Cafe At The Frick - Review - Point Breeze - Pittsburgh - The Infatuation

"You always thought you’d make a good royal person. Not the whole “must be careful about what you wear, eat, and say” thing, but the part where you go to really fancy parties wearing a hat that’s four feet wide. Lunch at the Cafe at The Frick is as close to that as you can get to that feeling while still in western PA. There’s a glass rotunda and a lush patio, both with views of the surrounding gardens. The lunch menu is a mix of soups, salads, and sandwiches, though the best time to come is from 2:30-4pm on the weekends for high-tea service. If you want lunch to feel like a (very) special occasion, this is the spot." - Madeline Quigley

I like the atmosphere, but food is horrible. I had chicken shawarma sandwich and black tea for my lunch there. Imagine of chicken shawarma sandwich, i supposed to get sandwich with pieces of chicken in sharwama sauce. You can see in the picture if what I get from my order. I even repeat order with server that I get the right order. It was a grilled chicken burger with mustard and cold bun. I'm very disappointed with my food. Combine with the price of $16 of this sandwich, I wan't my money back

What a beautiful locale - relaxing and satisfying. Your favorite dining choices, well prepared and presented. Very engaging staff.

Someone from Pittsburg recommended us this place while we were visiting for a few hours and it did not disappoint. The neighborhood is quite amazing, calm, green and you might wanna look up the Frick family while you're there.

Went for a friend's birthday party and had the best brunch ever. The flatbreads and teas were phenomenal. The staff were so kind and helped us with her suprise cake, 12/10 experience!

Had a fabulous afternoon with my girlfriend for afternoon tea here. We got sooo lucky to get the last table of that Saturday without reservation. If you know you want to make a trip here, make sure you call ahead. We were seated inside because it was super hot out. The host was very nice and got us menu quickly. I never had high tea before so didn't really know what to expect. I got to say, high tea is definitely a thing and I can't wait to experience it again. We both got our own tea(great quality) and share a tower of finger sandwiches and dessert. Everything was super yummy and created with care. Scone and jam was SO BOMB! 5 star for ambience and food. Service was also great. Would highly recommend it!

Brunch al fresco!! Having just moved to Pittsburgh, my wife and I were excited to check out the Cafe at the Frick and it did not disappoint. The weather was good so we chose for outdoor seating. We did not have a reservation but had no issues getting a table as we arrived before they opened. The food was bangin! upscale service and great prices. Sitting outside was perfect with our 1 year old. I would recommend without hesitation and I will be re-visiting soon.

Got there at 10 am on a Sunday, not at all crowded, nabbed an outside table. Ordering at the counter was fine, staff was personable and helpful, servers were lovely. The patio can’t be beat for ambiance on a beautiful summer day. I ordered the afternoon tea plate, which was beautifully presented (see pic). Highlights were the scone & clotted cream—that was amazing! And I really enjoyed the ginger-licorice tea. Now for the overly detailed food critique: The cucumber sandwich was undone by very mushy bread. The other sandwich was tasty. The scone was delicious, but could have had more tart cherries. Berries were perfect and nicely presented. Cookie and brownie bite were fine, but a bit too sweet for me; I’d have preferred more fruit or another finger sandwich rather than the super-sweet stuff. Overall, I give ambiance & service 5-stars Food 4-stars, and Prices/value 3-stars.

The Afternoon Tea is one of the many food options at this cafe. I really enjoyed dining outside in the pretty grounds of The Frick Pittsburgh. It was just such a peaceful experience on a quiet Sunday afternoon. I will for sure be returning soon! No need for reservations at this time and the cafe closes at 3:00 pm I believe.

Yelp
The vibes are immaculate, so cute and beautiful gardens. But oof, this food was not good. I got the afternoon tea (which was so cheap! what a deal!) but most of it was rather bad... fruit was fine, finger sandwiches were not enjoyable (seemed soggy), and the cookie and macaron were overbaked or maybe old? The best part was definitely the scone with clotted cream and jam, although I think the clotted cream really saved the scone which in itself was not the best. So overall a good deal for the vibe but wouldn't rec for food necessarily.

Yelp
There's a cute little cafe at The Frick that's open to the public, regardless if you bought a ticket to see the museum. It's nestled on the grounds after the gift shop and near the glass house. This adorable restaurant has a big fan following, in that it's busy during lunch. We got there just before Noon and were able to secure a table outside under an umbrella. You order your food and drink at the counter and then receive a number to put on your table. Pretty quickly drinks come out and then the food. We ordered the Afternoon Tea, which came with two finger sandwiches, scone, cookies, fresh fruit, clotted cream, and jam, as well as a pot of tea, for just $19. We also added on white peach Bellini's to start. You have your choice of sandwiches from egg salad, chicken salad, cucumber, and salmon. For scones, they offered blueberry, lemon poppyseed, plain, and double chocolate. The clotted cream is made in-house, and it's absolutely delicious! It reminded of the kind served in the UK, not the whipped cream often served in the US. We enjoyed our bounty and were never rushed, though there was a line waiting to order. You could only order if there was an available table for you. So lovely!

