How My Family Fell in Love With Ireland’s Grand Hotels, Falconry, and the World’s Best Bread and Butter

"A homey complex of cottages in the Burren that doubles as a maker of naturally scented soaps and lotions (products carry evocative names like Atlantic Coast and Lost Garden) and a sunny spot for a simple, exemplary meal. The tearooms focus on local smoked mackerel landed by nearby fishermen and are complemented by sweet brown soda bread with Irish butter, regional cheeses, pickles and rhubarb salad, producing one of the trip’s most satisfying, unfussy meals." - Peter Terzian Peter Terzian Peter Terzian is the features editor of Travel + Leisure, where he has been on staff since 2017. We come here every time we come to Ireland. A beautiful place with great tea and cake and some great soaps and perfumes. Herb garden is very nice. Love to just walk around here.

Google
Beautiful place to rest and enjoy the garden/tea house. Food is very nice! The perfumery is definitely worth a visit as well - you might find some local & handmade products for yourself or as a present. Prices are reasonable for what is offered. If you take your time it definitely is an experience! Can recommend.

Google
A delightful highlight of my first trip to Ireland! There’s plenty of parking, and they offer tours twice a day as well as occasional workshops, so be sure to check their website before visiting. The tour was informative, fun, and fascinating—it gave me a deeper appreciation for both the perfume-making process and the Burren itself. Everything is made by hand with minimal modern machinery, which really adds to the charm. Strolling through the gardens was lovely, and I highly recommend stopping by the café for tea and a treat—all the food is locally sourced and delicious. Bonus: They shipped the perfume I purchased directly to my home in the States, which made traveling even easier!

Google
What a fun place to visit and learn more about making soap, candles, and perfume. They have free tours, check for times on their website but when I visited, it was at 11:30, 1:00 and 2:30. They also did a perfume demonstration at 3:30. The Tea room is a lovely place to have lunch, a snack, or afternoon tea. There are pretty gardens as well.

Very nice place to stop before going on a long trip, pastry’s were tasty and very unique, be careful driving here because the roads are crazy narrow.

Google
A beautiful but narrow road leads to this place. There are many parking spaces on the territory. Beautiful garden and view. We ate a pie with almonds and the second one with pistachios and rose. The pies were delicious, the coffee was also not bad. In fact, this is an interesting place for those who love green tea, homemade soap and perfumes.

We had some time between our arrival at Shannon airport and when we were scheduled for the Cliffs of Moher. The perfumery was recommended as a wonderful stop and we couldn’t agree more. We ate lunch in the tea room - fresh, housemade tomato soup with pesto, hearty brown bread - and the most beautiful, delicious assortment of cakes and cookies! The scents in the perfumery itself were lovely, varied and complex. We bought multiple boxes to take home as truly unique souvenirs. A special thanks to Ralph, the owner, who took time to share in conversation and to his friendly staff, who made our visit such a pleasure.

Beautiful space. Glad we could make it to the perfumery. They have a bakery and a garden as well.

Yelp
This place is absolutely a hidden gem. There are amazing views all the way through the Burren and countryside to get here. It's a small, very classy retail shop with an adorable tea shop in an adjacent building. I did not do the perfume making tour. The garden is stunning and smells amazing. Just a great surprise in a secluded and very serene place. The orange cake was delicious!

Yelp
This is a super cute place and off the beaten path. I found out about it from a co-worker. We came here for lunch with our toddlers and they have a great tea room that serves good lunch food, desserts and teas. And there is outdoor and indoor seating. The food was tasty and the menu was decent. Be sure to walk around their grounds since there's a lovely garden. And I also purchased lotion from their store. I thought it would be less touristy since I felt like we were driving to the middle of no where but when we arrived it was pretty packed. People had arrived in tour vans. Overall a great experience and the perfect place to stop on your way to Cliffs of Mohr if exploring Ireland.

Yelp
Visited here in 2022 when we were in Ireland, bought some perfume, are some lunch. Staff was fantastic, flash forward to Dec 2024... Wife was out of perfume wanted more, ordered online, shipped for €10, (economy) arrived west coast of US in 5 days. So if you can't visit in person their online ordering is the next best thing. Highest Recommendation

Yelp
Years ago I visited the perfumery with my parents and fell in love, and I've been ordering their products all the way to the US ever since! At first it was just Winter Woods perfume and the mint and fennel candle as my Christmas gift each year, but I just received an order of the Winter Woods and Wood Land lotions and Grass Land soap, and these new-to-me scents are absolutely incredible! The customer service is amazing, and I just absolutely love supporting this amazing company.

