The Best 9 Hostels in Amsterdam (Updated 2025)

"I found the lack of a common area a downside for socializing, but the on-site pub serves cheap, filling food and drinks which helps the vibe. Dorm rooms are spacious and modern with private showers/bathrooms, though the beds are basic metal bunks without privacy curtains (the mattresses are decent). Located in the heart of the Red Light District, it can get wild on weekends but is still one of the city's notable hostels." - Matthew Kepnes

I had a great stay at The Bulldog Hotel! From the moment I arrived, the staff were super friendly and welcoming and let us check in early, which really set the tone for the whole trip. My private single room was spotless, with a very clean bathroom and lovely fresh towels provided the next day. The bed was so comfy and I usually struggle to sleep well in hotels, so that really stood out to me.||The bar downstairs has a great selection of drinks and snacks, and it was a huge bonus being able to enjoy some herb right there in the hotel bar. The attached coffee shop/dispensary is also really convenient as well. One of my favourite features was the private roof terrace for residents only, it’s a nice chilled out space that closes around 11pm, which is great for keeping things peaceful for everyone.||The location couldn’t be better right in the heart of the Red Light District, close to everything with loads to do all around. There was a DJ in the bar in the evening, and I was a bit worried it might be noisy upstairs, but once I got in the lift and headed to my room, it was absolutely silent. Honestly, such a pleasant surprise!||If I had to mention one tiny downside, it’s that my private room didn’t have a fridge not a big deal at all, but worth noting if that’s something you like to have. Definitely not a deal-breaker though.||All in all, a really comfortable, fun, and relaxed stay. I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in Amsterdam!

Great location and staff were fantastic (big thanks to the girl on reception, sorry didn’t catch your name!). The whole place looks great after a recent refurbishment. Room was clean and fresh with aircon and a safe. Could maybe do with a bit more soundproofing tho! Also, finding the slot to put your room card in to activate room electricity can be a challenge when it’s dark! Have your phone light handy! Hotel lounge bar is great to chill before and after a day out. Good breakfast too. See you next time!

Me, my husband, and 2 friends stayed here for the celebration of my 50th birthday. We was welcomed by Robert who checked us in. He was so welcoming warm and friendly, like we'd known him for years. Our rooms were clean and basic. The Bulldog this year are celebrating THEIR 50 year anniversary quite fitting for me I would definitely recommend and stay again

This is easily the best hostel I’ve stayed in. Staff are always friendly and helpful. The shared bunk rooms are well constructed so there is little disturbance. Lockers are large with plenty of space and the location is great, so central and easy to get to. Don’t forget the check out the rooftop for a great view of crazy jacks bell tower!

Amazing stay at the bulldog. Stayed in a twin room. The room was immaculate, everything you need (shower wash/ towels). The lovely lady was super welcoming & let us check in early. Definitely be staying again! The lounge bar was fab too, nice vibe..loved the rooftop terrace. Bargain hotel for the price!

I would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Amsterdam. The location by the canal is absolutely perfect, with all major tourist attractions in walking distance, and the rooms are such high quality. The facilities provided by the hotel were also amazing, with pool tables and a rooftop terrace.

One of the best hostels I’ve stayed at in Amsterdam. Perfect central location, comfy renovated dorms with high-quality mattresses, and a great rooftop to relax on. Each floor has its own color theme which adds a fun vibe. Only downsides: no full kitchen and no standard power outlets by the beds (just USB/USB-C). Still, a top choice for comfort and location!

Walked in and the guys on reception were friendly, smiling and very welcoming, within 2 minutes we spoke about Star Wars and we knew we had a good hotel. The beds and the pillows are the most comfortable I’ve ever slept on and plenty of space in the room. The location is great to go to any part of the city. Can’t recommend enough.