Yelp
Great place to sit for coffee or have a sandwich meal or breakfast. Service was excellent. They must stop when visiting this area of Frick Park.

Yelp
I love visiting The Frick. It's so beautiful, and there is so much to see. The Cafe is no different. It's smack dab in the middle of the Frick grounds, surrounded by beautiful nature. The actual cafe is rather small. It often gets pretty packed and busy. My husband & I took his mom and grandma out for Mother's Day, and it was very busy. It helps to make a reservation ahead of time. We came to partake in afternoon tea, but they don't do their normal afternoon tea. Fortunately, we were still able to get tea and some of their sandwiches. They seem to run out of items a lot because they are so busy, but everything was delicious! It was also nice to walk around the grounds afterwards!

Yelp
First time visitor to the Cafe. Decided to have lunch after the Frick art exhibit. It was a pretty day to sit outdoors under a canopy. First, I stood outdoors for a few minutes with others waiting for space inside as there is limited space to stand near the register to order. While doing so, I had the opportunity to peruse the menu, a very nice menu, at that. There were delightful options of salads, flat breads, sandwiches. I opted for the crab cake salad and a diet coke. (Thank you Frick for offering soda. Umhmm... Phipps, you listening???). I ordered at the register inside, paid, then headed outdoors with my order number on a placard so the server could find me. The wait was a bit, but I had my phone and social media to keep me company. That, along with one woman at a table next to mine dominating the conversation to her group of other women for the entire time I was there. Ya couldn't tune her out if ya wanted but she was presenting an interesting, if not faulty-premised, conversation. In other words, the martyr who gets something out of being a martyr by having a captive, sympathetic audience. Sigh... Anywho... back to my lunch. Once it was delivered to me, it was superb --eye-catching and very tasty. My flaky crabcake sat in the middle of a ring of multi-colored fancy lettuce. There were two cups, one a vinaigrette dressing and the other a sauce for the crab. I downed every single bite of lettuce and crab. The food, the service, the setting, all were worthwhile. Alas, I had to leave well before the woman at the table next to me was finished with her story. I did steal a glance and we locked eyes for a split second. I'm sure I had a half-smile to go with it.

Yelp
It's a great little cafe on the grounds of The Frick Museum and Gardens. They have a nice variety on their menu that includes interesting food and specialty drinks. I enjoyed a coffee and large salted caramel cookie while my wife had a glass of wine. The staff was very nice and we had a great day at The Frick.

Yelp
Setting - A little on the small side but not too little, just quaint. Wonderful space for an intimate meal on a quiet weekend. Not too rushed and not overwhelmingly busy. This is a place to go when you want a quiet moment to reflect on your life and eat a decent meal.

Yelp
Would give this zero stars if I could, we were there over the wknd & my wife ordered the mushroom soup. It was absolutely disgusting: canned mushrooms floating in basically.water - zero flavor what'sover. It was inedible. The menu itself is very small. The Frick itself is disappointing at best. Skip it ...

Yelp
So happy the Cafe at the Frick is open. On a cool but sunny fall day I went there with a friend for tea. There is a nice patio setting with umbrella tables. There are lots of food and beverage options, but we were their for the tea. It isn't as deluxe as going to a "tea house", but very nice. Two finger sandwiches, a scone with clotted cream and jam, big cookie, piece of fruit and a small pastry. The tea selection is good too. Food is ordered inside, but delivered to you table. Such a pretty setting to enjoy a snack or meal.

Yelp
I've always enjoyed my experience here. You just can't beat the beautiful garden and the estate. Take a stroll in the garden or pop in the greenhouse after dining at the cafe. The only thing is they don't have the three tiered tea set anymore. I used to come just for the high tea experience. They're also a bit short staffed. They may not check in on you once your food arrives, but when I asked for more hot water for my tea, they were friendly and promptly poured me more water. I hope their regular tea set comes back!

Yelp
They have a new way of operating at the cafe, where you order from the menu at the counter, make sure to pick up your drinks at the drink counter, and then they will bring your food out to you at your table with a number. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Some of the seating is covered against the heat and the rain, and indoors is air-conditioned. Our table enjoy the variety from the menu, including two pepperoni flatbreads (which are basically personal pizzas that are rectangular rather than circular), one hummus/ red pepper/ spinach flatbread, and one turkey sandwich with a Caesar salad to be shared. Water can be from the tap with ice or else in a bottle.

