All the foods are so creative and generally good I got 1. Korean Chicken wings - appetizer. Very good 2. Taco - first bite was good. A little heavy but still liked it 3. Red curry - this was my dish. Unfortunately it was SO salty I couldn’t eat at all. I just had to eat rice that comes with it and drain 30 dollars 😢 I think the chef might have made a mistake with salt Drink was good too

This gem of a place was an absolute delight. We sat at the bar and our bartender (I think Brian was his name)) was simply the best. He and the entire staff were welcoming and friendly. The restaurant was clean and cozy. He explained us the drinks and a lot of them were intriguing. The drinks we ordered were simply the best. We had Cheech & Ching and Hot Dirty Pickle. He also explained us different appetizers and mains. The food was out of the world. This elevated American food is a must try. Pork Belly was mind blowing and so was the Schnitzlenator. We shared both appetizer and Mains. Now, we wanted to try dessert. They were out of ice cream but had last scoop left that they offered us to try. The ice cream was Banana Curry and it was sooooo delicious. I wish they had more available. We ordered Sweet Potato Cake with Cinnamon butter cream. It was light, most, and not overly sweet. It was surprisingly super delicious dessert. We highly recommend this restaurant whether you are a local or visiting. We will definitely return for another meal ☺️

Google
Wonderful atmosphere, friendly stuff and delicious meals makes this restaurant a must visit when in Bangor. I tried the fried chicken and waffles while my wife went for an Italian dish. The mushroom appetizer dish was also excellent!

Google
I ordered the Spicy Peanut Chicken Pot pie and my husband ordered Shrimp and pork belly over Drunken Noodles. Though we do not have dietary restrictions, the restaurant’s effort to accommodate them was noted.

This place has great reviews and I enjoy trying new places! I arrived around 6:30 to a half-full restaurant/bar. Brittany brought me still water right away and a menu. I couldn’t wait to see what would be the chef’s pasta. Tonight it was fresh fettuccine pasta made with spinach and herbs. Very earthy and delicious! I ordered it with lobster (served with two claws for an additional $12). The ratio of (too much) pasta to lobster was way off. The pasta smelled and looked delish, it was over-dressed (ie oily, garlic, etc - and I love garlic). I started with a small salad with tomatoes, arugula and a bacon vinaigrette. Very tasty, too much dressing though. Perfect portion size. I asked for fresh silverware when my entree arrived and I believe my waitress rolled her eyes however I did get additional silverware. I also asked for salt and pepper, in which she definitely rolled her eyes. I decided not to ask for a pasta spoon because the vibe was negative toward my other requests but the pasta length was very long to swirl on my fork and it was extremely hot. I ordered a non-alcohol sparkling wine which was a nice addition. Brittany checked on me twice during my entree but I waited at least 15 minutes after I finished my meal for her to come my way so I could request the bill. I may give this place another try, next time with friends, when I’m back in Bangor.

I have been wanting to check this place out since they opened and I finally did. They surpassed my expectations. It was definitely a dining experience not to be missed out on. I ordered an island punch drink. If you like spicy you will love it. Gives a little tingle to the lips. I also ordered the tacos birria and the drunken noodles. Very generous portions. Fast, friendly, and attentive service. They got me seated right away even though they were busy. Stellar food and service! It's going to be a new favorite place for me to go and treat myself.

Google
What a gem! The Butcher The Baker has such a cute, quaint vibe: a perfect blend of brick charm and modern rustic design that makes you feel instantly cozy. The chicken and waffles were absolutely delicious, the perfect balance of salty and sweet! My husband (on a die hard carnivore diet) went for the 12 oz New York strip and it was top-notch, cooked to medium-rare perfection. The use of compound butter and tallow oil was one of the reasons why wanted to try them, something we rarely see when dining out. Using healthy, natural ingredients is hard to find! The cocktails were fantastic too. Their bar is fully stocked and clearly skilled. They can make anything you’d want, but I highly recommend the Spicy Mother-in-Law. I’m a big fan of a spicy margarita, and this was a delicious twist! Service was wonderful from start to finish. You can tell this place takes pride in both food and hospitality. We can’t wait to come back on our next visit to Bangor, highly recommend!

Google
I dropped by for a cocktail and dessert. It was the best cannoli I’ve had in a long time. The cocktail was excellent. The hostess was wonderful to find me a solo spot at the bar and bartender was phenomenal.

Yelp
I didn't have any food, but there were several appealing options such as a seasonal beet salad as an appetizer and different chicken entrees and a homemade pasta special. There were two hosts to greet me upon arrival. The space can be a little tricky to find if you've never been before.. if facing restaurant from the street you need to go to the right of it in a little alley way like spot and door is on your left in that space. The ambiance is upbeat and medium loud. Medium to dim lit with 7 or so spots at the bar and then tables near window or in dining room. There are wine, beer, and cocktail options. I had a blackberry cocktail with egg white, blackberry compote and gin. It was very good. Not too sweet or sour and light and fresh. The customers varied from older couples to dad and their kid to people in their early to mid 30's.