Yelp
The Burren Perfumery started in the 70s as a literal cottage industry and has since evolved and been sold to a new owner. Some of the original fragrances remain, though! Although they no longer use flowers found in the local area as it's protected it sounds like they source from Ireland and use organic whenever possible. They have four fragrances for each of Ireland's seasons, and they perfectly capture the smells and feeling of the seasons. I went in early March so it wasn't peak tourist season and a lot of stuff wasn't out for sampling, but I am curious about the serums! The cafe has coffee, tea, and carrot cake muffins to give you a little boost before you head out! It's well worth the drive down the small local road and past some gorgeous scenery to check this place out.

Yelp
As we were driving the area, we kept seeing signs to this place. Curious, we decided to check it out. What you will find is a quaint little array of small cottages: a tea cafe, a sales room/workshop and another crafting cottage. You'll also be able to walk through their lovely garden with various plants and flowers. They offer perfumes (My favorite is Frond) and skin care items such as lotions, soaps and facial remedies. They appears to have a demonstration/tour type of thing in the adjacent building, but it was later in the day, and we had places to go. Walked out of here spending a couple hundred dollars but sooo worth it. Enjoyed a small pot of hot tea in the outdoor seating area as well. Very relaxing and enjoyable.

Yelp
Honestly, the whole reason I thought of coming to the Burren on our trip to Ireland was because I saw photos and reviews of this place. It's a perfect little wonderland in the middle of this karst landscape. Ridiculously pretty to walk around the garden. We ended up with a bag full of lotions, soaps, perfumes and such from the shop, and had "lunch" at the cafe. Lunch was really just a bunch of cheese and carrot cake, ha ha, which was great after a strenuous Burren hike. One of my favorite parts of our trip.

Yelp
Lovely place for teatime. The herb garden is cleverly designed and executed. The stone buildings are crowned in roses, and the merchandise is lovely. Popular on weekends in the summer, so go during the week if you can.

Yelp
This is a neat little perfumery located in a very rural setting. You need to drive about two miles down a narrow road to get there. Once you arrive, there are a lot of things to do. You can shop for perfume, watch them make perfume, tour the gardens, or stop by the tea room. We did all of the above. Their perfumes really smell great. They use ingredients found locally, so you get a very special perfume to remind you of your visit to Ireland. The tea room makes some of the best carrot cake we have had in Ireland. We order that with tea every time we visit. The woman running the tea room told us they run through four or more carrot cakes on a busy day. Overall, we are glad we stopped by.

Yelp
Visited here on a lovely sunny afternoon for a small bite to eat. The tea room was beautifully decorated and full of character with all kinds of drawings from children and plenty of mini games to keep them occupied. The staff here were incredibly lovely and I was served by a girl named Saoirse who was a delight and couldn't have been any nicer! We got the soup which was super tasty and fresh and then finished with coffee and a brownie which were also both delicious. I will definitely be back here again to try more of their cakes as there was such a variety it was hard to choose! Lana (the dog) was also very cute and humble.

Yelp
The café at the Burren Perfumery serves up simple fresh fare that is presented elegantly- the menu is small and focuses on locally sourced ingredients, and the dining area is cutesy and welcoming. The salads and bread we had were delicious and wholesome - light and nutritious but substantial, while the cheese board showcased local cheeses and was delicious to boot. The hot drinks and cakes were also lovely, the tea especially went down a treat for the tea-drinkers in our party as it was loose-leaf and organic. My own Green and Black's hot chocolate was one of the best I've had- not too sweet, it reminded me of the hot cocoas of my youth - bittersweet and warming. It's a lovely place to stop by if you find yourself in the dramatic surroundings of the Burren, it has a beautiful little garden to take a stroll through afterwards and the Perfumery itself is a wonderful shop that looks like an old-style apothecary with all its glass jars lined up on the shelves of the area where they make the products. They sell fragrances, creams and soaps made from the unique plants found here and also show a video that highlights the distinctive flora and fauna of the region.

