Opinion: Gluten-free cuisine is anything but tasteless - SilverKris

"The author's gluten-free restaurant in the Tiong Bahru neighbourhood focuses on delivering comforting, satisfying dishes for those avoiding gluten — for example, using chestnut flour to make pasta so diners can still enjoy classic comfort meals without feeling deprived." - Charlene Fang

I’ve been here many times with family, friends, and for business purposes as well. The first time, I was pleasantly surprised by the staff’s overall service and the delicious food. Since then, I’ve seen menu and staff changes and have still managed to be consistently impressed by everything and everyone here. The service staff (Yugen, Shaun, Aereus, Bradley, Shirley and most recently Eleana) are always a delight to interact with and the chefs as well work hard ensure our meals here are perfect. All dishes are nice but highly recommended: Starters / Snacks: Rosemary focaccia and Pao de queijo Mains: Sanchoku wagyu picanha and moqueca, remember to ask for off menu items as well! Desserts: Choco lava cake and toucinho do ceu Thank you for all the good times and I hope to be able to share this wonderful gem of a restaurant with as many people as I can!

Really enjoyed our meal here, still thinking about it the next day! Will definitely return again. The picanha and octopus was grilled to perfection, nicely charred and it brought out the flavour of the meat and seafood very well. Ordered a cocktail, it was good as well. Cozy place. You can tell that the food and drinks were prepared with a lot of love. Great job team!

Beautiful shopfront that doubles as a spacious, pet-friendly alfresco area. The lush, plant-filled decor evokes the chillax charm of Bali cafes and instantly sets a chill and homely vibe. We had made a reservation and were pleased to find our table ready upon arrival. There was ample space between tables, even with my pet’s stroller, which made our dining experience comfortable. Service was unhurried and we were given time to browse the menu without feeling rushed. Complimentary iced water was served promptly, which was thoughtful given the warm weather. Drinks arrived soon after, and I thoroughly enjoyed my cocktail, which was a delightful blend of pandan and coconut. The food took a little while to arrive, but the pacing allowed us to appreciate each dish individually. The wild snapper ceviche was fresh and springy, beautifully complemented by a tangy sauce that balanced the flavours and eliminated any trace of fishiness. The accompanying tapioca chips were a pleasant surprise, being thin, crisp, and perfectly fried. For the wagyu picanha, we requested for medium doneness with a slightly more charred exterior. While our idea of charred differed slightly from the kitchen’s, the beef was nicely smoked and well-seared. The potato wedges served on the side were exceptional! Crisp on the outside, fluffy within, and perfectly seasoned. It’s been a long time since I’ve had wedges this satisfying. The grilled octopus was tender and fresh, but the real star was the potato mash, with its creamy texture layered with complex flavours. We were far too full for dessert, but I’ll definitely be back to try more. Highly recommendation for anyone looking for a relaxed, pet-friendly dining spot.

Food presentation is not bad. But the wagyu picanha steak which cost $58++ is terribly tough. We spat out most of the steak. When feedback to the staff, her reply was, “it’s the tendon and the cut, i will feedback to the kitchen.” The starter ‘palm of hearts’ was underwhelming. The octopus which is a signature is ok, not the most impressive, also not the freshest to taste. The 3 dishes + a glass of red wine costs $177+. Don’t waste the money. You can cook better steak at home.

Tried a Brazilian-inspired restaurant and really enjoyed the food. Everything is gluten-free, but still full of flavour. The corn ribs were crispy and tasty, and the grain-fed White Pyrenees lamb was tender and well-seasoned. Ended with the açai sorbet, which was light and refreshing — not too sweet. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the whole place had a warm, relaxed vibe. Food was satisfying and easy on the stomach. Would definitely come back.

I had an incredible dining experience at this restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious—my favorites were the lamb chop (perfectly tender and flavorful) and the octopus (cooked to perfection with a great texture). Every dish was well-prepared and full of taste. What made the meal even better was the friendly and attentive staff. The service was warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The team was professional, accommodating, and truly added to the wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for great food and top-notch service. Will definitely be back!

Amazing food and cozy ambience. Good & friendly service . Definitely recommended. Special thanks to Shirley (the only female waitress if I got the name wrong) and the bartender they made the dining experience extra pleasant . 😊

Google
Pet friendly if you sit outside! While the food is good and service is attentive, as with the other reviews, we felt the pricing is slightly higher than similar restaurants. I can understand the use of better ingredients and the care while preparing the food can bring the price up, but a can of coke is a can of coke. Still worth a visit if you’re in the area. It’s not that crowded and reservations can be made so not stress about trying to get a table.

Yelp
All in all a wonderful brunch. Star of the show was the Beef and Octopus. Weakest link for us was the croquette. Small portions which we prefer so we can taste more items. Though a 2 hr seating time food and service was prompt so no stress to finish your food. Got to say food was unique, cooked on point and tasted wonderful. A solid 5 star establishment worth a revisit.

Yelp
Food was so so. A couple dishes were good, some were not great especially the lamb which was fatty and quite raw. The portions are quite small compared to the prices for each dish. We did like the squid and basket of bread. Service was not great, hurried and short since we sat outside and was not easy to get their attention. When pointed out one of them was very good to make amends. Ambiance is nothing much to shout about. The 5-stars review was a little misleading to me.

Yelp
dinner at butcher's wife the other night. food is very focussed on brazillian fusion i must say, with 80% of the names i cant pronounce. in layman's term, the cheese bread was savoury tasty, the seafood stew was hearty and the octopus' soft and tender. weirdly enough, the mango komboucha was very good without overly & annoyingly fizzy. . make sure to get the choc lava cake to end the meal. butcher's wife is definitely a good option if you're in tiong bahru neighbourhood and want a decent meal without breaking the wallet. overall a 3 1/2 star so im going to push it to 4.

Yelp
Very interesting restaurant that serves gluten free food and natural wines. Contrary to the name there are a ton of vegetarian friendly items. We really liked the Cassava chips, ceviche, sweet potato and buckwheat gnocchi and chicken dosa. Will be back sometime to try the rest of the menu as some really interesting options are there!

Yelp
This place is phenomenal!! Great service...great food. Not sure what all we had...a beet salad, grilled veggies, some chicken something served in a taco-type vehicle. We also had the bread basket. Oh...and we both had juices. We got here right at 6pm when they opened. By 645, the bar was lined with grab orders. My hubby is a no-gluten naysayer...and even he loved the food. This place will not dissapoint!!

Yelp
This place is a godsend on a lovely little street in Singapore. The entire restaurant is gluten free so there is no fear of cross-contamination. The food was sublime, the staff were knowledgeable and friendly, without being obsequious. I would eat here every day if I could.

Yelp
The location is off the beaten path, but we were all pleasantly surprised by this little eatery. We had the green pea hummus and focaccia bread to start and both were fantastic. The main course selections (octopus, sea bass, veggie burger, and beef burger) were the perfect size and very well prepared. We will be back and highly recommend this place for a quiet dinner with friends.

Yelp
Loved the menu! Totally worth it to go and taste amazing flavors.. The gluten free burger bun and chips were my favorites.. try sausages with green pea sauce..
