Classic Foods and Cocktails Invented in the San Francisco Bay Area | Eater SF

"Food historians will argue that the burrito has its origins in Mexico and in the American southwest before it made its way to San Francisco’s Mission district. But a pair of Mission taquerias each claims to have made the first Mission-style burrito (using a large flour tortilla and stuffing it with rice and beans as well as meat), Taqueria La Cumbre and El Faro Taqueria. La Cumbre says they invented the Mission burrito in 1969, while El Faro says that its owner created the first burritos of this kind, using two six-inch tortillas, for a group of firefighters in 1961. Still others claim that this portable, all-in-one meal was the invention of cooks who served Chicano farm workers, and it was one or more of these cooks who introduced the Mission burrito to city taquerias." - Jay C. This food truck has been located at this neighborhood gas station for some time and serves up all the popular foods you would expect from a taco truck. There are picnic tables for your use.

Been here plenty times. Always enjoyed the tacos and burritos!! Usually close around 6:30pm if it helps.

Google
Poor quality meats, under seasoned, pickled vegetables have no pickling on them, generally just not good. I've ordered here two or three times just to see if it got any better. It didn't, but there's no accounting for taste, because the place seems to be popular.

Google
The best burritos I've ever had!!!!!

Google
First time trying a burrito from here....Awww man it was so good...I will be back there

Google
Friendly enough service, mediocre burritos. The fish was overly crispy and cardboard like and similar experiences with the pork. Their salsa has not been good when I've had it, odd gelatinous texture.

Google
Breakfast burrito are smacking here fr best food around this area very cheap too.

Google
You can't greatly ruin a quesedilla but lady at the window either hates life or everybody In it...you know those kind of people always is a shifty mood that brings everybody else to a shifty mood.....she had the personality of an old fish momger...

Yelp
I usually like to stop here after work for a quick bite but today I am going to complain. I've NEVER had an issue with the food until today. I ordered 3 carne asada tacos and a pineapple agua fresca. My total came out to $17 which to me was pricey. If you are going to charge $3.50 per taco, can you please put some salt or seasoning in your freaking meat please! I was looking forward to my tacos but they tasted like plain air... NO FLAVOR! Plus, the onion and jalapeno were RAW and not fully cooked. I guess the girl was just being super lazy today. I'm not coming back again. I'd rather go to East Oakland where the quality of food is BETTER!

Yelp
Poor service Cashier (woman with glasses and dark hair) is very rude, I saw some comments that received a different service but we got a very disgusting service from this lady, there's non existent good treatment towards clients even though we asked politely about food and we placed our order the same way this lady doesn't know how to properly take orders, she has a very bad attitude.

Yelp
My work needed a last minute catering order for a small event. My boss had asked for tacos. I called around to a few restaurants and had zero success. I eventually decided to call The Burrito Truck because I drive by it on my way to work. They were AMAZING from the start. I needed 40 tacos and 2 large sides of rice and beans. I had to make sure they were able to accommodate to vegan and GF. They told me that for an order of this size to just give them a call an hour or two before I needed it. So I called, they took my order and when I arrived two hours later the food was bagged and ready to go promptly at the time we agreed upon. I received only positive feedback from the guests of the event. They loved the street tacos. We will be utilizing their catering again.

Yelp
My favorite go to truck. Everything is good here especially there sub sandwiches the steak with fries.

Yelp
For the cash and location (currently 3rd and Jefferson in West Oakland) you kinda can't beat this place. The food is great, the service is always kind and on point, and their menu is extensive. One of the only places around this part of town that does a Cali burrito too. Their sauces are great as well! It's located just to the left of the Ace Hardware. There's no real seating, but you don't go there to sit, you go there to get a good burrito at a good price.

Yelp
Bad Service. The lady taking order has the worst customer service ever. They messed up on an order and when asked to clarify the order she said that what i heard so that's what was made. She rolled here eyes and lied about the type of meat the tacos were. Please go somewhere else.

Ryan M.

Yelp
I don't know why all the bad reviews for the lady working here. She's very nice. Y'all are too sensitive. I usually get a bean cheese and rice burrito. Always good!!!

Yelp
I'm a basic bih that loves Carne Asada Fries. I first stumbled across this food truck while walking along my work at Jack London Square. Although the workers are very kind, there have been many moments where things get lost in translation. Based on my own experience, I have seen this food truck on the corner of 2nd and Webster, each time I have walked by, during work hours. They do items made to order and are very fast. Their menu ranges from Quesadillas to Burritos, Tacos to Tortas, Nachos to Fries, and Plates and Sopes. They also have three different Agua Frescas - Pina, Horchata, and Jamaica. The only down is that they typically make things a bit saltier than I prefer and the meat is a bit dry at times. But I love a good steak fries and have probably contributed a good amount of revenue to this truck.

Yelp
Psst, don't tell anyone but I have been looking all over for this Burrito Truck! WHERE ARE THEY?! I discovered Burrito Truck during the summer festival in Lake Merritt. I ordered the corn on the cob and the pork skin with veggies, and it was DELICIOUS! The corn on the cob was so tasty and warm with sour cream and all type of other deliciousness to it. Oh Lawd, I want to rewind back to that moment. This was a special as their menu doesn't market the items I tried; however, everything was made fresh (so be prepared to wait). The food was amazingly flavorful and tasty. Try the green sauce with the tacos and you will fall in LOVE! This truck was definitely popular with a line wrapping around the event. My friend had the tacos and couldn't stop bragging. I plan to try the tacos if I could just find the dang truck! Ughh!

