server Cissy was fantastic and made us feel like we've always been coming there. She helped us take care of an older couples bill who were celebrating a big anniversary. She did it in a way that they had no idea who did it. Not only did we have great food, great service but we had a great time! Thanks Cissy!
google avatar

Kylie N.

Yelp
CISSY - THE QUEEN OF THE BULL PEN! We can't say enough good things about her. She ALWAYS gets our order 100% right--every time. Cissy is so thoughtful, she even puts our names on the bags and makes sure everything is organized and ready to go. She makes grabbing takeout feel effortless--even with our big, detailed orders! We seriously come back because of HER. Cissy, you're the best--thank you for making every Bull Pen run smooth, easy, and full of good vibes. We LOVE a good Bull Pen burger at home... and we LOVE Cissy even more!
google avatar

Tina W.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best steakhouse experiences I've ever had! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by a beautiful blonde lady at the front--friendly, professional, and made us feel instantly welcome. Big shoutout to her for starting our night off right! Our server, Javier, was equally amazing--attentive, knowledgeable, and had great recommendations. He made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. He definitely deserves a promotion or part ownership! The food? Absolutely outstanding. The steak was cooked to perfection--tender, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The sides were delicious, and the whole meal was beautifully paced. You can tell this place takes pride in what they do. Atmosphere was cozy but upscale, perfect for a date night or special occasion. Between the amazing service and incredible food, Bull Pen Steakhouse is a must-visit. Thank you to the lovely hostess and to Javier--you both made our night unforgettable!

Yelp
A great place to eat. Great beef options and fish is also available. The ambiance is great and all the staff are friendly and welcoming.

Diane I.

Yelp
Wow! The entire staff, from hostess (Cissy) to bartender (best long island tea!) to server (Cissy again!!) to cooks...such a wonderful experience EVERY time we go in! Cissy could be running around with her head cut off but still takes the time to stop, calmly take orders and share personal stories without making customers feel rushed. A true professional! Can't wait to go back for another hamburger... The best in town!
google avatar

Yelp
Ok. Let me tell you, this place is the top steakhouse in the South Bay. There are several other good ones. But none compares to The Bullpen. The environment and service (especially Ricardo) just begins the journey. From there we enter a world of extremely delicious decadence. I recommend the 15oz Ribeye (MR), my fiancé suggests the filet mignon (MR) "Babe!!! you have to add the sautéed mushrooms!!!". The crescendo comes with the glass of Pinot and desert at the end. What an experience. Wish I could give 6 stars. Ask For Ricardo! P.S. Josh & Chris rock too!

Yelp
So, the decor is the strength of The Bull Pen. It's a time capsule back to a different era. I thought the service was quite good, not exceptionally friendly but the waiter was excellent and took care of business. I guess blending into the background works and some may prefer it. The food was good, my steak wasn't anything special (I ordered a 12oz NY Strip and it was okay, I can do it better at home.) I liked the sides well enough, not bad but for the price I paid, the sides shouldn't be better than the main. I had fries and a salad - both good. My wife ordered better - Tournedos 8oz, twin filet mignons with bearnaise sauce. I swear it was more meat than my 12oz NY, cooked better, presented better and it tasted better. She also ordered the mac'n cheese side - delicious! In all, I liked the place and enjoyed my meal but felt for the price I paid, I won't run back. Maybe next time do a lunch and try the patty melt or burger? To recap, I LOVED the decor - DO NOT remodel! It's a fun place, service is professional and good. Food is enjoyable, I can tell effort is put into delivering a nice dining experience. A solid 4 stars for me - I'll return. Side note, the music after dinner was an experience! The band wasn't great, but they tried. Loved the crowd, I'll leave it alone as not to come off as... (not my vibe and not factored into my review.)
google avatar

Yelp
What can I say? Me and the fam have been coming here 30+ years at minimum. The food is always in point, the service is always stellar, and the ambiance is undeniably classic old school that is low lighting and one if the last classics in the area. I always get the sautéed mushrooms and Cajun Filet Mignon. Nothing here is bad--and I mean nothing! If you haven't been here--GO!!! It's a gem that I don't even like telling people about bc it's a hidden fam tradition that typically the older crowd hangs at
google avatar

Yelp
The Bull Pen is a south bay classic! It's been here forever and is an old school steakhouse. Food is great, prices are very reasonable, and the service is terrific. Great place for a nightcap too.

Yelp
Ended up trying this place randomly because the Rock & Brews across the street had a long wait... It's located in a small strip mall and the place looks pretty unassuming from the outside but the inside was cozy and really well decorated for Christmas. It seems like a reservation place because the host told us we could sit and eat anywhere at the bar area or get a table but we would need to give it up in an hour for a reservation. We opted for the regular seating which seemed more comfortable. Overall, food was pretty good and we especially liked how they served the salad table side with beets. This place is worth trying if u want some wholesome American meal with festive ambiance.

Yelp
Jack made it to a point of listening to my point of view about my reservation 2 weeks ago. Thank you Jack-:) Great food and great ambiance. Thank you Jack & may you ALL have a wonderful 2025 prosperous great year! Kindly yours, Mildred R.

Yelp
A classic throwback to the 70's while it sits in the center of a strip mall don't let it exterior fool you . Behind the bottle glass windows is a gem. The green booths and darkened interior table cloths and candles make this a place you might take a date or associate you want to impress . Yet it is open to the bar that is far from stuffy. Steaks are the star of the show. You can order a variety of toppings to enhance the flavors we opted fto try it with out. Not disappointed. A choice of soup or salad was offered . We were asked if we wanted the sliced beats on the salad . I gave it a try admittedly with some misgivings I either love or hate beats done well they are delicious as was the case here. (Other places have served canned that were not pleasant) the yeast rolls were unremarkable but fresh. As to sides the hand made onion rings were delicious. The green beans were definitely fresh. Service was attentive without being intrusive. All in all an enjoyable experience.

