"Kyle Kelly, the owner of popular local brand Cajun Connoisseur, has returned to food truck-style business after closing a physical restaurant in Kenwood. He continues to draw fans for his seafood gumbo, selection of po’ boys, and Cajun spins on mac and cheese and baked potatoes. Diners can track the truck’s locations via Instagram." - Ashok Selvam

I tried The Cajun Connoisseur at the Chi Food Truck Fest and ordered the 8oz lobster mac and cheese. The price was reasonable and the food came out quickly, which I appreciated. There wasn’t much lobster and the flavour was a little on the bland side—I found myself wishing it was cheesier. That said, the customer service was absolutely 10/10. The staff were incredibly kind and efficient, and that alone made the experience a positive one. I’m giving 4 stars because of the outstanding service.

Their food is so good on the food truck. I had the jambalaya, crab balls and the fried lobster and crab Po'boy. The people on the food truck are very friendly. Everyone needs to find out where the food truck is and try them.

Amazing flavor! Amazing service! Amazing everything! 10/10 would recommend and will definitely be back! The flavor of the whitefish in my po boy was awesome, all the seasoning was on point and the veggies tasted fresh!

Ordered takeout with coworkers and wasn’t thrilled with the taste of the chicken baked potato. Cajun Connoisseur offers a garlic and herb or Cajun option for the seasoning choice when ordering the potatoes. I selected the Cajun seasoning. All I could taste was rosemary and the seasoning overpowered everything. It didn’t add to the potato but made it inedible as it was too much. Had I known I would’ve requested no seasoning be added. My coworker and I both had the same reactions. My other coworker ordered lobster macaroni and it was like finding a needle in a haystack for her, the lobster was M.I.A. I recommend requesting a sample before wasting money if the restaurant allows.

I had the pleasure of meeting the owners of the Cajun Connoisseur. They are not only an amazing couple, their food is everything. On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, I ordered shrimp and grits from their food truck. I didn't eat it right away. I warmed it up when I got home expecting the grits to be dry and lumpy. To my surprise the grits were super creamy and delicious. The portion was so large, I was not able to finish it. I warmed it again on Thursday and Friday. I just finished it today. Three days later the shrimp and grits were as delicious as they were on day one. Do yourself a FLAVOR and visit the Cajun Connoisseur.

Although the customer service is excellent, perhaps I just happened to arrive on a bad day. My food lacked flavor. I ordered jambalaya, but the sausage and shrimp were charred and appeared to have been reheated. Personally, the rice did not complement the weird flavor of the chicken. In contrast, I would look into other options from this business but I would not order this again.

The food is good. However it is not prepared fresh and they just reheat it. The first time I had the jambalaya, the rice and chicken tasted like yesterday and looked like my food when I reheat leftovers in the microwave. Decided to give them a second chance. My shrimp and grits had lumps in it. Sadly won’t be returning.

Yelp
This truck is down by the downtown Northwestern Medical Hospital in Tuesdays and Thursdays, which is where I found them today. Their food is really excellent. The chicken poboy was awesome, juicy and quite large. And their grits are to die for! Service was super friendly and they gave us little tastes before we ordered. Nice! And because their food is ready to go and just needs assembly, it was fast too. You know you're going to pay a bit more at a food truck, but I was actually surprised at how affordable it was (poboy was $11). And portions were generous. Very nice! Check their website for their locations and hit them up. You won't regret it!

Yelp
Hands down the best shrimp and grits EVER!! They are so creamy and rich. You will truly go into a food coma especially if you eat the entire bowl.
