Located in the heart of Nguyen Hue Street, this old apartment building has been transformed into a vibrant café hub. Each floor offers a different selection of cafés, giving visitors plenty of options to explore. You can take the elevator for a small fee of 3,000 VND, refundable by the café you visit or opt for the stairs, which are free and lined with aesthetic graffiti and quirky stickers on every level. Don’t forget to pick up a tote bag from The E.Y.E on Level 4, then wind down with an evening coffee at Balcony Café, where you can enjoy a beautiful overlook of Nguyen Hue Street with your loved one.

The Cafe Apartment is one of those places you see all over social media and think, “Okay, no way it’s actually that cute.” But yeah… it really is. The whole building is basically a vertical maze packed with cafés and little shops, and exploring it feels like you’re on a scavenger hunt for caffeine. There are around eight accessible floors, and you can climb them the classic way (stairs) or take the elevator. Just a heads-up: the lift isn’t free — it’s about 30k VND per person. Honestly, the stairs aren’t terrible, but if it’s scorching outside or you’re not feeling heroic, the lift might save your soul. There are tons of interesting cafés inside, each with different vibes, decor, and menus. My only tip? Do your homework before you show up. We walked up and down the building like enthusiastic but confused explorers, only to realize the café we wanted was in a whole different building. Classic. If you’re coming by motorbike, there’s a security guard outside who’ll sort out the parking for around 20k VND. Pretty convenient, and it feels safe enough to leave your bike there while you wander around. Overall, it’s definitely worth a visit — super photogenic, quirky, and fun to explore. Just come prepared so you’re not running laps like we did!

The place looks a lot nicer on the pictures. The AC doesn't work properly and there is a smell inside that reminds one of the syrup of boba teas (not very pleasant). You have to order from the counter, and the staff seems to be stressed. Ordered an egg coffee, but the coffee most likely was just instant coffee and didn't taste good. We ordered a combo with a chocolate croissant (covered one half with chocolate outside), but instead, we got a pain au chocolat. The views are great, but food and drinks leave a lot of question marks. The staff seems stressed, and loud Christmas music was playing and it wasn't even mid November yet. They also didn't serve any water with coffee, which all other coffee shops did that I've been to (20+ within Saigon). Having observed how many tourists come in, they lose at least 50% of their revenue by not serving people at the table, because people just leave when nobody comes to them. This place definitely has potential but needs more care and love.

Elevator fee is 3000 dong and covers both ways. It’s cheap but there may be a queue. Taking the stairs is free and easy as each flight is short. The more popular places - % is on the 4th floor and Po Coffee is on the 8th floor. Overall a unique experience to enjoy the cafe culture in Vietnam, take photos of the view from the balcony as well as the corridors. And look see at the small shops alongside the cafes

One of the most famous attractions in Saigon and it’s definitely a spot you shouldn’t miss. Lots of very fun different and very cozy cafes with great vibes! Also have some clothing stores! Most of cafes have outside areas with a view to the city which is super nice too.

The Café Apartment in Ho Chi Minh City is one of those rare places where history, creativity, and urban energy blend into a single unforgettable experience. Located right across from Saigon Times Square on Nguyen Hue Walking Street, this iconic nine-story building immediately catches your eye with its patchwork of balconies, each uniquely decorated by the cafés and boutiques within. From the moment you step inside, the old rustic charm of the building envelops you weathered walls, creaking staircases, and the unmistakable aura of a place that has lived many lives. One of the most fascinating aspects of The Café Apartment is its rich history. Long before it became a haven for artists, students, and café lovers, the building served as military quarters during the mid-20th century. Some parts also housed government officials and later residential tenants, giving it a layered past that still echoes in its architectural details. This heritage adds depth to the experience; as you climb floor by floor, you’re not just entering different cafés you’re wandering through decades of Saigon’s story. Each unit has been transformed into a colorful, character-rich café or boutique, making the building feel like a vertical village. By day, sunlight spills onto the pastel-painted balconies, creating an irresistibly photogenic scene. But it’s at night that the building truly comes alive. Vibrant lighting string lights, neon signs, softly glowing lanterns turns the façade into a mesmerizing mosaic of colors. From the balconies, you get beautiful views of Nguyen Hue Walking Street buzzing below. Whether you’re visiting for a coffee, a quiet work session, or simply to soak in the atmosphere, The Café Apartment offers a uniquely nostalgic yet lively experience. It’s a must-visit spot that captures the creative soul and evolving history of modern Saigon. We were amused for the fact that the building charges to use the elevator but once you see the various choices of cafe the elevator becomes the cherry on the cake!

As tourist, I do not recommend Apartment Café (42 Nguyen Hue). Chat GPT recommendednto me. The place is dirty, with not many options of traditional food, even though there are a lot of stores. They are not careful, I have found hair in my food. There is not somewhere I'd like to be as tourist. Check for hidden gem spots, like The Balcony cafe or Michelin guide restaurants for food.

This is a popular spot for taking photos and exploring! There are many small shops inside, each with its own unique vibe. You can find a wide variety of items here such as books, souvenirs, coffee, clothes, accessories, and many more. It’s a fun place to wander around and discover something new at every corner. You can explore it floor by floor, and each level offers a different experience. Some shops are cozy cafés with nice views, while others sell creative local products that make perfect gifts or keepsakes. The atmosphere is lively but still comfortable to walk around and enjoy. Whether you come here to shop, grab a drink, or take nice pictures, this place is definitely worth visiting. It’s a great spot to spend time with friends or even just to enjoy a peaceful solo stroll