Yelp
The service was great! Absolutely no complaints with that. I had the fish of the day which was Miso maple salmon over rice with green beans and it was delicious. When traveling for work, I try to get food that I would cook for myself at home and this was that kind of meal. The one "odd" thing was the insane amount of salt on their fries. They were fried perfectly, shoe string like, but I had to take my fingers and dust off the salt. I love salt! But they were WAY over done. Otherwise this is a nice spot. I will come back next time I'm in town.

Yelp
Food is always so good!! Menu has some staples and some seasonal rotations. I am amazed I have not reviewed this place before! Service is beyond great! Our server from a year ago came over to wish my son a happy birthday! Very cool that they remembered us! Ambiance is kinda trendy, but not over the top. It fells like a great Maine restaurant. Again if you are in Bangor and want a meal to remember this needs to be on the list.

Yelp
The Butcher and the Baker is in downtown Bangor and offers American style meals. I had the schnitzel which came with a delicious dill sauce. It was a very filling meal. The cocktails drinks were very good here and the bartender knew her mixology. The restaurant has a cozy but contemporary vibe. The staff were pleasant and I would return here.
google avatar

Fernando C.

Yelp
All delicious. Great service and ambience. I had the tacos birria (awesome!) and Sally got the wild mushroom flatbread. It was great! Would return.
google avatar

Leslie G.

Yelp
What a great find in Bangor! Loved the cocktails and food! Excellent service and nice ambience.
google avatar

Ryan B.

Yelp
Bro... really? I knew I was in the right place when the had something called "The Schnitzelnator". You can tell the chef is a craftsman who takes an incredible amount of pride in his food. Needless to say it was absolutely amazing and I would suggest it to anyone in the area. Last but certainly not least was dessert. I'm a meat and potatoes guy but I made an exception for their house made carrot cake. It's top 5 cake I've ever had. Do yourself a favor and go here.

Yelp
Highlights 1. Friendly Service 2. Gluten-Sensitive Options 3. Great Menu Variety Stopped in to The Butcher & Baker recently on a week night with no reservation. I was able to be seated at the bar right away but most of the table were full! The bartender was really friendly and immediately got me a water and a menu. I noticed right away that the menu had a ton of great options! Items that can be modified to be gluten sensitive were marked. I ordered a glass of white wine and the curry. The wine and food were excellent and both were generously portioned. The curry was very flavorful with the right amount of kick and plenty of veggies. So glad I stopped in! Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!
google avatar

Erin L.

Yelp
The best restaurant I've been to in Bangor! Every dish we tried was amazing, and we went twice in one week. They also have a pretty large cocktail menu and the drinks were good. The service was also great, our server was the same both times and remembered us and our drink orders the second time. It's a pretty small place, so there was a short wait time.

D S.

Yelp
This place is for REAL! We can't believe this is in Bangor, Maine! My wife and I are locals and came here on a whim. It. Is. Amazing! The kind of place that makes me wish I had two faces! First, the ambiance is awesome - small, cozy, but very classy. The service was excellent! To be honest, it was about 4:30 on a Saturday, so not a mad rush, but we were immediately seated and attended to. The food. The FOOD! We had the Chef's special spinach pasta with chicken, and Shrimp and Grits! The pasta is scratch made and oh so good, and the SHRIMP! Huge, with cajun seasoning, it was a complete success. We had two mocktails to complete the package. We will DEFINITELY be back. Next time we're getting the sausage board, and chicken and waffles. If you live in Bangor, you have to go here.

Yelp
The food was delicious ! The atmosphere was fun and laid back. Would definitely recommend.

Mackenzie F.

Yelp
This place was absolutely INCREDIBLE!! This was our first time visiting this restaurant and it was amazing. The service was top tier and our waiter was so nice and attentive. The atmosphere was very inviting and nicely decorated! Lastly the food was jaw dropping, we started with the Korean wings and first of all... they're HUGE. They are so delicious, perfect blend of spicy and sweet but extremely sticky so luckily they bring out wet wipes with them!! I got drunken noodles for my entree and they were amazing, by far one of the best entrees I've ever had. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and waffles and loved those as well! We ended with the creme brulee, they switch out the flavor depending on the season and we got pumpkin spice and it was to die for. Overall this place was amazing and I wish we had come here sooner!! Highly highly recommend!!
google avatar

Carla D.