Yelp
Another casualty of COVID-19 unfortunately. Because of staffing shortages the cafe isn't quite as good anymore. We came for high tea before the pandemic and it was really impressive, now they bring out the food on a flat plate and it doesn't look impressive...$19 for a plate of snacks (all of which were just average) and a cup of tea is pricey. I had a turkey sandwich and it was just ok, the chips were bagged and the turkey was just a cold cut with no sauce options. The service was lacking and they never brought me a napkin and it wasn't clear how to get refills on the tea. Still a great place to sit and enjoy the outdoors, but not what it used to be.

Yelp
I met my friend here. You order at the counter and then receive a number placard to place at the table. We ordered the afternoon tea. It includes two finger sandwiches (I chose smoked salmon for one and cucumber + butter for the other), a scone (I chose cherry), berries and clotted cream, and a cookie. For tea, I chose the Frick tea blend and my friend got the Rose. We sat at the tables outside - it was gorgeous and shaded where we sat, even around noon. The teapots were brought to our tables immediately and the food was brought out quickly after. I was quite hungry but the food was very filling. The teapots were smaller (about one mug's volume per pot) but it was no problem, as they came by very frequently to offer refills of hot water. We took a walk around the grounds and peeped the gift shop after. I thought the whole experience was just delightful and I'm surprised by the lowish ratings on Yelp.

Yelp
A benefit of membership at The Frick is a discount at The Cafe. I have been several times as the location is so convenient when visiting The Frick. I was hopeful after the re-opening of The Cafe, the quality would improve. My recent visit was for their WinterFest in January 2023 and The Cafe was full at peak lunch time on this popular Sunday. It's not a huge space but diners did pull 4-seat tables together for larger groups. Estimate seats 40 total. On this day, there was plenty of young staff to handle the volume. You order at one counter and either pick up at the other counter or are given a number to take to a table if dining in. They make their hot chocolate with water at a boiling hot temperature. I ordered a flat bread from the brunch menu. I'm impressed by all the other offerings at The Frick, I really want to love The Cafe but the quality of the food and beverage that I ordered was average. I am grateful a convenient place to grab a beverage and bite when visiting The Frick is again open. I have yet to try their Afternoon Tea offering. May be that is where they excel and may be I will try that sometime.

Yelp
It was a dreary rainy Pittsburgh day just after Christmas and we reserved a Noon lunch at the quaint warm Frick Cafe. What a lovely way to start our Frick Museum day! The Frick Cafe house Cabernet and Chardonnay were very nice complements to the cheese board featuring smoked Bleu cheese. I could have eaten a huge block of that cheese - one of the best I've had. We enjoyed two brunch items - a green tomatillo bowl with poached egg and roasts and a pan fried branzino with avocado and zucchini fritter cake that was absolutely divine with a cucumber salsa. Dessert was a lemon tart with fresh whipped cream and blueberries and a candied lemon slice. Also divine! What a terrific little gem. Make reservations for weekends or take a chance for a small party after the lunch rush.

Yelp
The food was good. The service was terrible! The servers were rude. When asked if we could have water, she responded, "Maybe". No she wasn't joking. When she finally brought the water after asking again, she was scowling. All this despite a 20% prepaid tip. When we accidentally took the menus to the outdoor seating area but immediately returned them inside, another server said we were trying to steal them. This is all a reflection of how the place is managed, and the way these servers are trained. Won't go back. The good news is that there are excellent restaurants within a couple of miles of this place.

Yelp
Nice spot to sit and have a cocktail, wine, or coffee. Don't necessarily recommend the food unless it's something like the charcuterie board which is still overpriced. I also ordered a lobster roll that I could hardly get down. Not sure what happened bc the food here used to be a lot better than my recent experience. The Frick estate is still a beautiful place to sit and relax.

Yelp
Food was ok, nothing great. A bit limited on portion size too. Drinks were mediocre at best. Atmosphere was very nice. Would not go out of my way to eat here.

Yelp
an enchanting little spot, hidden away on the Frick property. came in during winter fest for a couple almond croissants and lattes. it is a cozy and warm atmosphere. I was greeted by a most lovely couple of folks behind the counter. I asked about the croissants. a wonder-full and charming lady gave me a glowing endorsement of their quality. I was tickled by her enthusiasm, energy, and unique expression of consciousness. it left an imprint on my day. my French entourage confirmed upon eating that said croissants, were, indeed, delicious. may we all be happy and free

Yelp
I am happy that they serve La Prima Espresso coffee from the Strip District here at the cafe. It was pretty good and well needed on a sleepy and lazy Saturday afternoon. They have done a nice job of renovating the small cafe that is packed with people on a weekend. There was a lady who had brought her dog into the cafe, which was sweet, so I guess they allow pets? Anyways, I haven't tried the food yet, but maybe someday soon. They are open from morning till 3 p.m. in the afternoon, which is pretty early for a time to close, not sure why.

