I've only lived in Chesapeake for a year. 3-4 months ago, we tried this place for the first time even though there were some mixed reviews. When we were there that time, we were seated quickly and had good service. The apps we ordered were delivered in acceptable time and were good. The drinks were also good. I don't remember the name of our waitress, but she was excellent. Unfortunately, our entrees were delivery with sides that were cold and unevenly cooked, and the steaks were barely luke warm. This isn't acceptable for a meal that cost this much and a place that claims to be a good steakhouse. Outback or Texas Roadhouse meals were better that the entrees we had at Butcher's Son.
Fast forward to last Saturday night. My son wanted to go so I gave this place another chance. It was about 6PM and the restaurant was about 50% full. They did have a few larger tables to the side, but the center section was largely empty. We were seated promptly and then sat for 6-7 minutes waiting for our server. At that point, a lady came to the table and informed us she was in training but poured us a water and said that she'd be right back. Another 10 minutes go by and still no server. During that time, we watched a few tables around us that were clearly frustrated with the wait times, and one table that just received their meals, were complaining that the sides were wrong, and some of the food was not prepared as they asked. Looking around, I couldn't see anyone that was even looking over towards our table and we'd been there for 20 minutes at this point. We got up and walked out. As soon as we were in front of the door, the lady that poured our water came running asked if everything was ok. I told her that the wait time was unacceptable and that we were leaving but she acted like she was shocked.
In my life, I have eaten at some great steakhouses (Jeff Ruby's, Carnevor in Milwaukee, Chicago Firehouse, etc), and Butcher's Son is sadly nowhere near that level. It's literally one of the most underwhelming dining experiences I've had, especially considering how this place presents itself and the prices they charge. It's a shame. I won't be back.