Yelp
Overall good, friendly service and food was tasty. One of the better restaurants in all of Bangor. Some dishes were better than others, the bone marrow and butternut squash soup were delicious, the Korean wings were just too messy. The pork chop with beans was so good as was the country fried tenderloin on special but the coconut curry not so much, way too much root vegetables.
google avatar

Sam D.

Yelp
It was a night out and we wanted to try something new. We landed here. It's a cute place with only a few tables which gives good vibes (minus the TV at the bar). Lucky for us, we were able to be seated right away. Our serve was lovely and kind and attentive. What did we order? We got the steak and frites-- honestly, it did not hit the mark. We wouldn't get it again. It was very fatty. Almost half the steak was not edible due to the fat. We also got the fish dish (I can't remember the name). It wasn't the best, but it was OK. After watching other plates come out of the kitchen, I would say we ordered the wrong things. So we'd be interested in coming back and making better choices off the menu.

Tim S.

Yelp
Great service and amazing food - drunken noodles... yum! Chocolate canolis for dessert!

Allison F.

Yelp
Amazing meal! Everything from service to the food was excellent! The butcher and to a baker outdone themselves! I would add the bartender too! Delicious food, cocktails and ambience. Friendly and attentive staff, they all worked together

Yelp
Dinner last night with a large group of beautiful friends at The Butcher The Baker. It was my first time there and the menu was really intriguing, making it hard to make a decision. The service was outstanding, we were many, had separate checks, and special dietary restrictions, all of that was met with professionalism and a willingness to please. The dishes were beautiful and delicious. I had two appetizers and was so impressed with my choices. The foie gras and beef carpaccio, not seen in a lot of menus was served with some lovely pickled vegs and a fig jam. Tuna poke with avocado and cucumber was so fresh tasting with just the right hint of heat, highly recommend. I will be back soon. Thank you.

Yelp
Lovely local restaurant. Great service and reasonable prices. I wish we had a picture of the Korean wings! They were huge and messy but delicious.
google avatar

Al S.

Yelp
The food was delicious. I will have come to try more of the menu. The food was seasoned very well. Not too much and was great. The service was very good and the service person was very attentive and accommodating. Love location and was pleased with y to he ambiance. Recommend

Pike J.

Yelp
Fabulous, creative menu; funky, friendly atmosphere. We'll travel back for the fall menu.
google avatar

Robyn B.

Yelp
Food, ambience, and service is always excellent. They always remember us and get our porters (Lawyer Up) ready and great us with a warm welcome. This is the favorite place to eat of me and my boyfriend/partner. We've never had a bad experience there. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Michelle N.

Yelp
Gochujang Pork Belly is ridiculous! I could eat this every day... Every day until my arteries slammed shut and the inevitable heart failure from eating piles of delicious fat.
google avatar

Isabelle B.

Yelp
The food was fantastic and the drinks on point. The service was perfect, every person we interacted with was very attentive. The ambiance was pleasant. Can't wait to go back again.
google avatar

Tom S.

Yelp
Good food and newer option for Bangor, a bit on the pricey side for Bangor - the pork chop was very good, however $33 for that entree

Gary K.

Yelp
This is the second time we have been to this establishment. The first time was good. This time, very poor. The service was fine but the food left much to be desired. I ordered the Chef's daily catch, Miso Salmon. The salmon was a previously frozen square of salmon, not fresh. It was over cooked and the glaze was literally baked on. The sticky rice was a mash of bland white rice and it was sticky because if was way overcooked. It had no flavor and tasted likand e mush. The green beans, maybe I got five or six green beans, were so over cooked that the skins were coming off of them. My wife ordered the drunken noodles because they were so good the first time we went. Unfortunately, these were not the same in any way. The noodles were different, the taste was so different and they ended up giving her a stomach ache later that night. For the price that we paid, this was below sub par. I wouldn't recommend this place as their is no consistency in the quality of their food.
google avatar

Keshav T.

Yelp
The ambience, service and food were all amazing. Our waitress was very attentive and cheery, and the food came within 20 minutes. I had the chicken and waffles and they were SO good, I can't recommend it enough. The only downside I'd say is that I came with a party of 4 and their tables are pretty small, which made me feel kind of cramped. Once you get used to it it's not that bad though, and the experience was definitely worth it!!
google avatar

Tim G.

Yelp
This place is excellent in every way. Food is clearly scratch made as advertised. Great menu of new American with some big flavored Asian-inspired undertones. There is something for everyone here and great value for the price point. Everything we had was very delicious. Presentation is also special and sets this place apart. Great atmosphere. Restaurant filled up fast after we arrived for an early dinner and the food just kept on coming out to everyone's tables, making you stop and check out the amazing presentation of each dish. This relatively new restaurant (opened May 2023) should quickly become a long term staple in the downtown Bangor area!
google avatar

Bob A.