Yelp
The Frick is so lovely. I'm happy I finally was able to enjoy afternoon tea here. The environment was beautiful and I was able to get seated by a window which made my experience a lot better however, the actual tea service could've have been better significantly. Service: 6/10. I was expecting more. Maybe I'm being picky but, I felt like with such a beautiful space, the cafe has so much more potential. I was honestly a little disappointed with the presentation and customer service. The tea pots were very small and I was not able to pour even two full cups of tea. I also felt like the plates and serving ware could have been cuter. They were very plain and simple. No one offered to replenish my hot water for the tea or even my water. The server also was not as friendly as I have hoped. He seemed annoyed by my presence. Food: 7/10. The presentation of the three tiers of treats could have been better too. The service and food was very simple. There was nothing extraordinary that stood out from all the food served. The best part in my opinion was the egg salad sandwich. The egg salad tasted like it has a hint of truffle inside which really excited me. The scones and baked good themselves I felt tasted a little to hard-- maybe like they were a few days old. Everything was edible and tasted decent with the tea. Another notable mention was the clotted cream that was served with the scones; it tasted like a mixture between cool whip and cream cheese. Environment: 8/10. The scenery outside the window is great. I would come back here to give this place another chance. I hope to come back sometime in the spring to take advantage of the outdoor seating. Overall, I expect elegance and refinement when I enjoy a tea service. I did not receive the quality of service and food I typically get at other afternoon tea places. However, the scenery is cute and I would give the Cafe at the Frick another chance.

Yelp
Ok here I go My dear friend and I decided to enjoy a day at the Frick live large Mansion tour was lovely...I mean the place is stunning. The docent was very knowledgeable but this review is about the cafe and it's tea service We had a reservation not sure I would attempt tea with out one You can get just tea Or scones Or our choice the tea service with food They also have a more expensive version with bubbly Lovely tea choices including one that the menu says it's Helen's blend I opted for chai We each had our own tea pot my tea was steaming hot and nice Three level tray it's all so sweet One level little tea Sammies the bread ones cucumber and beet were too dry The egg on a little roll was good The middle level was slices of scone with jam and cream. So good really Top layer little desserts brownies a tart with raspberry and white chocolate top very good! Plus some sort of little cookie it was just ok It was all going relatively well till a rather large rat ran from behind the fence then along the edge of the building he just hung out no fear. Then went back under fence back of restaurant He reappeared (if it was the same one) a little while later. So I could not finish my food neither could my friend. I just wanted to leave Um rats and restaurants are not my thing Thanks to cell phones and rat just sitting there I took his picture. Waitress remarked he was a cute mouse let my picture decide Anyway waitress very blasé gave us a number told us text it to the manager She didn't seem to care Ok it's not bubonic plague season as far as I know but still she could have been more apologetic After sending pic no response now it's 3 days later 25 a person for Tea mmmm don't think I will be returning Ps first time I was with my daughter Frick cafe said no not with out a reservation.

Yelp
Absolutely adorable!! If you're looking for a cozy place that makes you feel like you're in a scene from an old book or film, this is your place. I, for one, love that atmosphere, and felt so "quaint" in this setting. The menu includes teas and coffee of all sorts, as well as finger sandwiches, and little pastries. My friend and I went to their Sunday Tea (my first time), and had a lovely afternoon! It was such a sweet experience, and everything was tasty! I recommend walking to the greenhouse afterwards, and visiting the little shop next door. It's not a very big cafe, so definitely make a reservation!

Yelp
My review is based off of 2 visits to the cafe. The first time was a few years ago and I had lunch with my husband. The food was decent it was just pricey. My second visit was much more recent- this past Saturday. I went for afternoon tea with two friends. It was really nice and enjoyable but once again just expensive. It was $33 a person for tea, a glass of champagne and mini sandwiches/ dessert. I would do it again to feel fancy but honestly it may be another few years until I make a stop back. I really would like to give 3.5 stars because the food isn't awesome nor are the prices but the experience and ambiance is nice.

Yelp
After a full morning touring the Frick museums and Clayton House my sis and I were starving, ravenous zombies, not unlike those present in the Walking Dead. The staff at the museum warned that reservations aren't accepted unless you're a member and the restaurant is miniature so it's basically a coin toss to get in here. Luckily, our toss won, because we were able to find a nice window table after the lunch rush. The menu is small but well-thought out, and many of the vegetables are grown in the nearby greenhouse, right on the property. I was super pleased to see a vegan option for the daily soup, kale and cashew. It was a bright green, vivid bowl of nature's best, creamy and delicate but power-packed with flavor and antioxidants. My sis had the coquilles St. Jacques, and I ordered the wild mushroom sandwich. The coquilles were a smaller portion, served in two seashells, very sea-side chic. My sandwich was a standout, thick, perfectly braised mushrooms atop crunchy, chewy peasant bread. I had to share the goodness with my sis, who proclaimed it her favorite of the afternoon. We both had little pots of the house blend tea, a warming weapon against the cold, rainy afternoon. They also offer a proper afternoon tea, British-style, which appeared to be quite festive, and authentic. What a lovely discovery for us both, we will certainly return.

