After exiting the Virginia Beach Boardwalk Lights on foot, we stumbled upon The Bunker Brewpub, a Veteran-owned restaurant. It was one of the few restaurants opened during off season (November 1st to March 31st)! It was nice that during off season, they offered free public parking to their customers. We were sad that they discontinued happy hour deals but were glad they had daily specials. On Monday's, they have a burger, fries, and flight deal for $20. On Wednesday's, they have a specialty loaded fries and a beer for $15. On Thursday's, it's a mug night, where you can purchase a Bunker Mug for $10 and bring it back every Thursday for $3.50 refill of your favorite beer. On Friday's, they have an appetizer and a beer for $15.
Our server Gabby L. was hospitable and attentive, ensuring we were well-fed and not thirsty. I enjoyed the Blue Toad Ginger Gold Peach Cider, which was light, crisp, sweet, and peachy. My boyfriend took advantage of the burger, fries, and flight deal for $20. He enjoyed the Figgin' Delicious burger, waffle fries, and a flight of Snake Eater American Hazy IPA, Gummy Neutron: Gummy Bear Infused IPA, Mozzie Juice: NE Hazy IPA, and The Revolting Blob: Sour Ale (Pomegranate). The Figgin Delicious consisted of a beef patty, fig jam, arugula, candied bacon, goat cheese, and honey drizzle on a toasted bun. His only complaint was the waffle fries were served at room temperature and were cold within minutes. Among the four tasters, he enjoyed the Snake Eater American Hazy IPA and Mozzie Juice NE Hazy IPA and decided to get a full pour of Snake Eater American Hazy IPA.
In addition to his burger, we shared a Crab Dip, Drunken Mussels, and Crispy Oysters. The Crab Dip consisted of cream cheese blended with crab seasonings and blue crab. It was served with crispy blue corn tortilla chips. The Drunken Mussels consisted of mussels cooked with tomato, garlic, onion and bunker beer. It was served with charred sourdough bread. I didn't enjoy dipping the charred sourdough bread into the sauce. I would have preferred toast points. The sauce tasted bitter to me. The Crispy Oysters consisted of cajun/creole seasoning cornmeal fried oysters. It was served with pickle chips and Alabama white BBQ sauce. They were alright.