Yelp
I love this place. We get food from them all the time. The food is consistently good quality and they use mostly paper packaging. Whats not to love!

Very nice fish burrito, quick service! Comes with pickled carrots and jalapenos and salsa. Yum!

Yelp
Decent, basic burrito truck. They're close to work, so I eat lunch here regularly. It's about the cheapest place to get food in the area. The carnitas is pretty good, could be crispier for my tastes, but i've paid more for a lot worse. The chicken and steak are ok. The burritos are alright, but $9 -- a little overpriced for the product; fair price compared to other eateries in the area. Tacos are a good deal. two for $6, and has pickled veg. my only real complaint is that they dont drain the beans well enough and you end up with soggy burrito bottom and stuff all over your hands. The guy that usually runs the truck, dont know if he's the owner or just a worker or what, is very nice. They've never failed to accommodate special requests. It can get a little backed up with the construction guys all show up en masse, but otherwise service's pretty quick. Not really much else in Jack London Square for Mexican food, unless you want to pay $17 for tacos at Plank.

Yelp
My family and I eat here all the time, it's absolutely delicious and super easy. It's very quick and inexpensive and there's always at least three things you want to get every time you look at the menu. The tortas, sopes and tacos are the family favorites.

Yelp
There are 3 taquerias down on San Pablo 2 and 3 blocks down . They have better service and better and better prices. The girl taking orders at this place is not nice.

Yelp
spotted The Burrito Truck in the spot the Egyptian Truck usually is at near JLS. leaving Eat Real since opening was at 3, not 11. side of truck listed a whole broadside of what's available. not a good sign. (jack of all trades, ,master of none) eats: lengua burrito (9), $1 over listed price, not surprised -good size burrito with lots of watery, tasteless lengua. also rice, some beans, veggies. -green sauce saved the burrito. -nothing obviously wrong with meat, soaked lengua indiciates origins questionable. -nothing immediately felt, dizziness hours later too detached to link to burrito. leftovers: -quick service. open 10-3 daily except weekends.

Yelp
Found this truck at the CAL Rugby game, and I had never even heard of it. I ordered a Steak and Shrimp Nachos and they were out of this world. Great job on the service as well.

Yelp
The food isn't terrible, but the service is. I ordered a veggie Torta and a drink. I paid the $9 and added $1 to the tip jar. They made me a burrito. Fine, not what I ordered, so I asked if they could they please make what I ordered. Nope, both people in the truck adamantly swore that that was what I had ordered and refused to do anything else. I asked for my money back and they first tried to give me $7 and then forked over another dollar insisting it had only been $8. Fuck you guys.

B M.

Yelp
This is going to be controversial, but I have to say they have some of the better ones in the East Bay. That's right! I said it!

Robert H.

Yelp
I had seen this truck in my neighborhood numerous times (100 Webster in Oakland) and decided to give them a try. I ordered online, specifying the 100 Webster location, and their website accepted my order. I went to 100 Webster to pick up my order, and guess what? The truck wasn't there! I called them to complain. The man who answered the phone was able to tell me that their truck was at their San Pablo location that day. But when I uttered the word "refund," suddenly he couldn't understand what I was saying. Then he hung up on me. I filed a dispute with my credit card company. I won't order from this truck ever again.

Yelp
New name, higher prices, food is not as good. My recent order (Nachos) had black spots all over the avocado. They could clearly see it when they made it so I am angry that they tried to sneak this. I was already home when I discovered it. I rated "The Taco Truck" 5 stars so it's disappointing that this has happened since then. Their steak is still really good though why is why I gave a 3 and not a 2 (and I keep going back for some reason).

Yelp
my favorite spot! the nachos are really great, but the burritos are where it's at. I prefer the chicken, but the lengua is delicious. they recently re branded and the prices changed a bit, but I have no complaints. It's very reasonable for the area, and better than a lot of other places nearby.

Mel S.

Yelp
I love the food go there all the time, Staff lacking personality, no one smiles in that truck, look like they're always angry. Need to be more personal to all there customer not just spanish speaking customers.

Yelp
These are the best burritos in my area. They are fresh, flavorful and fast. The tacos, chips and salsa are also great. I've tried the California fries (think nachos but with fries instead of chips) and was a little disappointed. I didn't like the fake cheese, otherwise it was tasty.

Ase P.

Yelp
I found a penny in my burrito about 1/4 of the way in... I wish I could give a negative rating, not only due to this gross health hazard, but also in response to how the operators of this truck responded, which was essentially no response. I immediately notified the health department, eat here at your own risk

Yelp
Extreme disappointment. Ghetto taco truck charging for tiny burritos that lack punch. Totally lackluster taste and the proportions sucked ass. Got a veggie burrito, literally as big as a dollar bill. Six dollars down the drain. Save your money, drive a few blocks to chili jalapeno or the tacos el rey truck, and get something far more tasty, about twice or three times the size. Vegetables are cheap, I can only imagine what type of meat you get for one dollar more. Definitely won't be back, well most definitely be telling my friends of this pos cart.