Yelp
Surrounded by trees and bushes and with large windows allowing plenty of natural sunlight to flow through, Cafe at the Frick is the ideal spot for afternoon tea time. We arrived right at 2:30pm for tea time and asked to be seated outdoors, but the hostess informed us that there was construction going on and that it'd be better to be indoors to avoid getting a layer of dust over our food. We ordered the Afternoon Tea and really enjoyed most of the items on the plates, from the savory mini sandwiches on the bottom (crab, chicken, cucumber, egg) to the delicious scones in the middle to the cute dessert pastries (tarts etc.) at the top. Unfortunately, I was so excited to dig in and take photos that I barely paid attention when our server was explaining what everything was. I LOVED the scones. I've never had such amazing scones before! The mini sandwiches were also delectable. I thought some of the dessert pastries were just okay, but the rest of the food exceeded my expectations. Food, tea, service, and all the natural surroundings make Cafe at the Frick a very solid 4. Taste | 4 Atmosphere | 4 Presentation | 4 Service | 4 OVERALL | 4

Yelp
Came here for a bite to eat before touring around the grounds. The menu is small and the choices are slim. You need a reservation to sit inside so we were seated outside. It had rained earlier and all the chairs were wet still. Instead of cleaning it she sat us at semi dry seats. After glancing at the menu we decided to just eat a snack since nothing really screamed out to us. We ordered the jumbo lump crab bisque and key lime cheesecake with a cup of peppermint tea. The bisque was a joke. There wasn't a single lump of crab inside and it was watery. The flavors weren't really there and the best part was the bread crisps The cheese cake was a small slice with a dent in the top like someone tried to slice it then decided to stop half way. The taste was OK but dry. Very overpriced at $7 The service was nonexistent. As soon as the waiter found out we weren't having a full meal he stopped showing up.

Yelp
Aside from the obvious beauty of this entire house and its grounds, the Cafe at the Frick is a quaint and intimate setting for lunch or tea. I've had the pleasure of dining here several times and my most recent visit was especially perfect. I was delighted by the presentation of a cheese board we ordered with wine, but my main entree knocked it out of the park. I ordered the vegetarian quinoa stuffed peppers and I have tried in vain to make the same dish at home with no success because it was so delicious. Perfectly balanced flavors, and very filling without the over-indulged sickness one gets from eating too much or too heavily. I hope to have this dish again in the future although they do change their menu seasonally. Overall, I have never had a bad dish or experience here! Be sure to make a reservation here and enjoy a nice stroll around the Frick mansion after lunch.

Yelp
The two main things I look for in an afternoon tea are the quality of the scones and the quality of the tea. The Cafe at the Frick scores full points on both. Apparently the server heard our British accents and got nervous the tea wouldn't be up to our standards - but she really needn't have worried!
google avatar

Meredith A.

Yelp
We made reservations for high tea after our tour of the Clayton House. We did the royal tea service and I had the champagne cocktail with pomegranate. The food was delicious and ended up taking home my dessert as I was full which I did not expect. I also had the blueberry lavender tea which was divine. Definitely come here and enjoy one day!

Yelp
It took a while to finally get a reservation here but we managed to do it! This place is super cute and quiet and a great place to tea over tea with friends. Very quaint and a great place to go when enjoying a day at the frick. There are a couple things that I didn't love so much though. The fact that it's almost impossible to get a reservation here sucks. If you are a member, you can get one any time but for non-members, you can only get a same-day reservation IF there is room available. After days of calling for reservations and getting no luck, I decided to show up in person. I got there at 11 when they open and they said there only opening was for 2:30. I took it. It wasn't the most ideal to come back hours later but after driving all the way there, I wasn't going to turn it down. The cafe is very small. There are only about 10 tables there so that explains one of the reasons it's so hard to get in there. We went during their tea time. I'm not a huge tea person but it definitely felt food to drink it on such a cold day. They do have options for food as well but they can be pricey. I wasn't too hungry so I asked for a small plate of sandwiches just like they do with the scones plate. It's $8 for 3 sandwiches. It was really cool to experience the cafe but I probably will not be back.