Yelp
Our friends took us on a tour of their neck of the woods in Ireland...Clare and the surrounding areas! What a beautiful part of the world! This perfumery profiles scents that grow indigenous to The Burren. So neat to walk in the quaint, yet rustic gardens that feature the sources of these flowers and plants! We also enjoyed the little educational film that they showed on The Burren. It was a lovely place to come and what a special keepsake to buy one of these beautiful perfumes to bring home We didn't get a chance to eat at the restaurant as we had many other stops yet on our tour!!

Yelp
We stopped at this cute cozy place on 5/1/2018. As soon as you step out of your car you're welcomed with such an amazing scent. I don't know if it's the mixtures of perfumes or that mixed with the wilderness. Whatever it is it's wonderful. We didn't get the names of the staff but all were very helpful, humorous and welcoming. I wish I would have got the name of the young woman with black hair in a braid, she was so funny and helpful. Her humor went right with our Chicago humor. She spent the most time with us and made sure we got the right perfumes. One of the other woman gave us a suggestion of where to eat dinner..... Linnane's Lobster Bar.... it was sooooo good. All the perfume's were delightful....Frond and Man of Aran were two favorites of mine. The staff were very informative and knowledgeable about all of their products. Which include lotions, soaps, candles, serums, teas and perfumes. There is a tea room on sight, the public restrooms were clean and had a supply of hand soap sold by the perfumery. A must stop for anyone in the Burren region.

Yelp
This is a perfect stop when driving through the Burren. After driving for 1.5 hours, I started my self-guided your with a video about The Burren (kind of like a national park but not really because people live there and have businesses). Beautiful! I walked around their garden to see the array of plants and flowers they use for their perfumes and scented bath/body supplies (lotions, soaps, etc). Before choosing a perfume, I stopped in the tea shop for some lunch. I can't remember exactly what I had because it has been a couple of months now (delayed review), but I remember I enjoyed a salad and sandwich of some sort. Afterwards, I ended up buying the Iluan scent for me (and some for family as well). I have even ordered more online now because I love it!

Yelp
An interesting little place tucked away in the countryside of Ireland. Beautiful drive. The perfume part didn't interest me (because I'm a guy maybe) but the had a little garden and a tea room. I was hungry so we opted to eat there and was bummed when I only saw cheese on toast (most everything had been sold out; like salmon). I was pleasantly surprised when I ate it though. It was really good and filling. Normally I wouldn't give a compliment to a veggie meal!

Yelp
I made a stop here after a really cold, rainy, and windy day out in the Burren and it was a welcome respite. I had a big bowl of sweet potato soup with spicy chili and it had a really good kick. The goat cheese on toast was delicious and was served with a huge side of greens. It's a tiny space, but very cozy and the food was really fresh. I definitely enjoyed my meal!

Yelp
Forget the Burren proper and head straight to the perfumery. The garden is lovely, the tea room is charming (and has some pretty awesome carrot coriander soup), and the perfumery has a plethora of all natural, eco friendly scents (perfumes, candles, and soaps) which make for great gifts. You don't need more than an hour and a half to enjoy this hidden gem so make the time and get out there!

Yelp
Fun experience, smell the perfume, browse the other soap, lotion, etc offerings. Then head to the tea room for a nice lunch or dessert. The day we were there they had sweet potato and pepper soup which was fabulous and a nice ciabatta and cheese with salad. We did not have dessert but they looked great. Also fresh apple juice takes like pure apples in a glass. Pouring rain when we were there so we did not check out the gardens.

Yelp
If you want to find the worlds most lovely perfumery complimented with a tea room and the freshest pastries, then look no further. The employees are passionate and friendly, which is great for tourists or a more local experience. Our family went while traveling because we stumbled upon the sign on a local road and I would go back in a heart beat!

Lynn C.

Yelp
"Fantastic" Everything that is made here is created from the unique species that exist at the Burren. They show a short film with history and information on this special place. Also, the tea room is very nice for a quick break.

Russ B.

Yelp
All organic oats for breads, organically fed local free range hens for eggs, local organically fed cows for milk, cream, and butter, and local organically fed hogs for meats paired with care, attention, and love in preparing the food made this an extraordinary surprise! We had one of the best squash (local organically grown, naturally) soups we've ever tasted, and my wife said of their apple pie with homemade cream, "this is one of the best pastries I've had in my lifetime (50+years)!" The teas were delightful and inspired additional purchases. Even if you don't go to the Perfumery, this is a gem of a find for a light lunch!
