The Bulls Head

"The full car park of this village inn says it all. It's gained a strong following thanks to being gastronomically adventurous and having a passionate team who make a real effort to welcome their guests; custom menus with your name on is a particularly nice touch. The kitchen show great ambition within the pub surroundings, with a tasting menu available alongside the à la carte. The chefs show great skill in spotlighting their quality produce, like super-fresh wild seabass cooked to perfection with a delicious crispy skin. Well-appointed bedrooms complete the appealing overall package." - Michelin Inspector

We visited for a the tasting menu dinner on a Saturday in July and had a fantastic experience! The food was incredible, creative, and balanced super well. It was truly a memorable dinner in every good way! The staff were professional, and we got to chat with the chef and servers when they had time - they were happy to share more about their food and skills! The front room and dining room were both cozy, spacious, and seemed perfectly appointed for area in England. When my international card had an issue, they were beyond helpful in sorting it out. I would definitely go back, and would recommend to others who want a laid-back but delicious tasting menu experience. Thank you again!

The best food I’ve eaten in Derbyshire. Definitely Michelin standard. Ham and eggs was the standout dish. A few more non alcoholic drink options for the non drinkers would have been nice. Reasonable prices

This was a surprise night away, what a fantastic place. Nice welcoming area, plenty of room for drinks.|9 course tasting menu was included in the price which was amazing. So much detail and descriptions of each dish with accompanying wines.|Great service.|The room was very impressive - had a massive roll top copper bath / great big room and bathroom with the softest towels I’ve ever had!|Great coffee in the room.|Amazing breakfast made with great flavoursome food.||Very impressive the gluten free was not an issue.||Top this all off with the owner/manager serving some of the dishes and taking time to chat.||We look forward to going back soon.

Google isn't offering a star rating for food or atmosphere, probably 5* for food but 2* for atmosphere where we were sitting (tbf it was 5pm, so not peak time). The Bulls Head presents as a Pub/Restaurant but really fails on the "pub" element, with no traditional bar area and the seating tucked away out of sight (and out of mind maybe..). I need to book in for the restaurant experience to give a better overview, watch this space....

We stayed for one night and enjoyed the signature tasting menu and accompanying wine flight. Every single thing about the rooms, the food, the drinks, the service, the staff, the sommelier, the wine, and the ambience was absolutely incredible. Perfectly balanced in all regards. We have dined at many Michelin Starred restaurants in the UK and abroad up to 3* and honestly the food that Chef Patron Mark Aisthorpe and team served last night was the best that we have ever eaten. We will definitely be back. How this place does not have a Star is beyond me - it should have, but even if it does not get one, you do not want to miss out on eating and staying here. I promise you that you will absolutely love it!

Amazing lunch, the food is superb and the service outstanding. We will certainly return, every course of the tasting menu was fantastic. In fact the biggest debate of the day was which course was the best and we certainly couldn’t pick just one. A truly memorable meal.

We booked this as a short pre Christmas friends meet up. Dinner from the a la carte menu exceeded all our expectations- but the best meal out I have had for a long time. The rooms were more than comfortable and we were made to feel welcome and looked after by all the staff. We will certainly return!

I stayed here for one night with my dog, having booked a dog-friendly room in advance. As a university student travelling alone, I’d saved up to take my dog away for a little half-term break, so I was really looking forward to a relaxing stay. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing and definitely not the 5-star experience I expected. When I went down for my dinner reservation, a member of staff came over and said, “We didn’t know you had a dog.” I explained that I had booked for a dog, but she told me that I was in a room meant for people with allergies and that other staff might keep coming over to ask about it. This made me feel really uncomfortable — as if I’d done something wrong — so I ended up leaving instead of staying for dinner. I didn’t want to spend £55 on two courses (without sides or drinks) and have the evening spoiled by staff questioning me. The room itself was nice enough, but certainly not 5-star quality. The bath panel was coming away from the side, which gave a poor impression. Overall, while the room was fine, the staff’s attitude and handling of the situation completely ruined what should have been a special little getaway. It’s such a shame — I’d been really excited for this trip, but left feeling upset and unwelcome. I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone travelling with a dog or expecting genuine 5-star service.