Yelp
I arrived at the Frick Museum early to see "Killer Heels" (this will be reviewed separately) and wanted to have lunch at the cafe. I went over there at 11:00 when they opened and inquired about a reservation. I called upon arrival and left a message. They recognized my message and said I could dine on the patio at my appointed time. I later learned they were have a bus group in at noon for the main dining room. I was grateful they were able to accommodate me. Since it was a nice day I opted for that. I arrived on time and was seated promptly. I was attended to immediately by a very nice waiter who went over the specials of the day. I opted for the salmon over asparagus, with broccoli and pea shoots from their greenhouse. I got my meal within a reasonable time frame. I was told the pea shoots were indeed edible and my meal was very good. Please note they do offer a price fixe menu which includes a cup of soup or salad, entree and dessert for $28.00. The other options you can get is soup or salad, whole sandwich and dessert for $24.00 or the same thing with half sandwich for $20.00. I decided just to go with this special and order a dessert. I learned the lady at the next table ordered the blackberry creme brûlée for dessert but when I saw it I was overwhelmed at how big it was. When my waiter offered me choices I asked for something smaller. He then told me that all their desserts except the creme brûlée come from Signature desserts in Squirrel Hill and they have another shop in Castle Shannon. I opted for the apple fringed tart dessert. He explained to me that they have their desserts sent in fresh daily and they just cut slices out of whatever selection they are given for that day. The creme brûlée he told me he could wrap up what I couldn't finish but since I wasn't done with the museum I knew it would go bad. Please note all desserts are $8.00. I got my tart and it wasn't too heavy but it was just ordinary. Nothing to write home about. I think next time I visit I'll go with either a soup or salad option instead with my main course and skip the dessert. The cafe sits in what was formerly a carriage house not for the Frick family but for another family who lived in that area. The surroundings are beautiful and it is a great place to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings. Same day reservations are available to non members. Advance reservations are available for members only. They also have afternoon tea but I'll look into that when the weather cools.

Yelp
Today I brought a friend and her grandson. We were treated very well by all staffs and our server. She was very helpful, nice and friendly. The meal (salmon salad with rúcula and the fish of the day with peppers) was very tasty, healthy and with a beautiful presentation. If you like desserts I do recommend their creme brûlée, it's soo delicious.

Yelp
Had a lovely dinner on the patio on a Friday night in late August. Since it was a summer Friday night, there was some live music playing as well. For starters, I had watermelon gazpacho. It was refreshing on a hot summer day. For the main course, I had a beet pesto angel hair pasta. It was a beautiful pink color and cooked well. For dessert, I had creme brûlée. The creme brûlée was a little thicker than I would have liked. Overall, a wonderful hidden gem in Pittsburgh.

Yelp
We enjoyed a lovely lunch outdoors in the cafe. It was a beautiful setting to enjoy a lunch with my coworker. The menu offered unique seasonal items that would certainly appeal to anyone. They also offer vegan and gluten free items clearly marked on their daily menus. Our server was friendly and attentive. On this visit, there was a wide variety of autumn options. I ordered the mushroom soup that was made with a cocoa and coffee blend which made this a very tasty and unique soup that I would def order again. My companion ordered the squash soup which was also very flavorful. For our entrees I ordered the acorn squach stuffed with quinoa, goat cheese and mushrooms. It was excellent and very filling. My companion order the Chicken Dyan with brandy sauce which was wonderful! We also were visited by a neighborhood cat named Luke. We were told he loves to visit the guests on the patio. Some may be bothered by this, but he was friendly and clearly use to mingling with the guests. He was a beautiful cat. The outdoor park like setting is a real bonus here during the warmer months. It makes for a relaxing experience. They also offer seasonal teas to accompany your meal if desired. I understand they offer a great brunch and afternoon tea on certain days which I plan on putting on my "to do" list. I suggest you put a visit here on yours too!

Yelp
I've been looking for a good place for tea service for months and I'm glad I found this gem! For only $18, you get a full tea service enough for a light meal for 2 people. On top of your choice of freshly brewed tea, you get sandwiches, scones and other pastries, all on an adorable tea/pastry stand. The restaurant itself is very cozy, and they have outdoor seating as well. Too bad my friend and I didn't get to sit outside because there was construction going on nearby, but we still had a great experience! I heard the regular food they serve here is worth trying as well, so I'm definitely going to head back in the near future! PS: the scones are TO DIE FOR.

Yelp
Stopped in here yesterday for Afternoon Tea during a leisurely stroll through the Frick At & Historical Center. Afternoon Tea starts at 2:30 and goes through 5. It wasn't terribly busy since I made a reservation at 2:10 for 2:30 and it wasn't a problem. We sat inside which was really nice. They had our choice of about 10 teas. I had the yummy apricot (black) tea. The three-tiered petit fours selection was delish. The top tier has the mini-sandwiches like egg salad, curry chicken, herb marscapone, cinnamon cream on raspberry poundcake. The middle tier featured plain and blueberry scones with clotted cream (the best part!) and strawberry jam. And the desserts were divine - amaretto cream, coconut macaroons, plum slices to dip in chocolate and mini-chocolate bundt cake with suprise berry filling. It is such a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy tea and treats.

