Yelp
I was really looking forward to coming here..........and it was underwhelming.
The ambiance is amazing. Think first half 20th century. Very 30's, 40's, 50's esque. Complete with old films and pictures of famous faces from the time. I went with my dad who is 70 and we definitely had some nostalgic conversations.
Service was great! No problem with our waitress. She was sweet, kind, and attendant. She handled all of our requests or modifications graciously and professionally.
The menu here looks great and I was super excited to try The Butcher's Burger with pork belly, fried egg, cabbage slaw and a soy glaze. When my order came, as you'll see in the pictures, the plating was mediocre and amateur in nature. The burger, which I ordered medium, was well done leading to one of my table mates remarking "how can you be named The Butcher's Son and not know how to cook a burger". The waitress graciously took the burger back and returned it slightly less well done. I just went ahead and ate it and, while all of the flavor profiles worked and the taste well not bad, it wasn't rememberable.
My father had the Oyster Rockefeller with a Caesar Salad which looked great and he loved!
Our other table mate had a cup of She Crab soup which you can see from the picture had actual lump crab meat it. So way to go there! She did remark that it was a tad too salty.
For drinks, I try to two of their old fashioned's from a list of specialty Old Fashioned's they serve. The first was the Apple Butter Old Fashioned with Makers Mark (I substituted for Bulleit), local apple butter, brown sugar simple and angostura bitters. The brown sugar was a little overpowering and would have loved to taste more of the apple butter. The second one I tried was the Peanut Butter and Jelly Old Fashioned with Skrewball Peanut Butter Bourbon, Chambord Liquer, simple syrup, and cherry bitters. I've had a Peanut Butter and Jelly Old Fashioned from several places and when done right is amazing. This one didn't work. Any hint of the jelly part of this drink was lost in the sauce of the other ingredients.
Overall not a horrible experience and would eat here again.