Yelp
This was certainly 5 Stars.... The only thing that might hold you back is the smallish bar and smallish wait. Other than that, it lives up to its name! I had the marrow appetizer.... Succulent! Then I had the English Sausage roll that looked like a beef Wellington.... Tremendous/Spectacular! Hats off to the chef right there. My advice, if ever in Bangor Maine.... Choose here first and Timber last.
google avatar

Donna L.

Yelp
Chicken and waffles were just ok. Drunken noodles were tasty except for the pork belly. They were dry and not pleasant to eat. Drinks were overly pricy.
google avatar

Chris D.

Yelp
I had the bone marrow and was very impressed. Everyone at my table was thrilled with their meals and the service was excellent. It is kinda small so get there early or make reservations. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
First time back since it changed from Fiddleheads to The Butcher - The Baker and it did not disappoint! Environment is clean and cozy and the staff were all amazing. Bethany our server helped with recommendations and offered advice on different dishes and drinks. I started off with The Butcher Drink, then we all shared the special which was Cuban Egg Rolls which were also fantastic! For my meal I ordered the Chicken Chimichangas and took a piece of homemade carrot cake home, which was probably one of the best I have had in a long time. Would absolutely be back to try more!

Suzi G.

Yelp
We went at 7:30 and it was very very busy so we had to wait a little bit but once we got our table, the waitress was very attentive. We had a great meal. Totally recommend. Drinks were good and so was food. Make sure you eat the crème brûlée or dessert.
google avatar

Charles B.

Yelp
One of the best meals I've had in a long time! I went here with my wife and kids, and it was amazing. I had shrimp and grits, my wife had Caribbean fish, my son had chicken and waffles, and my daughter had gnocchi. All four dishes were outstanding though I think the shrimp and grits was particularly excellent. We really appreciated how accommodating the waitress was to our picky children, and how she took their requests in stride. I wish we had a place like this closer to our home in Massachusetts.
google avatar

Jim D.

Yelp
Service was warm and inviting even with kids. Food was creative and so tasty. I only wish they had not run out of carpaccio but then again it just means we have to return!
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
Wish there were some more vegetarian options for families where not everyone eats meat. Just disappointing.

Chris F.

Yelp
Amazing little place, we stopped overnight in Town on our way to PEI- I had the ribs, wife had the curry with chicken- both were amazingly good, great service too- started with the fish tacos which were awesome as well-

Rex R.

Yelp
Easily one of the best restaurants in Maine give this a try and you will not be disappointed.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Wonderful food and really dug the vibe and drinks are great. Will definitely be back for date night with my bride when next in town.
google avatar

Kimberly G.

Yelp
My first time here and will definitely not be my last. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The service is top notch and the food is extraordinary! I enjoyed the bone marrow appetizer (it's enough for 2-3 people), and the drunken noodles were outstanding! The tiramisu and creme brûlée dessert's were one of the best I've ever had. I can't wait to go back and try some other menu items.
google avatar

Kate A.

Yelp
Our experience at The Butcher The Baker was everything we wanted it to be and more. The food was excellent, the service was top notch, the drinks were good, and even the dessert was delicious. The dining room is comfortable, clean, and upscale without being snooty. I would consider this fine dining for the area, and with that in mind the portions were huge! Not a complaint by the way! We'll definitely be going back!

Tiana R.

Yelp
Love that I was told of this location. Best food/ drinks I've had in Maine since moving here. Has a very at home atmosphere.

Debbie E.

Yelp
Great food and drinks! The ambiance is really nice with the brick and wood. Our server was great and made great recommendations for our food. We ended up taking dessert home, chocolate cake with peanut butter icing!! Great evening!

Barney M.

Yelp
Food is great. Creative menu. Something new and well executed. Great and friendly service and a nice dining room. B

Lynne O.

Yelp
What a lovely place. Fun cocktails, unique menu, huge portions. Service and food were exceptional! Will be back!

Vivian V.

Yelp
So glad these owners have moved to Bangor! The food and drinks are fine tuned, hitting the right balance of creative and comfort. Staff is knowledgeable and attentive. Seating is well spaced. As we moved away fro Bangor, this is the last place we ate at. Good luck in the future!

Liz W.

Yelp
This place is beyond amazing. Food is delicious, creative drinks, generous portions for the quality, staff are super friendly... Bangor needed a restaurant like this desperately. The fried chicken is awesome, they also had the best Mac n cheese I've ever had. If you're on the fence - definitely try this place out!!

Brody J.

Yelp
If I could give this place well over 5 stars I would. I got the chicken and waffles and it was by far the best chicken and waffles I've had. The waiter that we had admitted he was the newer one on the fleet, but he was nothing short of amazing. I ended up leaving a 50% tip, as well as a tip strictly to the chef because again, the food was amazing. I would highly recommend this hidden gem in Bangor and I will be coming back again.