Yelp
We were looking for an out of town treat, thinking what better way to celebrate a visit to the Frick? Overall it was a disappointing experience. The tea selection was excellent, and we each enjoyed our selections of Russian Country, Chocolate Mint and Japanese Sensha . One pot fills one teacup full, so it was an effort to constantly flag down our server for more hot water - especially when she only refilled the pot for a three quarter cup serving at a time. The egg salad sandwich was tasty, with a hint of saffron to make it really distinguished. The cucumber sandwich was par for the course. Both the salmon and chicken salad were overwhelmed by too much bread. I prefer my scones light and flaky. The three flavors - berry, lemon poppy and traditional- were cut in wedges and had more of a cake texture. There was only one tablespoon each of jam and cream for three people. Not to worry, the scones were flavorful but way too sweet. That said, the dessert selection was particularly disappointing. The chocolate hazelnut raspberry tart was tasty but way too sweet, as well as the double chocolate fudge brownie. Sugar stole the enjoyment. Then there were two types of cookies - a lemon sugar that tasted like vegetable shortening, and a chocolate chip that I didn't even bother to try. Cookies?? Really??? And not even a traditional shortbread if you take that route? I feel they took obvious shortcuts on quality, and did not live up to a "support local" menu with the Tea service. Resting on the reputation of the Frick, they definitely do not set the standard for a modern Tea service. Fortunately the tea was good quality.

Yelp
The good: -The food is high quality. I ate chicken salad and a cup of the daily soup (a squash bisque), and both were excellent. I also had a special house blend of tea, which was also great--which you would expect from a place like this -Service was on point -The decor was in keeping with the Victorian theme...I think. I wouldn't really know because... The bad: -Dude, you HAVE to get a reservation if you want to sit in the main dining room. I waltzed up on a weekend afternoon around 1 or 2 and couldn't get seated inside. I was relegated to the patio with other diners who didn't know better either, and by the time I was done eating, I heard the host turning people away altogether unless they were willing to wait for a 4pm afternoon tea seating. The ugly: -Actually, I wouldn't call any part of my experience here truly ugly. However, since the parking lot is also for the museum and Clayton House, it can be tough to find any and that may be very frustrating if all you wanted to do was eat at the cafe, and especially if you have people with mobility issues because it's in-set from the parking lot and street a fair ways. So, be sure to arrive a fair bit earlier than your reservation or be prepared to walk if you can only get street parking.

Yelp
WOW, is this place a surprise. I was in heaven here! Outdoor dining in Frick Park amongst blooming flowers, lovely people, and with divine food? I'm alright with that! I came here for an afternoon snack upon finishing a walk-through of the new PAN exhibit on show (which is amazing in and of itself) at the Frick Art Center. I wasn't expecting anything but mediocre overpriced food at the cafe, so my "snack" turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. I split an asparagus panini with mushrooms, gruyere, and mustard with my boyfriend. The sandwich turned out to be more than enough, since it came with a side of fresh orzo salad (can't remember what was in it aside from feta, but this was delicious as well). The vegetables were incredibly fresh, which makes sense since I later discovered that all vegetables are actually GROWN ON SITE at the Frick! Brilliant. Only bone to pick with my meal was the fact that I was unaware of the plate fee for splitting a sandwich ($3). I really didn't mind considering how tasty the panini was. If you're already at the Frick for an exhibit or to check out the Historical Center, definitely do yourself a favor and try their cafe! The food isn't too expensive, the service is professional, and most importantly, it's delicious!

Yelp
Pretty good overall! I'll do a breakdown: Cons: -Reservations: non-members cannot make advanced reservations. I had to call several times the morning of and you have to leave a message first. I did get a call back but the lady transferred me back to the answering machine! Eventually, I got the reservation for 2:15pm but it took a lot of effort -TINY space inside. It seemed quite obvious that you definitely need to make reservations because the inside of the cafe is minuscule. Like, 20 people max can fit elbow to elbow. -High tea hours are only 2pm-4pm on Saturdays. This seems pretty popular so should be offered on Sundays as well for perhaps 12pm - 3pm to make it less of an awkward eating time. Pros: -Food quality: pretty good! Our sandwiches included 2 on rye bread and 2 on mini croissant burger bread. The scones were really tasty, served warm, light and crumbly! I don't even normally like scones because they are usually dry, but these are delicious! For 4 people though, they only included 6 and it wasn't quite enough to go around. The light cream as an accompaniment was good enough to eat by itself too ;). Loved the mini cheesecake bites for dessert. Mmmmm! -Tea selection: good range of fruity, floral and smoky varieties. No bagged teas here! They served their own Frick loose leaf tea selection! -Location: we had an amazing time touring the museum, greenhouse, carriage museum and gift shop! There was even a free parking lot! Score! Such scenic grounds and they are free! -Luke the cat: made my day! An extremely social neighborhood Maine Coon loves to stroll the grounds here and make friends with the guests. He jumped up on my friend's lap while I was taking pictures and let me pet him! This is a main attraction, you guys! He had the biggest, fluffiest paws and such poofy fur! -Price: it was $19/person which includes a cup of tea, 4 mini sandwiches, 4 different mini desserts and 1.5 scones. It was reasonable for high tea and kept me going until a late dinner.

