I stayed here for one night with my dog, having booked a dog-friendly room in advance. As a university student travelling alone, I’d saved up to take my dog away for a little half-term break, so I was really looking forward to a relaxing stay. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing and definitely not the 5-star experience I expected.
When I went down for my dinner reservation, a member of staff came over and said, “We didn’t know you had a dog.” I explained that I had booked for a dog, but she told me that I was in a room meant for people with allergies and that other staff might keep coming over to ask about it. This made me feel really uncomfortable — as if I’d done something wrong — so I ended up leaving instead of staying for dinner. I didn’t want to spend £55 on two courses (without sides or drinks) and have the evening spoiled by staff questioning me.
The room itself was nice enough, but certainly not 5-star quality. The bath panel was coming away from the side, which gave a poor impression. Overall, while the room was fine, the staff’s attitude and handling of the situation completely ruined what should have been a special little getaway.
It’s such a shame — I’d been really excited for this trip, but left feeling upset and unwelcome. I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone travelling with a dog or expecting genuine 5-star service.
