Ssssh, don't tell anyone but The Butchers Arms is really, really good.
Small and pretty rustic inside, this is very much about the food. It's run by a lovely couple, and I can't say I've had a better meal or friendlier service in Gloucestershire. It's not exactly a pub, since you'd have to be very local to go here and not eat. Nice small menu and I'd say you'd be hard pushed to make a bad choice - I've let them choose for me before as I like surprises ... good ones, anyway.
Very reasonably priced for the quality and care. You'd pay twice this in Cheltenham and have to cope with a haughty atmosphere too.
Children aren't accepted, which is a shame for me as otherwise I'd go more, however not usually a massive fan of other people's children so it probably works out pretty well on balance. It's usually pretty difficult to get a table and is full weeks in advance for Fridays and Saturdays, so whilst I don't to make my life even harder I do think they deserve recognition for what they do.