Yelp
This was our first experience at The Cafe and I won't be clamoring to go back. We started with sangria - a mix of red and white with delicious fruits. It was great. The food was well-meaning and decent. There were nice blends on ingredients and it tries to be very refined and sophisticated - befitting its location. I had the afternoon tea and my friend had the soup and sandwich, which was much better than my tea. She had the peach chicken sandwich and mushroom soup - both good. My taste of her meal had me give two stars instead of one. What was wrong with my tea? There were only very basic teas to choose from, several black, one fruit, a couple decaf and a token green tea. Nothing inventive or really different. I was surprised given the complexity and flavor of the other dishes. My finger sandwiches were stale and the deserts were all dry and non-edible. Thank goodness for the delicious caramel sauce and scones or it would have been a total disappointment. What was really awful was the service. We sat there for 15 minutes before our waitress showed up to take our order. Then we waited another 40 minutes for our food. At one point I was actually contemplating taking the bread basket the table next to us left untouched. We were famished. I think next time I'll eat before I go to The Frick.

Yelp
The Café at the Frick is my most favorite place in Pittsburgh. I always look forward to going there. The food is terrific, and so is the service. You can make same day reservations if you are not a member. The place is relatively small inside, so if the weather permits, I recommend sitting outside. Such a nice atmosphere. It feels like sitting in a beautiful little park. The visitor center is a recent addition to the museum, and it is nice to go there after lunch to browse in their gift shop. The last time I had a meal at the café I had grilled cheese with caramelized onion. It was too heavenly.

Yelp
Went here for afternoon tea. $18 for tea service including tea sandwiches (chicken salad, egg salad), scones (peanut butter, cinnamon), and petit fours. For $7 extra you can add on a glass of champagne or wine, for royal tea. Slightly pricey, but it's expected for a museum café, and the tea service is worth it for the experience. Make sure you make reservations on the weekends, because it's a small space. Their outdoor seating has a relaxing atmosphere, perfect for summer Sunday afternoons. Even you aren't in the area for the museum or the park, it's still worth going out of your way for the brunch prix fixe or the afternoon tea experience.

Yelp
"Intimate, inventive, seasonal, reliable, not stuffy"--that's Cafe at the Frick for lunch--hands down, our favorite lunch in Pittsburgh. The green setting is a small house on the campus of the Frick Art and Historical Center in East Pittsburgh. In good weather, a small patio offers additional seating. An adjacent Visitors' Center is under construction, so a shaded side patio is--at least for now--off limits. The typical Sunday brunch menu features two savory soups, three salads, several sandwiches, several entrees, and five or six yummy desserts. Manager Patrick complements the menu with thoughtful wine, beer, and cocktails selections. Today we enjoyed three courses: wine, fish, and dessert. The special was crisped hogfish over Swiss chard and maitake mushrooms, topped with brassica greens, all over a drizzle of Hand of Buddha, honey, and pink peppercorns. (Many veggies are grown right on campus.) Desserts included a cherry-cranberry-walnut cake with caramel ice cream and a yellow almond-based cake with not-too-sweet chocolate icing. Interesting flavor combinations, a constantly-changing menu, sensible portions, attentive service, and personal attention from the host keep us coming back. Members get 10% off and can reserve in advance of the day. Parking is free.

Yelp
I had afternoon tea here. The regular afternoon tea is $25 with the three tier plate and $33 with a glass of bubbly or wine. The setting is nice. It is a quaint little cafe with glass windows and views of trees and the Clayton house. There is a decent variety of teas including a Frick blend, some lavender tea, English breakfast, and chocolate mint among others. The downside is the quality of the tea food. The savories included a chipotle chicken, a beet, and and a cucumber finger sandwiches, one each. The cucumber sandwich hardly had any cream cheese or cucumber and the white bread was a bit stale. The beet sandwich was meh. There was also a tiny smoked salmon cone that was pretty good. The sandwiches seemed measly. The scones were ok, the jam and butter were good, but the scones were not warm. For the dessert tier, there was some type of tartlett and the tart part was no longer hard. It was foldy and soft as if its been left out a while. There were a couple of cookies, another gelatinous dessert square, but all in all nothing exciting or particularly beautiful. They served tea in coffee cups, with plain white china. They served tea in the world's smallest coffee pot that they constantly kept refilled with hot water. For the price, they should make a little more effort with the food. I still had an enjoyable time but I would not go back. It's kind of assembly line instead of quality.