Yelp
I haven't been here in years. When I came back I was served by Cissy, who dresses like a badass chick! She was so observant and kind. Welcoming and warm. Food was served beautifully and tasty! Needed a late night filling bite, and this is the place. Live music and the vibe was a great ambience.

Yelp
Rude bartender, tiny, awful tasting drinks for double the price. The most bland selection of bottled beer on the planet for people with no palette or taste. It's simply uncivilized. Won't be back. But thanks for being a jackass the moment I walked in, pal.

Yelp
Went to The Bull Pen tonight for a well needed date night, and had such a really great evening! We did not have a reservation however, Cissy got us right in with an amazing table and set us up for a romantic night. Lisa our server let us know about the Short Rib special which I will say might be THE BEST short rib I have ever had! Seriously! Lisa and Ernie took care of us from start to finish (and my need for extra bread, sauces and champagne!). I only wish we had room for the delicious dessert... but we did take 1 home! As always The Bull Pen is always on point!

Yelp
Outstanding. I heard about The Bull Pen from TikTok when I was forming my itinerary for my trip to redondo beach. On first glance it's not super modern.. which is one of the things that drew me in. There was a live band That played hits throughout the duration of our meal. It's a desirable mix of elegant and dive bar esque. The prime rib is TO DIE FOR. It was juicy and flavorful. The au jus paired with it perfectly and complimented the flavor. The macaroni and cheese was yummy and came with a plentiful helping. I will dream of this meal forever. I loved every moment I spent here. Truly a wonderful date spot or just a casual get together destination.

Yelp
So I've been wanting to try this place because it reminded me of another joint down the way. I walked in and was happy to see white table clothes and black leather booths and chairs. Knowing what I wanted to eat, I stuck with the ribeye that was cooked perfectly. The baked potato was a great size so I was happy with that because the place down the way is random sizes. The salad was good but I wish I'd had the thousand island because the cracked pepper would have been incredible with it. My girlfriend had the shrimp with rice pilaf and she loved it better than the place down the way. The bread was no where close than the place down the way's. I'm a huge fan of creme brûlée so if you're not a massive snob, I'll just say that this one is good for the average man. We didn't try any apps but with the photos shown, we left the Bull Pen not quite full but satisfied.

Yelp
As good as it gets! One of my favorite places to frequent when I'm in the South Bay. Craft cocktails that are poured right, the salad's insides are to die for, and my favorite is the fillet medallions in the mushroom gravy sauce boat. if you like eclectic throwbacks in time, you must try The Bull Pen.

Yelp
The best crew in SouthBay with amazing vibes! Josh the manager knows he has a tribe that sets the bar high! Food and drinks are served w a smile. First time I came I met the warm welcome of hostess and server, Cissy. Bartenders I've met like Jack and Leslie make the best cocktails to order! No matter how crowded the place is, due to the amazing live music they bring in to entertain...you're always surrounded by fun dancing and awesome dining in the back. I've been back so much I feel like family GO Dodgers!! Watching it here right now!!

Yelp
The best thing was the waitress. She remembered everything and went out of our way to accommodate what we wanted or needed. However, we didn't know we needed a reservation so they sat all 8 of us at 2 tables. We spent over $300 in food (steaks) and drinks and when the band came on we were asked to give up one of our tables so new people coming in who were just drinking could have a table. That was just wrong in so many ways. We felt very disrespected and unappreciated. This place cares more about bringing money in. We won't go back. There are plenty of other places that treat you like they want you to be there.

Yelp
A great blast from the past with service that matches old school expectations. All the food was amazing and the steak was perfectly cooked. No need to ask for something more rare than preferred, expecting it to be overcooked because they cook the meat exactly as it's supposed to be.

Yelp
We love the Bull Pen! My husband and I have been regular patrons for over 25 years, and it keeps getting better. The restaurant has been in the same family for 3 generations. Ambience is like the good old steak houses of the 50's and 60's - black leather booths, low lighting and an active bar. Great music on theweekends. Great steak, martinis and salads. Lots of other choices including fish and chicken. Most of the staff has been there longer than we've been going there and feel like old friends. The fact that they've been there so long says a lot about the management. A few new staff members are also wonderful; they are held to the same high standards. Highly recommend this place for any occasion.

Yelp
Came in on a whim for lunch in the middle of the day on a Thursday. We sat at a high top and were immediately greeted by a very sweet bartender who took our order. We knew we wanted to try their famous burgers. My husband ordered the Bull Pen burger with American cheese and I ordered the BBQ Bacon Burger with cheddar cheese. Had no idea what to expect as it was our first time at the Bull Pen. The food came out and we knew we made the right choice by trying this place out! My burger was thick and juicy and the onion rings I upgraded to looked amazing. We split the burgers in half as recommended by our server/bartender and as soon as I saw the cross section of the burger I KNEW it was going to be bomb. Our server offered to bring me ranch as well which I am so glad he did because their ranch is DELISH. The burger was one of the best burgers I've EVER eaten and trust me... I've eaten a lot of burgers in my life lol. Sooooo juicy, thick and the quality of meat was excellent. The onion rings were super crunchy and huge and went very well with the side of ranch. I also reeeeeally liked the fries. Skinny fries that are extra crispy, yum!! I only wish I was able to take a better photo of the burger but hey, I was hungry! At the end of our meal, Rodney introduced himself to us and told us this place has been around 75 years!! Amazing. I can see why! Very nice employees here and a charming atmosphere. We will definitely be back! I saw someone drinking a martini and it looked sooooo good as well! Glad to have tried a great spot in Redondo Beach
